What's so bad about our highways? blaugh

Hmm, I remember driving on I-70 through Missouri.

Ever read the Never Ending Story?

Do you know what "The Nothing" is?

Cause that's what's on your highways.

2 lane highways, vast open plains with the "Hey! look! a tree!" level of terrain features.

One day I'm going to return there and put up a road sign that says "NEXT SIGN, 15 Miles" Just to have something for drivers to look at.

That Neuf is exactly right. There is NOTHING to look at on the interstate, highways, side roads, everything. I try to sleep through the whole trip if I possibly can.
Also, if you aren't on the interstate the roads can get a little rough.

Huh- I guess I never really noticed; it also depends on where you're driving. For example, on my way to someplace in Hickville I saw an ex-Elvis museum turned into a baptistry. Now Elvis is on a cross. xp

My general area is pretty, though. ^^

On a really random note, one of my college essays talks about cultural traditions and what perspective I would bring to that school. But, I'm having major writer's block, so any suggestions of something related to Judaism that I can talk about? Part of tradition is that I don't know what's unusual to talk about....

The Midrash leaps immediately to mind. It's the apocrypha of Judiasm. Apocrypha, translated from greek means "That which is hidden away." Not to say it's the great secret of Judaism, it's just not the commonly known things about Judaism. However the Midrash affects how we as Jews culturally think, act and feel about certain things. For example the Torah talks of Abraham rejecting the idolatry of Babylon, in the Midrash it explains Abraham smashing the idols with a hammer, being protected by the fires of Ba-al while his brother was consumed by them. A whole lot of good stuff that never made it to the Torah, which is why it's apocrypha and left in the Midrash.

PS : I saw a 900 foot Jesus in Tulsa Oklahoma.

In Eureka Springs we have Jesus of the Ozarks or some crap like that. It's probably about that large. I have a picture of it taken from the Crescent Hotel.

I saw a pic of that on Google

I dunno, looks like he's trying to block a kick or hold off a Balrog or... I really don't know.

Why is Christ always depicted with arms outstretched anyway.

(waits for the "Jesus saves, passes to Joshua, he takes it up the middle, passes to Isaiah, he shoots HE SCORES!" joke.)

I need to put a giant "FREE HUGS" sign around his neck. Dude, I'd def give Jesus a hug. I wonder if he was shomer negiyah....

I'd say he's depicted that way to symbolize crucifixion without all that gory business or just because he's Jesus and he's always opening his arms to all of mankind.
