This moring there was fog
A damp opalescent mist

"NO no, this is fine! Really!" Anna did her best to keep him from giving her more money. Usually she didn't accept it anyway, and this much was probably more then she could handle. "With this, I can probably keep us from starving to the point of pain. No, this'll be fine. I think we can live off of this for several years. At least three..." Anna continued mumbling, but what she was saying was no longer important. When she was done, she turned back to Haru. "The girls will be happy to eat something other than dried rice for once. I can't ask for anything more than this."

Pressing up against the glass
Like a mouth.

Haru paused, and turned around to face Anna. He began thinking again. He really was thinking a lot today... Haru threw that same thought to the side and kept on thinking. He kept thinking and thinking until he hit his bottom hand with his fist.
"Right. Let's move them to the palace. Unless, of course, you wouldn't want to..."

She's so lucky
She's a star

Anna blinked, then sighed. "It would probably be the best thing for them. Yes. But, 26 of them? They don't know how to work yet, most of them. What would they do?"

But if I'm so lucky
Why do these tears come at night?

Haru began thinking again, and began thinking hard. One could almost smell smoke. Haru began pacing wondering what could the girls do? The older ones could obviously be added to the cleaning staff... Haru stopped and looked to Anna.
"Wait here a moment..."
Haru quickly left his room and navigated the maze that was the palace until he found a middle-aged maid. He quickly got her attention and was relieved when she didn't bow or curtsy.
"Christine? You have a daughter, correct?"
"Yes. She's 5."
"And... what does she do, exactly?"
"Nothing really. She occasionally helps, but mainly she just goes out and play. Why?"
"I was thinking of hiring more maids. Quite a few, actually, and there are quite a few, uh, younger girls."
"Ah. That wouldn't be a problem. The ones too young to work could play with my daughter while the rest could find good jobs around the palace. It's about time someone hired more help."
"Wonderful. Well, I must be going..."
Haru left, leaving Christine to keep working. He went back to his room, and was relieved that no guards had come by.
"Well, I've spoken to some of the workers here, and they've assured me that they could just stay here. We actually house a few families here in the palace. And we still need more help..."
Haru sighed, shaking his head.

Little girls often dream
But some dreams

[[Oh, by the way, we need you to post in 'divided we fall'.]]

Anna stood and blinked before making any effort to explain the situation to herself. After a bit of silence, she managed to mumble, "Thank you. Should I get them, then?"

And not for little girls.

((looks like the fighter is boarding his girl and all her sisters in the palace xp I know my character is going to have something to say about it))

Turning the corner, his stave tapping a gentle rhythm against the floor. "Haru! What the hell is going on? I heard from one of the maids that you've been to the village recently and are now talking to the maids about hiring a significant number of maids." Hiro stopped about a yard from Haru. "You could have at least waited for the rest of us and talked to the head maid before hiring them all." From his body language and tone it was clear he was mildly annoyed with his brother.

On the other hand a hint of a smile was glimmering through the stern gaze. It was rare that his brother went out of his way to help those who weren't fighters. If what his brother's escort had reported was true, this simple village girl must have made quite the impression.

Haru's head sunk when he heard Hiro's voice. Great, now he was involved. Haru leaned his head back and spoke loud enough for Hiro to hear.
"Whatever, mother. They need a place to stay, so I got them a place to stay. Whoop-dee-do!"
Haru motioned Anna to wait as he went to talk to his brother. Haru stepped out of his room, and went to his brother. He made sure to close the door most of the way, so Anna wouldn't be visible.
"So, mother, what would you prefer me to do now?"

ighs were emitted from the young man's lips as he stared nose pressed against the window and teeth chattering from the cold. Maids scurried behind him searching for blankets and filling the bed warmers with hot coals that were just freshly stoked in the fire. A flame had licked onto one of the maid's gowns and they had screeched and ran out the wooden door and down the corridor to the east wing where there would be surely the kitchens and somebody with an ice cold bucket of water. Shivering violently beneath the five layers of blankets which soon became six as the maids continued to find more woven fabric scattered around the room, he turned his head his jet black mop of hair wiping his face and plastering itself to it where the sweat lay like a second coat of skin. Blowing up with furiousity the hair did not move and continued to lay there in an unhealthy fashion against his forehead. Grumbling he turned his gaze back to the window which overlooked the royal pond and garden, a place where many young servant maids liked to frolic and dance bare-footed among the many petals that scattered the ground.

[A] couple were prancing around and laughing from what he could tell their vibrant and young hair colors flouncing around them like their tattered dresses. Red, brown, and a rich copper all mingled together as they plopped on the ground their heads all very near the others. Another sigh and his vision was obstructed by the fog that had created a barrier on the class. Spitting on the pane and rubbing it away with his cuff on his blazer he gave a satisfactory 'Hmph' and continued to be miserable as he watched the others out on the snow. They were just little flecks, but he hated the sight of the stuff, it made him grow cold and reminded him of his undented heart and the way it beat slowly as if to only be warmed up by the sexual pleasures of a woman. "Martha..." He was calling to a maid that was readying a bath for him in his master bath connected to his room and summoned her to his vision. "Martha," He continued again tasting her name once more on his lips, "You're young...Go on a date with me." Stroking the apple of her cheek she beamed down at Haku as he continued to stroke her cheek and as he reached up to kiss her forehead. It was soft, but felt like all the other girls that he had ever met. Then he pushed her away by the shoulder and shrugged back into his empty shell of grumpiness.

uddenly he arose from his seat and muttered something about 'get lost'. The maids complied and bustled out the door with haste. They new better than to mess with Haku's Bad-a** temper. Letting the six layers of blanket fall to his feet he smiled and rolled his shoulders while cracking each one of his knuckles. New thoughts besides loneliness flowed through his mind and he was now determined to actually go capture a woman. A one night stand. That was easy enough right? Pick a fair enough maiden from the village and promise her riches and silks, then when he had her in his grasp he would pull her in and smirk as he kissed at the crown of her breasts, her shoulders and up her neck, the hollow of her throat, each lid on her decadent eyes, her nose, forehead and finally end up in a kiss where she would have to break apart to moan. She would be shedding off her clothes before Haku even had to undress her himself. Not that that was a hassle for him, but Haku liked the girls who tried hard. His brothers wouldn't bother him, for he had at least a reputation and was known as the 'lady killer' to them.

[N]ow skirting down the corridors himself in his gallant gait he looked over his shoulder to the open door that hwas his room atht was slowly diminishing from sight. Another sigh, one of his new favorite hobbies next to cooking romantic dinners and making a damsel a woman. Passing the kitchens he heard the maid that had caught half of her dress on fire and he couldn't help but pause and say, "Looks great Cindy...I like it when you have it 'half' off." With a wink he continued on as the aromas from the kitchen mingled with burnt cotton, honey and bread as he continued down the corridor. Bursting through the great doors was an excellent feeling, as if one could do it over and over again and never tire of it. However, with his mind on a mission that he must finish he decided to leave it, whereas if this was just a normal day he would do it at least five times before satisfied. A fruit nut is what he was called, or a sexy beast. He preffered the latter. Just as long as he could be called sweetie by every girl in the kingdom.

[H]is fine leather boots clicked against each individual cobblestone as if celebrating what he was about to achieve. Because those boots would soon be laying under his bed. A satisfactory grin plastered to his face he had to remember that he had to stay cool, serious, and...Unperturbed. Had he just said that to himself in his own mind? Wasn't that like, a word that his younger brother would use? Whatever. He hadn't noticed that he himself had stopped and he began to click against the cobblestones once more. Making his way out to the wrought iron gates that he had lead many a lady through he slipped unnoticed through one of the gates by sucking it in quite a deal. He wasn't fat, and didn't have a belly but he had only seen a contortionest do it before and that was when he was bringing her back and she still craved the need to show off. She was good though. Ahem. Now on the barren dirt laden path of the village Haku had his red eyes keen; on the lookout like a vulture for wounded prey.

[H]ands tied with his own fingers behind his back he whistled a merry tune as girls oggled him and as others said, 'I've been with him before!' Some of them had and some of them would never even have a ghost of a chance. But all the girls and women around them either fell for the bait and started to bombard the others with questions or completely dismissed the whole idea feeling that he was too good for them. In many cases he was. But Haku needed a maiden that was pretty, well built and most importantly alone. Crowds weren't really Haku's thing and he certainly wasn't going to make a profession of scrounging around them trying ot find a beautiful lass. Thank God he was a Prince, and the crowds separated for him as he walked by with his handsome looks, charm almost pouring off of him.

[W]alking was certainly tiring Haku and he had to keep himself sharp for the night ahead, so what was taking him so long to find her? Couldn't she just be a regular girl? No, Haku didn't really want to admit it, but this was his means of finding the girl that he would spend the rest of his life with. And then...Lost in thought Haku tripped on puddle of water that had frozen over slightly and the thin clear layer of ice broke and he slipped in the water and fell face first into the dirt and washings where a girl was laying on her back watching the snow as the others had been in the courtyard. "Ow...Pest..." His voice was full with loathing, and he spat on the ground as he slowly lifted himself from the ground. Looking down on his jacket he was covered in earth, and smelled of the musty dirt. More worried about his boots which were now covered in...What was that small? "Lemon Juice?" His voice was now critical and quizical all at once. Then he repeated his sentence, "Lemon - LEMON JUICE?!" Outraged he flung his hand into the water puddle in front of him. Unfortunately and testing his luck as usual it wasn't very deep and his hand struck the hardened earth below. Giving a yelp of pain and his Garnet eyes with the flame of fury glossing them over he roared, "Who is the cause of this mess in MY future Kingdom?" His eyes were slits and looking to the fullest up when his head was turned down and seeing through that thick jet black hair wasn't the easiest task either.

Kit had just taken a spill from yet another stubborn weed of doom and had given up, opting to lay on her back and stare at the snow and catch her breath back when there was a, for lack of a better phrase, disturbance in the force. She was a little confused and disoriented because she was stuck half in a daydream, but she was enough in reality to know that what had just happened was that someone had slipped in what was probably left over from the washer women earlier and had fallen down, and that he was now screaming like a bratty little child... Of course Kit's selective hearing chose that time for here to tune out of the world again, so she completely missed the comment about "MY future Kingdom", which was actually the most important thing he had said.

In a rare flash of temper Kit sat up and narrowed a glare on him, too caught up in the anger to notice what he was wearing or what he looked like. "What's the problem with lemon juice, huh?! It happens to smell very nice, thank you!" She snapped at him, a slight growl in the back of her throat. Of course, her little outburst wasn't about to finish that quickly. She shifted her position and pulled herself up onto her knees so she was sitting up completely. "What gives you the right to start screaming like a bratty child just because you took a little spill?!" She barked, gray eyes flashing brightly with her short lived, ill-placed, and greating misdirected fury.

Once she finished yelling the anger seemingly evaporated and Kit was left in her normal sweet tempermant, slightly dazed and a little shocked. It didn't take a genius for her to know that not only had she just yelled at someone who was of higher class than she was, but at someone who was a prince. "Oh no, I'm so sorry!" She gasped, both hands flying to her mouth as her eyes widened. She was dead, she was so dead. There was only one way to escape from this, and that was to be as nice as possiable in as short a time as possiable and hope he forgot all about being yelled at, and the place to start was to make sure that he was OK.

Quickly Kit shuffled forward and closer to Haku's side, hesitating a second before reaching out and putting a hand on the very angry looking man's head, gently looking for any lumps from the spill he had took. With her anger gone she was actually more worried about him than she was about getting into trouble for yelling, and if she thought about she would have realized she would never have acted that way normally. "I'm really sorry, I don't normally yell like that... Are you OK? You took a pretty nasty fall..." She turned her attention from her head to his hand and narrowed a worried but slightly amused look at it. "Maybe you wouldn't have hurt your hand if you didn't try to beat up a puddle?" She asked him, voice slightly sarcastic as she arched a brow at him.

Once again she realized she'd just uttered something that was neither appropriate nor very nice and probably wouldn't help her out very much. Silently she cursed to herself then sat back on her heels and ran a hand across her hair. "Sorry, again, very sorry..." She sighed and frowned, just wanted to curl up into a ball and die if possiable. "I just keep saying mean things, don't I?" Kit asked him sadly, sinking slightly down in an effort to disappear.

[W]allowing in deep self pity Haku looked as if on the verge of tears. Thank the heavens that it was snowing for the couple of snowflakes that landed on his face were not the tears that would certainly mar it. Hastily he wiped at the tears upon his cheeks and swept them off with the cuff of his jacket, muttering something about 'Damn weather.' With snow being his least favorite form of precipitation, and also realizing it was something that mother nature formed and couldn't be stopped Haku proceeded to examine his hand, the girl tutting about it. Still rather surprised at the way she had shown off with her yelling spree Haku was cautious at even showing it to her. Tilting his wrist so she could see as if something like that could be her fault he snickered. Pebbles were ground into his skin and looked red with the blood that was mixing with the left over water. The lemon juice stung in his wound and Haku grimaced in protest, teeth clenched together and him inhaling through his teeth making a hissing sound. "I feel I have the right to be a brat when I want to. But usually I'm not the bratty one around the castle. It's mostly the maids when they don't get their way." A laugh echoed around the two and he breathed in once more, a single swear word falling form his lips, "Damn."

[A]s the girl fumbled with his head he couldn't help but hold an annoyed look upon his face. She was really irking him and it wasn't making the whole situation any better. AND. Her statements weren't giving her even a chance in hell once the whole thing blew over either. Then lights went off vibrantly in his own head and he thought to himself a smirk starting from one corner of his mouth to the other, 'She's good with her hands. Maybe...' Cynnical thoughts raced through his head as he fought to think about what he would do to make the situation and advantage to himself. "I think I'll be okay. Hitting puddles is one of my hobbies. I think measurement is a horrible way to estimate something so I just like to see how deep it is myself." He shrugged and showed her the other wrist, now sitting criss cross in the puddle. Scars were long, thin, deep, and scabs were still healing upon his wrist and the outer side of his palms. Of course they were really from blacksmithing, but he wasn't about to tell her that.

[T]here didn't seem to be anybody else who had seen the incident happen, or heard the commotion from the both of them she Haku reached out to kiss the top of her hand smiling halfway through the kiss. "Your Highness is alright. But I must know how something such as you could have such a temper. So many suitors that you have to yell to turn them down now?" Laughing at his own joke his vast garnet eyes became softer throughout his laugh along with his stature. Then he continued his voice sultry and seductive, "I have to yell and boast just to get peoples' attention. It seems to have worked this round." Running a long-fingered hand through his jet black hair he sighed and looked up at the sky, a snowflake coming to perch on the top of his nose. Blinking and suddenly becoming cross eyed, Haku sniffed disdainfully as he watched the snowflake melt before his piercing gaze. Grinning broadly as if he had succeeded in a death match he pointed to his nose but quickly dropped it once again letting his gaze fall back to the maiden in front of him. He was embarrassed that he had acted so childlike and he flushed a color almost equal to his eyes around his nose and cheek bones.

[L]ooking to his boots the small possibility of not needing new ones vanished. The leather looked tarnished and yellowed, as if worn and aged but somehow the leather had held its perfect condition. Grumbling a bit he pulled the boot off and tossed it into the frost bitten grass next to him. "I hate the snow..." But his voice was barely audible as the wind whipped another flurry in front of his face, biting his nose and stinging his eyes. "Who knew that the weather could turn so violent? Please stop fussing over me. You're just like my maids and that is the last thing I want to make you." His last word was finished by a groan as he hefted himself off and offered the lady a hand along with his name, "Haku...Kokoro. I believe you've heard of me, yet I have not heard word of such a maiden. You've graced me with your looks, how about a name to match to a face?" Suddenly Haku became aware that the back of his pants were wet, and that he was in more of a puddle in metaphoric terms than ever. Here he was charming a lady that had been kicking and screaming yet still managing to look beautiful. Sure she was peasant, but that didn't matter. Wasn't she like all the others?

[G]arnet eyes falling upon her intense gray ones, Haku realized that this girl held a shy air behind her outgoing self. Or was it the other way around? Perhaps pulling weeds in the middle of the snow did that to you, turned you hard and irritable enough to yell at a passing Prince. 'I suppose it's possible...' And there he was thinking to himself again. Thank god for private state of mind. Wiping himself off the best he could he took a gander at the fine ladies own 'establishment'. She was well built, and surely a set of well defined curves lay awaiting the kill under that smock. Her feet were bare and a pair of shoes lay forgotten next to the flower beds under the sills of the wooden house. Her skin was pale, yet in a pleasant way. It was tan enough to say I work for a living yet soft enough to pass as the color of a young ripened peach. Her face was crowned with a sarcastic yet pitying expression at the moment making it look slightly confused. Yet those eyes was the odd piece to the puzzle. Gray? He hadn't ever seen or made love to a girl with gray eyes. It was mostly the different shades of green, blue, yellow, brown, purple, and even red.

There were so many thoughts and emotions whirling through Kit's head that she didn't quite have the time to devote a moment to each of them and consider what they were, but there were two that were definately strong enough she couldn't ignore them: amusement and embarrassment. Mostly she was amused at the odd things he had said, at least the ones at first, and if the giggle hadn't been stopped dead when he'd kissed the top of her hand she probably would've embarrassed herself further. He was certianly an intresting one, measuring puddles with his fists and glaring at snowflakes, but that was more or less a case of the pot calling the kettle black. Besides, at least she wasn't mad anymore.

She couldn't quite stop herself from blushing, but she hoped he thought it was from the cold. Kit wasn't really used to people talking to her like that, she'd only ever had compliments from her mother when she used to claim that "Caitlin, you'll be quite the heart-breaker", but that was so long ago now that the last thing she could remember anyone saying nice about her was "Hey you! I like the way you scrub my floors!" Her father wasn't the kind of man to compliment her, and her brother and his wife were too caught up in their own little world to devote time to her at all. Still, it was kind of nice to have someone say nice things to her, nice in a strange way that made her want to shrink into her shoes and hide.

Calling him strange would probably be an insult, but if did she would mean it as a compliment. Between the look on his face at times and the things that he was saying, Kit was pretty sure she had enough material to keep her entertained for a while now. When you had nothing better to do with your spare time, you tended to dwell on memories and daydreams, and Haku wasn't like the other people she had met so far in her life; he was a lot more entertaining to watch. Sure, she was flustered and confused about the whole thing, but it was awfully hard to stop herself from cracking a smile.

Kit wanted to protest that he shouldn't be moving quite yet after falling like that when he stood up, but she couldn't quite manage to find any words that could adequately get the point across without insulting him; she had the oddest feeling that if she opened her mouth something sarcastic was going to come sliding out again. Of course he was one of the princes, she had known that when she'd calmed down, but to have the name of Haku supplied to him made her want to frown. There wasn't a girl she hadn't met so far who didn't know some bit of gossip about him, and even if she never stooped so low as the comment on the gossip or try to get in on it, Kit had the strangest habit of becoming suddenly more focused on the world just before someone started whispering rumors.

She wanted to curse her luck, but at the same time she was actually a little glad about the whole thing. It seemed like just her luck that she would run into the prince who was known most widely for things that most princes didn't normally want to be widely known for, but there wasn't a thing she could do about it. She could understand, however, exactly what they saw in him now that she'd met him herself. She remembered wondering to herself before from the stories what anyone even saw in him, but he really was flattering, and he was kind of funny in an odd way, too.

Gulping down a lump in her throat she considered standing up on her own, but decided that would probably be an insult to him, and so she actually took the hand he offered. "My name's Caitlin Kincaid," She explained, still fighting off a blush that was stubborn and completely refused to die, just like the stubborn weeds in the garden. "I go by Kit, though." She further elaborated, carefully avoiding looking him in the eye. She was serverly embarrassed and more than a little flustered, but she still had the urge to drag him inside and clean up his hand; having to look after Christian while his mother was sick had probably caused her to be a little more protective and maternal than most girls her age could even imagine being.

"If you don't mind, could you let me fix your hand up?" She asked softly, still worried about him even with the rumors now recalled inside her mind. "It's kind of my fault for not cleaning up after the washers earlier and I feel really guilty about yelling at you..." She explained, ducking her head slightly and noticing his boots. Kit blinked once and stared blankly at them for a moment before glancing back up. If there was a word for exactly how she felt right now it would probably still fall short of explaing the situation; somehow she had not only managed to leave the garden in a condition to make a prince fall, but she'd yelled at him and his clothes were ruined. To say she wanted to crawl under a rock and die would probably be an understatment as well.

Raising an eyebrow, Hiro just looked at his brother evenly. "Right so I'm your mother now. Riiiiiiiiight." He shook his head slightly, "I'm glad I'm not the thick-headed military man you are. Too much potential for embarrassment." He sighed and began walking again. "Just make sure you check on your new maids when they get here." Hiro glanced at Haru's door and a slight smile appeared on his lips, "And warn them about brother's tastes and habits. Letting them get caught by Haku without prior warning."

Hiro turned and tapped his way further down the corridor. Going outside felt like a really good idea, especially since there were the stuffy, slime-bred diplomats from the neighboring kingdoms coming to negotiate trade deals. He needed to get his mind off the current situation. His brothers being themselves, their father being so sick, the possibility of war with one of the neighboring kingdoms growing. He sighed loudly and muttered to no one in particular. "Gods I wish I didn't have to be the responsible leader all the time. I wish Haru, Haku, or Akira could take some of the responsibility for the kingdom." Well he had to be fair, Haru was probably the most responsible one after himself. The military practically glorified Haru's skill and military genius.

Growling mildly to himself, Hiro pushed open the door to his rooms and moved swiftly to his closet. Pulling out some older boots, clock and walking staff he hurriedly changed his clothes. Slipping out through a little used scully door, he hurried out into the town. He smiled slightly, the captain of his personal guard was going to have a fit later but at least for now, he had some freedom and time to himself. Strolling into town he heard the steady ring of the anvil at one of the forges. Smiling to himself he headed in the direction of the smithy. Getting set of those metal blacksmith puzzles would be perfect for today.

Turning the corner of the smithy he stopped in amazement. The person working the forge was a girl. She looked like an angel of fire in the flames of the forge. Shaking his head slightly to clear it, he noticed her age and concluded that she was probably an apprentice. Raising his hands slowly he pulled back his hood, and watched her beat and form the sword she was working on. After a few minutes he cleared his throat to get her attention. "Excuse me. But I was wondering if you had any puzzles made?"

But what is happiness except the simple harmony between a man and the life he leads?

A ruffle of pages disturbed the silence of the palace library. The culprit was known as Kokoro, Akira, one of the four princes to inhabit the castle. He was the bookworm type, and could usually be found here, reading. Well, of course, he would be reading. What else was there to do in a library, besides read or destroy the place? Certainly one of those idiots Akira had for brothers, would be brave enough to destroy the library, one like Haru. Whom, Akira had heard, hired some new maids today. Lovely. This would call for Akira to make sure they did things correctly, as he so often did for the current maids, and servants. The raven haired boy shook his head, ruffling his locks. He was loosing focus over this small matter.

With a heaved sigh, the youngest prince closed the book, and set it on the table in front of him. The fireplace, on the other side of the table, licked at the wood it was given. Akira often liked watching fire, how it burned and was wild. Some day, he hoped to be like that too. Once he was able to, if he was able to.

Staring into the flames, the thought of Haru and the new maids returned to his complex mind. It had never left, really, but just pushed aside. Why would his brother hire new maids? The answer was obvious, they must be good looking, appearance wise. Akira sighed, and shook his head once more. That reason seemed a little more like his other brother, Haku.

Another sigh escaped Akira's lips, and he pushed himself into a standing position, and made his way out of the room. His blue-green eyes scanned the area in front of him, when he held his head high and stood up straight. Akira, and any of his brothers, would have to admit Akira was the most proper, and it probably annoyed some people.

Akira's leather boots clicked against the grande flooring they had, as the boy made his way back to his room. He planned on a trip outside, into the winter weather. It would help clear his mind, and more importantly, get him away from the scurrying of servants, and of course the arguements that were sure to happen, from his brothers.

((Sorry if it's too short. But I have to go help with renovations on my house, so... I will post again later. : ) ))
