Letter laughed a little as watch swooped around her. "Not quite yet." She decided out loud. "No I'll keep thinking." She said, and thought hard again. "A storm?" She asked after a while. "Lots of people say, 'the eye' of a storm... That's all I can really think of at the moment." Admitted Letter. She was well and truly stumped on this one. "What is it?" She asked Watch as he flew around her.

"A potato," Watch said. "I didn't know it myself until I heard the joke, but those little holes in the potato that sprout roots are called eyes! And potatoes have lots. Wierd, huh?" Watch didn't gloat. He didn't even feel the urge to; he just wanted to have fun. "That was a hard one; I haven't seen a potato up close myself."

"I had no idea, I certainly wouldn't have gotten that one." Said Letter. It was a nice feeling knowing the answer to the riddle, it was terrible when the challenger would not reveal it to you. "You learn a new thing every day don't you?" Said Letter smiling. "A potato with eyes." She laughed, "Now there's a funny thought." She said flying closer to Watch. She was really enjoying thier time together, just travelling, talking and having a bit of fun.

"Oh! Time has flown faster than we have! I-- and I'm very glad to say it-- I'm home!" Watch sped down to the trees below, still not straying too far from Letter. "My sign!" Watch said, landing on a sign that read 'WATCH FOR BEARS'. Behind the sign was a very handsome tree with a hollow in it. Inside was clearly a neat nest with a small stash of nuts inside.
"Probably it's infested with pesky bugs by now," Watch said, more to himself than to Letter. "But at least the squirrels have left it alone. I am proud to say, welcome to my home!" Watch spread one wing in the direction of the tree, welcoming Letter to enter.

"Oh it's wonderful." Said Letter as she landed on one of the higher branches and began to admire it, "A very nice and neat little home you have made yourself." She looked at the sign and her smile widened. "It's got yer name on it and everything. Definitely a place to call yer home. It looks so cozy." She turned away from the handsome tree to Watch. "If you'd like some help tidying it from bugs I'm more than happy to help." She offered kindly. Letter liked being kind, helping others and cheering them up. It was part of her job being an entertainer, and also just a part of her nature. It gave her some sense of purpose to life.

"Oh, that would be wonderful," Watch said gratefully. It could take a long time to get bugs out of a hollow that's been left alone, as Watch knew very well. The first time he entered the hollow, it had taken him several hours to be sure that it was insect-free. It would be a tragic thing for a bird to sleep in an infested place; the bugs would hide in one's feathers, and possibly bite them and spread disease. Other than that, lice and fleas were SO annoying.
Watch flew into the hollow and found a pincher bug on his nest. Watch promptly snapped it up and swallowed it down. They didn't taste great, but they had to go somewhere. Plus, eating while working gave enough energy to finish. "I think that we're safe from the tiny nasty things, like fleas, because they just aren't around this forest. But pincher bugs and roly polies, and centipedes are just awful. But, at least they're edible," Watch said the last bit grimly. He didn't like eating bugs. Not a bit. If they bugs weren't killed, they would only come back. And it was just barbaric to kill without purpose! So they had to be eaten.
Watch looked sideways at Letter. Probably, she had had to clean, so she would understand the necessity of eating the vermin. But... Probably, that would be a disgusting act to her as much as it was to Watch. It was not very polite to make your guests clean, Watch knew, so he said, "Of course, you don't have to do this if you don't want to. You're my guest here, so I want you to remain comfortable," Watch laughed and continued, "Plus, I'd like you to come again! Honest, this place doesn't usually have bugs."

Letter cooed softly with laugher. "Oh no no, please don't yer worry now. And I believe yer when yer say yer don't normally have bugs as visitors. I myself am used to clearing them up, it happens to even to most tidy of us." She said as she picked out a small spider from the nest's lining and swallowed it quickly. Of course it didn't taste nice but it got the job done. "Springtime's the worst, when there are loads of bugs hatching and finding homes in other pidge's beds, but when we pidge are together, we can help each other. Two beaks are better than one." She said cheerily as she swiftly picked out an ant making its way to the back of the nest.

"Oh dear..." Watch said as he lifted a beakful of bedding, only to find a small colony of insects gathered there. "Well, this will be of no use to me." Watch pushed his nest right out of the tree and watched it smash to the ground. The bugs-- the ones that survived-- flailed their legs and crawled in separate directions, headed for holes. None attempted to reclimb the tree. "That takes care of most of them," Watch said with satisfaction. The stragglers were doomed.
Watch's beak clipped over so many bugs, he was sure that his insides were literally crawling with legs. The idea was quite unpleasant. At last, the dirty work of collecting and consuming bugs was over. "Thank you so much for helping me," Watch said gratefully to Letter. It would've been a huge pain to do it all himself. "And I'm glad that they all left my nuts alone; I collected them earlier. Before the storm..." Watch knew that it would be good manners to offer a guest some food, but the bugs had surely filled Letter up to the brim. Instead, Watch said, "I guess I just need to make a new nest, and I'll be set." Watch's nest were really more like a mishapen mass that somewhat resembled a circle. Then, males didn't need the proper nests that females on eggs had. Watch simply had his nest for comfort, rather then sitting all night on hard wood.

"No trouble at all." Said Letter with a smile, "And collecting sounds like a good idea to me if you're out here where there's more wood than town." She paused for a moment looking down at the doomed nest and the bugs wriggling themselves out of it. "I suppose there's not much of that nest we can save." She said with a sigh, "They may have laid eggs. Well, if you like I'll search for some things to help you with a nest if you like? I've had quite a bit of experience." She offered. The cotton mill was always a wonderful place to find soft nest linings. The most impressive one she had seen had to be Cotton's, lined with all sorts of different colour cotton.

((When did Letter see Cotton's nest? Cotton is from Baker's... Oh well.))
"Oh, that would be wonderful," Watch said graciously. "But you've already done so much..." He glanced at the near-empty hollow. "Although... If you collect some nesting material, and I get some food, it would really help put me on track after being away so long." Without thinking, Watch added, "With us working together in this one tree, it's almost as if we're--" Watch cut himself off abruptly, realizing what he was saying. "Never mind," he said curtly. If his feathers had not been there to cover his face, Letter would have seen Watch blushing furiously, completely mortified at what he had been about to say.
"Right... Nuts. Seeds... And I can also help with the nest," Watch mumbled. "Sticks and moss... Right, then..." Watch felt that he wanted to leave and escape his embarrassment just then, but his manners prevented him from doing so. Awkwardly, "So... Shall we go? I'm so grateful for all your help... How can I ever return the favor?"

(Goodness! My mistake, I thought she was from Ma's because of the cotton like there is in the mill sweatdrop Um, let's just say she flew over the bridge once as a fledgeling lol. Just ignore it xd )
Letter realized where he had been venturing with his sentence. She too would have been blushing like crimson fury, however she couldn't help her heart giving a small flutter of inappropriate joy. We are friends. That's simply the way it is. Time, there is always time. She tried to remind herself, but couldn't help but smile in surprise. Watch was such a wonderful pidge, with impeccable manners and charm. Letter knew how to behave properly and kindly, which she liked to do as well as having fun. But she wouldn't call herself pretty like other pidge. She was heavier built, without all of the graceful curves. She couldn't help but feel very self concious at a time such as this, but she tried to push it aside. She may make Watch feel uncomfortable. "No trouble at all. I'd be happy to help yer." Said Letter trying to sound calm, different from her racing heart sending her mind in spirals. "Meetin' you is enough of a favour for me, and havin' this wonderful time." She said with a gentle smile, and she truly meant it. She saw watch as a very good friend and enjoyed being together with such a calm and clever soul. The work had been to help him, which she was all too happy to do. "Watch. Will I see you again after this?" She asked after an anxious pause. He didn't live close to any flocks, and he was probably more happy out in his tree as it was. She wouldn't interfere with that.

Watch noted with mild surprise that his face felt very hot, and his stomach was clenching like a fist. As for his heart, well... He wasn't sure what was wrong with it. When Letter asked her question, Watch stumbled to reply, "If-if you'd like me to..." Watch paused awkwardly, then continued, "I'd really like to see you again... Maybe..." Watch stopped again. This time he needed to take several deep breaths to calm down enough to continue. "I'd like to see you all the time," Watch said quietly.
Briskly, Watch changed the subject before he could embarrass himself more. "Well, The nesting materials are abundant around these trees; they're nice and dry at the moment, so getting sticks won't be a problem; there are some fairly new trees the have their sticks still slightly bendy, which would be very nice. Spongy, but dry moss are plentiful on rocks at a stream, which is just a ways east. There may be a few bugs in the moss, but nothing too bad. They won't lay their eggs in the moss, so all that needs to be done is to shake them out. I can get the mud to hold the nest together, which is also by the said stream." Watch stopped to give Letter a chance to catch up, for Watch had been speaking a bit faster than normal to change the subject. "... And I can pick up any nuts and berries I find on the way," Watch finished, more slowly.
Nervously, Watch looked at Letter to see how she would react. Would she dislike Watch for changing the subject so obviously? Did she think that Watch was trying to flirt, and was appalled at that? Watch hoped not. He hadn't meant to flirt at all. He wanted friends... And you had to be careful what you said and did to friends of the opposite gender. One slip-up, and they could take it the wrong way... Watch shook his head. No, nothing like that will happen. Don't think about it. Watch sternly told himself.
(( This is fun. XD ))

(It sure is. Let's just not give the poor little pidge heart attacks, Lol.)
Letter had not been at all offended by what Watch was saying or the change of subject. She felt somewhat ashamed of herself for putting him on the spot like that, and for a moment thinking of something that there would not be. It was wonderful to know Watch. This was most certainly not a time to be selfish just because of her heart. At the time her heart was literally jumping in her chest like a startled rabbit at Watch's comments, and she herself had to take some very deep (she hoped unnoticeable) breaths to calm herself. Come on now Letter! Pull yourself together, he probably didn't mean it in that way at all. Just calm, you will see him again someday after this, besides he said so. He said all the-... No! Behave! She drummed into her thoughts with some difficulty. It was astonishing all of this thinking and talking to herself in her head in a few seconds flat. She calmed herself with the fact it was not goodbye forever after this. But in how long... Letter wrenched herself back into reality after listening to Watch's talk, and gave Watch her most reassuring grin to show that everything was perfectly normal. Oh that was terrible. You're painfully bad at having to lie. Now he's going to think he offended you! She thought right after pulling it. "Right, um, er, brilliant!" She exclaimed with a flurry of wings. "Um, brilliant that you know so much and everything we need, brilliant. That kind. I'll go search now." She said and flew out of the tree maybe a little too quickly. Not because of Watch, but because she felt she had made a complete fool of herself. "Oh Watch I'm sorry for being such a silly scatter-brained pidge like that." She moaned quietly to herself, unsure if Watch could her her from there. She would never be able to forgive herself if she had spoiled everything.

Watch stood in utter distress as Letter suddenly disappeared. He did not hear her quiet moan as she flew away. "Oh, I've made a mess of things," Watch told himself in dispair. He quickly pulled himself together. "No, she's going to come back, because she just left to help me... She's going to come back... She will..." Each time he said it, it seemed more and more unlikely.
Pull yourself together, you dope, he said firmly to himself. I've never felt so out of place before. Must be because I've been alone in this tree so long and am still not used to being with other pidge... That must be it. But, even as he thought it, Watch knew that the statement was not true. He had mingled just fine with other pidges before now.
Watch fretfully tugged on one of his feathers without realizing what he was doing. Stopping himself, he suddenly remembered that there was work to be done, and he promptly set out to do it. The flying gave him a sense of purpose, and helped him calm down. Now it was just like any other day.
((We can skip ahead to after they're done gathering, if you want. If that's what you want to do, then they can be back in the hollow together.))

(Alright :3)
About ten minutes later Letter flew up to the tree for the last time with another twig in her mouth. It was the kind that was rather smooth and would bend like Watch had said. It was never comfortable to have bits of wood sticking and poking you while you were trying to fall into a comfortable sleep. She layed down it with the other assortment of gathered twigs and moss (bug free) that would soon make up Watch's nest. By chance she hadn't yet passed Watch while flying up and down to the hollow, and was beginning to worry even more so. She tired to calm her nerves. Don't worry, he's probably just found a good spot for berries. You didn't make him that uncomfortable... Did you? Letter ruffled her feathers slightly, to try and become clear minded once more. In all her life she had to say she had never worried so much over one pidge's reactions and what he might think of her. It hadn't really mattered, but for some reason. This was different. Watch mattered a lot to her, but she knew she should not assume things that may never be. It was a first meeting. She should be happy, which she was. She was over the moon, but now also feeling rather sick with worry. She turned towards the pile of material yet to be sorted. There seemed to enough for a nest. Now just to wait for Watch. If he came back. She peered anxiously over the side of the hollow.
