Kanani nodded and looked around. They needed something like a bag, or at least a blanket to carry them back out. Speaking of which, they needed to find a way out too. She walked around, suddenly noticing something strange about the sand directly below her paws. It seemed...hard. Granted the sand near the trees appeared hard too, but it was a different kind of feeling. This felt more like she was standing on something. she brushed away the sand and found something like a bag buried a thin layer beneath the sand, all folded up and buried beneath the sand. Frowning, since she didn't know how she would have been able to tell it was beneath the sand. After all, the cloth wasn't hard. She opened the bag and found within it a smooth and flat stone. It wasn't big, but perhaps that was what she felt before. She placed it aside and called out to Zaphero. "We got a bag!" She walked over and looked to him for the words as they would be in his language.

"U ruw?" (A bag?) Rather than seem overly pleased, Zaphero frowned in confusion. If there was a bag here already, that would surely mean that someone had been here before to take the gems. Why then did they leave the bag? The cavern suddenly seemed a lot more sinister, and he began to look around slowly, his ears lowering. "Jemokxadw aj dek hawxk...." (Something is not right....) He felt an odd sense of familiarity, as though he would know what was going to happen next, if he could just try a little harder to remember..... A grating sound reached his ears, and he turned his head to the left and saw a series of large blocks sliding away from the wall along sandless tracks. As soon as they came to a stop, there was a miniscule hiss, and green-tinted air began to rise up from now-exposed vents in the ground. Zaphero's eyes widened, and he ran over to one of the blocks, ramming his shoulder into it and attempting to push it back to the wall. "Kanani! Xuhho! Fijx kxom rusb! (Hurry! Push them back!) Push!"

Kanani stood frightened for a second before snapping out of it and acting. She ran up to the block Zaphero (thinking it would be faster if they worked as a team) was pushing and pushed it the way it came, being mindful of the green tinted air. She couldn't be sure, but she bet it was poisonous. She felt a bit guilty about the bag apparently being a trigger for this trap, but pushed that feeling aside with the block, now back into a wall. She then ran to another block to try to push that one back as well, moving quickly so they wouldn't die in this place. At least there weren't any ominous skeletons lying about.

Feeling Kanani's helpful push, Zaphero was quickly able to put the block in place, feeling his nose sting at the green gas. He couldn't place it, but it seemed as though he should have known about it. Perhaps it was just his panic that Kenani was here with him and was in danger. Seeing her on the second block, he ran to the third and began pushing against it. He had held his breath as long as he could, but as the last block slid into place, he let his breath out and caught a puff of the foul green stuff. It burned his throat and made him cough, but other than that it didn't have any immediate effect. He moved to the fourth block, gritting his teeth as he shoved. "Zijk....edo meho..... (Just......one more....)

Kanani avoided breathing as much as she possibly could, pushing the second block into place. She resisted taking a deep inhale, choosing instead to take a small one through her nose until she felt safer. The lack of breathing was making her a tad light-headed, but it wouldn't be for much longer...
She ran over to the fourth block to help Zaphero push it in, hoping that neither of them had inhaled enough of that green air to hurt them.

Once Zaphero heard the last block slide into place, he let out a long sigh of relief and sat down, letting the air clear for a few moments before breathing too deeply. Once the supply was shut off, the gas seemed to take no time at all to dissipate. He couldn't help but smile; he wondered who had first set the traps and why they had used such cheap gas to ensure the safety of their sea gems. Perhaps the gas had been there for so long that it had become less potent? He mentally shrugged; what mattered was that it had failed to harm them.
Zaphero smiled at Kanani in a reassuring way. "Kxuk nuj scejo." (That was close) He wanted to tell her about the odd feeling he had, as though he had encountered such a trap before and even had a vague idea that the gas was not as potent as it could have been. But he was afraid of coming off sounding loopy, so instead he walked over to Kanani and ventured a brief nuzzle. "Kxudb oei veh xocfadw, Kanani." (Thank you for helping, Kanani)

Kanani smiled at the nuzzle, returning it happily and just as briefly. "Ooj, ak nuj sclejo. You're welcome, and kxudb oei to oei too. If it weren't for oei, I don't know what would have happened," she added truthfully. She probably would have panicked without Zaphero there to tell her what to do, and without help the threat would not have been taken care of so quickly. She hoped that there weren't anymore traps, but didn't voice this concern out of superstitious fear of jinxing them.

Smiling at the mixture of English and Saurian that he was fast liking, Zaphero felt himself tingling all over his face as his nuzzle was returned, as though he had pins and needles. When it was over, he looked back to where the gems still lay, the bag in a crumpled heap beside them. He had a feeling that they would be able to exit safely now; the entrance hadn't even been blocked when the gas had started to flow in.
He walked back toward the gems and carefully placed two of each color inside the bag. So bright were they, that small gleams of colored light were seen seeping through the weave of the bag, making it look more like a magical satchel and less like a moldy old bag. Still smiling, he turned to Kanani. "Now we......m-must......find a way.....out."

Kanani nodded and looked around carefully. The room they were in didn't seem to have any hidden passages, though she couldn't be sure. She carefully investigated the wall cautiously, lest there be more traps. Not seeing anything, she looked back at Zaphero, "I don't see anything...I bet there's an exit hidden somewhere we passed by since falling down to this level." She wished she knew more of those words in Saurian, but she didn't. Maybe he would translate, or perhaps she'll learn them soon enough.

"An....exit..." Zaphero paused and digested this new word, thinking. A hidden door, of course! There was sure to be one somewhere, since the place they had come was too high to get back out, and there had to have been a way for the harvesters of the sea gems to re-emerge from the mountain. Walking over to the left side of the cavern, Zaphero peered at the wall there, trying to see anything that might indicate a secret door. He saw a series of odd scratches near the bottom of the wall and peered down at them. He couldn't read them, but perhaps......He turned around and called softly. "Kanani?"

"Hm?" Kanani looked at where Zaphero was pointing, where the definite form of words ran along the bottom of the wall. They were worn away, and hard to read, and Kanani lightly brushed over them to make it clearer. Squinting, she gazed at the sentence, which read... "Let your adventure end here."

( whee )
"Ad-venture.....end?" Zaphero wrinkled his nose, puzzled. He still didn't see any door, or means of getting out of the gem chamber; seemed like all the writing did was state the obvious. Frowning, Zaphero peered harder at the scratches, moving closer to the wall as he did so. He was almost touching the inscription with his nose when he felt a small rumble below his footpaws. Stepping back hastily, he blinked as a portion of the wall fell away and became stairs, leading only a few yards down, where a rushing noise could be heard sounding loud in the cave. "Wa-ter?" Zaphero recognized the sound and took a few steps into the tunnel before backing out again and turning to Kanani. "Water......slide."

Kanani blinked as the new tunnel opened up, and the sound of water drifted into her ears, echoing slightly in the cavern. She nodded, understanding what he meant. "Yeah...I hope it isn't too rapid," she commented, imagining that it could very well cut across from where they needed to go. Carefully, she slowly entered the tunnel, mindful of strange stones and such which could be rigged as traps of a sort.

Zaphero was about to suggest that he go first, when he saw Kanani enter the tunnel. "Ra-pid?" He wasn't sure exactly what Kanani had meant, but he did know there was something about the water that she needed to know. He had seen the dark liquid rushing past as he had looked down into the tunnel, but it hadn't been moving quite right. He knew what it was, and thought perhaps it would answer her thought of the water being 'ra-pid.' "Kanani," he called as he quickly followed her down the tunnel, being careful not to bump into her from behind and accidentally send her sprawling. "Kanani; water.....is......up." He wrinkled his nose in frustration and tried again in Saurian. "If. Kxo nukoh aj vcenadw if." (Up. The water is flowing up.)

Kanani looked behind her at the call of her name, and tilted her head at the mention that the water was "up". First she thought that perhaps he meant that it was a waterfall, when she investigated the water once more. Something about it seemed...off. Then it clicked, and his second statement made more sense. "Ooj, ak aj..." She wondered how this could be, and was a little hesitant to move forward before she had a confirmation that this strange anomoly wasn't a danger...or at least not yet.
