To clear up another misconception, ramen is NOT japanese. It is CHINESE. Reference (for those who are interested/don't believe me): Kokugojiten entry from Goo.ne.jp Ramen is also known in Japan as "chuuka soba." chuuka hold the meaning of "chinese-style" (in reference to food).

voriathel Masaki_Kobashi Freakezette Morriganna Mind you, I hate the Bratz dolls anyways. I mean, what are we teaching our youth? To be skanky whores? *shakes head* Isn't that what we've always done? biggrin Gah! I hate how we are teaching our youth to be such hos and sluts. It's amazing that a lot of the Japanese population has not caught on to that trend... or are they, and I just don't know it? xp ~Masaki There are slutty people in every society. How sad... I know every society has their sluts, but LOOK AT US!!! (sorry for the all capitals) Not to be dissing my own country, because I'm not for that, but we really are teaching our youth to be sluts. It's not just kids picking up on it and liking it - we are actually PROMOTING it! I know I'm probably being a bit redundant here... sweatdrop ~Masaki

Our society doesn't want people to be happy with themselves. We're the country of excess. You have to have to be the most attractive, the most skinny, the biggest boobs, we haveto have the most guys chasing after us. We have to follow the trends or be cast out. And the same can go the oppisite. We have to be the weirdest the most "punk rock", the most "goth", the most shock value. Other countries don't have that. I'm not saying they're all happy with themselves, but atleast they're not always trying to out-do each other.

I don't know if our society doesn't want people to be happy with themselves, I would say advertisers don't want people to be happy with themselves unless they buy the right product. I don't think it's true that other countries don't put pressure on their young people, it just comes in different forms. Japan has a very strict and competative culture. Look at their schools, they put so much presure on teenagers, Japanese students have to test into highschool, and there aren't enough spaces so some people end up not making it. Then the way you're suppose to act, there are so many little rules that we a foreigners don't really have to worry about, but native people do. They aren't teaching their girls to be sex objects quite like we are, but there are pleanty of rules nevertheless.

We expect less, so we get less... as in, our education system does not put as much pressure on the teenagers, so what do we get? DROP-OUTS! DELINQUENTS! And it's not just the education system; it's our authority figures in general, I think. My mom said there's this whole thing where our government is saying, "We should 'understand' our youth, we should chew out any figure of authority whenever our kids get in trouble, we should give them everything they want." And guess what - it's all being thrown back in their faces! ~Masaki

And guess what - it's all being thrown back in their faces! Well, we can't place the blame squarely on the government, considering our government is (idealy) there to serve the will of the people who put them there, and over the years, parents are saying to schools "don't parent/discipline my kid, that's my job." which is all good until the parents themselves aren't parenting or diciplining their kids. The parent's of bullies and delinquents aren't usually super scrict with their kids, otherwise they would try to stiffle that behavior. Schools have to be careful if they try to raise their standards to much, because lord knows if precious little Jimmy tells his mommy that school is too hard (even if he's not really trying) then Jimmy mom will probably be at the next board meeting complaining.
