UPDATE
New Essences added include: Iron Fleece, Heart of the Sea, Abandoned Life, Black Heart, Healing Omen, Weightless Feather, and Unlucky Rabbits foot, as well as a few unnamed brainstorms. About 90% of these Essences were inspired by Kaurii helping me ;__; so nice <3

I'd have to say my favorite is abandoned life. The concept is intriguing. I wonder what type of powers etc. would accompany it.
I was thinking a bit about your fear concept conundrum.
If you go with the melody idea, I think it's not enough of a contradiction and might step on Melisande's toes. There's nothing essential about a melody that it would calm. Therefore a melody could create fear. If one were to hear a melody and be afraid, they would just assume that it's a scary melody, no?
I think a shapeshifting fog would be the best idea like you have down, but where's the contradiction. Fear is the main point you're trying to get across. What are some things that do not bring fear for anyone? What give a euphoria naturally, but could be twisted to inspire fear?
Terrifying giggles? Horrific kisses? Fear-bringing rainbows?
Obviously those wouldn't work, but you get my point. (Unless it would look like something pleasant further away and as you got closer distort into the image of your greatest fear).
I like the fear concept the best because powers could work so well with it. But some things are not easily worked out. Of your other ideas, the abandoned life sounds the most awesome and I'd love to see it more fleshed out!

Hmm, let's start...
Mirage of Fear: I still am partial to your fear essence due to my horror junky ways. However, there are ways it could be made into a more solid and 'contradicting'. As Yuurei suggested, taking a usually joyous object and giving it the power to induce fear is a wonderful idea. As far as natural objects go, I can only think of flowers. Shu is made of fail right now! Maybe a seed that can 'grow' into your deepest fears instantaneously and feeds off of that emotion in order to 'bloom'...;;
I also like the idea of a smoke that can hold a tangible form. That is interesting. Perhaps, it could change to each individual's fears? As you come closer the fog grow thicker? *starts shooting out random ideas*
I don't like the ideas of the melody or eye. The eye seems to be confusing and well... some melodies are terrifying.
Iron Fleece: I have seen this essence in someone else's quest thread. I'm not sure who, but I know that I have seen it. D:
Heart of the Sea: Oh my goodness, I love the idea that a simple, inanimate object has been changed into something more complex.
Abandoned Life: Interesting... blood trying to live without a body. Try to develop this one more too. It is starting off pretty well. Like, where did the blood come from and will this affect your raevan?
Weightless Feather: It is okay, but it seems like the exact opposite of Keirro's half-ton feather concept...;;
Unlucky Rabbit's Foot: Definitely a contradiction, but kind of bland. Although, I can see my raevan looking at the essence and going: "HOLY CRAP!!! What did you do to my mom. D:<" *shot for being random*
Overall, I must say that my favorites are 'mirage if fear', 'hearts of the sea', and 'abandoned life'. I hoped this helped. D:

Rearranged the Essences and added one more. I'd like the Featured to have the most attention paid to them, and they will probably fluctuate as I get more interested in/develop each Essence.
Also, if possible, I'd like some power suggestions, as well as suggestions on how each Essence could make the Raevan feed. If there's no good feeding or power possibilities, then the Essence immediately fails and I'll remove it.
Thanks guys for the newest critiques, I'm still really undecided, though, and I need some more help thinking of powers/ways to feed specifically for the Abandoned Life if you guys want to see it possibly get used D:

Okay, so, um... I think the Healing Omen is my favorite fel essence you have up right now - it's a nice and simple concept with a very wide range of possibilities to go with it. o3o
I'm also a bit sad that you've back-burnered Mirage of Fear, so I'm going to go ahead and try and suggest something here. XD; How about playing on the name of the fel essence? You have something you think is innocent and nice, but when you have it around too long it starts having a paranoid-hallucination-inducing Eternal Darkness sort of effect. Instead of the thing itself being scary, it could cause the environment to become your worst nightmare, and you soon realize it's the harmless little daisy in that jar doing it because it's the only thing in the room that isn't out to get you.
EDIT: Sorry I don't have anything to say on Abandoned Life. :ca I'm just not very good with body-part type essences... but maybe it could be trying to form itself into living structures, so once in a while you'd see a primordial little hand pressing up against the vial? o.o

;A; Ahhh, helpful, helpful. I put it on the backburner to think of things just like that, too, Mouse, but nothing particularly came to my mind as really innocent. I still don't think I'll go with a flower, but now that I've got really simple things like that on my mind, I'm sure I'll come up with something and it'll be back up front, probably even above the others. I'm really avoiding flowers because I'd like to avoid a plant-based Raevan, if at all possible, but if it turns out that it does become floral, so be it c:
You've got the imagery going on it my head for the Life >w< eeheee~ so gross.
I'll try and refine the Life, Omen and definitely think of more stuff for Fear :'D gotta find innocent things.. >w< hmmm~ -might go around asking what very simple things they find "innocent"- S'what I was trying to do before but with minimal results, though I only asked a few people... xD
Thank you again <3

Well, I was only using the daisy as an example because it's the first thing that came to mind. XD It's an easily recognized symbol of innocence.
And keep in mind that it wouldn't end up making the Raevan plant-based. XD Since the soul affects the design more than the fel essence does, its appearance would take more from a bat if you keep that soul. So, it might be more worth it to think of an 'innocent' object that has colors you'd want incorporated into the design - having the essence be a little white butterfly would make the Raevan white, but it wouldn't get butterfly wings and antennae. Otherwise I think Dayo could have ended up with, like, cloud-afro hair... o_O

Nnh o.o true that. I thought I remembered Kyou saying that the Essence, if a plant, would also make the Raevan plantish? Like Eiry D: but I guess he's different? I dunno. That's all my concern is xD
Mmmbut yes... colors, colors >w< I'll have to give this some deep thought ;A; I was really hoping for the bats original colors [at least for his hair, wouldn't bright orange hair on and otherwise dark being be pretty cool looking?] but we'll see. I'll resign myself to pondering Raevan colors and innocent things all today for this Essence :'D luckily I've got the time for it, too~

The soul can also influence the colors to an extent in some cases - Dayo's a pretty even mix between the two, seeing how the brown tones in her soul 'color' can be seen in her hair, wings, and some accessories. ouo Vyn has red hair from her rose soul, and Tariel has lots of gold from her angel soul. Also, if the fear base is a more important part of the fel essence than the possible plant base, I wouldn't expect to see much in the way of plant-inspired design elements.
There's also no harm in tossing up some suggestions on the Raevan's appearance. o:

Ahh -nods- Very reassuring >w< thank you, that makes a lot more sense now! Okay. Worst case, I will definitely go with just a flower, but even then, like you said, it'll still work perfectly for this :'D -calm now- Excellent.
Yeh, I remembered all the colorations after I posted and then felt stupid xD gah. Ah well. I'm doodling up a tiny Raevan base in Paint and I'm going to try and throw some different color variations onto it. I don't really have anything in mind for the appearance, really, especially not any sort of clothes, so it'll be all on Kyou or Ray ;A; but I think it'll come out much better that way~ just the hair would be so awesome orange fffff -kind of obsessed with that idea at the moment-
I'll keep asking around and adding some different types of innocent items to the MoF on the front page, see if nothing extra special comes up <3

Yeah I'm thinking a Daisy or a White Lilly for your Mirage. There's only two raevans that have a flower type in their concept and both are the same. The Frozen Rose and then the Soul of a Rose.
Oh... You could go with a Dandylion weed. I loved the little guys when they sprout their seeds. I'd call them wishing flowers (Thinking that they were different plants from the weed itself for the longest time for some obscure reason. It didn't click that the plant was in the same place as the one before it.). You take a deep breath, wish and then blow them off in hopes that the little seeds carry your wish to fruitation. Ah... fond memories. heart

Mouse helped me conjure up a new Essence and revise an old one! Please concentrate any critique on these two in the Featured Essence area now, especially the first one <3

Hm, the chrysalis sounds like it has potential! Empty, but with no signs of how its inhabitant got out? OR IF IT EVEN HAD AND INHABITANT?! *play twilight zone music* *shot* XD Also, the abandoned life is even better than it was before--it now has the contradiction of death that wants to keep on living. And for some reason I particularly like the healing omen essence owo;;; *fails at actually critiquing* And.... um.... howmuchcouldIpayyoutogetoneofthosegorgeouspixelgifsforoneofmyessences DX *MURDERED*

Um.... maybe a story about someone who was thrown into the street to die in bygone days because of disease/injury, saw an eerie crow and thought s/he was doomed, but then the feather that landed on them when the crow flew away healed them? I dunno XD
