one_mpg Or if you want to be something different from all the other clans, we could be like the Native Americans. TRIBES *cut for space sake* While I enjoy the thought of being an online tribe of sorts, I'm sort of wary about it. I'm not sure if it goes along with the fantastical theme the clan has embraced. I suppose I feel knights are more appropriate here. Also, "squaw" means "whore" or "slave." Which is entirely inappropriate. It does not mean "wife" or...well, whatever you thought it meant when you applied it to the event organizer group.

Not at all. While the "squaws" did do a lot of work in the tribe, they were the ones who planned the parties and ceremonies for the tribe. They were also fierce in combat, as is a modern mother protecting her home and children. As I said, I did not mean to offend anyone and I apologize if I did. I also understand why you think knights would be more appropriate, but I suggested tribes because every other clan is using terms like knights or others that relate to warriors of that era. But it was only a suggestion to be pondered and discussed, then discarded if desired. Again, I apologize if I offended anyone.

If the word "squaw" is offensive, why not replace it with something like "hostess?" I like the idea that someone had where we have mythical terms, like "ancients," with Zeus, Thor and Aphrodite. Those beings were fantastical and had powers much like the rings give us. We could all be gods and goddesses while in game. Haha!

Problem with that Idea is that some might get HIGH AND MIGHTY at the prospect of viewing themselves in zOMG as a God-like person.. Heh.. Yeah.. @One_mpg: I agree that many clans are likely using the warrior-based theme to organize their ranks, though I am not sure how well exactly the Native aspect does tie into the theme for our clan.. @EVERYONE: Definately do I agree we should have some sort of ranking system, simply for where everyone plays a part in the Clan functioning, to allow newer members and even our current/older members to know who to turn to with certain questions/concerns/requests of assistance. HOWEVER, I think we need to try and find some titles that lie between the Tribe and Army aspect.. Think Mythology, think Fantasy, think Mysterious, think Guardian.. No one ever said these rankings had to be stuck to one particular grouping style. We can mix and match titles to come up with our own unique system. Throw them out there people, dont be shy! Nothing will be rejected, as we are simply brainstorming here! Never know, in a set of 5 ideas, one or two or more could be taken into consideration! **I do think however that Ancient's should be locked in as one of the Rank Titles by now, with how much support it's gotten ** heart

I was just thinking about a book series I enjoy, Dragonriders of Pern (By Anne McCaffrey), and thought to myself.. Why put ranks to just the workers in the clan, who do stuff on the forum and in zOMG?
Think about it for a moment..
We have:
zOMG Strongarms, who knock down the health of Bosses for players who need credit for defeating them.
zOMG Supports, who buff those who are battling.
zOMG Bodyguards, who protect lower level players while making their way around the areas.
BUT!!
We also have in the Clan:
Forum Mods, who keep an eye on things
Event Planners/Runners, who organize and set up the various Clan Events (Like the Million Rice Ball March, which is going on at the time of my posting this)
Writers, who write poetry, stories, even set up RPG's.
Artists, who design things for the Clan, and do various artwork
Among many others, who I cannot name because this post would be WAAAAAY too long after that..
Point being.. In the Book Series I mentioned, there are classifications that I like, such as Crafters, Harpers, Riders, Drudges, that sort..
I specifically like the idea of using the title "Harpers" when I think of the Artists and Writers in the Clan, and "Crafters" when I think of the Event Planners/Runners in the Clan.
For the zOMG Supports (Buffers/Healers), I think we should just leave their classification as being "Healers", and the zOMG Bodyguards I think "Defenders" works great.
Also, the following terms for some of the levels of classification, based on seniority in the Clan, and/or level of commitment to their Rank:
Elder, Master, (I ran out of names at this point in time.. Sorry.. The steam that powered my thinking ran out.. Anyone got ideas to fill in gaps??)

Wow this thread is hopping, I just hope everyone can FIND it here!
Anyway, I think I will restart the poll for a name. I'll add Tribes and leave the other top options and let everyone vote again. Until we finalize a name we will call them "teams" because that name is kinda lame and I veto it for permanent use. It's appropriate, but not COOL and I want COOL!
Although I do like the classification "tribes" I think we could use that and not go totally native American for the team names. Tribes has a nice mysterious, cultural feel to it. When I said "mythical" names I did not mean we had to be greek gods! XD There are other types of myths. I'm a HUGE fan of various cultural folklore like Norse mythology, Irish mythology and Eastern mythology, etc etc.
So far the names I like best are
1. Knights and or Warriors. We ARE a zOMG clan which means we're kind of battle focused. We should have 1-2 teams focused mainly on zOMG and battling! 2. Guardians or Overseers. for forum moderators, but both names are used elsewhere. XD. 3. for the event organizers I haven't heard one that really struck me yet. ;_; So far the best I came up with is Stewards, because in feudal times a steward would organize events for a kingdom or castle. 4. Guards? Rule Enforcers. (Is this redundant with the forum moderators?) 5. Crafters. I like the idea of having a division for artists, but I'm not entirely sure how this fits with the clan 6. Wizards or Shamen - Research, mostly posting links to guides and updating the zOMG newsfeed and or FAQs. 7. Ancients - sounds cool. Kinda unnecessary, but cool.

I think I'll suggest another. How about "Squads"? A few days I was repeating the names off to myself and to me, nothing just really felt right. Today I as playing through Luminous Arc 2 and in the game the kingdom's knights were divided into squads depending on the specific duties they carried out. The Talon Squad was mainly the more offensive knights. The Tusk Squad were mainly the defensive. And the Stinger Squad were the magic casters.
So there's my choice: squads. :]

I thought about Squads, actually. Silly as it is, the reason I didn't suggest it is that I can't help but think or squads of X-wing space ships!

I like the name "tribe," even if we dont use all the titles for them that my dad suggested. "Tribe" makes me think of untiy and power... a strong force that plays together and fights together! It just makes me think of togetherness!
I understand that some people want to keep it medieval, sort of, and we can still do that. I dont know how, but Im just giving my not-thought-out opinion! Lol!

Well I've made threads to start the divisions. If you have an idea which one you'd like to try out, go ahead and post in it! I think I have enough posts reserved. Even after you join it will not mean that you can't change later. Nor that you can only do those things. But I hope it will help people get more active by giving them a smaller focus.
I don't yet have ALL of the suggested teams included. Some of them can be added if we have several people wishing to join. I am still calling them teams to give people some time to vote in the poll. whichever name gets the most votes will be what we call the teams! I think I will leave the voting open until 1 week after the next newsletter goes out.

lol - Yuichi, I don't even have to go dig up your original post - I know exactly which series you refer to. XD
From that alone, I can guess the easiest way of marking different levels within our Ranks.... Apprentice, Journeyman and Master?
Does that mean we get neat little shoulder knots in specific colors for our groups? ^_^
... Actually, I'm kinda in favor of just calling the Teams simply by the name of their subgroup. Maybe (maaaybe) Clan Specialist: xxx or Occupation: xxx.
Unless you can think of a good group name for everybody that runs City Hall, and it's associated peacekeeping departments like PD, FD and Hospital...
exclaim And what about those of us who are cross-specialty inclined, like someone who likes to organize Events, but is also an artist? Should we be members of all of the subgroups that apply, and just hold different ranks within those groups? (I'm only a Journeyman level Fighter, but my.... Research and Literary skills are Master level, for internet purposes.)

Well we will work out details as we go. The idea of the teams is to help narrow people's focus and to get people working together in groups. I am likely to add or remove teams as needed. If one team has a ton of members and too much work it can be split and if one is inactive and small it can be removed.
For now I am allowing people to join more than one. I'd prefer that people keep it to two, so that they're likely to actually check up with both regularly. Once we have some members in each we'll work on figuring out the ranks in those teams. No-one should be leader of two different teams!
da_simple: For people who aren't really into doing anything like running hive crews to wave 139 and planning the next clan event, the support team and forum moderator team would be good.
The support team, as I have it listed, includes simply trying to crew with other clan members and respond to requests for crews. If you find that you're spending more time in the forums than in zOMG then maybe join the forum team. That team doesn't all have to be true moderators. It can include anyone who checks on the forums periodically, responds to questions, and if you see a problem you may report it to a moderator to handle. Both are things many members already do, but working together we can try to make sure that they're well managed.
