Joshua nodded, obviously waiting for an answer from his mother. "Why do you hide your ears?" He asked. He could tell by the look on his mother's face that she was annoyed. But why? He was just asking.
Thali sighed, and looked at Vox. "Well, if you know so much..." She muttered, "You tell him."

"Vox doesn't know what he's talking about, he's merely teasing both of you. He has a nasty habit of acting like he knows what he's saying but in reality he doesn't have an idea."
Rit did her best to patch the damage that Vox had done to this mother-son relationship, and it made her sick to know that while she never had to worry about Vox being like how Joshua was, it also meant that she and him would probably never be that close.
"Just forgive him for now, and ignore it. He most likely made the remark because you were fixing your hair and he took it the wrong way."

Thali nodded, accepting this explaination. "Probably," She said. "My younger son acts the same way." Lie. Vincent was too modest to act like he knew much. She silently wondered.. She'd never met a child quite like this one.
She was relieved Joshua appeared to be average.. At least.. so far, he had.

"Luckily for me Vox is all I have to worry about, and he's not really even mine. He belongs to my older brother, the one I spoke of before, and I'm just caring for him until he returns home."
How often Rit must have told herself that to prevent any killing of the Kelpie brat. She must have it tattooed against her brain by now, to keep it from happening again and again. Jack had trusted her with this, even if it was entirely based on him being half-assed and forgetting, but it as still. . .left to her.
"You were just joking, right Vox? You have no idea what you're talking about?"
Her words were a little whip as she looked down at the toddler, who seemed to shiver for a moment before he nodded his head to keep himself out of danger.
"Yes, a joke."

Thali nodded in understanding. That sounded all too familar. Rit reminded her of one of her friends. She paused, and smiled at Vox. "You probably miss your dad, huh?"
Josh was disapointed. He'd thought he was going to be told a secret. Not a joke. The joke hadn't even been funny! Wasn't it a requirment that jokes had to be funny?

"My dad? No, I never met him. The first person I've ever seen was Rit, so as far as I know she could be him despite being a her. She says she looks just like him since they are twins, triplets or whatever, so I assume looking at her is okay too."
Vox leaned forward and place his head on Rit's shoulder, a rare gesture that made her feel really uneasy about it. What was he plotting?
"I don't need a dad. Are you Josh's real mom even?"

Thali nodded in understanding. Vox didn't miss his dad because he hadn't met him. That made sense. Though, she had an uneasy feeling about his question.
"It depends on what you consider real." She said with a shrug. Of course she was his 'real' mom. She'd found him. She loved him. He was hers.

"You're right, and Vox should watch once again what he's said. He doesn't understand to be speaking as he is, and I apologize. But also...I think we'll just come back for what we need another day. He seems in the mood to be spiteful towards others and I would hate for you both to dislike us because of my toddler's mouth."
Rit frowned and then smiled, a sheepish look of apology and dismissal. Vox seemed to understand her ill ease and shut his mouth as if he was going to refuse to speak from then on out, which seemed to be a smart idea.
"Ms. Thali, little Josh, I hope to see you again sometime soon. Most likely when Vox has learned better manners, and I've had a chance to teach him a little more. Until then, please take care."
Rit didn't leave any more time for any words, even farewells, as she took off on her heels back towards her home. She'd wrap her wounds in cloth for now and hope for something tomorrow.
