ChococatMew E-c-l-i-p-s-e_C-o-r-o-n-a And then we'll hopefully end up with our own neglected dragon! We're like the three dragonateers, lol Yes! We are the three minus 1 dragonateers! EXACTLY! I got another egg, but I won't experiment with it. Simply because it was bred and the parent's owner might decide to post it somewhere.

Whoever said the neglected/sicks are the zombies is wrong. There's a major difference between poorly-raised and so-dead-it-started-moving-again.
The only research I can contribute to the thread at this time is that sicks do not result from simply hatching/maturing while sick from an overfeeding ratio. I experimented with a pink egg once, and after I pushed her far past the ratio that would normally kill a dragon (40:1 ratio of V:UV, at one point she had over 9600 views with 240 unique views and about 40 clicks), she survived it and grew up pink. She's still on my scroll too.
In my experience, eggs/hatchlings typically switch breed as they come dangerously close to death... you may be on to something.

We were thinking that it was either all views and almost no clicks (a trend I noticed with all the sicks I've seen) or near death situation and a boom of views right before it dies to save it.

Maybe I'll just keep an egg at zero, watching it closely on it's last day. Then if it becomes sick... POW! Post it a million times in a million places. If it dies, I get a new egg and try something else.

For the "it has to be sick first" theorists-
I remember when I got my first eggs I refreshed the page over 1000 times in order to try to make them hatch, and all they got was softshell. I don't know if that will work anymore with the new view limits, but it was a good way to make them sick.
