in elementary i use to watch the 6th graders at school assemblies that were in band and i was always facinated by the percussion section. so i know for a long time that i wanted to be a percussionist so when 5th grade came along and band was a mandatory class, i was more than happy to try out for percussion. ever since then i've been in love with band, percussion instruments, and just making music.

Ever since this band came and played for us when I was in first grade, I wanted to be flute player. In fifth grade, I did a report on the entire history of the flute.( strangly, that made me love it more...) And finally in sixth grade I became a flute player. Even though marching band has been a real pain in the neck, stare ( and back, and heels, and any place I have a weird sunburn) I plan to stay in it because I have such a great time.

I didn't choose band. My dad signed me up for a keyboarding class in 6th grade for one of my electives in school, but then the class was full, so they put me in band instead. mrgreen i love it now :3

When I was younger, my mom told me how she had play flute in band in high school and how my grandmother has done the same. When she told me that, I was determined to follow their footsteps. But my parents said I wasn't allowed to start until 6th grade when I could be in band. They started me on the piano, and I HATED it. The piano is horrible because I had to learn through private lessons and my teacher was from Julliard and all we ever played was extremely boring music. I quit. Then middle school did come, my mom bought me a flute, and I was great at it and now, in 8th grade and intraining for Broward county All Coutn Concert band, still am.

I joined band because my mom had been in the band when she'd been in middle school, and because I wanted to try something different than piano. I chose flute because 1) that's what my mom had played, and 2) I could actually get a sound out of it. In my sophomore year, I joined marching band playing mallet percussion which was a little easier because of my piano playing background.
If I wasn't in band, I would not be as outgoing as I am (which still isn't very), nor would I speak as much as I do (which still isn't much at all anyways). I probably would not be dating my boyfriend, and we probably would not have been friends in the first place.
If I hadn't picked flute, I probably would've chosen oboe. However, I love mallets, and I'd like to learn the auxiliary side of percussion before I graduate.

I joined because it seemed really interesting and cool to master an instrument. Plus it's an artistic way to express yourself. So many memories from so long ago....
