"Thankfully." Murmured Emris though he too listened for the children. A small smile flickered over his features, "We should head out after them in a bit." He noted before yawning.
"Chaaa~" Leif pounced after a particular yellow butterfly before going after a black and blue one, "Flutters are fast!" He yelled before swerving after another one.

Terrie sighed contently, then nodded. "Who knows what those two will get into." She said with an amused giggle. She was happy to have inquisitive children, but it made them a handfull at the same time.
As Leif swerved after the butterflies, Mersi could only shriek happily and hang on to keep from rolling off her mount. "Get it Leif!" She cried as she tried to reach out with one of her small hands at the flutter bugs.

"Whatever it is I have a feeling that we'll have to run baths for them later though." Replied Emris with a chuckle. His heart raced happily as he listened to the sounds of their home. He had really missed them all and was definitely glad to finally be home.
"You grab, I chase!" Replied Leif mischievously as he ran along side the house after a small clutter of butterflies. Up ahead was a bush full of blooming flowers where he could faintly remember them resting. Would they be there again today?

Terrie sighed. "Baths. Just be sure to get the Mersi done first. The boys tend to squall around and head straight for the mud if they're not being watched right after it. Mersi usually watches quietly, or plays in her room."
She patted his chest, giving his cheek a tender kiss. "Come on. Lets make sure they're not hurting themselves or the house."
Mersi set her jaw and nodded. "I catch." She replied, trying to stretch her hand a little more. She missed a small grey and brown one and started to growl, narrowing her eyes. She was going to get one! Her bright eyes took in every flutter bug she saw, reaching clumsily as Leif ran. "Almost." She yelled out encouragingly to her brother.

"Aye." Emris laughed softly, "I'll remember that. Thank goodness Mersi at least stays clean." He smirked and stretched once more before heading towards the doorway. He peered outside and frowned slightly when he realized that they weren't in the front yard anymore. But then noise of giggling reached his ears and he smiled. "I'm takin' that they're out back." Whispered Emris as he looked back to Terrie.
"Aww, come'on!" Muttered Leif as he chased after some more butterflies. Finally the child felt tired and was almost about to give up until he spotted a huge yellow one lazily resting on a bush. "Ah hah!" He cried and jumped after it. The next thing he knew, both him and his sister were falling. A soft thump sounded as Leif landed onto the soft leaves of the bush, "Oops."

Terrie nodded. "I think she'll turn out to be quite the lady. I'm so excited to see how they'll be when they've grown... But I'm happy to have them small and huggable while I still can." She giggled. "We can probably see them from the kitchen then."
Sighing about Leif slowing down, she had relaxed and loosened her grip when he bolted for the last butterfly. Yelping, almost giggling even, she yelled like a child on a roller coaster when they tumbled over.
Mersi kept rolling though, on through into the trees and some brush. When she stood back up she was dizzy, disoriented, and alone. What had happened? Fear clutched at the child. "LEIF!" She shrieked, falling over from the dizzyness as she tried to look around for her brother as the trees around her spun. "LEIF!!"

"Yes." Replied Emris softly remembering the feeling of hugging his children and keeping them close. A small sigh as he realized that they would have to grow up in time. "I feel the same." He whispered softly to himself before turning around, "To the kitchen then?" Emris chuckled as he closed the door and looked down the hall. His ears twitched though, surely he didn't hear faint yells?
"Ouch..." Something poked into his arm and Leif found himself struggling in the branches. But he wasn't really worried until he heard his sister's yells. "Mersi?" He whispered with fear shaking his voice as he fought to free himself from the bushes. What if she was hurt or in trouble?! "MERSI!?"

Terrie nodded before her own ears twitched. It was probably just the children playing around... But her step was quicker than usual as she headed to the kitchen, and she went for the door instead of the intended window. Was that Leif yelling? "Leif?" She called as she opened the door.
Mersi shook her head, the dizzyness subsiding. "Okay Leif. Where you go?" She gave a sigh as she stood up shakily, unused to being alone outside. The trees had stopped spinning at least.
She nearly jumped when a sharp growl raised in her ear from behind. She spun, facing a large wild wolf, thin and still hungry from the long winter. "LEIF!!!"
She spun again and ran, not sure where she was headed. Just away from the growling beast. "DADDY!!!"

Heart pounding the foxtaur felt that something was absolutely wrong. What was going on? "Terrie!" Emris rushed towards the door and gently made his way past his mate so he could get a view of what was going on outside.
Finally Leif managed to wiggle free from the bushes, but only to see his sister being chased. The child foxtaur's eyes widened and his heart nearly paused in fright. Paralyzed Leif didn't move until he realized that this beast was going after Mersi. "Mersiii~!" He cried out and grabbed a stick hoping to fight off the beast. "Leave Mersi alone!"
An instant rush of energy hit Emris as he finally caught sight of his children running -one away from, the other towards- the wolf. "I'll send them to you." Emris stated as he jumped from the doorway and out into the yard. His eyes flashed darkly as he ran out to meet the wolf that was chasing his children. Hopefully this one was a rogue or was far from any pack.

"Mersi! Leif!" Terrie yelled, running out after Emris. Heck with sending them to her. She was going to go to them! Giving a split second thanks that Tokala was inside napping, she sped across the yard for her son. "Leif, stay away from it!"
Mersi's heart felt like it filled her little chest as she ran, relief sparking in her mind when she saw her brother. "Leif! Help!" Spotting her parents running toward them as well, she didn't see the proverbial nothing that was reserved for dramatic movies and tripped over it, sending her splaying on the ground with a yelp.
Behind her, the wolf growled in triumph, figuring he could now get to the child and get away before those others could reach them.

"No!" Leif didn't look back to his mother and tears stung at his eyes as he saw his sister fall. Determination set place in his gaze as the young foxtaur sped up his little paws thudding heavily against the ground as he prepared to charge at the wolf. "No!"
"Mersi, Leif!" Thought Emris before gritting his teeth, surely he would reach them in time! His strong legs braced themselves for a huge leap towards the wolf whenever he got close enough to tackle the thing.

"No!" Terrie cried out. Bending over she scooped up a rock and threw it at the wolf in one smooth motion. She would tear it to pieces if it hurt her babies. Her mother-instinct adrenaline was in full gear as she caught up to Leif and scooped him up and in another few steps grabbed up Mersi, spinning heel and running back to the house.
Mersi's limbs failed as fear gripped her. She imagined that the wolf's hot breath was on her neck, ready to tear into her. She curled into a ball and squeezed her eyes shut, screaming for Leif. Hearing the wolf yelp, she had half a second to crack an eye open before feeling her mother scoop her up. Uncurling, she reached over to Leif, clinging desperatly. In her mind, it would always be her brother who had defended her, grabbing up the stick and running toward her in defense.
The wolf howled again, but this time missed a step. What had hit him? He turned his head, slowing a step, giving Emris the chance to tackle the wolf to the ground. It howled in irritation, snapping at the foxtaur, growling as he saw at the edge of his vision his prey being carried away.

A sigh of relief as Emris noted how Terrie had acted so quickly and accurately. But his attention returned to the wolf as he wrestled with it and slowly taunted it away from his family. "Come on!" He growled, his tail swishing against the ground. Using a fallen tree limb as a staff he fought with the wolf. His gaze was sharp and Emris handled the 'staff' well against the wolf. He'd just have to defeat it and make it leave his property until he could check on his family and get Xennek to come with him on a 'hunting expedition' to clear their area of the forest.
Leif clung to Mersi despite his protests at being stopped by his mother. Wide eyed the young foxtaur looked around for his father who had disappeared with the wolf. "Daddy!" He cried wiggling in his mother's arms, "Where's daddy?!"

Terrie hugged her children tightly. Running inside she set them down near the sink. "Leif, my brave boy. I need you to watch Mersi for me, get her cleaned up. I'm depending on you. Daddy and I are going to chase that mean wolf away. Stay with Mersi." She kissed their heads again and ran back outside.
Outside, she picked up two more rocks. She readied her arm, waiting for chances to throw them at the wolf.
Mersi cried silently, clinging to her brother. "Don't go Leif." She whimpered, compulsivley petting Leif's hair with a shaky hand.
The wolf was usually strong, but a barren winter had left it hungry and weaker than normal. The staff was stabbed into his side and at his head. It thought it could still take on the one taur, but when the other returned, it growled, snapping once more at Emris, slashing for his chest before turning tail and running away. Now... he had a vendeta. He would get that child someday... Get back for losing its ear.

"Terrie." Emris dropped the stick and looked over to his mate with a small smile. He'd been surprised by Terrie's sudden appearance, yet was glad for the help. 'She's a brave one.' He mused before looking back after the wolf. "How's Mersi and Leif?" He finally asked pressing his hand against the slender slash across his chest that the wolf had gotten in while his guard had been weakened.
Leif pouted and reluctantly dropped his plans of chasing after his parents. Turning to his sister the foxtaur's eyes softened, "It's okay, Mersi. Really." He hugged his sister and cuddled her while hiding his worried sobs. "Don't worry. "
