He chose not to respond to her final words and instead rolled his shoulders and moved passed her. She had spoken of fords and had she moved further up originally there was one nearby that would prove suitable. It wasn't a long trek either - the slope was a little steep in parts but this worked to the advantage of one such as she. When it came to crossing rivers, the higher the hill the better for the rivers were generally a lot narrower and steady than they were on slopes with a more subtle incline. This was what he had observed at least as he brought up at least... The higher one got, the shallower the water appeared to be.
He wasn't to know that this was because it took thousands of years for the water to carve against the rock but the fact that fords did exist was a valuable tidbit of information to anyone. This in mind he was content to move on without recognising her fear of distance between herself and her current place of 'residence'. He would ensure she would return home in due course and would do so before the weather turned and the sun descended into it's watery bed for another day. Her concerns regarding his patrols were accurate of course but he had no intention of admitting this to her.
It was his duty to ensure the visitor was taken care of and while it interrupted his usual routine he would continue with this task. It wasn't a question of his own preference so much as a matter of decency. Not one to go back on his word he would remain in her company until he had taken her home or she dismissed him in a much more direct manner. To remove him from her company she would have to tell him to leave directly, the polite and 'considerate' behaviour would do nothing for her. Some might have called it rude but to Ambroise his duty was everything.
"Then we travel across," he replied smoothly as he passed the mare and continued up the slopes. His legs braced himself for the strain and he tackeld the incline with considerable ease. It would be a short trek eastward on the slope but eventually they would find another brief plateau that would provide both of them with a fjorde to cross. After that it would all be downhill again and the mare's legs would be able to relax. Unfortunately the incline was simply too steep for him to trick her into believing she wasn't travelling far though but alas, he couldn't make everything quite so pleasant...

Perhaps bluntness was what Ambroise needed in order to part ways with Elizabeth; that being the case, Ambroise was rather stuck with Liz for the time being, as there was absolutely no way she would dream of ordering someone away under present circumstances. She wasn't entirely sure she believed that this was 'non-interference' with his schedule, but he obviously knew what needed to be done better than she; if he would rather stay with her, she wouldn't try to force him away!
Consequently, she accepted his silence on the subject with silence of her own, nodding her acquiescence to the idea of moving off, but otherwise letting the previous subject drop. "Very well."
She much preferred things this way, if she were being completely honest. Rambling around on her own was one thing, but leading a native when she didn't know heads from tails was nothing if not unsettling. Even with the increasingly steep incline underfoot, the journey was much easier when she didn't have to lead. Besides, a little exercise was healthy!
