"No offense to your father, or your mother, but they're going about it the wrong way. You don't want to still your mind into silence, just control it, center it, and use it."

Sekenre scratched his chin.

"For us, thoughts are power. During your prying into my mind, you felt and read nothing from my mind. That is because I have transformed the power of my thoughts into a shell that lets nothing out and nothing in if I do not want to. Also, its helpful in sneaking up to or away from a psion."

"Right! Only, it does not protect your body but your mind. Once we master this, we can move on to the finer points."

Sekenre leaned forward from the tree and closer to Addy.

"So, focus your mind and thoughts. Keep them under control. It will be hard but you will get it."

While Addy was concentrating he said, "This, and a number of abilities, will be know as your mental defenses." Sekenre got a flash of her thoughts and furrowed his brow. "CONCENTRATE" The words were felt more than heard, like two tombstones grinding against each other.

In his normal tones, "Don't concentrate on keeping others' thoughts from you, concentrate on keeping your thoughts and your mind in whole from others."

Hmmm she's having a hard time grasping the concept...There's something missing...oh yes, the necessity for survial.

Sekenre opened and closed his hands several times; Each opening produced a butterfly of blue flame, a trick he learned from his father. In total there were seven butterflies. He waited for her to open her eyes again. If he remembered correctly, Addy would give one good burst of effort, become frustrated if she didn't accomplish the task, pout/whine about it and give up. He only had to wait, and that is something he's perfected over centuries.

"What? These?" Sekenre raised a hand to the butterflies "These are what I call incentive."
He motioned for one to land on the ground. It obeyed. Then he motioned for it to rise. Again, it obeyed. Where it had landed the grass had burned. My butterflies here are honed to your mind. They purpose in existence is to land on you. To avoid becoming like this grass, you must for your defenses and block your mind from them. Think of this as a game of hide and seek. You get a two minute head start."

Sekenre looked up at the tree and smiled. He brought his attention back to Addy. "Go."

"Well that was a little harsh don't you think. She's just a child." Said a disembodied voice.

"She'll keep her gift of childhood, I'm just here to make sure it doesn't get stolen from her." Sekenre stood up, faced the tree and bowed. "Its safe druid, you can show yourself."

In a whirl of leaves, a night elf formed and upon closer inspection there were several physical "adaptations." The elf was taller than most humans but still short for an elf; he stands at 6'5". His Pale angular face and pointed ears are accented by emerald green eyes and long, wavy green hair. Entwined within the hair are branches and leaves; there is no definition where the start or end. His left arm is humanoid but his right is that of a trent and ends in a wooden claw. Though strong it is quite dexterous and fully functional. He wears armor made of heavy leather and bark from the Ancient Protectors. The chest piece is spiked with the bark and travels down his left arm; cutting off at the right shoulder blade due to his trent arm. the Legs are actually a long kilt that merges into the forest floor. he walks bare foot preferring to feel the earth beneath his feet.

"Its good to see you again Krillo." Sekenre made a motion with his hand that sent the butterflies off to complete their task. "Come, Japi would like to speak to you."

"He's crazy!" Addy muttered under her breath, looking at her sister, then back toward the front yard. "Gonna burn me to ash, unless I do something."

She thought hard again, concentrating on making herself scionically invisible. But how did she know these things wouldn't see her plain as day, standing there? She wished she could make her body invisible too.

That was it! "Just think like it's all me." Don't separate my brain from my head, it's all the same.

She pictured her whole body becoming invisible and stayed quiet. How long was left from her head start? Were they already coming?

Her questions were answered moments later when she felt a small disturbance in the area around her, followed by several other similar ones. She didn't want to open her eyes, for fear of losing her concentration.

She felt them out there, fluttering about, threatening to land on her. Sometimes they almost did and she thought they were going to, so she braced for it. But they didn't. Why is that?

That had to be the key--the secret to it all--and she had to figure it out. Quickly.
