Please excuse my accidental grumpy smilie! I forgot what board I was one.

: + X = really cute pursed lip smilie on another board I frequent. Anyway.

ZORRO IS A KICK a** UKE. I understand there's a ZORRO UKE ANTHOLOGY too. But, I will be DAMNED if I can find it. I've looked everywhere. I blame people who don't know how to tag. And the fact uke anthologies tend to come with odd names. (Viralfeti, anyone?)

Oh, I just saw my pun there. Heh.

I WANT A KAMINA UKE ANTHOLOGY SO BAD. Y I can't has moar, interwebs?

Ahem, anyway. I like to share. If there's something you want that you can't afford, I can try to get you digi copies. My good fortune should not be limited to me and such.

I would love you FOREVER if you could seriously get those omg.

ANYWAY, I obviously haven't been around in a while; school, among other things, has really been on my a**. My ecology class is finished! So I have Fridays off for the rest of the year smile

Meanwhile, I'm starting to generate more ideas toward the progression of Lucky Straights (working title lol) though I'm still having a lot of angst over trying to pick Steampunk, Cyberpunk or Desertpunk as my main sort of atmosphere. I'm wondering if I can get away with all three, really.

Well actually at this point, given the setting, Desertpunk is a must; there's no escaping that. I just have one character (Zealot) who is pretty much 80% Cyberpunk and my other two characters (Henri and Conor) who are like 80% Steampunk. I played with the idea of planets having different economies and technology, but I don't actually want to deal with the amount of government involved with that. I mean think about how complicated politics are on OUR planet; imagine if there were several to think about!

I know people say to narrow down, but personally, if you only concentrate one nation from one planet going to another or something, I'm going to feel, as the reader, that this is far too two dimensional and that the author didn't really think about it that much. That's the kind of girl I am. I want details and relationships that work.

So I've kind of settled on the idea that I want it to be on ONE planet; I've toyed with the idea of pirates and with the idea of some kind of super advanced culture, which, I realized, unless it was completely dysfunctional would give my characters no wiggle room. Movies like Minority Report where people have to ******** switch out their god damn eyeballs make being a fugitive suck way more than it should. I'm the kind of person who would rather we had to chase serial killers than have any sort of overarching, fascist oppressive government that can tack you down and make you disappear.

Okay now that I sound completely paranoid...

BACK ON SUBJECT. Because it IS desertpunk, and I'm not willing to juggle that one, I don't want this setting to be too futuristic. I don't want Mad Max either, in any way shape or form, which is what draws me to Steampunk (which also has the sexiest fashion.) But I did really want video games to be a big part of who Zealot is, and I wanted nanobots that heal you. The only problem with those is that if there's the technology to make nanobots, there's the technology to use them to track people. And you can't say that it wouldn't be utilized; come on! Pay attention.

Then there's always the possibility of nanobots being a LOST TECHNOLOGY OMG SPOOKY, which just seems hokey to me, but might be the only way I can finagle them in there. :/ But also, I actually wanted them to be a communication tool, and it would just be kind of silly for them to be "lost" if people like Zealot, a kid, and Francis, also a kid, both utilize nanobots as sort of a complete virtual reality. (Which I believe will someday be possible). Also! Lost technology implies that these nanos have been around for eons, perhaps, and I don't know if I'm the only one who read Prey by Michael Crichton (if you haven't you should!) BUT THAT DOES NOT JELL WITH ME. His fiction is far too plausible for me to get the idea of something as necessarily organic as Nanobots evolving out of my head.

So there I am; that's what I've been thinking about lately (and also for the past year or so. Progress is for elitists.)

Oh, that one goes up with my regular DJ shares. This weekend will probably be the music again though. Then the DJs. Then I forget for a month. And then it starts all over again! I am ALWAYS on the lookout for these things, you know.

You know, I had a problem very similar to the one you're having while I was outlining the doorstop. Sprawl and awesome verses compact and making sense. It's a complex thing to balance.

Think for a bit on what your story is ABOUT.

Use things which further those ends.

That said, I bet you could mix up every kind of -punk biggrin .

Where the hell have I been? Listening to the Donnas and RPing. I guess I've been doing homework too, but I've been doing more RP layouts in Photoshop than actual assignments. :/

Today I started stalking Pen Ward and Obama on Twitter, and I'm thinking about using it as another kind of writing journal. For you kids who actually make a lot of progress it might actually be really fun for you.

Pen is stupidly adorable. I think I love him. For all of you who don't know, he's a writer on Flapjack and he created Adventure Time, which Cartoon Network is now turning into a series!!!!!!! You have no idea how insanely happy I am about this.
PostPosted: Mon Oct 20, 2008 12:53 pm

Adventure Time and Flapjack are by the same person D:! I did not know that. Fascinating!

I never could get into Twitter, but it amuses me to no end how so many famous people have used it to make their lives public. WELCOME TO THE INTERNET. Now, what did you have for breakfast?

No! Pen only writes for Flapjack. It was created by an artist from the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, and Chowder was created by an artist from Spongebob. smile

Ohhhhhh. I see.

Hee. No wonder Chowder has grown on me. I LOVE Spongebob.

I'm going to miss Fosters once the last season ends. Bloo was like... my friend! *SNIFFLE*

HO'KAY.

So obviously I haven't been writing a lot. Not seriously, anyway, I'm ALWAYS writing, but lately it's been retarded stuff that I throw out, or it's for my RPG. (I just picked up a new character; I'm really excited.)

Anyway I sometimes follow the serials people post in the writing forums, especially if they're about zombies or something like that... Uhh *ADD time* anyway, the point is that I found this thread that I think it would be really cool for everybody in the guild to look into.

It's sort of a contest (contest? fun thing?) to see who can re-write the story of Beauty and the Beast in the most original and new way. I'm seriously thinking about going for it.

Shock of shocks, I finished my short story. Its about nine pages long; I didn't check the word count. I should really edit it still, but I'm too relieved that it's done.

Good God. Well, while I've been gone, I've written two chapters and two half chapters of linear one shots, if that makes any sense. I threw what I had of chapter 2 away and started over, because I'd tried to re-write it twice and started over completely, with a new plot device, because it just wasn't working the way it was going. At all.

My harddrive broke-- shockingly, I did a ton of work while it was down, but now that I've gotten a new one, I don't have word on my computer yet, or I'd tell you how many words and pages and stuff.

The real thing that dragged me back here was this: How do I get motivated?! I know it's not a question that anybody can answer but me, but it's just.... *sigh*

Oh, heavens, and on another note, I wrote another short story! This one is a character piece about one of my new characters in this awesome plot that my wifey and I thought up... I'm due to write another one for my other character, but I've already decided I want it to be about poker, and I don't even know how to play that s**t. I watched them play it last night, and it was confusing, but interesting.

Full Tilt Poker has these sometimes really amazing commercials that are like, monologues, and they're so well written! They make the game sound so appealing and poetic! I was impressed.

I'll post a couple links for anybody who might possibly be intersted :3

((This first commercial is an example of what I'd like to be able to express in this short story that I'm going to write. I don't know all of the terminology yet, so that's my next thing to study... I know about the flop and the turn and the river, but aside from typical things like "bluff" which everybody knows, I don't know much else.))

OH LOOK. ITS ME.

I haven't been writing, its true, but I'm on PROZAC NOW... and I feel better. I've started RPing again, and doing the things I used to love doing is easier. I'm looking for a job right now, and cooking a lot, but aside from RPing just to get some words out, I haven't really been writing much...

I was actually just talking about that with my therapist today, about my retardation with plot... and after telling him about all my characters, he was like, "Wouldn't it be great if you could just let them go and tell their own story?" and I was like, "Well yeah, I've tried, but Conor keeps selling Charlie into harems and everybody else just kind of wonders off. It doesn't work."

Aww, haha, my characters have a terrible habit of doing similar things. This novel I'm working on now is the only one where they don't wander off. However, instead they sit in corners not really speaking to each other much. gonk

I think I'd rather they run off.

Good luck getting back into writing, though! I know it can be tough after a break, but I'm sure you'll manage. :3
