flutes are def. harder. with tubas you have the resistance of the instrument, flutes are just blowing across a hole into nothing. i know because i'm a flutist who can easily play tuba.

IMO i would say trumpet, because all those compressed tubes that twist and turn puts a lot of preessure, thus needing a lot of air.... i only know this because my cousin who played trumpet said so, im a wood wimp xD lol idk so yeah thats my 2 cents though... :3

Any wind instrument takes a lot of air. They're 'wind' instruments for a reason. xD I can play any reed reed instrument with no difficulty though, and I'm a horn player. I cannot for the life of me get a note out on a flute though.

Flute, man. In the begining, realy. It takes forever to develop the ligarture...Ligature...whatever its spelled, and hard. Plus, its hard to hold out a note. I dont know much about brass, but the people Im friends with that do tell me its not that hard.

-Band-Geek1101 I'd say piccolo. it's an evil nasty thing to try playing higher notes. AH I never thought of that! It is smaller so that might make it harder than flute. 'course,I only play flute so I cant be sure.

My instrument the tuba. Carrying that 60 lb thing around marching and blowing air into it takes huge air.

all wind instruments take a lot of air but trumpets have to play high and loud so it might take a little more

In a study, they found flutes took the most air to play. It may seem like a very small instrument, meaning you may think less air, but not all of the air goes into a flue, as it does with a tuba. I play the flute, and I can play the tuba...well. It is harder to get enough air into the flute, as you have to aim the air and the mouthpiece is not pressed against your lips. over all, they both require tons of air, flute just requires more. Hope this helps!

For the music that we have to play then I say baritones and trombones. I know that the tuba take a lot of air but it isn't common to have many tubas doing anything more complicated than eighth notes or a sixteenth note every now and then. (at least for our band). Our band usually depends on the low brass to be loud and play the best (which we usually do). That's just my opinion though. I think it differs for every band.

it depends what you mean
if a flutist has a really good embochure(sp--but i don't care) then it can take less than a tuba, whereas embochure doesn't have anything to do with the amount of air, just the sound on a tuba
not to mention that any given band generally has more flutes than tubas...plus the tubas are in the back
i guess i vote for tuba. but there definitely needs to been an equal option on the poll

Ok IDK why but the flute takes as much air as a tuba. Weird huh? Well my instructor told us about a (think it's called base...) flute. The "base" flute is way longer and bigger around. Well if it takes as much air to use flute as it does tuba, than think of that thing!! AHH!! Well That is the most air. If not that you'll like die. My teacher was tellin us if she were to play it she'd be out of breath every other note lol. stressed So ya, try to top that lol
