Kaien smiled. "I think meeting me first would be a good first step indeed, please come in."
He moved to the side so she could pass through the door. She definitely didn't have the serious air that Evangeline and Sebastian did, but then again he knew that there were those who were far less involved in the conflict.
"What brings you to the Mortal Realm?" He asked, inviting her to sit.

Fern tried very hard to keep her wings folded somewhat flat against her back, just so she didn't knock over some priceless antique. "Well, my parents wanted me to see what the humans have to do to get by. They hoped that it would make me more appreciative of what I can do, and where I live." Her voice trailed off as her eyes flitted about the room. It definitely pleased her. "You have wonderful energy flowing through here, did you know?" Fern asked, trying her hardest not to twirl and fuss.

"Ah, the flow of energy was a little something that was cooked up by the original tenants of this Academy - the Monks who originally guarded the gate used it to help those from the other Realms feel at home." Kaien didn't have much experience with Fae because the conflict brought mostly Angel dissidents to the Gateway, but he liked her energy and felt certain she would liven up the grounds. "I'm happy your family feels this way about the Mortal realm, though. Many treat it as a lesser Realm, but we do have our redeeming features." He riffled through the desk for a key and a Keystone badge. "You'll be rooming in Keystone dorm with others who have traveled through the Gateway to learn from our academy. You'll be in 302, on the top floor." He handed her the Key etched with the room number. "Also, we permit our Keystone students to use the Gateway. The Keystone badge will allow you to do so. I do ask, however, that you go no farther than Atlanthum." He handed her a small pin that contained polished stones glowing a faint red. Kaien folded his hands and continued. "Speaking of the Gateway, you must remember that it is a secret we keep from humankind. If other humans learned that there was a physical Gateway to the Other Realms, the outcome would be tragic. If you must talk of its existence, speak only to other Keystone students." "I understand this is a lot of information, do you have any questions?"

Fern took the badge and key with a firm sense of duty. Her parents had never talked about this with her... "I'm good! Don't worry, I won't say anything to a human about the Gate. But..." She fondled the badge before going on. "Why don't they all know about us? What keeps the human students from telling their parents about us, and their parents from telling everyone else?"

The Headmaster shook his head. "Honestly, most humans have little knowledge of your kind. What they do know is termed 'supernatural' and is subject to disbelief or written off as Fairy Tales" He smiled at the idea of explaining Fairy Tales to an actual Fairy.
"Humans tell the stories of your kind to their children. Since there are so few of you and the secret is so closely guarded, all actual encounters are diminished and made into legend." He folded his hands serenely, "Our students may go home and tell their parents, but naturally they ignore the stories as fantasies made up by youthful minds. Eventually, the students learn not to tell of their schoolmates abilities and the parents forget what they've heard."

"But if that person is of twenty years or so, they aren't considered a child, right?" Fern pinned the little badge on proudly, watching it glint in the light. She returned her eyes to him, though. "It would still be pretty suspicious... but I understand." Fern took a few steps towards the door, but stopped when she realized he hadn't dismissed her. "So I just go right on in to my room? Can I do things to it or no?" The plans she had buzzing through her mind were nearly making her shake with anticipation.

He smiled. "I understand your trepidation, but we have not as of yet had any instances that need attending to."
"Ah yes, and you may do whatever to your room that you wish....as long as it does not physically damage the building..." he added the last knowing the tendencies of the Keystone students.

"Oh, I won't! It won't. I won't hurt anything!" she resolved. Really, she would just knock out a wall if she could, for the air, but that was against the rules.

"Ah, well then you have my permission to do whatever you wish with it. Oh, but do remember we have an extensive grounds area. I'm certain you'll find it amusing. Is there anything else you'd like to know?"

"No, sir." Fern gave him a smile and nod, sure she could handle anything that came her way.

"Lovely, then I shall see you around campus. Be sure to keep from frightening the other students -" Though by the look of her he doubted that she would, "And do your best in classes."
He stood, escorting her to the door and closed it gently behind her when she left.

"I will!" she called to the other side of the door. Fern took the key in hand, waved a goodbye to the potted plant, and headed for the door. "I never got to meet that ficus..." she realized as she pulled the main door shut behind her.

A young man of 19 walked down the hall with his bag slung over his shoulder, stopping at the headmaster's door. So far the school had seemed just as fancy as he'd figured, it not more. What kind of crazy highclass school had his parents sent him off to? Without setting his bag down, he knocked firmly on the door a few times and waited casually leaning against the wall.

Kaien leaned forward, answering "Please come in." before sighing and pulling out a new student form.
