Toshiro shrugged lightly. "Not sure, but I don't believe we'll have too much trouble. We have each other, right?" he replied, giving her an encouraging smile. And really, just how many couples are prepared for childhood? I doubt we are the only first time parents out there who aren't in a herd...

Kindle smiled gently, nodding, thankful for the gentle encouragement. "You're right." Turning, she moved around him, then nuzzled a particularly soft spot low on his throat. Still, she was nervous. Does it hurt? Will we be able to tend the clutch out here on the beaches? Then again, everything should be fine. Toshiro seemed to know what he was doing. And he wouldn't leave her alone. Even if she wasn't expecting, that just wasn't the Toshiro she'd come to know. "Food?"

"Hmm, yes, let's go then," he said with a smile, leading Kindle out of their little shelter. They walked along the beach together for a little while before locating some coconuts on the ground. "Ah, here there are," he remarked, trotting over to one and kicking it around a bit with his hoof. "Hmm, still haven't figured out the most efficient way to open these things yet. Let's see..." he pushed the giant fruit over to a small group of boulders, wedging it between two of them. "That should work." Turning back to Kindle, he said, "Bring over as many as you would like. I'm going to get to work on opening this one."

Keeping beside him, Kindle smiled softly to herself as they plodded across the sand. She cast a glance to their side, looking at shells glittering beneath the waves as they moved, hardly noticing when they came upon the trees. Or the furry round fruit they had borne.
She watched him curiously as he moved the first into position, her ears pricked. "Let me go grab another." Turning, she found herself unconsciously drawn back to the water, to the foam and the spray. Smiling, she watched a crab skitter from the cover of a tuft of sea weed. Stepping after it, she moved down the beach. "Where are you going little one?" Her thoughts were interrupted by a loud sound. A trumpeting call? Across the water? Her head snapped up as she looked around for signs of threat. Finding none, she turned, scolding herself quietly. She could only just see Toshiro. Trotting back over the sand, she caught a coconut with her hoof, pushing it forward carefully.
Pausing just off to the side of him, she tilted her head to examine his progress, a hoof set lightly atop her coconut. "How is it coming?"

"Almost... got it!" Toshiro exclaimed in triumph as he finally managed to crack the fruit open without completely crushing it in the process. He smiled over at Kindle and stepped out of the way for her. "Better eat it quick before all of the juice is lost. I'll get started on opening the one you have with you there." He stepped over to her side and pulled the coconut away with his hoof, giving her a quick nuzzle at the same time. The male rather enjoyed taking care of her really. It was part of his nature.

"Thank you, Toshiro." Smiling, she nuzzled him as he approached, then stepped passed, lifting a piece of shattered shell. She laid it before her like a bowl, lapping up the milk. Such a strange fruit, but they were quite good. Once she'd licked it clean, she held it still between her hooves awkwardly, chewing at the white meat.

Strange fruit indeed, but also quite good. After shelling the other layer of plant matter, it didn't take too long to break open the actual seed. He too lapped up the sweet juice before feasting on the white matter inside. After they both finished eating, Toshiro turned to his mate and asked, "Would you like another one? Or are you in the mood for something else?"

"Hmmm," Kindle stretched drowsily, considering. "Perhaps we could walk? Or would you rather head back to the den?" Head tilted, she frowned. "I was thinking... how many will we have...?"

"It's hard to say," Toshiro replied, stepping back over to her side and nuzzling her affectionately. "One, two, three maybe? We'll just have to wait and see when the eggs come." He smiled at her, holding her tail with his. "You still seem a bit tired. Did you want to lay down some more?"

She smiled her thanks. "Yes, let's rest." Leaning into him, she bit back a soft yawn. If there was one thing lately that she could forever stand behind, it was sleep. How many would it be? Two? Three? It felt like so much more than one. She set off toward their small den.

Once they arrived back at their small shelter, Toshiro took a moment to shuffle around the leaves and such in Kindle's lying spot to make sure it was as comfy as possible. After he was fairly satisfied with his work, he stepped back over to Kindle's side, first nuzzling her then her tummy. "You are going to be a terrific mother, Kindle," he said, a happy twinkle in his eye as he smiled at her. "You don't have to worry about anything."

Kindle smiled sheepishly, blue eyes trained on him. "Easy for you to say," she teased. "I suppose we'll see when we get there." Stepping inside, she laid down on the leaves and grasses, a soft sound of content leaving her. "But I do know one thing. You'll be an incredible father." And an excellent leader, should he one day choose to form a herd.

Toshiro chuckled softly, settling down beside her and laying his tail over her to keep her warm. "If I am it'll only be through your influence. Rest well, Kindle." Soon they would be a family, and perhaps someday it would evolve into a herd of their own. But whatever happened, life was certain to be good.
