After waking in the cool night air Hyro jumped to his feet and quickly scanned the immediate area. At first he was suspicious of others and possibly even bears but the reasurance of his zanpakuto and the fact that the meadow was pretty well hidden cleared his mind of all skitsofrantic thoughts.

The wind blew softly and the scent of fresh crisp flowers filled the air. But then something else wafted in, the smell of ash and something burning...could it be? Could it be that the forest was on fire? From here there was no telling, he'd have to investigate!

Hyronai brushed himself off and began to follow his nose out of the meadow and into the thick woods. Even though his eyes had adjusted to the black back drop something clouded the air, smoke was the most likely culpret and Hyro knew he was close as the air began thick and heavy with black ashy smoke.

[ENTERS from Captain's Office]

Mock arrived at the forest, followed by Hinata. They have been walking around the squad's premises, as Mock was answering Hinata's several questions. This had been a quiet and peaceful day, work-wise of course. So Mock could took the day off to do what he liked the most: slack off!

As they were walking through the dense pine forest, Mock suddenly stopped upon reaching a large clearing. Now would be the time when he would lit his kiseru for a smoke, but he wasn't in the mood. All this fresh air around them was too good to spoil with tobacco smoke.

Turning around, Mock said to Hinata. Did you enjoyed yourself up until now? I belive it's time to have some fun!

Let's Battle!
He grinned.

[Enters with Mockadash]

Hinata still remembered this forest. She had trained here many a time while in the Gotei, sometimes accompanied by one of her workmates, sometimes on her own.
However, she had not bargained on sparring with her Captain so soon. Her first response to his proposition was a surprised look, her eyebrows in danger of disappearing into her flyaway fringe. As soon as Mockadash had said that, a bad mental image of him having his blade at her neck in two seconds immediately sprung to her mind. She dismissed it quickly, telling herself that her Captain was not stupid enough to kill his new recruit on her first day.
In contrast to Hinata's apprehensive look, Harikaze had lost her composed manner, and was practically roaring encouragements into her mind, in Harikaze style, of course.

"Hey, idiot, here's the chance to prove yourself to your new Captain, so don't make a fool of yourself. I've been sitting here on my lazy butt dying of boredom for ages. It's about time that you got us into a good fight. Oh, and listen to my suggestions for once, 'cause your brain is obviously too small to handle the pressure of 'thinking' in battle, something you don't do much anyway."

‘…Die…’ Thought Hinata. Harikaze heard it, of course.

“Fine. I’ll say it plainly then. Listen to me, ‘cause you have no chance against him, since you’re super-weak and he has the advantage of shunpo, and his kidou spells are likely to actually WORK, unlike yours. I really doubt that he even needs to attempt using his Shikai or Bankai on you, ‘cause you’ll probably be blown away like a leaf just from the release. I’ll lend you some of my power if you want to do fiddly things with your shikai, but otherwise just try not to get too beaten up, ‘cause I can’t be bothered to wait for you to recover either.”

"Okay!" Hinata shouted, pulling her zanpaktou out and sticking it unceremoniously into the ground next to her. She raised her head, her eyes narrowing a little in determination, and grinned slightly.
“Shall we begin?”

(( Sorry about the long wait. I'm involved in several different RPs and most of them are battles, so I kind of lost the inspiration on what to do next... sweatdrop ))

Yes, we shall. Mock said to her, as he raised his head to meet the sky above. He gazed at some clouds in a distance, while talking. I'll be gauging your power and skill, since I've already gauge your determination and spirit.

Come on. What are you waiting for? Attack me! Give me your best shot!

MockaDash was apparently keeping his guard down, still staring at the blue sky, while scratching the back of his head.

(( That happens to me all the time... I call it... "RPers' block" xD ))

At Mockadash's command, Hinata raised her zanpaktou, her reiatsu increasing rapidly. She knew that this was not going to be easy, and she could neither outwit him in power, logic or skill. Deciding that the best course of action was to analyze how seriously he was taking this battle, she dug her feet into the soil of the forest floor and shot forwards, her legs a blur as she ran.
Once within reach of Mockadash, she did not attack (as she knew a head-on attack at someone much stronger than her was plain idiocy), but darted to the left, crouching low and attempting to take a swipe at her Captain's side.

Fear, is your enemy in battle. the Captain said, referring to Hinata's "inability" to use her full force.

Mock, still scratching the back of his head with his right hand, used his left to held his katana's scabbard. Quickly darting his left arm across the front of his chest, he placed the sheath between his torso and Hinata's blade, thus successfully parrying her attack.

I understand that you are assessing my commitment to this battle. Also, that you're well aware of the difference in power between us.

So, your mistake was...
he halted his speech to show her a wide grin, as he rather slowly reached for the tsuka of his katana with the hand that have been scratching his head.
Since the Zanpakutou was being held by his left, the handle was naturally pointing up. Mock had been twisting his left wrist downwards, in order to push Hinata's sword down, and keep both it and her "locked" in place. By reaching the handle, MockaDash - being extremely adept at Iado - swiftly performed a battoujutsu, drawing the sword while at the same time slashing with it at Hinata. The blade described an arch in the air, aiming to slice the Shinigami's body from her right torso up to her left shoulder.

Mock finished his sentence ... getting within my reach.

Hinata's eyes widened as her eyes followed the quick movement of MockaDash's hand as he unsheathed his blade. Swiftly, she slid her own zanpaktou out from under MockaDash's scabbard in order to free her arm. She brought her blade up to parry his slash, but was not quick enough to block his whole attack. His sword tip buried itself in her left shoulder, leaving a deep 3-inch gash. Blood splattered her arm as she arched backwards in a one-handed back-flip to prevent herself from falling. She landed on her feet, but skidded back a few metres from the force of MockaDash's blow.
Though the cut in her shoulder was now bleeding profusely, Hinata ignored it, not taking her eyes off her opposition.

“That ‘fear’ you speak of is my idea of ‘common sense’,” she replied amusedly to her Captain’s remark, the corners of her lips twitching into a small smile. “I know that you are much stronger than me, and that was just proved by you sending me back about 5 metres with just a normal slash. I may not be the sturdiest of people but…” She paused, glancing at the blood now staining her hand guards, not even bothering to think what horrific injury he could have dealt her if she had not slid her blade out of his lock and jumped back just in time. “…It certainly helps where speed and agility are concerned.”

‘Since I cannot harm him that way…’ she thought, ‘I could try distracting him a little.’

“Hn. Maybe if you set fire to his hat or break his kiseru he might be distracted,” Harikaze suggested.

‘Actually, that wouldn’t be a bad idea… If he wouldn’t kill me straight away afterwards,’ Hinata thought sullenly.

Hinata didn’t have time to think of a proper strategy. Assuming that, even if MockaDash wasn’t taking this seriously, he would still be a formidable opponent, she decided there was no point in drawing the fight out any longer, as she would probably just get cut up into ribbons without a shikai.

“I think it’s time I introduced you to my zanpaktou,” Hinata’s voice rang out to her Captain. “Her name is Harikaze. She’s rather difficult to get along with, so if she goes psycho on you, please don’t take it personally.” She grinned, raising her zanpaktou to a horizontal position in front of her.

“Chime, Harikaze.”

Hinata’s reiatsu flared green as wind rushed into the clearing, engulfing her and her zanpaktou in a vortex of swirling air. Her hair whipped around her face as the sound of tinkling wind chimes surrounded her. Her eyes narrowed to keep MockaDash in sight beyond the dust and leaves that had been stirred up by the gale. Sunlight glistened off Harikaze, creating a golden sheen upon the newly white blade.

When the wind receded into a gentle breeze, Hinata emerged with a calm disposition, smiling slightly. Her eyes gleamed, and not waiting for her Captain’s reaction, she raised her blade and slashed it through the air. A spray of crystals whistled past the place her zanpaktou had just been, aimed at MockaDash.

Haven't you figured it out yet? Common sense was just thrown out the window!... The Captain said with a grin. Guess I'll have to show it to you then...

As Hinata was preparing to release her shikai, Mock retrieved a wakizashi from his kimono, after fastening the katana's saya to his obi once more. Rubbing the dagger on the katana, Mock allowed the blood to taint its (the wakizashi's) pure white blade. The blade absorbed Hinata's blood, becoming completely dark.

Hinata, by this time, had released a spray of crystals towards MockaDash, using her Zanpakutou. Had I not release my sword as well, I would be discourteous. An eerie dark crimson reiatsu overflowed to Mock's surroundings, staining the forest trees at both the Shinigami's eyes. The size of the small dagger's blade had increased dramatically, turning a wakizashi into a man-sized nodachi. Mock brandished his Zanpakutou - using the left hand - and released from it a condensed dark wave of energy.

Sheathing the katana onto its saya and switching the nodachi to his right hand, Mock witness as both attacks collided against each other, nullifying themselves. A medium-sized blast occurred when the crystals and the dark wave impacted, somewhere in the space between both contenders.

MockaDash was licking small drops of blood, that somehow started to drip from the tip of the black nodachi.
Your blood is not that tasty... But it isn't bad either... guess I'll have to try some more!... He smirked. His voice seemed that of a different man.

Hinata was thoroughly freaked out by MockaDash's sudden change and dark reiatsu, but didn't let this demoralise her as her attack was nullified by his wave of evergy.

“My blood is not that tasty?” she sniffed, raising her left arm to lick a drop of said blood that had been resting on the tip of her thumb. “Hmm. I guess not. If you had found it so, I would be slightly worried…” she remarked, flicking some blood that had dripped upon her blade.

‘What is this? He’s turned into a blood-thirsty demon,’ thought the shinigami cautiously. ‘This certainly wasn’t in the script for a tour around the 13th Division.’

“It’s his zanpaktou, idiot. Look- how it’s turned that sinister black colour. I don’t have a good feeling about this. And it appears he doesn’t just have one sword. You’d better watch your neck if you want it to remain intact.”

Hinata took a wary step forward, before breaking into a run. Her speed increased by her Shikai release, she appeared a black and white blur as she swung her blade repeatedly in the air, producing from it hundreds of crystals at her will. Directing their flight towards her target, she parted the crystals into several sections and used them to attack MockaDash from all sides. Simultaneously, she leapt into the air, intending to attack from above.

‘Please work…’ she thought, blowing her free left hand to rid her index finger from blood.
“Hadou #4: Byakurai,” she chanted, aiming her finger at MockaDash’s head. There was a small explosion, then a huge ray of white energy beamed from her hand.

‘Damn! I didn’t mean for my Kidou spell to be that powerful,’ she cursed silently, wincing slightly from the sudden loss of reiryoku.

“That was reckless, idiot. You knew full well the consequences of using Kidou when you’re not focusing properly in battle…” Harikaze scolded, referring to the fact that Hinata still couldn’t manage to produce a decent Kidou spell without having to be put into a quiet room to focus. Hinata landed behind her Captain, whipping her sword arm around, meaning to cut him from behind.

Good... You've become daring! MockaDash said with glee, as he brandished his nodachi in front of him, releasing a larger wave of dark reiatsu than before.

The wave, instead of traveling in a direct line as the previous one did, halted its movement a couple of meters ahead of Mock and spread itself to all sides, like a net. The dark reiatsu thus released, blocked all incoming crystals, by shielding Mock inside of it.

While being shielded inside his "dome of darkness", Hinata could not see MockaDash nor could he see her. But the Captain could felt her presence above him, due to the gathering of reiryoku she performed to cast a hadou. As the crystals were nullified and the dark wave subdued, Mock was already looking up at Hinata, swinging his Zanpakutou at her.

MockaDash displayed a wide smirk on his face, as his Zanpakutou was releasing yet another dark wave. This time though, the wave did not leave the blade, "choosing" to remain attached to it instead.
The White Lightning was easily disrupted by the dark energy flourishing from the nodahi's blade, as it grew in order to not only engulf the spell, but also the incoming Shinigami.

Too bad... You had to come right into the wolf's den! he said, while spinning on his right foot in order to strike at Hinata, that had landed behind him. The swing of the blade, was followed by the large net of black reiatsu attached to it. The spiritual energy of such wave was so condensed, that in the event of a successful strike, it would felt as if being hit by dozens of blades at the same time.

Hinata's side seared as it was scorched by the energy coming from MockaDash's zanpaktou. Through the darkness of the reiatsu wave, Hinata heard a blade come whistling through the air towards her.

"No! You idiot! Not with the sword! It will break!" screamed Harikaze, prompting Hinata (who had previously been raising her zanpaktou to parry the blow) to instead use the movement to create a thick shield of crystals. It did not completely block the attack, but it did reduce the force of the reiatsu, and she was able to successfully stop herself from receiving too much damage by swiftly bringing her left hand against her zanpaktou blade, and taking the bone-shattering blow with both hands. There was a horrible crunching sound, and Hinata felt her elbow dislocate.

Unfortunately, the strain of this movement also caused the wound in Hinata's left shoulder, which had just about started to clot, to open and spurt out a stream of blood again. The shinigami gritted her teeth, while raising her head, a hint of amusement dancing in her eyes despite the pain.

"Looks like even if I happen to venture into the wolf's den, I'll still get out alive," she said, forcefully repelling MockaDash's zanpaktou, causing herself to skid back a few metres. "Though you're right, too bad for me, wolves are my favourite animals. I'd hate to have to kill them as a way of escape..." She grimaced as she stretched her arm out, and with a crack, her displaced bone popped back into it's socket.

This time, she did not only produce a few air crystals, but a cascade of them came pouring from her blade tip once she had slashed it through the air. She expertly pulled them into a ring around her. Judging by the fact that her crystal shield could stop her Captain's reiatsu wave, she derived from that a plan which might get her within reach of him without sacrificing herself. She ran forward, commanding her crystal ring to move with her, to protect her if he decided to attack. She then formed what looked like a huge sharp stake, and sent it at MockaDash, spinning at top speed to form almost a drill.
PostPosted: Tue May 26, 2009 5:59 am

In response to Hinata's sharp comment, about "hate to have to kill a wolf in order to escape", Mock simply tilted his nodachi slightly to the side. The blood pouring from Hinata's shoulder wound, spiraled in the air, and ended up being absorbed by the Zanpakutou's blade. Mock smirked, as the reiatsu he was leaking out increased by a small amount.

The Captain licked his upper lip... Tastier by the second... I'm beginning to enjoy this!

As the young girl approached him, MockaDash closed his left eye, and sighed, lowering his guard (as well as his sword). Passing his left hand on the long and tainted blade of his Zanpakutou, the Shinigami stained it with blood. Aiming the blood covered finger at Hinata, as blood dripped from his hand, Mock casted a kidou. Hadou #4 -- Kuro Byakurai!

It was the usual hadou - White Lightning - but with Mock's personal twist to it. As the lightning jolted from the tip of his finger, the blood on his hand entwined itself around the white energy, partially tainting it black. MockaDash was amazingly precise with White Lightning, so he aimed it at a specific point in the revolving stake, causing it to lose control.
The bolt of spiritual energy struck the side of the drill, making its rotation unbalanced on that side, and forcing it to deviate from its path. Afterwards, Mock easily sidestepped Hinata's charge with the ice drill, while the blood that was infused in the lightning, splattered upon contact. As he did so, however, he was able to gently rest his left hand on her left shoulder. Pouring some reiryoku into it, Mock closed the wound.

...That's why we should stop. the Captain said, un-releasing his Zanpakutou as it became a wakizashi once again. But not before he had used its ability to, not only stop the blood from flowing, but replenish Hinata's blood lost as well.

You did good, but I'm afraid I was beginning to get carried away. I could end up killing you, by mistake! Mock said. Do you want to rest, or carry on? I'll let you decide.

(( Well done Hinata! Nice RPing! I've seen enough of it to make a decision. As we've previously discussed, I'll allow you the use of shikai, you deserve it.
Just try to be more active! You could accomplish much more if you were. I'm disappointed that a RPer such as yourself, does not RP much. If I can help you with anything, don't be afraid to ask.

Also, let's continue this PRP. The battle may be over - it's all up to you - but the RP can carry on. xp Congrats, once again! ))

"Now that," said Harikaze, "is what you call Kido."

As she watched her crystal drill career off to one side, Hinata raised her zanpaktou to prevent it from driving through a tree, and all the crystals she had formed (including those around her) dissipated. The reiryoku she had been using to hold them together returned to her body with a rush. Knowing that the battle was over, she returned Harikaze to its unsealed state.

"It's okay," she said, having no doubt that the 'getting carried away' MockaDash could indeed kill her by mistake. "I've never been the type for hardcore battling anyway..." She flicked her blade to the side, then slid it back into is sheath.

"Interestingly, my blood seems to have come back into my body," she observed, looking up. "You have a creepy zanpaktou," she commented bluntly.

(( Thank you! Actually, this is my first RP in a while. School work, exams and a very late History project have kept me back...
And I never thought that my RP skills were that good anyway... I seem to have a habit of over-using adjectives, and then my sentences become more and more complicated, and no-one can understand them xD.

sweatdrop Sorry for this very late reply. I didn't realise you had posted it on Tuesday... I must be going blind. I checked yesterday and somehow didn't see it. ))

~~ Reconstruction ~~

[From this point on, all events are occurring after the liberation of the 13th Squad and the end of the Pinwheel plot and 3 year Time-Skip.]

Shinzou stood quietly at the edge of the forest, looking around silently. He wasn't there to do anything in particular, simply to think about everything that had been going on. He slowly began to walk, silent as a mouse, deeper and deeper into the forest. The Shinigami stopped at the base of a large tree, sitting down and leaning back against it. He wondered if he would ever be strong enough to hold his own against people like the Captain. Shinzou sighed, even from across a battlefield miles in diameter he could feel his Captain's spiritual pressure trying to drive him into the ground. Heck, he had even been able to sense Mock's power from the edge of the forest.

Now, as Shinzou sat here among the tree trunks... scattered leaves tumbling along all around him in a gentle breeze, now he could not feel that power anymore. Escaping the reaches of his Captain had both a Liberating and Isolating effect. He felt liberated now that he was out of the range of his Captain's abilities, that pressure and constant presence was gone for the first time in a long time. But, out here, he didn't feel like part of the squad. He felt like a drifter, a nomad, exploring places that he had never been to before.
