Anxious Prophet

PostPosted: Sun Feb 22, 2009 10:38 am

Name: Faline
Temper: Spiritual
History: Born into an already diminished herd, because the fires ravaged and destroyed their homeland, Faline never exactly knew her parents. Their lives may have been claimed in the great fire around her birth, or they may have been taken later; because their numbers were so small, anyone who was not royalty was taken under the collective care of the herd. With the fires taking all that they knew, it was uncertain who would survive into the next week to see their children raised, so the herd came together as a collective and raised all of the fawns as the herd's children rather than individual pairs'. While the upbringing was odd in comparison to that of the prince's, who was always kept separate and reminded of his royal heritage, Faline never questioned it, as it was all that she knew from a very young age.

It became apparent early that while she was not royal she was different; originally, she was not called Faline, but the much more common Faune. However, as a fawn she often slipped away from the group of children, wandering farther from the herd's safety than anyone liked, and found herself drawn to the great trees. She would listen to the wind whisper through them, and voices that no others could hear filtered through to her, taught her things of her heritage and of the name of her spirit. Faline, they said, after a proud and beautiful doe who cared for her people with a gentle and firm temper. When she told the elders of the herd of this, they realized that they had a special fawn on their hands; truly, in these troubled times, their watchful ancestor had returned to watch over and protect them once again.

Renaming her Faline, she was drawn away from the rest of the herd's fawns and encouraged to mingle in the forest, growing more in tune with it and falling in love with the soil, grasses, and trees in ways that ran through to her soul. Though not royalty, she was recognized as the bearer of Faline's will and spirit, and so she was different from the common herd's children, but not quite on the same level as the prince. Still, she was allowed to spend time with him, and though she had little interest in the buck, they gradually formed a friendship.

If given the choice, Faline would have spent all days among the trees and away from the others; not because she disliked them, but because she knew there was so much to learn, so much to know. The trees also warned her of impending danger, and a few times they were able to escape the edges of a great fire only because she had been able to warn the herd in time to move them. The elders of their herd recognized that they would not live forever; they needed a few, among the new generation, to lead the rest and make certain their noble bloodline survived. Who better than the prince, of royal birth, and the reincarnation of Faline, their beloved ancestor?

She has understood her duty from a young age - she is to protect and govern the herd, to be their strength and their protection in spirit while the prince is such in body. If that means leaving behind the forests that she loves so much, she will do it, and she will become an example that the others can follow while she does.
Tell us a little about Faline's personality: A proud and gentle doe, Faline was raised in the lesser circles of the Ceryenei social heirarchy, but one would be hard pressed to see it when they look at her. Possessing grace that can only be attributed to her closeness to nature, she is quiet but not softspoken, and seems to move as a part of the forest rather than through it. She is strong and wise beyond her years, only because she's always had the spirits of the trees whispering to her and guiding her, strengething her soul and crafting her to be the sophisticated doe that she is named for. She isn't one to follow orders blindly, but understands that when the mind wars with the heart, there has to be a victor; if it means her own happiness, she is more willing to sacrifice it for the greater good than most, but it still comes with the pangs of disappointment and heartbreak. She is responsible and mature, with a strong sense of community rather than family; because she isn't of royal heritage, she was raised simply as one of the herd's children, and so she considers them all cousins and siblings in a manner.

Though it seems that she would be a soft temper and easy to sway, nothing can be farther from the truth. Like the great trees that once sheltered and protected the forest she loved so much, Faline is a pillar of strength for her herd, more impressive because she is quiet and unassuming about it. She sees it as her duty and it has never occured to her to strive to be less than she is; blessed with the name of her honored ancestor and gifted to hear the voice of the forest, she's always known she has a certain responsibility to live up to the task that has been set before her.

There's a young doe inside of her somewhere yearning to be expressed, and she can be seen in times of peace and prosperity, peeking out through gentle eyes and a flirtatious smile. Faline just understands all too well that dire times call for somber personalities, and what others need right now is for her to be their strength - even, especially, the prince.
How did she feel about leaving the forest behind, for a new land?: It's tearing her apart. Not many would see it, as Faline is a master of guarding and directing her own emotions, but every step that leaves the forest behind feels like it's wrenching her heart from her. Though their numbers have been declining and the trees dying, she's comforted herself by the fact that she could still hear them, still feel the presence of the forest. As that wanes, the temptation to slip into bleak spirits is strong indeed, but she holds herself away from her heart in order to tend to those who cannot. As their numbers are so small, she knows it's more important now than ever to be someone that the younger can turn to, an example to show that rejoining their cousins need not be a sorrowful occassion but instead a celebration. Even if it goes against everything that she feels, someone has to do it - and, whether she wanted to or not, she has unconsciously slipped into the role of "alpha doe" for their dwindling numbers, providing guidance and strength from nothing.

Name: Faline

Temper: Responsible

History: Many generations ago, when the Cerynei first left the Kawani lands, Faline's ancestors served as scouts for the retreating herd. It was they who found the moon-dappled forest and led their companions there. In return, the ancient King Cerynei gave them honor of serving as retainers to his royal house. They have served his line loyally ever since, acting as caretakers of the great forest.

Faline has trained rigorously since she was a young filly to become the perfect personal assistant to the Prince. She knows everything there is to know about the Cerynei Forest; the bend of every river, the home of every predator, and the uses of every single medicinal herb. It was her family's job to take care of the woods and keep it healthy for future generations, and Faline gladly accepted her clan's burden as her own.

If only they hadn't failed.

Tell us a little about Faline's personality: Falina is kind, reserved, and dutiful above all else. She like nothing better than to lend a helping hoof to those in need, and feels antsy when she doesn't have any work to do.

Faline has fallen for her childhood friend, the Prince, but she considers him too far above her station for anything to come of her feelings. Her family's status has fallen too low now that the forest is gone.

How did she feel about leaving the forest behind, for a new land?: Falina blames herself for what has happened. Her family was supposed to tend to the forest. Yet no matter what they did, the fires kept coming, and many of their number fell into despair. Falina knows it's arrogant and irrational to think so, but she can't help but feel that the exodus would never have been necessary if she'd been better at her job.

Falina is too devoted to her Prince to voice any objections to his plans. She knows that he thinks he is doing the right thing, to save as many of them as he can. That being said, she hates the thought of giving up on the land that nurtured them. Separation from the forest makes her feel useless, and she has fallen into a quiet depression. All she can do is stick around and do whatever busywork the Prince assigns her.

Name: Faline
Temper: Hopeful
History: They were always so close to the line. They were always the best picks for the mates for the Princes. They never were chosen, but kept around for another reason. Faline's family had been around since they first moved to the new lands. They were the storytellers, the soothslayers of the clan. Their stories were always rich and colorful, and showed the young ones what the Cerynei have been through.

But as the days grew worse, and she watched her own parents parish to the sickness and decay of the land, the stories changed into prophecies. Faline could see the land was dying, as did everyone else, and could see that if they stayed, they too would parish. Faline was chosen to help the Prince move the Cerynei out of the forest, for she knew the way back to the old lands.
Tell us a little about Faline's personality: She is hopeful that her people will find better lands, but there is a darkness that hides in her. She puts on a happy face for those who are dying, and those who have lost loved ones, but she fears that they story will repeat itself. She tries to not dwell on the doubt, on the fear that this move will not help them, but it is there. It haunts her dreams at night and creeps into her heart. The light is strong in her, but the darkness is encroaching. She fears what the lands they left so long ago have become.
How did she feel about leaving the forest behind, for a new land?: Faline put on a happy, determined face for her people, and her Prince, but there was a bit of fear in her. The old stories told of why they left the old lands, why the Cerynei had come to the present lands. Faline feared that the lands they were moving to were far more deadly than these. A shred of hope lied in her, knowing that the Prince wouldn't lead them astray. He had a good head on his shoulders and was very strong. This didn't qwell all the fear in Faline's heart, but it did help with some of it. The storyteller genes in her sparked to life, as well, and she focused on memorizing everything of the journey; later generations would want to hear the story.

Name: Faline
Temper: dedicated
History: Her family was decended from some of the first cerynei to settle in their now fading homeland. They have a conection to the land and Faline has many healers and teachers among her ancestors. Because of this status among the herds she had all the advantages of high birth and grew up with the current prince of their people. The two are wonderful friends and she'd do almost anything to aid him now that responsibilty has fallen upon him.
Tell us a little about Faline's personality: Faline is dedicated to her family, friends and their forest home. She's always there to help and enjoys teaching young fawns the ways of the forest.
How did she feel about leaving the forest behind, for a new land?: The fading of their homeland affected Faline deeply. The bulk of her family even chose to remain behind hoping that with most of the cerynei gone the land would begin to heal under the tender care of the dedicated. She, however, was ordered by her parents to travel on to support the Prince and the main herd. Since she knew they hoped for her to someday be his chosen bride she felt betrayed by her family for forcing her choice in the matter. Its taken some time for her to accept her new place but her dedication has been placed firmly with the good of the herd. She has no desire to see her parents again though she has hopes their efforts will succeed and future generations will be able to return.

Name: Faline
Temper: Hidden
History: Her mother always hoped she would be great while her father always wished she would carry on his travels. While her father snuck her away every night for a tour of the forest the days were spent learning manners and the proper way to address someone of a higher status. To the others who knew her she was a doll, precious, beautiful, and the perfect little lady. The heiress to a wonderful bloodline. But her heart called on her many a night as she grew and she was often found wandering the forest, moving closer and closer to the edge. Her home, her comfort, held her back but she always wondered, how far did the beauty go? The night she reached maturity and was to take her place beside her Prince, her father dared to go that far. No one knows what got him but it is known he did not last long as he stumbled his way back to his family. A few years passed and she clung to the forest more then ever, disappearing often to wander the paths her father took her. Her reserved, and proper side began to crack and it is only a matter of time before it shatters.
Tell us a little about Faline's personality: Nothing about Faline is as she seems. Around the Prince and others she is reserved, vary much a yes ma’am/sir kind of girl. Her speech is soft, her words proper and careful, a princess. However, she, from the moment she was born, lived for entertainment, adventure, and fun. On her own or with those not part of the Cerynei, she is spontaneous, adventurous, and enjoys getting down and dirty. However her minds is not troubled by negative thoughts, either. Perverse, obscene, or rude comments never cross her mind. She is useless in an argument or a fight and should someone insult her, she would be none the wiser.
How did she feel about leaving the forest behind, for a new land?: She was terrified, for the first time in her life. Her father had died, leaving the forest, and her only memories were in the beautiful landscape she lived in her whole life. But her training kicked in and she silently bore the pain as they moved from the forest. In truth, while the thought of what lie on the other side terrified her, and the though of leaving her mother, who refused to leave, and her memories, her father’s side urged her to go, to seek the adventure. Terrified, Sad, and Excited, all in one little innocent package.

Name: Faline
Temper: Modest
History: Faline had known the Prince since they were foals. She has come to love the forest and those who reside in it very much, perhaps too much. While she was growing up, she would often hear her name being mentioned. It turned out they weren’t referring to her, but instead of an ancestor who had sacrificed her feelings in order to preserve the cerynei bloodline.
Tell us a little about Faline's personality: Faline is not naive nor overly experienced. She comes to reasonable conclusions that usually put the forest before her.
How did she feel about leaving the forest behind, for a new land?: When she was first informed of the decision, she was devastated. How could they possibly leave their beloved lands? It was where she had grown and met the Prince, where she had heard great stories and had many adventures. But like the Faline from the past, great sacrifices had to be made. So history repeated itself, and after a short time of debating it, decided that her needs should come before her wants.

However, Faline was never one to appreciate the attention that she got. As time went on, less attention was brought to the family, much to Faline's pleasure. Nevertheless, her family still made it clear that she was still to set a prime example and keep a strong beautiful image. She wanted to ask others to help find him, but she still needed to keep her relationship a secret. Faline set her mind on not leaving the forest until she finds some evidence of her lover. However, when the Prince gave his orders, she had little of a choice but to leave, especially when she was under the pressure from her family. Leaving the forest was the most difficult thing she has ever done. She was not just leaving at home, she was leaving behind her love and her greatest happiness.

How did she feel about leaving the forest behind, for a new land?: Faline is heartbroken about leaving her home. She worried that they would get lost, or get attacked by wolves. But she knew that she couldn't stay. Her home was dying, and she knew that if she stayed, she would die as well. Name: Faline
Temper: ardant
History: Back when the Goddess walked the forest among the plants and animals, and the Cerynei were her beloved children, Faline’s line was granted guardianship of the forest. Since then the line has remained pure and strong, steadfast in their devotion to both their duty to protect the forest and as councilors to the royal line. Never had they wavered or been demanded of to make a choice- the forest or the herd.

As a foal, Faline was a little aloof, and seemingly fey. She refused to make friends with other members of the herd, claiming that she had all she needed in the forest itself- wisdom and guidance from the trees, and companionship from the birds and chipmunks and other little woodland creatures. But as was the duty of the family, she was presented as the replacement councilor to the Prince once she reached maturity. The Prince himself was noble, and demanded respect with his presence, and Faline- as guided by the forest- could not but befriend him. This was her duty, but it was also a privilege.

The doe grew closer to the Prince and to the forest, her duties coinciding nicely, and she was content. As long as she could walk the forest paths and receive its wisdom and offer protection, and could advise her friend, setting him on a course to do what was best for both the herd and forest, there was nothing she lacked.

But soon, she noticed the forest growing sicker, dying, and there was nothing she could do to protect her charge. There was less and less food for the herd. And fewer and fewer children were being born. It seemed the cerynei and the forest were slowly fading into obscurity. The forest urged her to advise the Prince to take the herd elsewhere, but it felt like a betrayal to her lines, and to the Goddess, so she kept quiet on the matter for as long as she could, and only reluctantly brought it up when it was obvious they had no other choice in the matter.

Tell us a little about Faline's personality: A slightly distant female, driven by her duty to forest and herd, totally devoted to the Goddess and what her role was set out to be. She is extremely loyal to the forest and her Prince, but claims no other ties to members of the herd other than her family, and even those ties are tenuous at best.

How did she feel about leaving the forest behind, for a new land?: Each step taken felt like a betrayal, her heart crying out that this was wrong, the cerynei weren’t meant to leave the forest. The only thing that allowed her to go on was her absolute devotion to her duty. The forest itself whispered encouragement and she took a deep breath to continue. She had failed in her family’s sacred duty to protect the forest, but she would not fail her duty to the Prince.

“I know that this is asking a lot from you, Faline, but there is no one else I can trust with this.”
The hair on the back of her neck raised. She was not going to like his request, Faline knew, but she dipped her head in aquiesence. “Whatever is your will, it shall be done.”
“I need to find a new forest, a new place for us to settle, and I want you to be in the advance party. I can’t trust anyone else to do this for me, for all of us.”

So with a heavy heart filled with anguish, sadness and despair she set off to fulfill her duties as would be expected of any of her Goddess-touched lineage.

Name: Faline
Temper: Passionate
History: Faline’s parents were never really liked by the rest of the Cerynei, especially not by the Prince’s family. In fact, the Prince’s family despised Faline’s as one hates any who hurts him, although Faline’s family had never done a thing to instigate any sort of anger. They were just…different. Her father was seen as an eccentric nature-lover, and her mother was the strange one who talked to butterflies, bees, and other insects. The Prince’s family had no sympathy for those who didn’t conform to what they deemed as “the norm.” As such, they were appalled when Faline’s father, Ferlin, approached them with his request that the entire herd move back to the old lands.

“The trees are dying your majesty, they wish to die.” He muttered, long mane of white tangled with leaves and twigs covering his frantic orbs of red-tinted mud. The King and Queen turned their head’s in disgust when he had approached them, and now they scoffed at him haughtily.

“The trees wish to die? Then let them rot. New trees shall grow, as we have grown from our ancestors’ ashes. Now leave us wretch, your presence is not warranted.”

“My lord, they wish to burn.”

“Did I not tell you to leave Ferlin? Speak of this nonsense once more and you will be removed.” The King had his back turned, following his Queen. The Cerynei who acted as the guards escorted Ferlin, a dejected mess of white, brown, and leaf, out of the clearing. Faline’s mother, Ella, then pregnant with Faline and her brother, came to greet her mate. Ferlin simply looked at her, and Ella began to weep. The butterflies had told her that the forest was to die soon, consumed by red tongues. They wept all that night, and tears came again in the morning. Faline and her brother, Folieche, were born.

Time wore on and the forest had still not burned. The King and Queen were aging, as were Ferlin and Ella. With age, the monarchs’ hatred, as with their son, grew. As the royal family grew more hateful, the family of Faline grew more wary. They had been forced into seclusion so that their ‘incessant babbling’ would not frighten the others. And unfortunately for their family, Folieche had picked up on the herd’s hatred for his family and began to scorn his family as well.

Some say that Ella died of a broken heart; others say that she had finally got what anyone who talks to bees gets eventually. No one knows exactly how she did die, for her body was never found. Ferlin believes to this day that the butterflies carried her away to the Earth Mother who transformed Ella’s body into the group of monarchs that were always near the family.

Faline was devastated by the loss of her mother, but Ella had taught her to not be sad when she died, for the Earth Mother would take care of her. Faline stayed as strong as she could, taking over her mother’s duties.
As she grew, so did the boundless love of nature that Ella had instilled into her. Folieche had left them to become “the norm”, and Ferlin began to become more eccentric. He went about shouting of the rapture that the Earth Mother was to set upon their foolish herd, how they were to return to their cousin Soquili. No one but Faline listened then, and even she sometimes faltered in her faith of the Earth Mother. She always prayed that the Earth Mother would forgive her afterwards.

And then she met him, the Prince. He was so handsome, so caring for his people, even Faline’s family. The ignorance of his parents had not fallen on him, he found Ferlin to be charming actually. He made frequent visits, discussing matters of spirituality with the older Cerynei. Ferlin never missed a chance to tell the Prince about the trees wishing for death, and the Prince always promised to tell his parents. Faline would watch from afar, becoming enthralled by him. She developed a crush on him, blushing whenever he would pass her by.

And then everything began to happen. The foliage began to rot, the wildlife abandoned their homes, and even the sky seemed to become dead in a blanket of gray clouds. The herd was on the verge of starvation, the Prince was visiting Ferlin more often, seeking his council instead of the council of his parents who had given him their position. Ferlin told the Prince they must leave, before things got worse. The herd refused to listen, as the warning had come out of Ferlin’s mouth. Faline grew depressed, often found to be weeping over a dead bush or rotting tree. Her faith in the Earth Mother continued to wane, her prayers were less frequent. Ferlin could do nothing but watch as his daughter fell away. The Prince noticed Faline’s attitude, often inquiring to the source. She would explain and feel her heart uplifted by his concern, her faith slowly re-growing.

Then they came, the fires. The gray clouds were masked by toxic black smoke, the foliage became unrecognizable heaps of smoldering ash, and the trees exploded into black candles in testament to the Earth Mother’s wrath. The herd realized their folly, and with the old monarchy, followed the Prince and Ferlin out of the lands to rejoin their equine cousins.

Tell us a little about Faline's personality: Faline is best compared to a diehard missionary. She’s passionate about nature and the Earth Mother to the point of others considering her a zealot for her and her father’s beliefs. If asked, she will preach; if offended, she will harshly rebuttal until they apologize. And if she sees nature destroyed intentionally, she will attack. However, when not on a spiritual high, she’s a very soft, sensitive doe with a tendency to cling to anyone who treats her nicely.

How did she feel about leaving the forest behind, for a new land?: The spiritual side of Faline accepted that the Earth Mother had predestined for this all to happen, and that they were meant to come to this new land and rejoin they’re brethren. However, her heart still grieves that she had to leave the area where her mother’s butterflies stayed.

Name: Faline

Temper: loving

History: Orphaned by a forest fire when she was very young, the little doe named Faline was taken in by the Prince of the Cerynei. To this day she still does not know why he chose to take on the care of a young doe when he had the burden of his lands and his people to bear, but she is ever grateful for the fact that he did. She rarely leaves his side, but she loves all of the Cerynei and does her best to help her prince care for their people. Under his tutelage, she grows into a strong doe and a gentle mother figure to all who will have her.

Tell us a little about Faline's personality: Sweet, loving and kind, Faline is a great friend and one of the most caring does anyone would ever meet. Nevertheless, in her heart is a core of steel, and she is not afraid to protect all that is dear to her. Fiercely loyal to her land and her prince, Faline struggles to reconcile her two loves when the forest decays all around her and the Prince chooses to seek out new lands for his people.

How did she feel about leaving the forest behind, for a new land?: Faline was torn. On the one hand, she was following her noble prince into new lands and a new life. That was certain to be an adventure! Plus the young doe knew in her heart that the forest the Cerynei had called home for generations was no longer really their home. The slow creep of decay was steadily sapping the strength from the soul of her people, and she knew that her prince had made a wise decision in choosing to lead them out and search for a new land to settle in.

On the other hand, Faline would always feel that the forest was her true home, that no other place would hold the same peace and life that her birthplace did. True, it was no longer the forest she once knew. The once proud and spirited forest was now a haggard old shadow of its former self, riddled with death and disease. The doe felt the heartache already, and wondered if she would ever truly feel at home anywhere else.

But alas, the choice had already been made. Faline would never dream of being anywhere but at her prince's side, and her prince had chosen to seek a better life for his people. In her heart, the young doe would mourn the loss of her beloved forest forevermore. In her head, she knew that the future of her people lay in whatever new lands her people would find. She would keep the memory of her birthplace and her true home in her heart, while moving forward to search for life, love and hope.

Thanks heart

Name: Faline (isn’t that Bambi’s girlfriend’s name?)
Temper: rambunctious
History: Her ancestors were among some of the first to abandon the plains for the forests, and for that have been blessed with a deeper connection to the woods. Theirs is a proud line, boasting some of the most beautiful and graceful of the Cerynei. It’s been tradition for the royalty to pick mates from Faline’s line. The fires, however, have devastated the Cerynei population, bringing with it also famine and exhaustion. Their numbers are thin, and Faline is the only eligible female to be betrothed to the Prince. A fate she rebukes despite her heritage, refusing all commitment to him.
Tell us a little about Faline's personality: Both proud and estranged of her people, she doesn’t believe the Cerynei can survive within the lands of the Soquili and that they’ll lose their way. She feels like the only voice in the sea of noise speaking any sense, and no one is listening. She follows the Prince with all the respect that’s bred into her, but can’t help the feeling that he’s leading their culture to it’s end; even if there is no other way for them to survive.
How did she feel about leaving the forest behind, for a new land?: She would give anything to stay in the forest, where the sunlight dapples through the leaves and there’s life all around you. Would give anything at all; but the forest grows dark with death and she knows she cannot stay. Bitter about this, she promises herself that she will return when there’s a possibility of living there again.

Name: Faline

Temper: Sweet natured

History: Faline had everything she could ever want. Loving family, wonderful forest to frolic about in and great friends. She even had the "family" she could watch over. The Prince as you would have it. She had been there when he was born, the fateful day that her father made it known she would be taking his place once it was time. She would be companion to the "family". Such a task would be easy for her. So she thought, she was sweet and caring being a companion to the "family" helping where she could and being friend to the young Prince would be easy. Wouldn't it?

Tell us a little about Faline's personality: Faline's personality is sweet and caring. She wants to make sure others are taken care of around her. She likes to be of service having had a long line of those before her in service to the "family" she is very protective of those she loves and generally has a soft spot for most living creatures. She even tolerates it when others are rude to her. Believing that they must just have a bad day to have been mean. However, don't ever harm those that she cares deeply for she will be true to those she is sworn to, to the end.

How did she feel about leaving the forest behind, for a new land?: It seemed only seconds ago leaving the forest she knew and loved so well, behind. There was a Princess in the plains, one that needed the aid of the "family" and since Faline's duty was to be companion to the "family" she felt it only necessary to leave along with them. Her heart heavy as she slowly walked out of the forest. The magic seeming to die all around her with each passing step. Her eyes kept down and misted with sadness. That was her home...this was her duty, she looked up and saw the "family" and the Princes and smiled for the first time since the decision was made. She would make the best of this that is of course why she was chosen, she would always take the history of the forest wherever she may go. Although her heart broken with sadness as she left her beloved forest her mind thought of the duty before her.
