"Don't worry, you get used to the size pretty quickly, but it can be confusing at first," Rogue told Sarah as they walked down the halls. It didn't take long for them to reach the office, and Rogue came to a stop outside the double doors.

"Here we are," Rogue said as she stopped. Rogue knocked to let the Professor know they were there, and then waited for him to respond.

"I hope so," Maxis replied, smiling at Kiara. Okay, so I just made it through a conversation without messing it up. And on top of that, this person thinks I'm cool! So, maybe being a lizard isn't so bad, he thought to himself.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Come in," came the voice of Charles Xavier, responding to the knock at his door. It was certainly a busy day, with two new students arriving at his doorstep. Not that he had a problem with it. On the contrary, he was quite glad that people were willing to come to him for help, and he was only too willing to extend a hand where he could.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Hey there, Rogue!" came another voice, this one from behind the two waiting outside the Professor's study. Abe, having finished his game of tag with Kurt, had taken to hopping around the halls of the mansion, looking for something else to do. And then he noticed Rogue and the new girl, and decided to stop by to say hello.

Sarah smiled as they got to the door and Rogue knocked. Another voice came from behind them and Sarah turned to see a boy coming up the hall. He had called Rogues name so Sarah turned back to face the door as a voice from the other side called out for them to enter the room.

Kira grinned happily before retreating to her temporary room and immediately flopping down on the bed. Just the fact that she had a bed under her again was amazing, and this time she didn't have to worry about being attacked in her sleep, the Professor had promised saftey. Rolling over she spotted her phone lying on the dresser next to her bed and sighed. It was time to bite the bullet.

She reached her hand to gasped the phone and speed dial her parents. Anxiousness once again took the place of exhaustion as she listened to the ringing. Then it was replaced by a man's tired voice, her father's tired voice, "Hello?"

Kira gulped before taking a shuttering breath, "Hey dad." She said to begin a conversation that could last for the rest of the night.

Rogue heard Abe at the same time that she heard the Professor tell them to come in. She waved at Abe, and opened the door. "Professor, this is Sarah, she said she wanted to talk to you, so I brought her to you. Sarah, this is Professor Xavier, he can answer any questions you might have."

Rogue wasn't one hundred percent sure of what to say next, and she didn't know if Sarah wanted to talk to the Professor alone or not. She was debating whether or not she should go, when she remembered Abe. Relieved to have an excuse to leave, she turned to Sarah. "I'm gonna go see what Abe's doing. I'll catch ya later, alright?"

Rogue stepped back into the hall. "Hey Abe. What're you up to?" she asked.

"Eh, not much at the moment. I was playing tag with Kurt earlier, but we got bored after a while. So, I figured I'd wander around the halls. Logically, I'd find something to do eventually, and even if I didn't, I'd get some practice in with my power," Abe explained.

"New girl, huh?" he asked, cocking his head towards the girl waiting outside the Professor's office. "Relax, you'll be fine!" he called out towards the girl, before returning his attention to Rogue.

"Anyways, as I was saying, I was looking for something to do. And then I spotted you with the new girl, and decided I'd investigate. It's good to know what's going on in the mansion, right?" he continued.

Her face turned pink when the boy that had called to Rogue at first called out to her telling her to relax. "T-thank you!" She called out to him then stepped into the professor's office.

After she had closed the door she walked over to the desk Professor Xavier was sitting behind. Sarah bowed her head to him and said, "Hello Professor, my name is Sarah Lyons. We spoke briefly over the phone about me coming to stay here at your school." Sarah was trying hard not to stutter, which happened often when she was nervous.

The day's moving along found Owen in fouler and fouler spirits. With the weather being the way it was, there were fewer people around in the streets, and fewer opportunities for him to score anything. He could probably try a convenience store, but he always preferred tackling those when he was able to find something to serve as headwear; his dirty white locks were easy to remember, and when items went missing off of your shelves, it wasn't hard for the cashiers to put the pieces together. Besides, he liked having his orb weaver along for the ride; it gave him someone to talk to, and it was more time spent with her before she would eventually go the same way that all insects were destined to go.

He walked along the sidewalk, remembering to keep his head up lest anyone notice a stray spindly leg in his hair. He found himself going past a large wall broken by what to him was an impressively large gate. He had walked past it before, and on occasion even ventured close enough to squint through the bars at the magnificent mansion that must surely lay beyond. Sometimes he had heard voices carrying across the lawn, but today all seemed quiet. "Who do you suppose lives here?" he wondered aloud, and not for the first time. He felt a small poke on his scalp and heard the tiny rustling hisses. Always asking, never finding. If you wish to climb up and see, why don't you?

Owen shrugged, but the question stuck. He HAD wondered for a while, and so long as he kept an eye out for any nosy passersby, it wouldn't be anything to climb the wall and see what it was that lay beyond. Who knew; maybe they'd have a back door where he could scare someone into throwing some food at him. He had a favorite trick where he would have one of his biggest spiders on his head, like he had now, then he would hold his breath and charge right at the person. Being invisible, it would look as though a huge spider was flying towards them, and that was usually enough to make anyone freak out. The only trick was dodging so that should they strike out, the spider wouldn't be hurt.

Pondering just how he would do it, he reached out and found a handhold, then a foothold, and then another handhold, and before he knew it, he was sitting up on the wall, feeling the moisture seep into his jeans. Suddenly fearing that someone on the sidewalk might see him up there and call attention to him, he placed his hands on the wall and carefully jumped down, landing onto slippery wet grass. He stayed crouched for a moment, then slowly got up, hearing an angry hissing and something he couldn't quite make out, but sounded like a spider's curse. Grinning, he straightned up and proceeded to move along the inside of the wall.

"Ah, hello, Sarah. Yes, I remember your voice. I notice you've already met one of the other students," Xavier said, acknowledging Rogue's assistance in greeting the young girl. "I understand that your life has not been easy, but I hope you can see this place as a home in time," he continued, smiling softly in an attempt to put the girl at ease. From what Xavier had learned, the poor girl had lost her parents at a young at, and had been living with her grandparents ever since.

"We've prepared a room for you in the girls' dormitories, which are located up the stairs in the main foyer, and to your left. I apologize if I can't show you myself, but as you can see," Xavier said, wheeling out from behind his desk, "I have some trouble with stairs," he said, smiling and hoping his attempt at humour was not lost on the girl. Xavier could easily have let his disability rule his life, but he preferred to make the best of his situation, even if it meant making light of himself every now and then.

Her eyes went wide for a moment. She had had no idea. Sarah felt sorry for him for the fact that he was confined to a wheel chair but she was glad he could make small jokes about and smile. She smiled at him.

"Thank you so much for this, Professor." She bowed her head to him. "I'll leave you to whatever you were doing before I came in here and go find my room. Thank you again, sir, I'm forever in your debt for this oppurtunity you've given me." Sarah smiled at him once more before leaving the room and closing the door behind her.

Looking at Rogue and her friend she grinned, all nervousness gone now that she had talked to Xavier. "He said I have my own room!" She trilled gleefully to the goth looking girl with a big smile on her face.

"Yeah. I'm not very fond of being out of the loop myself," Rogue told Abe. She was about to suggest that they go find something to do, when Sarah came back from talking to the professor.

The new girl was excited to have her own room and Rogue didn't blame her. "That's always a good thing. I wouldn't mind a roommate too much, but I'm a lot more comfortable without one. I'd be way too on edge about accidentally touching a roommate, if I had one," Rogue said. She wasn't exactly thinking of the fact that Sarah wasn't familiar with her powers and might find the statement odd. She was too busy mentally shuddering at the thought of sharing close quarters.

"Come on. I'll show you where the rooms are." Rogue motioned down the corridor, and started heading towards the stairs.

Her head tilted in confusion at Rogues comment as they walked up the stairs. "What do you mean touching a roommate accidentally?" She asked when they got to the top of the stairs.
PostPosted: Fri Mar 27, 2009 2:16 pm

Rogue sighed at the question, realizing what she'd just said. She paused at the top of the stairs and looked over at Sarah. "Well, ya see, my powers aren't exactly very people friendly. My ability is your ability." She raised her gloved hand to shoulder height, showing it to Sarah as she continued. "If I were to take my glove off right now and touch your bare skin with mine, I would absorb your power. I'd be able to do what you do for a little while. But the drawback is that I not only get your powers, but I'd get some of your memories, and knock you out cold. You'd only be out of it for a few minutes, unless I grabbed hold of you on purpose and didn't let go for a minute. Then you'd be out for a couple hours at best. So, needless to say I'm a bit paranoid about touching people. I feel much more comfortable when I have a layer of fabric between me and them, which wouldn't always be the case if I had a roomie."

Rogue dropped her hand to her side and continued towards the girls rooms. She walked down the hall to the closest unoccupied room and opened the door. "This one'll be yours. You can change the furniture around to your liking and add your own touch if you want. I'm the third door on the left, Kitty's in the one next to mine, and from the sounds of things, I think Kitty must have gotten herself a roommate. Funny, I guess someone must have just come in without warning. That happens sometimes, and then they share a room until their own is ready. It'll probably be this one next door to you, since it's not taken. Anyways, Jean is across the hall from me. And the other Sarah, is across from you. That's everyone at the moment. I'll letcha get settled in here, and see ya later."

Sarah nodded and smiled at Rogue. She couldn't even begin to understand what it was like not being able to make any kind of contact with anyone out of fear of hurting them. The most she worried about was loose feathers.

Before going in her room she bowed her head to Rogue. "Thank you for showing me to my room and helping me find the Professor's office. I'm a good listener so if you ever need to talk I'll be around. Thank you again and see you later." She went into the room and shut the door behind her. She tossed her backpack onto an empty chair and flopped down on her bed and stared at the ceiling. A small sigh escaped her lips as she thought about her parents. The people she had met here so far reminded Sarah of her mother and fathers accepting and loving personalities.

"Mom, Dad...I miss you guys so much. You'd love the people here I know it." She whispered as she started to doze off, the flight here had taken more out of her then she had thought since she had to fly so high to avoid being seen. A moment later she was sound asleep.
