(Yeah, they have elbows)
Makki stood, a little weary, at the edge of the water, looking down into it's shallows. She'd never fished before. She hadn't even thought about it. She was suddenly afraid. What if I can't do it? Being alone all the time, Makki had to do everything to survive. She could hunt and forage, and almost nothing scared her.
Nothing accept this.
"So what do we do?" She swallowed her nerves, and decided she would do it, and be good at it.

((Awesome 8D Also, I've never fished before so I'm making this info up.))
Chance waded into the river, staying between the edge and the middle. The water there was shallow enough for him and was tall enough for the fish to come by often, as well. He looked back and was surprised to see Makki hadn't followed him in like she usually did. He decided she was just waiting for him to show her first and he flushed. What if he messed up and emabarassed himself? Well... it was too late to back out now. "Um, first you stand still for a while so that the fish won't uh, you know, dart away." he said, trying to keep his paws stiff. He had a hard time doing that in cold water since his legs were always tembling. Thankfully, the sun was out and the water was shallow enough to warm quicky. "Then," he said, as a few tentative fishes started darting past. "you use the current to your advantage. Have it push you to the fish." he was too concentrated on the fish to be nervous and soon after, he pounced, catching one in his paws. He quickly grabbed it wish his jaws, making sure to hold his breath, and shook his head wildly until it stopped flopping. He waded back to the bank and dropped it on the ground. "Like that." he said.

Makki watched intently, taking note of everything he did. When he had tossed the fish carcass to shore, she took a tentative step into the water. This was new. New and a little unnerving. When she was in the water, just about to her elbows, she looked to Chance. "Like this?" She whispered, keeping still. She could see the fish darting away from her limbs. She never realized they were so fast. The glittering scales and shimmer off the water was almost dizzying. Fish. Concentrate on the fish. She told herself.

"That's right." he said, just as softly. He nosed his own fish around and decided it was rude to eat without her. Rolling it to the side for now, he sat on the edge and watched her, ready to offer tips and encouragements. He thought she was doing a good job. The first time he had tried, he ran away, claiming the fish were monsters. It wasn't his fault one just happened to have an extremely large plant stuck to it.... "Don't forget to hold your breath." he warned, realizing that he had forgotten to tell her before.

Her eyes darted to him then back to the water so he would know she heard him. There. There was the perfect fish. Makki held her breath as it came close. Closer.
SPLASH!
Makki came up with a mouthful of pebbles and silt. She half gagged as the muddy stuff ran out of her mouth. The fish long gone now. She stuck her face in the water to get the muck off her tongue. She then turned her drippy face towards Chance. "What did I do wrong?"

Chance's ears and body leaned forward when he noticed her looking at a specific fish. He was staring so intently that her sudden movement startled him and his fur bristled instinctively. He smoothed out his fur as she washed the muck off and looked back to her. "You didn't do anything wrong." he said. "I think you're just not used to the water yet. You were kind of slower than usual." he mumbled the last part. "Maybe you can try keeping your muzzle closer to the surface?" he offered.

She nodded. "Alright... I'll try that..." She looked back to the water, her nose close to the water.
She tried three more times, unsuccessfully. Her tail drooped and she was getting discouraged, about to say something, when suddenly.
"YIPE!" She squealed, jumping out of the water, running up the shore. On her tail was a shimmery silver-pink fish, flipping around while she ran, trying to shake it loose. Finally, the fish lost it's grip on her tail. Makki looked at it flopping on the bank before she pounded on it.

Chance watched her attempts, worried that maybe he wasn't being a good teacher. It looked like she was doing things right. It was just that the fish seemed to be repelled from her by an unseen force as they darted away just barely in time. That didn't seem to be the case with one fish, however, as it darted unnaturally close to her. It glimmered with a pinkish shade and he was surprised to see it latch itself onto Makki's tail. He ran after her, trying to bite it off, but as before, she was too fast for him and she had finished it off by the time he got there. "Nice." he said, eyeing her fish, and then his own that was still by the bank. "Congrats on your first fish." he said, wagging his tail.

She looked up at him with her still muddy face. "I don't think I like fishing much." She admitted. She wasn't going to give up, oh no, but that was enough trying for today. She looked at the fish. "You better be tasty, for all the trouble yo caused me." She said to the dead fish. "Shall we eat?"

Chance chuckled. He could see why she didn't like it. "Don't worry, it'll get easier after some practice." he told her. "Sure." he replied, going back to drag his own fish closer to her before laying down to nibble on it. It had a different taste than meat, that was sure. And all of the many types that came through the river tasted different. This one was kind of salty.... He went back to drink some water from the river, returning with a dripping muzzle. He shot her fish a curious glance. "Can I try some?" he asked, noticing he'd never caught that type of fish before.

She was licking the fish when he asked. Makki looked up, mid lick- her tongue still flat to the scales. "Ah... geff o." She sat up a little. "What's wrong with your fish?" She tilted her head side to side a little. Having never had fish before, she didn't know that they tasted different. Even though she herself looked quite soggy, she couldn't help but chuckle at Chance's wet face.

((Lawl, my dog does that. She licks me and I stare at her and after a few seconds, she stares back with her tounge still on my arm xD))
"Thanks." he said, wagging his tail and taking a quick bite of her fish. He licked his muzzle, getting at the last scraps. Hers was good, that was sure. "Oh, nothing's wrong with my fish. They just taste different is all and I don't think I've ever tried yours. It's good, by the way." he said. Chance laughed back at her when she did, realizing how silly they must both look with dripping muzzles, giving them a soggy beard look. His ears flickered and he shook his head at a specific angle to splash her with the small droplets that flew off his fur.

(Mine used to do that too xd )
"They do? Can I taste yours then?" She asked, slowly getting up. She flicked her tail at him, splashing him back with her own water droplets. "Do you think I'll ever be good at fishing? If I try really hard? Because if I'm an alpha, I have to know how to do anything, right?"
(She's so focused)

((My dog does that to my mom's purse bag, too xD She looks so guilty when we're just watching her, lawl.))
"Sure." he said, laughing when the water flopped against his sides. He scooted back a bit so she would have some room. "Of course. Practice makes perfect, after all." he said encouragingly. "But... no one's perfect... so... practice... might be... pointless?" he pondered out loud. "I thought being an alpha meant you were strong and brave." he blinked. "And wise." he added. He thought of his parents. They seemed like all of those things, but they were betas. "Being an alpha is hard. Fishing might help." he decided to stick with that.

"I'll learn everything." She replied. "So I'm wise. And I'll practice and train, so I'm strong." She walked to his fish and lowered her head, taking a nibble. It was pretty good, she had to admit. "And I'm not afraid of anything."
yes I am.
She pushed the nagging thought out of her mind.
No, I'm not!
