I'm a freshman this year, and I've been told so many times that I'm the best one.Actually,we only have about 2 bad freshmen. What's bad is the sophomores in our section.Every single one of them thinks that they're the section leader and order us around and threaten laps(even though they can't really make us run)all.the.time.I know that they're uppeclassmen to me and I respect that, but they go way overboard with it!!

I'm a frehsman, and try, sometimes miserably, not to annoy anybody. However, that is not going well in my section.
So there are four seniors and two frehsman in the clarinet section. Me and another boy I never met before band camp are the freshmen. He and one of the seniors are ineligible, so I am left with the blunt of "Get this right or we will shun you." sort of thing. He doesn't march and paly well at all, and the senior just tends to get out of step. So my SL and the other two seniors, drill instructers, are like 'Hey, we only have one person to get mad at if something goes wrong. lets blame her for everything!' And the other freshman is getting in on it too. I know this sounds like i might be wrong, but I don't think so. I have gotten way better at marching and palying, my bD even said so. Well, yesterday he gave us 15 minutes for quick sectionals on one part of our song and included ineligibles. Well, the section got mad because I have memorization problems that are definately getting better but it take sme longer then most, and got mad because the other freshie couldn't mark time corrctly. So, SL made us count while they played. I almost lost my voice and started coughing while his counting was almost unheard. When we were walking back, he said "You need to count louder." Hello! Earth to frashman! I was choking and couldn't hear you. Then, afterwords my SL said "You need to know when moves end and start." She pissed the whole section off like that. she said that to everyone. Guess who was wrong? Her! She kept marchng twice during our runthrough when we had pauses. I didn't say anything but okay because i do not want to get on anyone's bad side. Our SLs are annoying more then the clarient freshmen who scares me. He stabbed like 10 people with pencils and has gotten into numerous fights! Scary!

Anyway, I'm done. I know most of that had nothing to do with freshman, except for those parts about him thinking he knew everything. Some of our other freshmen are okay, but a couple are snotty.

ok, so i know this may be weird to post in this cause i am a freshman, but there is one kid in my grade that is a total a** and on the first day of band camp he yelled at a senior to take a stand back to the band room that he had to carry to the room we were in, of course later that day the kid got yelled at real bad but he is still a complete a**

Besides a few people, my entire section drives me nuts! (also this is the flute section, which explains some things) some of the freshman are whiney, I don't remember if we any sophomores, the juniors drive me crazy because one of them has to be right or she throws a tantrum and the other is our section leader and she does diddle squat, and there's one that has a huge attitude problem and threatens people. One of my fellow seniors didn't show up to a practise and was across the street in the park watching us! My friend and the girl who has to be right, have 'I'm right you're wrong' fights on the field and the section leader doesn't do anything.(this also happens with a couple people in the section)Then the section leader got chosen over my friend because she's more likeable than my friend, so the flute section didn't really get anything done. I love marching band, but I'm glad this is my last year of high school. (sorry for the rant)

OH GOD I know what you mean. The freshman this year are full of it.
-They move at attention
-They talk while the director is giving instructions
-They're telling upper-classmen what to do
-THERE A BUNCH OF BRATS

now there are some that do work hard and deserve to be in band but .. if I was the director I would kick the others out in a heartbeat.

It's mostly the damn flutes. I'm a flute but not your stereotypical prissy girly girly flute. I'm self-disciplined and respectful. At Band Camp the little freshman would tell me to "watch my flute angle" ... 'scuse me? You JUST started. I've been in this longer than you so don't you dare tell me what to do. I work out and keep my self in shape for band. I practice my music, practice holding my flute up for at least 30 minutes a day, I run through the show in my head at night before I go to bed and you do what? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. You guys are the worst in the ENTIRE F*CKING BAND! And your correcting ME? Uh uh. That's not right.

Where's the respect these days? It's sad.

Hahah. I haven't been that angry in a while. But I'm glad I got it off my chest.

Eccentric Chica
.
♦ We call "That Freshman" Sha-nay-nay in front of her so we can talk about her... in front of her. She STILL has not figured it out.

Ha! There's somebody that we mock in our band too and we named her Shanaynay xD That's awesome.

I'm a freshman, and there are 11 other saxes in my section. 7 of us are freshmen, 1 is an inexperienced senior, 2 sophomores, and 2 juniors. The two juniors are first and second and I'm third. I've also been told I'm one of the better freshman marchers this year. ^^

The other freshmen in my section aren't BAD per say, but they certainly do try do act a little better than they really are. It got to a point where our BD told everyone that only the drum majors, himself and his assistant (Who's also a BD) could correct people on where and how they march. I just thought, 'Daaang. I'm glad I never did any of that stuff. xD'

Upperclassmen love me because I'm quiet and listen to instructions and try my hardest even though it may be boiling hot or freezing cold outside. I pride myself on that rep. ^^;;

All of the freshmen this year (including me) were pretty good from my freshman eyes. My two friends had already put sibling through Marching Band, so they were pretty well known (actually, all of the 27 people in the band knew them eek ). The only bad kid was someone I call Chuck, but he's always annoying. He even tried to correct the Drum Major and the band director.

I cant imagine i was too annoying when i was a freshman. i didnt pretend to know anything...mainly because i really didnt know much at all, or atleast wasnt to confident in it.
But i know what your saying.
Theres this freshman girl. Whose so freakin annoying in our band. Shes a flute player and she talks CONSTANTLY and says like every other word. once shes done giving a huge spiel on what were doing "wrong" she smiles like shes all proud of herself that she "figured it out first" when in reality she SUCKS. shes such a miserable failure. So my section stole her drill book on the day it was due. Kinda bitchy, yes but SHE HAD IT COMING!!

Phantom of the Forum
..our freshmen wouldnt' be so bad if they would STOP TALKING AT ATTENTION.

And my section IS freshmen aside from me and one other sophomore.
I can't control them, they're ALL guys wtf. >.>

I SO KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN! our freshman REFUSE to shut their mouths for the 10 seconds it takes to be at attention. We have had to stand at attention for minutes at a time because they are incapable of being silent. IT DRIVES ME NUTS! and then they have the nerve to laugh about it afterweards! NOBODY THINKS ITS FUNNY! scream scream scream scream scream

hey it's not our freshies that are the problem it's the seniors when they get next to a freshman.
PostPosted: Mon May 25, 2009 4:07 pm

Well I was in terms of grade level a freshman but I've been marching parade since 7th grade and marching field shows since 8th grade so I did know more than most freshmen and sophomores this season so there probably were some times when I was like that but certainly not to my section leader or someone who I know could play something right. And even when I did/do give out criticism it's in a nice way so that the person doesn't get mad at me (unless they believe that they know everything already, which they probably don't). There was this one freshman that really got on my nerves and thought he knew everything just because he's had three brothers in band before him when in all actuality he didn't know that much about marching. And I think if you do get told something by someone that you believe is below you or just isn't aware of your abilities then just ignore them if you believe that you will blow up and get angry or just go along with it and act like you are taking their advice. I believe that is the mature route to go down. One example is this year when one of the juniors was trying to correct my marching when I was actually doing fine but I just went on with it and took it in stride until a drill-down and I came in second place behind a senior then she never opened her mouth to me about my marching or anything ever again. And usually comments like that stem from jealousy so I wouldn't worry about those freshmen or even upperclassmen that have to stoop to that level to make themselves feel like a good play when in fact they aren't.

none of the freshman last year were like that, but i can tell this one girl is probably going to be like that (well have to wait till band camp to really see) but at the freshman camps (when we teach them how to march) kirby and i (kirby's a sophmore and im a jr [or going to be]) pulled the 5 (insain amount of flutes! that more than doubles our section! ne ways) we were telling them how to hold their flutes right (which NONE of them were doing. their elbows were touching their sides and their flute angles at horns up were beyond atroshus!) and, while we were explaining this, this one person (who acted totaly cockey when we were marching the block.... you could tell that she thought she new exactly how to do it) was looking away, her arms crossed with that bored are-you-done-now-i-have-better-things-to-do look on her face... it pissed me off.... i just hope she dosnt act like that during band camp, or our sec. leader is going to like eat her...
