I'd even gotten over much of my aversion to spiders at that point, but this was a big spider. It took several tries, but I was eventually able to pick her up and give her her medicine. The problems in picking her up were mine, btw, and not hers- she was a very sweet spider. She even posed for a picture for me- she's a Costa Rican Zebra, which, as I understand it, is one of the more mellow breeds. Lucky for me, eh?^_~ Here's one of her pics:

I myself have a Tarantunla. She was recently forced upon me but I've grown to love her. I still have to do research on her and figure out what exactly she is. Poor thing has an injured leg though crying She was hurt by improper care two owners ago. I must take pictures of her soon...

My dog, Mandy, hunting squirrels or something in the snow. She's a beagle/German Shepard mix. Yeah, I know, strange breeding
i used to have a dog of the same breed when i was younger. Her name was Renie and she was about the same size but her coloring was a bit different and one ear stood up while the other stayed up. She was a sweetheart and i grew up with her from when i was born to about 8. We had to put her to sleep though.
We adopted Pookie though. (Well we got her as a 2 year old form the newpaper.) It was probably a good thing because when we got her her ribs were showing a bit.. Anyway she's a beautiful border collie/ black lab mix and is mean to people when she first meets them but can be a sweetheart when you get to know her.
anyway your animals are all beautiful. smile

Devin_Kruljac_Truessence I want to get a Tarantula but my Love has Arachnaphobia. sad I can vouch for this, Devin- tarantulas are a great subject to cure you of arachnaphobia, if anything will.^_~ Ritten- the tarantula in my picture came in for an injured leg, too.^_^ You see the leg that's right in front? There's a little dab of clearish white stuff on the side of her leg just below her knee. That's one of the medications that I had to apply to her each day- it's a cream which soothes exposed tissues. Poor thing was so stressed over her leg that she started shooting off the hairs on her abdomen until she went completely bald on her behind! That's one of their defense mechanisms- the hairs are very irritating, and when they get stressed they can actually shoot them off at things. Ideally it would be into a predator's nose, and then they'd go off sniffling and sneezing and forget about the tarantula.^_^ I don't know a whole lot about tarantulas, but our doctor told me that one of the most frightening things for a new tarantula owner is the spider's first molting. Tarantulas shed their skin, like several other kinds of critters with exoskeletons. First, they stop eating for a while before they shed, to make themselves smaller inside their exoskeleton and give themselves some room to maneuver around and break through the outer casing. When they're just about to molt, they roll over onto their backs and curl their legs up like a dead spider- and that's exactly what a lot of people think that they are. So if you see your spider curled up on her back one day, don't bury her yet- wait a few days, at least. And don't roll her over onto her belly- they can't breath unless they're on their backs when they're like that.^_^ After she emerges, her body will be very soft and she'll feel very vulnerable, so it's probably best not to handle her until she has a chance to harden up. That's about all that I know about tarantulas- except that they also like to dig, and shredded coconut hull makes a great bedding in their cages. Also, try not to leave crickets in her cage overnight if she doesn't eat them- take them out. Crickets which are left in a cage overnight will sometimes start chewing on toes and eyes while the pet is asleep- so this goes for reptiles which eat crickets too, actually. If you can't find all the crickets which you've put into the cage in the evening, then throw some dry cat or dog food, fruit, or cereal into the cage- and make sure they can get into (and out of) the water supply, so they'll be less tempted to go after spidy's toes.

This is a picture I took one day after a rain storm. There was a beautiful mist and fog over everything. I took many pictures, but this was the only one that really captured the mist itself. I have other pictures that have water droplets, and spider webs. Please keep in mind that I had to resize this, and much detail was lost. I used a Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL with a 18.0 - 55.0 mm Lens. Although it was dark out, I used an Av of 11 to capture that darkness, and an ISO of 400 to avoid graininess. The Tv was automatic, and set to 1/320. I think that provides most of the technical info. If I left anything out, let me know. I have never posted any specs before.

My family says I am obsessed with insects. In truth, I am obsessed with animals, and there are just more insects around. Bees and wasps fascinate me. I love the way the pollen sits on their hairs and dusts their bodies. I used to have a great fear of these little creatures, but now I touch them lightly, when they allow me to. This is a crop of a much larger picture. The flowers are in focus more than the wasp, and the insect was refusing to sit still as usual. I still consider it a relatively nice shot. I hope you all enjoy it. The setting and specs are similar to the picture above, though I took this picture about a week earlier while on a walk with my dog. It was overcast at the moment I took the picture, though it had been sunny most of the day. I was in shade. The Tv is 1/125, and set on automatic.

I personally promised her that I would not force her to get near any kind of spider of any species and would only do it out of her free will.

Most people just look at me really strange when I tell them that that's what she is. xd She was around 2 when we adopted her from the pound, and we think she'd been through some hard times before that. She shied away from your feet for the first few months/years like she had been kicked fairly often, and she still doesn't like brooms or most men. Except my Travis heart . She warmed up to him really quickly, which surprised my parents since she's usually really wary of strangers, especially male. xd She's probably around 13 years old now, so I don't know how much longer she'll be around, but she's in pretty good health, considering. Pookie sounds gorgeous though, do you have any pictures of her?
