Kurai stumbled back. Why was she always caught off guard with him? These hugs! She should have been able to dodge them in a trice! Yoruichi would be ashamed.
Well, maybe she'd be laughing. Either way, Kurai flushed her customary crimson at the gesture of affection. She returned the hug stiffly, but she was still tensed. Her senses were alert for unwanted onlookers, but this wing of the manor seemed mostly empty.
"You shouldn't be here!" She said again. She was genuinely worried for him. She wasn't sure what the Shihouins would do if they caught him. It startled her to realize she would risk her own exposure to protect him, though.

Hitsugaya smiled at the hug she gave in return, it wasn't much like the hug he gave her, but it was one whatsoever. He noticed her face flushed a crimson red color. Listening to the concern in her voice, he couldn't help but smile. He has been waiting here patiently for days.
"I know...I just had to see you again...I didn't know where else to reach you." He grabbed her hand and led her off the grounds into a forest nearby. "Better? Haha you worry too much Kurai. Even more than my zanpuk-to"
"Shut up Shiro, you could've seriously got in trouble with her family."
Hitsugaya glanced down at his zanpuk-to as a dragon made entirely of ice materialized from the ground. "Haha Kurai, meet Itsuru... my zanpuk-to"

Kurai was relieved that Hitsugaya had taken them outside. Despite her pathological urge to watch the family that would never accept her, she didn't mind the change of scenery.
Her skin prickled as icy power filled the clearing and Hitsugaya's Itsuru materialized in the forest with them. He gave off the same icy scent as his wielder, but it was a familiar sense. One she might even begin to enjoy.
She stared into the dragon's eyes, though, of course, her own frosted gold registered nothing. "Well met, Itsuru," She addressed the dragon directly, though she glanced apologetically at Hitsugaya. "I would introduce my own, but I'm afraid my training has been...spotty... in places. I don't even know my first release,"
Her pride screamed at her for the admonition, and it begged her to elaborate on her other skills. Her speed, for example, was well advanced for a novice. Still, she kept it simple and pushed her natural arrogance to one side where it seethed quietly.

Hitsugaya experienced an excitment rush thorugh his chest as she spoke to his zanpuk-to. He couldn't help but admire her formailty and elegance as she spoke. It represented a true sign of a royal bloodline.
Her explanation based on her training was much unexpected. "Really? You just seem so fast when you move...much like a captain when they shunpo." He took out a blanket from his bag and laid it out on the soft grass in the forest. He took out a picnic basket as well. "I really hope you are hungry! Also, I have a few questions to ask you." He pulled out a cake, two bowls of ramen, and a pot of tea along with two cups from the picnic basket.

Kurai grinned at his compliment. She had been told be several people that she moved just like Yoruichi, and it was her secret joy. It made her feel connected to her distant sister. Even if they hadn't seen each other for over a hundred years, Kurai liked the idea that Yoruichi was with her.
"It's all in the blood," She demurred, smiling at his antics. She hadn't noticed the bag, so she was surprised by its contents. She thought she might begin to like the chivalrous Hitsugaya. His light nature made her burdens a bit lighter.
She sat, muted gold eyes following his movement. She balked internally at the mention of questions, but she felt as though she owed Hitsugaya an explanation of sorts. Being attacked by Shihouins seemed reason enough.
"Fire away," She said, inviting the questions. There was only the slightest hitch in her breathing to suggest discomfort, but she pushed that aside and smiled.

Hitsugaya poured her a cup of tea and handed it to her. He looked at her with a perplexed look residing upon his face. "Well, The only person that seems to know you is Yomiko. I could tell in her voice that your name was not to be mentioned or some reason. You feared comming here and always seem to look around as if someone of the family will notice you. Yet, this is your family. Why do you fear them so much?"

Kurai accepted the cup, mulling over his first question as she stared into the steam rising from the hot tea. Of course, his first question was a difficult one. He was perceptive, and she imagined all his questions would hold similar weight.
She took a sip of the tea, letting the subtle flavor calm her. Finally, she spoke in a measured tone, as if trying to put her thoughts in order. "I'm not frightened of them. It is they who have cause to fear me. Widespread knowledge of my existence would be...troubling...And the clan has been unstable these past hundred years. Losing Yoruichi was quite a blow, and only now does the clan recover under Yomiko,"
She was fell silent, wondering what sort of answer Hitsugaya had been expecting. She felt strangely open to him. Her normal guarded demeanor had dropped, and the freedom was not wholey comfortable.

Hitsugaya watched her as she though about the questions. After her answer, he realized how uncomfortable she was answering these questions. He had much more questions to ask, but most of them must now be left unanswered. He cleared his throat. "So...you're saying that they don't know about you?"

"My birth was never recorded. It's as though I don't exist to them," Kurai said, letting blunt honesty guide her answer.
If felt liberating to admit a perfect truth, and she imagined she would tell Hitsugaya what he wanted to know. Besides, if they were to be friends, he had to accept her. And he needed to know. To be warned, at the very least, of her nature.

Looking at Kurai awestruck, though he still managed to drink his tea. He leaned back a bit with the tea in his right hand and leaned on his left. "Wow, haha...no wonder why you are so nervous around this place." He looked to his right and examined the house with wonder. He looked at kurai with sympathy in his eyes. "I didn't mean to push you to a point where you felt obligated to answer my questions kurai, my apologies." He bowed his head in guilt.

"No, Hitsugaya," Kurai hastened to reassure him. "It's ok. If people are going to be around me, there are things they need to understand. Ask your questions, and I'll tell you the truth, if you'll permit me,"
She appreciated the delicacy with which Hitsugaya handled the conversation. She was used to a kind of Spanish inquisition when it came to personal questions. Most people were just too curious about her appearance to let a story like hers go. Hitsugaya's approach was refreshing.

Hitsugaya looked at Kurai and smiled. He placed his hand on hers and said, "Kurai, all I wished to learn has been told. I don't care that much about your past. It doesn't matter. I just want to get to know YOU. Also... call me Shiro." He looked at her with a a reassuring smile.

Kurai glanced at the hand that covered hers. With a sigh, she slipped her hand away. He was being so kind. It made the necessity of his understanding greater.
"Ok, Shiro," She said, trying out the nickname. "If you want to get to know me, you have to listen to what I say. My past shapes me. What I was then doesn't differ greatly from what I am, now. It is only a modicum of control that makes the difference,"

"Alright.." Kurai sat back with a sigh, collecting her thoughts. "I'm sure you've guessed at some of this. Obviously, I'm a Shihouin. I've never been a real human. In that respect, my appearance doesn't do my age justice. I am physically over one hundred years old,"
Her muted gold eyes seemed far away, taking on a distant quality that overshadowed the frosted shroud of blindness. "I was--am--the youngest in a family that was said to have born only one daughter. My sister is fifteen years older than me, but we look almost exactly alike, or so I've been told..." She laughed softly. "It's funny... I've haven't seen Yoruichi for close to one hundred years,"
