The young stallion felt more and more sure of the term 'mate' while he stood beside Nivriti's side. The dark femme was more than he could have hoped for; she was silly and light hearted, and terribly beautiful with an even more wretchedly wonderful personality and soul. He had never thought he might allow his heart to be captured, had never believed it to be possible! For awhile there the young stallion had thought he might be something of a rake and wanderer, always on the move, always looking at what else might lie out there. . . .
He loved mares, he truly did. They were a beauty he couldn't compare himself to, something he thought above him and a class all their own. From the simplest regular to the most holy angeni (not that he'd ever met one, mind) Althalus was more than happy to serve such creatures. He adored them, certainly, but some how he found himself ensnared by the young brown and cream hued wind. . . .
Their relationship was new, very new and Althalus understood his semi-flirtatious behavior. He would forever respect Nivriti, but just because he had her as his chosen (or was it the other way around?) didn't mean that he would be less kind or obliging to the fairer sex. He did have many a female friend, after all, and many whom he would still be as complimentary as ever. Where some stallions might weave such pretty words because of a less moral need and manipulation, Althalus liked to believe he was above that.
He didn't paint pretty words because of some game; he painted them because they were true.
The stallion had wondered if perhaps things had been rushed, but their journey together had been nothing but glorious. Oh, how he found himself more and more enraptured with her everyday - to watch her as she first rose in the morning, to see her eyes glitter with pleasure after a kind word or a gentle gesture and gift. If he had ever lived to serve the mares of the world, Nivriti would by far break the mold in such a desire and need.
She fit so easily within his life he couldn't imagine it without her. Oh, he could only hope she wouldn't find regret in their decision. . . He'd make sure she understood just how much he adored her.
At her words, his features twitched in to a gentle expression, eyes lingering over her while his mother chattered on about something or other. Same old Yei, that was for sure. . . . SHE certainly hadn't aged or changed since his wanderlust bit him. Nuzzling her neck, silver eyes turned back towards his mother, an ear flicking her way while he tried to catch on conversation.
"Mother--" He chuckled, though he did paw at the ground in almost a nervous fashion, a snippet of his youth flaring up. What foal, no matter how grown, ever grew up enough to not worry their parent might wretchedly embarrassed them. Around friends it was fine, but this was Nivriti~! Oh, he adored Yei and placed her on a pedestal all her own, but only too late did he remember just how playful and silly she could be! "I was hoping you'd save sharing the blackmail stories when I wasn't present. . . " Oh the things Nivriti could, and he figured by the end of their stay, would find out.
Still, he was pleased that his mother was encouraging to Nivriti's self-esteem. She was more than just a 'fine young mare'; she was beautiful and adorable and overwhelmingly wonderful. Fine just didn't do her justice.

Nivriti blushed, and hurriedly nodded in Yei's direction. Was she teasing? She had to be teasing.
'Oh I know, I can see it completely. He was very lucky to have gotten your lovely looks.' she said, her words coming out swiftly in her still lingering nerves. A giggle slipped out at the mental picture Yei painted, and she blushed again when Althalus's mother complimented her.
'Well thank you. I shall pass your words onto my mother and father, for I owe my appearance to them both after all.' she canted her head to one side. Curious? Oh no..this was where the other shoe dropped, and something she'd done or not done was bought up and held against her. She felt herself shrinking a little. When Yeo did speak though, Nivriti felt her muscles un-knot in relief.
'Althalus is wonderfully eloquent, and has been since I met him.' Nivriti said, warming to the topic. She would show to him..if he hadn't already guessed..just how special he was to her. Although, if she thought about it, they hadn't really discussed their actual status towards one another. She fretted about that for a moment, but plunged on.
'I know his feelings for me are true, and he spoke of his affections in such a way as to make me feel like the most cherished mare that there ever was. He is so very dear to me. I love him.' she said, taking courage from her feelings and holding herself proudly before Althalus's mother.

They were being very vague... Typical, secretive children. Then again, Yei often forgot that the majority of Soquili in the Kawani lands were not quite as exhuberant as this particular mare was. It took a very special individual to calm her and to deal with her continued antics. Granted Ambroise ignored her but more often than not Grencia was there to humour her when she required it. This close bond was arguably what Yei sought for all her children though she was surprised that the one who acted most like his father in his younger years...had found that bond first. It really was a puzzle, she would never understand how the spirits operated.
Nevertheless as the meeting progressed Yei became more and more aware of that bond. The pair seemed to feed off one another, with each word that was spoken they grew more confident. Accustomed to her son being a little louder, his bashful behaviour only made her more satisfied by the outcome. So he had wandered off on his own and had been captured by a very beautiful mare - ah, all the eligible bachelors tried to hard to escape but it never worked out that way.
Oh ho!
"Oooh, you found a girl with manners too," she cooed as she glanced at her son, her brow raised. She had never truly doubted his taste but there was something highly entertaining about watching the pair fidget uncomfortably. Yei had never had to experience the 'meet the parents' moment and thus, she practically savoured the opportunity to tease the two 'children' as much as she could. No doubt if Grencia had been here she would have been more disciplined but ooooh, their faces were terribly adorable!
But of course, she needed to added a little more wood to the fire, didn't she?
"I am glad he maintained his manners and let us hope that my grandchildren are as well behaved," she wiggled her brow and stretched her neck forward slightly. It was only then that she cleared her throat and her expression became 'serious', "So...when am I going to hear the pitter patter of tiny hooves then?"

The love he felt for Nivriti seemed to glow as she spoke of her affections. In fact, his nose almost coloured because this was his mother after all, and for some reason he felt a little uncomfortable under her scrutiny. Oh he loved Yei, adored her, and couldn't be more proud to introduce Nivriti to her! But at the same time this wasn't at all how he expected the meeting to go. It wasn't bad or wrong but it wasn't at all how he thought things would go. The subjects she kept bringing up were almost embarrassing. . . .
And then Yei crossed the line.
After nuzzling Nivriti, glowing with pride at her gentle words, if the young stallion could blanch he would have. Silver eyes went wide as Yei brought up the notion of grand foals and the sunset male had to choke back a snort. Oh spirits where was Grencia when he was needed!? His father would have kept Yei in check and maybe this subject wouldn't be brought up.
Not that Althalus didn't someday want foals of his own. . . but. . but. . . they'd only just come to realization of their love and affections. They were still figuring out their own relationship and had hardly crossed the lines of love much less mentioned foals! "Mother," Althalus murmured, dipping his head and pawing at the ground. He almost wanted to hiss and shush her but obviously such a thing would be disrespectful.
Speechless.
"We . . we haven't really talked about it. . ." He glanced over at Nivriti, apologetic, and could only hope the golden eyed mare wasn't going to change her mind about everything after meeting Yei.
Oh, he loved his mother's playful nature, but . . . but this was Nivriti's first meeting~!! Didn't Yei have compassion or sympathy to her sons desperate plight to keep Nivriti in his life? "My mother's incorrigible," he muttered, as if such a thing wasn't obvious.

Nivriti had smiled at Yei's comments about her manners, and she silently thanked her own mother Aishwarya for being persistent about that when she was growing up.
'Grand-children?' she echoed. Of course she'd thought of that. She was a mare, she was in love, and she'd made a picture in her mind of what would be the perfect future for Althalus and herself. Children figured in that future. But it was a misty dream, and far away. Maybe even further away than she thought, given his reaction to his mother's question.
'I think that is something that only time will tell. Althalus's siblings have not furnished you with grand-children yet then?' she asked, all politeness, turning the heat away from Althalus. She turned her head towards him, and gave the minutest of head shakes.
'Given enough time, my mother would ask the same.' she whispered back, parents, especially mothers, did tend to think along the same thoughts whenever it seemed their children were becoming romantically entwined with another.

Yei released a soft sigh at the mention of her other children and shook her head somewhat solemnly. She was aware that Ambroise had sired none due to his responsibilities but in relation to the remaining two children... As unfortunate as it was, Yei had yet to even hear from her other darlings. She wondered about them daily, often asked for a sign to let her know that they were happy at the very least and as of yet she had received nothing. She could only hope that in time they would return home just as Althalus had and shower good news on her!
"Unfortunately no...Ambroise has had other duties to fulfill, it was unwise for him to find a mate as of yet," she confessed softly before clearing her throat. "Killian and Adarna have not come home yet so I don't know, I can only hope that they will surprise me," she smiled pleasantly at the notion of unexpected visits. Hell she wouldn't have been adverse to one coming home with children for all she cared!
"But as you say only time will tell, I am simply anxious to see him settled down," she eyed the sheepish expression of her son and smiled devilishly. She had always considered it her duty to lovingly tease her children. She wouldn't be herself and wouldn't have such a loving bond with her children if anything had been any different (or so she assumed). Thus, she flicked her mane away from her eyes and turned her gaze back to the mare.
"You have to admit he is quite the catch and really, if he is the first to find his true love then I should hope he grants me children soon." She cleared her throat again and sighed dramatically. "Besides you would make gorgeous children and one might say that the Kawani lands could do with another burst of exhuberant, don't you?"
"The sooner you settle him down, the sooner we can get to work." She gave a playful giggle and had she hands she would have clapped them gleefully. Unfortunately the only thing she could do was smile and morph her expression into one of complete delight at the prospect of 'marrying' off one of her sons!

Children. . . . .
Althalus wasn't averse to the idea of a family. Having grown up in an adoring family with three siblings, and an even larger herd, the young stallion knew without a doubt that he wanted a family. But what he didn't know yet was when. . . .
He had been happy to be free and relaxed. He had traveled the world, had met many a stranger and had grown up along the way. While he enjoyed his freedom, he had never forgot about home or the family that lived there. He still cherished the memories of wrestling with his brothers and doting upon his mother and sister; he'd been a bit of an imp but there were too many fond memories in the foothills to ever keep him away from long.
The young stallion had once believed that he'd leave the family life up to his other siblings; he had found himself foot loose and fancy free. He could enjoy companionship with whomever he chose for as long as he felt inclined; and though his meetings were completely harmless (or so he believed) he had never thought about settling. Not until his heart was positively snatched Nivriti. . . .
He'd never believed in love at first sight until he'd met her.
And now, the prospect of children and family weren't far behind. . . . but then again, the young stallion wanted to be selfish for awhile. He wanted to keep Nivriti all to himself for awhile. He wanted to be able to spend time with her and her alone, and wasn't keen on giving that up so soon. Oh, now that his mother wasn't the one tossing up such demands he could think about the scenario. . . mull over it a bit. . . . .
Little Althalus' and Nivriti's might not be a terrible thing.
But with luck he wouldn't have to worry about making his mother a grandmother any time soon.
"Oh I'm quite settled, and happily so," he added, leaning over to offer his brown furred mate another affectionate nuzzle. "But give me a little time to get Nivriti used to our family before we bring children in to the mix. You've three others just as capable," he added with a wry grin.

'Well, I am sure one of your children will oblige you sooner or later.' Nivriti smiled. How would that be for Althalus to be the first to give his parents grand-children! She imagined they would be very pleased, as would her own. But, she was thinking far ahead of herself, and could only view it as a pleasant far off maybe.
'I..well,' she was lost for words at the questioning from Yei, but rallied herself and gave answers as well as she was able.
'Yes, he is. I've not found anyone like him,' she flickered a sweet look at Althalus. 'Do you think so? I know they will be beautiful if they took after Althalus,' she said, a neat compliment to both him and his parents she thought.
'Well I wouldn't want to presume that I've settled him down..' she began, her nose colouring once again. At Althalus's words and the nuzzle, she lowered her eyes, fully overcome and a little embarrassed. She turned into him, whispering I love you, and shuffled, only glancing back at his mother when she felt that her 'blushes' had subsided.
'You'll definately be the first to know if and when there is a happy event,' she assured Yei. 'Well, at about the same time as my own mother, who is probably no less eager to hear the clip of small hooves.'

"Althalus," Yei's tone was flat as he mentioned his siblings and her brow soon raised. "Might I remind you of who those siblings are?" Her expression softened slightly and she released a chuckle. While she loved all her children they certainly had their quirks. Althalus was by far the most sociable and the one most incliend to follow his heart but his brothers and sister... It was a little different for each of them. It was because she loved her children, that she could afford to be blunt about them.
"Killian is over excitable and spends his time frolicking in flowers, your sister spends all her time toying with men and Ambroise..." she sighed at the mention of the eldest of her children. Overwhelmed with worry, she found it just a little difficult to contain herself. No doubt his father would fight to keep him safe, but she was a mother and as a result she was entitled to be overly emotional - particularly in relation to her own children.
"Well, you know as well as I do that your brother has the personality of a plank." Clearing her throat, she canted her head to the side and permitted the tresses of hair to tumble over her eyes. It partially obscured her reflection affording them a little 'privacy' as they nudged at one another shyly. Really, even this old mare knew when she needed to become momentarily blind for the sake of her child's dignity! "As much as I dearly love Ambroise, I doubt he will be fathering any children soon."
"Unless..."
Puffing up her chest, she took to mimicking his eldest brother - revealing to Nivriti that the two were more than just different...they were complete opposites. With that she began to strut from side to side, imitating the long strides of her son and the grim expression he often had on his face. To say he wasn't approachable would have been more than an understatement - most simply turned around and left him to his thoughts.
"It was his duty, of course."
Again she sighed and regathered her composure, her form relaxing considerably as she returned her gaze to the pair. A faint smile appeared on her lips and she gave a light shrug, "But I understand that every selfish male likes to steal his mare away for as long as possible - contrary to belief I was once a young mare myself."
"It'll be a pleasure when it does happen though, even if it leaves your father with a headache - hm?" She teased, attempting to embarass her son again by reminding him of how troublesome he had been in the past.

Althalus wasn't entirely sure he was ready for foals. Oh, he knew he wanted to be a father someday but at the moment he still felt as if his relationship with Nivriti was far too new. Not that he doubted his love's loyalty, or his own heart for hers, but things had moved at a ridiculously fast pace. . . .
Part of the stallion hoped that children weren't going to follow such a theme.
Furthermore, he wanted to be selfish for awhile. He wanted to claim Nivriti as his own and keep her all to himself. Such selfishness wasn't something he would readily claim but he didn't want to share her attention with any other and to have foals meant that sharing was all there was.
No, he wanted to keep her all to himself, even if just a little while longer.
The sunset stallion watched as his mother corrected him. He had no clue what was happening in his siblings world, so her vague reference allowed the wheels of his mind to churn. It didn't surprise him that Killian was hyperactive as ever - and that Adarna had grown up in to a vixen, well, she was ever beautiful. So long as no stallions hurt her he'd be content to allow her such freedom. . . . And as for Ambroise, well, he couldn't help but snicker at Yei's attempt to mimic the stoic stallion.
Rolling his silver eyes, Althalus gave a gentle snort. "I don't think you were serious enough, Mom," he noted, swishing his thick red tail as good humor lined his features. "You made it look as if he actually enjoyed himself." Winking he gave a little shake of his head, pawing at the ground before turning to look upon Nivriti.
Spirits was she beautiful. . . .
How had he been so lucky?
"Just wait until you meet the rest of the family, love. We're a varied group." He warned with another little nuzzle, finding that he very much enjoyed having contact with her. He hoped she didn't feel smothered by his touch or affection but she was irresistible! So soft and lovely. . . . oh, he was hopelessly wrapped around her hoof and he adored every minute of it.
She was a treasure he just couldn't lose.
Looking back upon Yei, Althalus gave a little snort as she teased him. "I wasn't that terrible," he defended himself, albeit a bit poorly and without much conviction. An easy, lop-sided smile crossed his features as he continued, "I wouldn't be doing my job as a proper son if Father wasn't rolling his eyes or finding himself with some sort of headache. I may be grown and on my own, but how long as has it been since he's grumbled about Althalus induced frustration, eh? I should most certainly make up for lost time."
A little trouble never hurt. Given, he understood his own children might very well wind up causing him grief galore . . . . but . . . . with luck they'd inherit Nivriti's personality. She was his better half, after all.

Nivriti listened quietly as Yei spoke of Althalus's siblings to him. She was almost surprised that the older mare was being so frank about her children in front of someone she'd only just met, but given what Yei had blurted out so far, it was a very small amount of surprise.
She giggled softly at the impression; yes, Althalus's brother was an opposite to him, had she met this Ambroise stallion, she would likely have still been a single mare.
'Steal me away?' Nivriti blushed again, looking from his mother to Althalus. She would like children yes, but quiet, quality and private time was something to be savoured between them.
She gave a little shiver of delight, from her nose to her wingtip as her love pressed against her once more. Nivriti would never tire of his touch she was sure. 'Mmm? I would like to meet them at some point yes,' she nodded, looking upon him with sweet eyes. 'You were a little terror then? I really do wish I'd known you as a colt,' she teased him with a small wink, and then turned away as a yawn stole upon her. She was by now feeling a tiny bit weary, but didn't want to seem rude in her tiredness.

As Althalus had said, his family were a varied group and if Nivriti were to survive among the oddballs she had best know what she was getting herself in to. Yei Umeko adored her children but made no secrets of their antics. They were who they were, warts and all. She loved each with every fibre of her body but she was aware they would be somewhat difficult to others. Killian, Althalus and Adarna wouldn't struggle quite so much given their social natures - however Ambroise... Well, he was slightly more complicated. He could socialise but the gruff stallion didn't enjoy it and you could spot this a mile off. It would take a very patient and confident mare to handle her eldest - preferrably someone who didn't want to be whisked away into a dream land of flowers and candy.
He wasn't a romantic at all.
Nevertheless as her son made reference to giving his father headaches, Yei smiled fondly. She definitely enjoyed the period in which she had raised her children. She had seen qualities in her mate she had never thought she would see. His insane patience had grown even better and even his sense of humour seemed to have adapted to the 'torture' he had received from his children. It wasn't that he was more affectionate than he already was, but he seemed to have found a strange balance between his duty and his family. Oooh and did she enjoy it!
"Well, it has been a few years since you last drove him up the wall," she pointed out softly, a warm smile on her lips. She understood that young couples were in no rush to have children, admittedly some were, but she was glad that her son had chosen to wait. "Perhaps that would be the reason that I keep nudging him into considering more.." she mused, her smile becoming almost impish. Well, if her children weren't going to give her little ones right now she was fairly certain she would encourage Grencia to give her them. He rarely said no to her...
"As for the stealing part... I should hope that Althalus will keep you very entertained. He would be a disappointment if he didn't," she raised a brow at her son and then giggled. She wasn't about to touch on subjects that really would humiliate both children. They knew what males and females did, Althalus would never forgive her if she stepped over THAT line and explained it further.
"Although that might be a little hard with me watching - eh?" She tilted her head to the side, released a soft sigh and then very slowly glanced over her shoulder. "I suspect that this would be my cue to disappear and leave the pair of you to talk, that being said I also have to locate your brother and father." Her brow furrowed with what looked like worry, a look that was quickly dismissed with a shake of her head.
"Just promise me you won't vanish for years again Althalus. I know you are a wanderer but your mother still likes to make sure you're safe - you know?" Again she gave a bemused smile and stretched her legs in preparation to move. "And Nivriti, you should never be a stranger either..."

Althalus canted his head at Yei, ears pricking forward as she spoke of desiring more children. Silver eyes lit up as his good humored smile broadened at the idea; he wasn't ready to be a parent himself but on the other hand he was rather keen on the idea of more siblings. To be a big brother was quite appealing - he didn't see much of his siblings even when he wasn't wandering. A few new faces might very well bring the family together, even if it were only for a short time. "Well then I will wait with baited breath for the day I get to play big brother. It would do the woods some good to have a few more mini-terrors running around and kicking up trouble." Yei would have to know that her son would be the one leading his baby siblings in to such trouble and probably wind up causing half of it himself.
Some stallions just plum didn't change. . .
Thankfully for Althalus there were parts of him that had and for the best; but some parts of the sunset male, like his penchant for adventure and games, would never change no matter how old. Heaven forbid he dally long enough at home to be reunited with Aiolos and Caelyndei else the Islagiatt herd would really be in trouble.
Snorting softly, Althalus tossed his mother a look that was both wickedly bemused but just a hair incredulous. He knew what she was getting at, as innocent as her words seemed, and her giggle most certainly didn't help her case! Entertained indeed. Shaking out the bangs from his features, the stallion snorted and pawed at the ground. "Oh, I have ever intention of keeping her entertained, amused and otherwise deleriously happy, Mother. You needn't worry about that - your son isn't one to disappoint," he reminded with a rueful and boyish grin.
As long as he could his life had taken on a path to love, adore, and support Nivriti. She had become the center of his world and he would do anything to keep her golden eyes bright and a smile upon her features. He would do what he could to make her laugh and make sure she had everything she wanted and deserved. His life wasn't his own any longer; the choices he made from here on out were only and forever for her.
Though she was polite about it, Althalus wasn't one to overlook his beloved's yawn. The poor mare had to be absolutely beat, especially as unaccostomed to walking as she had been! The journey from her homelands to his was long and for awhile he did envy his family that were blessed with wings; not because he wanted them to use or show off, but because if he HAD them he might have made this journey far more easily for Nivriti than he had. But she had been wonderful the entire trip and had walked with him every step of the way.
How lucky a stallion was he...
"I do think we're going to take some time to relax and recouperate. The journey from her homelands to here was quite the walk," he explained, moving away from Nivriti to bridge the distance between his mother and himself. Reaching Yei, he nuzzled her affectionately, wrapping his neck arunder her own in a great embrace and cherishing the affection. Oh, he always had a soft spot for his silly mother, and he would forever adore her and Grencia. He truly loved all in his family, even Ambroise whom he couldn't wait to see if only to pick upon him.
Speaking of which, after his embrace he did look down and tilt his head. "Father and Ambroise out patrolling today?" He questioned, oblivious to the war that had infiltrated Islagiatt. Yes, he was out of the loop when it came to the news but he'd catch up with everything soon enough. With luck, as far as Althalus were concerned, he could find all of his siblings and introduce Nivriti to each one of them.
Oh, how little he knew.

Nivriti blushed even harder; his mother was a terrible tease! She nodded, and finally found her tongue.
'It might be at that, yes.' she giggled, looking between Yei and Althalus. Of course the thought of alone time itself made her heart race as well. Not that she'd thought of nothing else, oh no! But that was a tempting thought on top of everything else.
'I hope very much I won't be.' Nivriti walked a few paces forwards in Althalus's wake, and dropped into a bow again, her wings unfurled as she did so. 'It was a great pleasure to meet you Yei.' she said, standing upright once again, and stepping one pace back, quietly listening to her love and his mother talk of family matters.

Ah, Yei was well aware of the importance of private time between a couple. She had intruded upon them long enough and had teased her son to a sufficient level. While he made reference to family matters she could touch upon them at a later date. There was no need to place the seed of worry in her son on such a joyous day. He had just introduced his mate to her, had come home for the first time years and with such a glow about him! To place the weight of the world upon him was inappropriate. Thus, Yei had made the very firm decision to carry that burden alone in order to ensure that his happiness was preserved.
He needed to stay optimistic, his colour need not dull with news of the current drama of Islagiatt. He had gone to explore and see the world, he had seen it and fallen in love. His mother simply couldn't hope for anymore than that except to hear those giggles of children. Of course, it was with this in mind that she offered one of her kindly smiles and shook her head. It was a soft shake but spoke volumes in regards to her answer to his question. She had no intention of dismissing him or ignoring his question but it was an indication that it was a matter to be discussed at another time.
"They are otherwise engaged," she confirmed gently and offered a chuckle. "But I should think you should spend more time with your lovely ate there than worry too much about your family!" Another chuckle and she tilted her head to one side, "We will talk later, alright?"
