Awen set down the brush as she turned back to Lauren, her hair less knooted but..still matted to her head. She grinned broadly. "You just signed your own death certificate!"

Now normally Awen really was a nice sweet girl. She was quiet and friendly and didn't much want to hurt anyone, or even upset them at all. But set her infront of Soul Calibur 2..... and she shows no mercy.

She hurried forward and took the game from Lauren's hands but before she put it in the PS2 she paused. Slowly she turned to lauren and gave her a short looking over. the gears started turning in her head and....three....two....one.....

She jumped a bit, accidently flailing and pitching the game case across the room.... "You've changed!" She practically shouted in surprise. "But when?" She started looking slowly at all the details. "ooh..cute tail too!"

She had obviosuly grown more comfortable with the people changing since she had met Ian. He really helped her tackle a few obstacles the other day.

Lauren laughed, "Yeah, probably I havn't played video games in a couple of years. But I don't give a s**t if I win or loose, as long as I get a few lucky shots in!"

She then watched Awen flail across the room, the game flinging away. "Yeah! I did isn't it SWEET?!" Lauren was a bit more muscular and less scrawny, had a tail, claws, orange eyes with horizontal slits, longer canines and pointed ears. "Heh, thanks, it kind of gets in the way at times, and it... just does things. I mean I can control it but it has a mind of it's own at other times." She began to blush. "Oh and there is the musk... I keep wanting to rub my scent on things. Did you know everyone has their own scent!!" She sniffed the air a bit. "Hehe, now I know Awen smell" A wide smile crossed Lauren's lips.

She giggled hearing Lauren go on. She hadn't seen this tough girl so..hyper before. It made Awen grin. Seeing Lauren like this only helped her and Awen's ability to relate. It's nice to look up to someone but being able to giggle with them is such a bonus too!

"I knew everyonehad a scent since I was little." She said quite honestly. Her smile faultered a little bit. "For a long time I didn't let anyone go in my parents room after they died... it smelt like them and when I crawled in their covered it reminded me of them...." She trailed off a little bt momentarily thinking of her past. She remembered the wet sticky feeling of the pillow case she had been crying into sticking to her cheek, or how she realised her parent's smell was fading from the covers..and finally had to let someone wash them.

Awen shook her head a bit and smiled again. "But great for you!" pausing again she leaned forward. "Did it..um...hurt?"

Lauren giggled with Awen, there was another side of herself comming out, it seemed to come out best when she was with company she trusted. Given that Awen was in her dream, she kind of did trust her.

"Well, geuss you don't have to have yellow mongoose in you to figure that out." She sympathised with Awen, "My mom died not to long ago as well, never been around my father much until then. After she died he kind of died as well, just in another way. It was more like he became... a monster." Lauren shuddered at the memory, her claws rubbing the five cigarette burns on her arm. Whenever memories surfaced up, they began to burn again. "Maybe that's why we get along, we both know that kind of pain."

She was glad Awen changed the subject, but still had a bit of trouble switching gears, "Hurt like hell, but I'm good with pain. Doc would give you pain killers I bet if you don't deal with it as well." She smiled, "I guess I'm stupid for refusing them."

She tilted her head a little bit. "So you seem to be... Well you know what you're turning into then mongoose right? Most of the others I know have a vague idea but can't really tell..." She thought about it for a little bit. Would the doc really give pain killers? Awen hadn't thought of him offering any to the other islanders....

Awens stomach kind of tightened when Lauren mentioned about them both knowing that kind of pain. She knew that when her parents died yes it hurt Awen deeply emotionally, and sure she did develope a few phobias from it she was scarred for life mentally and all that stuff. But she never had to deal with her father turning into a monster as Lauren put it. She didn't have near as hard of a life Lauren had.... and she knew it. She just came from a completely different world. And to know Lauren thinks they felt the same pain...? Awen felt guilty because she knew Lauren's had been much worse....

"So he..um..offered you the pain killers? Was he there when you transformed? Where were you actually? Does he give that kind of treatment to everyone?" She was so full of questions today it seemed. Trying to keep her thought occupied instead of sinking into depressive things.
PostPosted: Mon Oct 17, 2005 9:16 pm

Lauren nodded, "I know quite a bit of what people are turning into. I don't think I've ran across your file though... sorry" She put her head down. "The doc hasn't been giving me lessons as frequently anymore and you're new so yeah... that's why and that's the truth. I'm not lying at all!" And she wasn't, but she wasn't used to that.... not lying stuff.

She wondered why Awen looked so uncomfortable, "Sorry about your parents... does that have anything to do with your fear?" She had a flash of insight all of a sudden. Lauren knew tramatic events could cause paralising fears and parents dying is a highly tramatic thing.

"But oh yeah, he offered them up, I refused. I think The Dude took them as well... maybe one or two others. I'm sure if I asked for you, he would let you have them. He does tend to listen to me... most of the time." She thought back at how long it took him to transform her, even though she was begging at some points.

Awen kind of sank a bit hearing Lauren didn't know her animal .It would have been such a relief to know... She started seriously concidering the option of the painkillers. If it hurt that much... Maybe she should...?

Awen nodded a little bit. "Well at least that's what they think about my phobias... But I find it funny... I'm afraid of water but I love storms, yet both had a hand in my parents death. Funny how that works out eh?" She gave a kind of half grin that looked more pathetic than anything.

She resolved something right there on the spot though. She decided...she wouldn't take the pills. She wasn't one to sheler herself from thinks, besides water that is. And she already hated the serum having to be injected for the treatment, she hated the unnatural chemicals in her body. And she was sort of afraid of how the pain killers would react to the serum and her changing, she doubted it would help much anyway....

"Hey no need to ask Moreau for me. I.. could probably take it." She shruged a little bit trying to seem very non chalant about it.... like Lauren had when she tramped through the thorn bush...

Lauren shrugged, "Well I'm no shrink so don't take my geuss to heart, besides you should figure out your fear yourself."

Lauren was proud of Awen when she heard her decision, "Wow! That's the spirit I bet you can too. Don't want you to think I thought you were a softy!" This Awen was a fairly brave girl. "I bet you can take it as well!" Lauren gave her a playful punch to the arm, nothing hard at all. "yalp... oh sorry." She covered up her mouth embarassed at the high pitch bark of excitement, but her tail continued to wag.

Awen grinned broadly and concentrated on Lauren's little comical bark to help distract from the pain of Lauren punching her arm. She knew for a fact she was a softy.... but the point of coming here was to become stronger, right? She would try anyway.... but Awen had the gut feeling she would be wrething on the floor begging for pain killers not even halfway through...

But she continued to grin and even laughed a bit. "Hey no worrie Lauren, I guess it'll be hapening eh? What with becoming a ..mongoose and all." She never really knew what sound mongooses...mongeese..hm.. now how did you even way the plural of mongoose.... well whatever thye are Awen had no idea what their sound was, before now anyway.

Awen too a breath and tried to think of herself being strong like Lauren.
PostPosted: Mon Oct 17, 2005 9:59 pm

Lauren shrugged her tail finally stopping from wagging, "Yeah I geuss so, I'm just not so used to my emotions comming out so strongly. I used to be able to hide them behind a wall you know? But that's not always a good thing." She smiled back. "So I better get used to this barking and chattering and whatever other sounds I make huh?" She really really wanted to hug Awen, but the punch did kind of get her smell on the girl... just a little bit. She would wait until later... a good bye hug would be proper and definately get a good marking on her before she left.

What was she thinking?!?! Geese, she was getting so weird. "There are some things that are going to take some getting used to. Mongooses are tough, but the kind I'm turning into is more social. Some things I do like though, I grew into my jeans!" She pointed to her new muscles and a small almost miniscule layer of fat that has grown "You can only take being skinny for so long. Especially when that Timothy guy wrote a song about me being a skeleton." Her face frowned at that memory. And Thorn thought she was rather hot in a swimsuit since she put on enough weight to be considered healthy. She really wanted to find that Timothy again and... and....

MARK HIM WITH HER SCENT!! Yeah, that would show him.

Again, with the what the '******** moment' as to what she was thinking.

Awne smiled softly. "Yeah sometimess it's good to let it out."She said quickly between Lauren's faster paced sentances. "Yeah but the sounds are cool!" One... two.. three... "Yeah I can tell you're more social." One...Two.. "Yeah good job for fitting jeans!" One... "I wouldn't know I've always fit." One-half.... "Timothy?"

Awen was almost grinning as she had successfully, if in an undertone, responded to everything that Lauren had said, even if Lauren kept on going like Awen didn't say anything... it was still fun. But the mention of a new person really perked her interest.

"Who is Timothy? He must be older like you right? I mean not older older but uhh.. been on the island longer? He writes songs? That's pretty cool!"
PostPosted: Mon Oct 17, 2005 10:29 pm

Lauren finally breathed from the hyper talking. Was that the mongoose or was that her? She tried to talk slower and listen to Awen, "Yeah, he's been on longer like me but not as long as me. He writes very sad music. I havn't seen him since that day..." well, she hadn't except for seeing him transform. She felt a bit of guilt about that all of a sudden. How would she deal with a transformation now? "He's turning into a skunk. You'll know him if you ever meet him" She felt a little bit uncomfortable with the Timothy thing.

Awen listened to what Lauren had to say about Timothy. "He sounds pretty neat...' she felt some of the tnesion building in the room and decided to drop the subject of other islanders.

"I write some too... poetry mostly, but nothing lyrical enough to be songs." She giggled a little bit. "Pretty proud of what I have though." Even thoguh she said that she seemed as though she wasn't about the just share her work right then.

She shifted her weight a little bit. "Hey Lauren, I'm getting sort of hungry... I haven't eaten and well... everyone might have their own scent but OI'm relly starting to smell... I'm gonna..uh...go take a ...shower..." She shuddered a little bit but had accepted a shower as a nessecity and overcame that much fear of hers. "So uh... do you mind if we meet up again sometime later? Just need to wash and grab some food and all..."

Before even seeing if Lauren would mind or not she ussered her towards the door and practically pushed her onto the front walk. She smiled a little bit. "See you later hm?" Without anything else she shut the door right on Laurens face.

She didn't leave more explaination or pleasentry she just... shoved her out the door, knowing full well how rude it was. But she couldn't help it she felt she needed to get Lauren out of there quickly.

Her stomach knotted as she stumbled over to the bed and sat down. Something definately didn't feel right here. She shivered a little bit and huddled on her bed. Her breaths were more shallow than usual. She couldn't breathe properly, or at least she thought she couldn't. Has to be in her head it's all in her head.

She kept reminding herslef that it was all in her head. She had to breathe, slow calm deep breaths. But something...just didn't feel right. She crawled over to the nightstand at the front of her bed. She grasped for the picture there. Her parents... She held it close and hugged it to her chest. she closed her eyes tightly just calming herself down.

She eventually calmed herself down at least enough to breath, just by telling herself she needed air to live. She moved to her bathroom and hopped in the shower. For once... she found the water comforting. Her muscles relaxed under the heat. It was all a psychological game. this island was really messing with her mind anyway.... The Doc never really explained the side effects of the serums, she realised. She should have been able to breathe, she knew she was capable of it, but for some reason she thought she couldn't...and hyper ventalated.

She sighed softly and finally stepped out of the show and got dressed again. Her stomach rumbled a little but Awen just went to cleaning up her room before going out. She picked up the Soul Calibur 2 game from where she had accidently thrown it. She made her bed and set the picture of her parents back on the nightstand.

She sighed softly. Maybe she just was psycho... She smirked. What if this place was all in her head and she was really just in some loony bin with padded walls imagining all of this? Does one really know when they are insane?

She put that on a list of questions she should ask Moreau.

Whee! Awen's Insane! ((Jamal got pwned!))

Colour Code

Awen: Usual Blue
Emerwyn: Green
Jamal: Dark Blue
Emelyn: Violet

Awen was tinkering with some wires on the TV in the entertainment room. She went down to the room to explore and found that it had a kickin' TV and an xbox. She was appauled by the Doc though, sure the xbox was nice and all but what's an entertainment room with only one gaming system? Awen was currently plugging in her Game Cube to the TV. She had brought all of her games down and decided to share. Except for her PS2. She plays that too much to rreally give that up so easily. She was pulling back and turned the TV on. She flipped channels a few times and pressed the power on the game cube. "Aha got it!"

Emerwyn wasn't certain of what she thought when she entered the entertainment room. She never played video games, and avoided television whenever possible. She did watch some movies. But what she was really looking for was the one material thing she lived for - books. There were a few scattered about, but the selection wasn't too good. In fact, she was disgusted at the number of electronics as compared to literature. With a sigh, she searched the shelves. Most of the books she'd already read, but she picked an old favorite, Brave New World. Then she remembered how much she hated the ending, and she put it back.

Jamal sauntered into the entertainment room, his expression one of suspicious inquiry, a partially deflated basketball tucked under one arm. He hadn't yet taken a proper tour of the village and figured the rec center to be the best place to start with. Besides, it looked like it might be bustling with activity...and girls, of course. His gaze did a broad sweep of the room, mentally taking inventory of the electronics. It was rather disappointing considering how fancy the main building had been. He half expected a damn rollercoaster or a huge entertainment system. The black man gave an audible grunt of annoyance and a snort.

"Good lord, Captain Morgan- I can't follow you everywhere." She'd been at the orange majesty's beck and call all day, ever since the wee crack of the morning when she'd awakened to find the cat of the mellow-going islander mewling at her door. Now, he was persistant that she follow him into the gameroom and so she did, sighing as she went, and scooping up the orange beast as soon as they made it through the door. Only then did she realize- she'd never been in there before. And at least one of the current occupants... she'd never met before.

Awen hadn't honestly noticed anyone else in the room until she heard the destinctively male grunt somewhere behind her. She finally turned away from the TV, now proudly displaying the GameCube menu screen, and saw three distinct people she had never met before. One near the bookshelves she sort of recognised... but she couldn't figure from where. Maybe she was the person by the river? Awen let the thought go because it didn't really matter that much. The other two, however, she knew she didn't know at all. She slowly stood up and smiled. Not knowing which of the three to adress she deided to just address everyone. "Um well... Hello. I don't think I've met any of you yet." She said seeming to be rather bouncy-cheeful. honestly she had been in a much better mood lately. "I'm Awen" She knew she probably looked like a complete dumby just annoucing something to the room like that, but she wanted to know as many people on the island as she could. Friends were the only thing that was probably going to get her through this whole experience anyway. But she blushed a little bit in the few seconds of silence that always happened in situations like that.

Emerwyn was re-brousing through the book, trying to remind herself why she hated it, so she might give herself another shot at it, when a young lady's voice addressed the room. She spun around quickly. She was feeling rather jumpy for some reason. She saw the blue-haired girl who had disappeared at the river. She seemed to be in higher spirits today. Though the greeting was indeed awkward, Emerwyn complied. "Hello. I'm Emerwyn. We'd met by the river the other day." While waiting for a response, she skimmed more books, finding many on animals. Perhaps Moreau wanted to educate the islanders so that they can get used to their new bodies, and how they'll function. She wondered if she should do some research, for future reference...

Jamal cocked a brow lazily at Awen as she gave the entire room a mass greeting, a spark of mischief flashing in his eyes as he casually checked out all of the ladies present. One he recognized as Emelyn, whom he shot a wink to in hopes of catching her eye. The other two...well...the blue haired one looked a bit young and a little more eccentric than what he was used to. Not many brothers in Detriot had strangely dyed hair. The second woman seemed to be about his age, so he also shot her a wink and sauntered more towards the center of the room to be a bit more involved. "Whatup ladies," he drawled slyly. "Da name be Jamal...but yous can call me whateva ya like."

Emelyn took steps into the heart of the room, the orange tabby settling all his weight into her arms as she did so. It felt like a meeting of strangers- for although she'd met Emerwyn and Jamal before, they were one-time, bizarre encounters. The blue haired girl near the television, the one who'd spoken up to be introduced- was brand new, as far as she knew. "Emelyn," she said warmly, "And I'd shake your hand, except there's a cat sitting on it." She laughed, and turned to Emerwyn. "I'm glad to see you up and about. Moreau must have patched you up." She'd noted Jamal's wink at her- but for some reason, she felt strange entertaining flirting... after what had happened with Ambrose the night before.

Awen smiled slightly more from learning everyones name. She glanced to Emerwyn, though Amaya had told her name to Awen she'd forgotten it in the rush to get away from the water and they hadn't really formally met but... technicalities didn't really matter. She just felt the awkwardness in the room and wondered what she should do now? Well... you started it Awen you'd better get yourself out of it, she thought to herself. But honestly she knew she should have just kept quiet. What was she thinking anyway? She noted Jamal, who had winked at the other two women in the room but not her. Not that she was surprised really, Awen didn't think she'd wink at someone who had just tried for a mass introduction either. But enough thinking time for speaking... Awen flustered a little bit with words. She hadn't planned that far ahead. She looked tothe cat in Emelyn's arms. Oh hey a tabby would be a cool thing to turn into to.... Wasn't she supposed to be speaking...? "Um well, nice to meet you all. Sorry for the... weirdness.... New, nervous and...uh yeah... I'll just go and.. uh..." She felt herself going red to her ears soe she just turned and crouched back down by her games. "stupid..." She mumbled to herself as she sorted through the stack of games deciding which one to put in.

Emerwyn saw the man across the room wink at her. She smiled wryly at him. Turning now to Emelyn, she said, rather cynically, "Oh, the Doctor patched me up all right." She realized the lighting in here took away from the skeletal look her face bore in broad daylight. Otherwise Em would've plainly seen that Emerwyn was far from being "patched up." Now, she turned her attention fully on the young Awen. The poor girl must have it so hard... As do we all... She abandoned her books and sat down beside her. "It's alright." She placed a hand on her shoulder. It was finally her turn to lend a hand and an ear."We're all in this together."

Okay, Jamal's ego was effectively knocked down a few pegs when all he got was a smile from the strange older woman and hardly an acknowledgement from Emelyn. Jamal decided perhaps to check out the TV and gaming system was his best option for now. Besides, he did have some pretty wild gaming skills depending on the system. He nonchalantly tossed his deflated ball into an empty chair and hovered over Awen's shoulder, watching her paw through the games, hoping to see something familiar or potentially fun. A good shoot'em up kind of game maybe. He checked Emerwyn out, not all that discretely either, whilst he pretended to be absorbed in watching for something to peek his interest.

"Oh, well, I'm glad he did something..." Em said in a tentative voice to the back of Emer's head as she spoke softly to Awen- having noted the sarcastic tone in Emer's voice but not knowing quite what she meant by it. She'd also noticed that Awen had given Captain Morgan a look... which she mistakenly figured was a desire to pet or see the furry beast. So she released him onto a couch so all could enjoy the animal. Then she looked at Jamal- achingly aware that she was the only changed person in this room, and perhaps the only changed person he'd met. It made her feel a little self-conscious- after all, here was a man who probably just figured she was a freak... but in typical Emelyn fashion, she buried the insecurities and walked towards the other gamers.. "I hope that thing has four controllers."

Awen gave Emerwyn a small smile and a muttered thanks. She looked over her other shoulder noticing the big man hulking over that shoulder. She was feeling both happy and awkward as she flipped through the games at being in the middles of all these people now. She pivoted a little bit laying the games out infront of the others so they had a better view. She grinned up at Emelyn when she spoke. "What kind of gamer goes without enough controllers? Especially on the GCN, really it's more of a party system than anything else... nintendo is notorious for making the most and sometimes best fun multiplayer games. Though...nothing really beats out Halo2 in my opinion nintendo likes the more fun party games, mario party, super monkey ball...that kinda thing." She had converted her own awkwardness into a possitive rambling about gaming. "But I don't limit my game buying to those, I've got like resident evil somewhere here.... but if you're all looking to play...." She trailed off, only Emelyn had really said anything about playing. Emerwyn was jsut there to comfort and she didn't really see Jamal as the "party game" type. She just pushed the games out for the others to pick and fell silent again.

Emerwyn was certainly not the gaming type at all. She'd never played. Except for one time that Noah, the grown-up child that he was, had brought his video games to the bookstore for them all to play. She was lost completely and had no desire to pursue the activity ever again. She also felt the need to leave, because the poorly spoken man was looking her over as a shopper looks at different slabs of meat. Once again, she became very aware of how much less conservative her new clothes were, and she cursed Moreau and his personal tailor. She'd been leaning forward slightly, too, and she quickly sat up, wondering where her coat was. With all of this discomfort she simply smiled awkwardly; this island was driving her crazy. This was the second time she'd been at a loss for words. "If you'll excuse me, video games really aren't my thing." At last! she found her voice. She stood up slowly, giving a pat to Awen, and returned to her bookshelves.

"Resident Evil is ma game," he said enthusiastically after picking through her rambling and locking onto the familiarity of the previously mentioned game. "s**t, me and ma dawgs tear that game UP." For the moment, he had forgotten about either Emelyn or the woman whom one'd think he'd just assaulted with his mere (if not somewhat wandering) gaze. He vaguely heard her declare her distaste for gaming and heard her retreat away from the group, but didn't look up. Instead, he grinned at Awen in approval and clumsily knelt down to check out what she had there. Finally he had something to do other than sit in his room and smoke up whatever remaining pot stash he had left or try to place one-on-none with his partially deflated basketball which he had cleverly tried to fix with duct-tape when he was still living in Detriot.

"I've played games like this occasionally..." Em said, rifling through the titles with her almost claw-like nails- hoping that the scratch they made on the cartridges didn't disturb anyone. "But really, my favorite thing to do with gamers is to watch someone else play. ...My sister used to play things like... Final Fantasy and Tomba. I was in charge of the instruction booklets, and I'd keep her company while she'd play. Keep the boring parts like leveling up from making her not want to play anymore. " ...The memory stung, a little- and so did mentioning Mizzie. But she was going to have to start bringing the memory of her sister back into her every day life, if she ever wanted a chance to get over her death. This island was a strange place to 'move on'... but at least it was a definite starting point from a completely different perspective. Em sat on the couch and allowed the tabby to get back in her lap, drawing her legs up into an indian-style pose and settling back against the cushions. "Play away... 'dawgs'," she said jokingly, raising one brunette eyebrow pointedly.

She nodded a bit to Emerwyn when she left the emidiate group. not everyong liked video games and she understood that enough. Maybe Emerwyn would like to borrow the book Awen had brought since she seemed so intent to find new books there. But she would ask her another time and grinned broadly at Jamal. "Good at Resident Evil huh? Maybe we'll just have to see about that sometime huh?" She looked over to Emelyn now on the couch She felt kind of bad that only one person wanted to partake in the gaming but she understood sometimes she liked it better just to sit adn watch others play. "Final Fantasy is the best RPG, I have from seven up in my room. Awen looked back to Jamal and nodded her head to the Game cube. "If you want just pop the RE in there okay? I was really just setting it up and making sure everything still worked. sometimes, ya know stuffed in a bag for hours controllers tend to get....busted. But feel free to play yourself?" She smiled a little bit.

Emerwyn felt no qualms at all about leaving the group. She'd come here to read, and after her friends all split up, reading had become a solitary activity. She finally decided on Frankenstein, she remembered thinking about it when she first arrived at the island, the feelings and vibes she had gotten. She really looked up to Mary Shelley, too. She also made certain she'd grab a couple of animal books. So, she blinded grabbed one, tucked it under Shelley and started to exit, hoping she wouldn't be noticed

"Don't mind if ah do," Jamal said saucily, plucking one controller off the ground and unceremoniously plopping the game into the system. He made himself comfortably on the nearest open couch, all but sprawling over the entire seating surface. He acquired tunnel vision shortly after, blocking out everyone else as he proceeded to get through the start of the game.

"Oi! Jamal! Stop bogarting the couch!" She laughed and edged over to the farthest corner, getting an irritated look from Captain Morgan as she relocated them. She kept her eyes on the game as it started but patted the couch next to her and spoke to Awen. "Sit down here. I haven't gotten a chance to get to know you yet. ...How long have you been here?"

Awen smiled a little bit and moved over to the couch with the other two, but instead of trying to sit on it and crowding everyone she sat on the floor and leaned against the couch between Jamal and Emerlyn. "Oh: Something like a week I think..." As she got this closer view of Emelyn she noticedthat she had also been changed. She had been too distracted, embarassed, before to actually notice. "OH! So you're already-" She cut herself off and glanced at Jamal. She wasn't sure if he knew already or not... by his composure.... Awen had guessed not. She cleared her throat a bit after the stumble. "Um... already used to the uuhh.. time zone switch eh?" She laughed a little nervously, such a lame cover up. "I'm still not too used to it, probably why we haven't seen eachother... uhh weird sleeping habits."

"s**t, der yous go usin' strange words again," Jamal quipped to Em in a friendly manner without removing his gaze from the TV. "Yous forgettin' a brotha don't speak that bullshit." He leaned forward as he blasted some poor soul into oblivion, his sprawling hardly contained still to his side of the couch though he did give Em more room. The man's brow quirked at Awen's slightly faulted statement but didn't find anything unusual about it. It was true he had no idea what was really happening on the island...and it probably wouldn't be a good thing once he found out.

"Bogart means to take. It's not actually a regular word. It's... slang." She stroked Captain Morgan, letting the beast turn over in her lap to get his belly scratched, and obliging it gladly. "Besides, it won't kill you to get a little schooled." She laughed to let him know she was teasing. "And Awen," she said, prodding the girl gently in the back of the head to warrant her attention, "Yes, I have... gotten used to the time zones." She understood the near faux pas of the blue-haired individual, and appreciated that she didn't want to alert Jamal as of yet. Besides, if he didn't yet know anything was up by the fact that she was 25% hedgehog... well, he obviously didn't want to know.

Awen rubbed the back of her head where she had been poked and nodded a bit. "I see I see...." She was still looking forward at the screen though. "Oh oh Jamal to the left! Watch out!" She grinned knowing the level back and forth and he didn't look like he was gonna catch that one. She was curious though, she couldn't tell what Emelyn was going to be. She liked the double talk and decided to continue. "So emelyn, random question, what's your favourite animal?" She hoped the other girl would get the meaning well enough. She didn't mean to intrude or anything she was just curious about the people on hte island. Also taking in tallies for her "is moreau evil' poll...

Emelyn looked nervously away from the two speaking before she answered Awen's question, so as to hide the appearance of her nose. "Er... its... a hedgehog, actually." She coughed, and then buried her fingers in Captain Morgan's fur. "I see... sweetness, and kindness in him," she answered Jamal, still looking away. "Animals are soft and accepting in a way that people can't be. ...Haven't you ever felt like you had to fight to be understood, to just.. survive?" She stroked the purring cat. "Animals... just accept you. You never have to fight. Something in that is very appealing," she said softly, placing a single kiss between the orange cat's ears.

Awen nodded a little bit at Jamal. "I think Boxers...or pitbulls... I can't remember which... were outlawed by a bylaw in my town." She shrugged a little bit. "They had caused a lot of problems appearently though I never really noticed anything....." She tilted her head back to rest against the couch to look up at Emelyn. She smiled a little awkwardly from the possition but she meant it to be a nice smile. It just looked funny upside down. "Hedgehogs are cute you know." She looked back to the screen and was silent a bit during the fighting to survive bit. She always fell silent when Lauren said something like that too... She grew up in a rich family, though her family part might have been cut short when she was seven she was still rich enough to be taken well care of. She didn't really get into those convorsations because she knew nothing of them really. "Behind you Jamal." She said in a duller tone than before.

"I ain't got no use fer an animal unless it can ******** a brotha up that tryin' to steal my s**t." Jamal said this very matter-of-factly as he blasted the head off some sort of zombie-looking thing. That was a moot point, however. For all the smack he talked, he seemed to be getting his a**-handed to him. "I ain't keepin' no animal that ain't workin' fer it's meals...and that thing look like it ain't much for workin. Unless yous skerd of a mouse, that is." He chuckled at his own wit, but quickly his good mood soured as he was effectively wiped out by the baddie that Awen had pointed out second ago. He grumbled and tapped the blue-haired girl's shoulde and offered her the controller. "Lets see how good you be," he challenged, giving her a sharp nod to accompany it.

"Well," Emelyn said, choosing her words carefully, "I can understand wanting to surround yourself only in things that are useful to you. ...But to me, Captain Morgan... that's his name," she explained, "is useful to me. He wants to be taken care of, wants someone to love him, and I feel needed because of that. So he fulfills... his purpose." She didn't want to have to make him understand- because sh knew that his view on animals would change soon enough. ...At least, for his own sake, she hoped so.

Awen grinned. "Watch and learn n00b." Once she took on that controller the game changed around. She had played the game so much every enemy was mastered in moments. Every puzzle solved quickly as possible She laughed. "You tear this game up huh?" She rolled her eyes a little bit and her fire seemed to be ignited. She was totally showing the guy up. After all it was her game and she had had mroe time to practice... Not the point. When Awen got onto video games she totally got vicious. The sweet girl she seemed to be evaporated and she became a beast, at least by comparison. She was worst when she playes Soul Calibur 2.... She nodded back to Emelyn a bit. "And she has a point. Comfort is in and of itself a purpose man."

"Cats is pretty damn pointless to me," Jamal said with a shrug, making himself comfy again, which included more sprawling, which he did with a completely innocent expression though he looked at Em out of the corner of his eye. It was then again he noted how different she was, though he couldn't put his finger on it. All this talk about animals...he almost swore he could see a nose pad on Em instead of just a dark spot...no, that was silly. Some people just had features that made them look like animals. Hell, one president's picture he'd seen had been compared to a chimpanzee...he decided to drop the topic, even if it was a one-sided mental conversation. Back to the topic at hand, which was basically that he was getting shown up pretty badly by a woman. He decided to play it nonchalant though and smiled brightly, rolling his eyes in jest. "Naw, yous just doin' so good cause I ain't wanna make you look back....Dat 'n a brotha gonna admit to bein' rusty."

Emelyn brushed a stray quill behind her ear- damn, she thought to herself, I'm going to have to quit doing that- just buckle down and get used to it. She was starting to feel a little... strange, what with the end of the animal conversation, that had so much subtext it almost reeked of double meaning. She found herself yawning, and Captain Morgan signalled her leave by jumping off her lap and running out the door. She watched him go with a sleepy expression. "I guess that's my cue. It was nice to meet you, Awen, and I'll see you soon neighbor. I've got to follow the beast." She tapped Awen on the shoulder. "Kick his a**, girl." She winked at Jamal and followed after the animal. "See you." And then she was gone.

She looked after Emelyn and grinned a bit. "You know I will!" She sighed a little bit and looked over her shoulder to Jamal. "Whatever you say man, but you still got owned by a girl." She got up and moved over to the Cube and shut the game off, having sufficiantly proved her point. Wrapping the controller and putting it with the others neatly. She turned and moved back to sit before the couhc and look up at Jamal "So I take it you're new here too huh?"

He chuckled, giving her an indulgent grin as she put the gaming materials away, making room on the couch though he still let his arms dangle off the sides, remaining slouched. "Yeah...just got herr a few days ago...figgured I best get out and see what I gots myself into. When you get herr?"

She decided, since he made room and all, to hop onto the couch to get mroe comfortable, cranking her neck up to look at him wasn't really a nice experience. She was kind of jealous of Jamal though He'd been there a few days and he didn't know, where as Awen learned within hours of getting there. She wondered which one was worse...? Maybe it was better to know right away.... "Oh.. something like a week or so ago." She was actually debating telling him or not.

"Dat's coo'....see anythin' important? Brotha's gotta know that sorta stuff. 'Bout the only things I seen been the food place 'n this place." He rubbed his face idly, also remembering he needed to shower. His quick game of basketball made him feel gross.

She rolled her shoulders a little bit. "I haven't much gone to... Well I've seen a lot of the jungle, the town, some of the..beach and a little by the river. Nothing real..." She sighed a little bit. Should she...? "Listen... Jamal..." She shifted a little but. "Er actually... Hey. Why'd you come here anyway?" She was trying to poke more information to stall for time. She was terrible at keeping secrets... because she had absolutely no poker face.

Jamal lifted a brow and instinctively stiffened, his jaw clenching uneasily. "Uh..." he mumbled, trying to fish around for a good lie. He was definately not into explaining that he'd basically murdered someone and ran off to hide on the island for safety. "Hidin' from cops...bad drug deals n's**t like dat." It wasn't a complete lie, per say... "Dat n' I ain't one to object to nice weather n' lovely ladies."

She half smiled ath the "lovely ladies" comment, though she was sure no matter who she was he would have said that anyway. She had gotten the information she had wanted from him, he really had no idea what the island was about. "So... no one told you what this place was about before you got here? When you got here?" Her stomach knotted as though she were facing down the ocean. She looked at the man with sad purple eyes. She didn't want to tell him... but... maybe she had to.

He grew suspicious now...Awen seemed way too serious, too sad even, to be chatting about something trivial. "I was just tol' I be allowed to hide out herr...they give me a place to live and ain't tell no cops where I be. Aubrey just said dat there be a lab out herr too..took me inna big buildin' thing and got me hooked up to some shot. Said it be better than gettin' some sickness yous guys got 'round herr. Ain't no one really tell me much."

She sighed heavily. Something in her had hoped that he knew but was just playing smug like he had when she showed him up earlier. She knew the hope was unfounded but... she had hoped. "Then I guess I have to be the one to tell you the truth...." She shifted again. "That shot you recieved..... wasn't for some sickness around here. Well, not for preventing a sickness anyway... You were injected with something that will soon change your life." She gave a little pause. She was sounding all foreboding.... "I don't know yet if it's a bad thing or not, some people are happy while others... well... not so much. But uh..." She tried to think of some example. "Have you noticed anything strange about Emelyn?"

Jamal hardly looked surprised, though still he remained suspicious. "s**t, what the hell that light blue bullshit gonna do to me that gonna change my life? It just be water-stuff," he said in a scoffing tone. "Ain't like I'mma sprout anotha' eye or somethin'." He shook his head lightly and fiddled with his chain jewelry, growing pensive over Awen's last question.: "She look a little funny, but I ain't bothered none by it. Peeps is all diff'rent."

"Very different on this island Jamal..." She bowed her head a little bit looking away from his eyes. "This islandis one big experiment. People from all walks of life are coaxed, kidnapped, or washed on shore here and Doctor Moreau uses us as experiments. That "light blue bullshit" is going to change you soon." She rolled her shoulders. "Emelyn is turning into a hedgehog.... Ian something with horns....Amaya some kind of reptile..." She paused and looked back to him. "You haven't met any of them I don't think but they're more obviously changed. It's a lot to take in... I thought I was crazy, or a victim of an initiation type thing to the island. ... but I wasn't." She sighed a little bit. "I'm sorry I had to be the one to tell you. But I couldn't let you go on not knowing, if you didn;t find out now it would be more painful later." Awen was fully prepared for Jamal to think she was crazy. Only a little while ago she would have thought the same. She just hoped he didn't get angry.... She waited for his reply letting it all sink in.

Despite what she might think her little admission might do to Jamal, he still looked like he didn't believe a word of it. He laughed even. "Aw come on. That's some ******** up s**t iffn I ever heard it. What sorta drugs you be hittin' and can I get some? Cause s**t....that's like da best trippin' story I's eva heard." He shook his head and drew a hand over his mouth as though trying to hide the large grin off amusement underneath his moustache. "Damn, girl. Yous almost got me all worked up. I was thinkin this place gonna blow up or somethin."

Her shoulders sank and she sat back on the arm of the couch facing him. She looked at him with a sort of sad intense look. "I've never done drugs in my life." She said plainly. "And I'm not joking... I didn't believe it either Jamal. But once you meet a few more islanders... you'll know I'm telling the truth." Tears were slowly welling up in her eyes so she looked away from him. It was hard to accept the truth. Not just in relation to Jamal, but in explaining it, the situation finally hit home for her. As much as she kenw it to be true before... she always had a doubt of maybe she was crazy. But she had enough confidence in her sanity to tell Jamal the straight up truth. She couldn't deny it either. "It doesn't matter if you don't believe me. You'll find out on your own soon enough."

Unforunately, Jamal was a hard believer of "Once I see it, I'll believe it." He pursed his lips and shrugged, his whole attitude clearly reflecting the fact he didn't believe a word of it. "Well hey, yous bring me a coupla these peeps and maybe I believe it then. Righ' now though, I ain't seein' it gonna happen." He was growing a bit uncomfortable now though, seeing her getting so worked up about it. He wasn't really a fan of letting your emotions go...and certainly seeing a stranger crying only made him feel more alienated than he had felt previously. "Look...it gettin' kinda late. Maybe we best call it a night..."

She quickly wiped her eyes dry and nodded getting up. "Yeah, hey sorry." She sniffed a little bit but she managed a smile. "Maybe I am just crazy, maybe it's just a side effect from that shot I got when I came to the island. I doubt it but.... Hey, it could happen." She shrugged a little bit. "Play the Cube when you want man, maybe if you practice I won't own you next time. I havea PS2 in my duplex too, if you wanna play come over or borrow it sometime, ya know just come over and we'll work something out." She shrugged a little bit and after a small breath seemed to go back to as if she had never said anything about the true nature of the island at all. "Duplex twenty one by the way." She moved towards the door before pausing and turning around. "Oh, and if you run into a girl with pink scrubs, long black hair and looks like she has animal print tattoos on her body.... Please don't hit on her and try to be nice.... She's kind of fragile..." After trailing off and finding nothing else to saw Awen smiled brightly and waved a bit "Well, goodnight! Sweet dreams." She then proceeded out the door, barely giving him time to respond.

"Sweet," he said enthusastically as he slithered off the couch and stood, stretching briefly with his arms over his head before adjusting his sagging jeans. "Duplex 7 where I be livin," he added. "Swing by wheneva...I ain't gonna mind none." He hardly noticed that she had left, his back turned to get his basketball. Once he turned around, she was gone. The black man rolled his eyes. s**t...that Awen girl had a frightening imagination. He shook his head and hummed under his breath as he headed out the door, both amused yet also somewhat bothered from the events of the night.
