Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth. he has written everysingle opeth song..and they arent just songs..they are compositions. of absolute beauty and dark mystery. the man walks into the studio..with all the songs in his head..every solo. every drum riff..every bass rythm..hes a prodigy..and idc if hes not "fast" at guitar. or "brutal" he plays with more passion and emotion than anything ive ever seen.
btw...i hate it when people say angus young is a GREAT guitar player...he plays blues scales......that a 3 year old can play...no offence..hes doing his own thing..people just over rate him.

Gazlowe Rircyn Why isn't Randy Rhoads on that list? why would randy rhoads be the best? Because Randy Rhoads turned the song "Paranoid" into a classic. It was thought to be a crappy album filler. But nope its a classic.

Gazlowe Rircyn Why isn't Randy Rhoads on that list? why would randy rhoads be the best? He's one of the most influential guitarists in rock history. Seriously... George Lynch is on your list, and not Randy Rhoads, or Neil Schon, or Van Halen, or any number of guitarists who Lynch is not feet to lick the boots of... ...and don't even get me started on Kirk Hammett. ^_^

ya. you can't ever name someone the "best guitarist" because everyone has a different style and technique. my favorite is still satriani. he has made the best melodies on guitar and is still known as the most vocal guitarist.

limeyman It's not like I don't love the classics like Hendrix or Clapton, but I prefer newer music. Imma have to say Tom Morello. I know I'll probably get flamed, but eh. Just know that I am a fan of the classics. They just don't suit my tastes or influence me as much as modern day stuff. I'm not saying Morello or RATM are anything fresh or anything, but they're from my generation at least. RAGE POWA!!!

zakk wylde, dimebag darrell, stevie ray vaughn, eric clapton, jeff beck, b.b. king, freddie king, albert king, eric johnson, billy gibbons. there are just so many people who have had just as much influence as jimi has. who inspired jimi? bob dylan did! his songs hit people, just like jimi's...but to say that any one person has the title best...idk. we all get moved in different ways by different genres. i am a blues guy, but when i hear "always with you always with me" by Joe Satriani...i have to pick up my guitar and play along....so i guess we can only ask who is the best guitarist in your world.

Paul Gilbert completely destroys Michael Angelo, except in the department of cheesy 80's gimmicks. Anyways, Allan Holdsworth, TJ Helmerich and Shawn Lane completely dominate everyone on that list. Not to mention there are a lot of more modern European guitarists that completely own those guys too (Richard Daude, Gianluca Ferro, Stephan Forte, etc.) and some lesser known American guys like Max Dibble, Terry Syrek, Shane Gibson and the whole Berkley shredder scene. Anyways, if you're just going off sheer technicality and melodic ability, many of the guitarists on that list couldn't compete with some of the more modern chops monsters. Plus there are some amazing guys from the 80's that aren't on that list (George Lynch made it). Maybe you want to add Jason Becker, Marty Friedman, Vinnie Moore, Greg Howe or Ritchie Kotzen? That's cool though, I like a lot of older stuff too and just because it's not insane shred doesn't mean it's not good guitar playing; and really it's all personal preference in the first place. However, I chose my selections based on guitar ability and being able to do things that other guitarists can't.

Gazlowe Rircyn Why isn't Randy Rhoads on that list? why would randy rhoads be the best? because he played crazytrain and when he played for ozzy he didnt like the dairy of a madman solo so randy told all the guys to stay out of the music studio and wen ozzy came back he was literally knocked off of his feet randy rhoads was a musical genious and the ONLY person who could ever compete with jimi hendrix

There are many guys on a superior technical, rhythmic, and melodic level. What about Django Reinhardt? The two fingered jazz guitarist from the 30's and 40's; he could outplay even the best gypsy jazz guitarists and they had full usage of their hands!

Need your Love so BadEDDIE HAZEL IS A BADASS AS WELL Maggot BrainOr What about Ry Cooder one of the Greatest Slide Players!! Poor ManKudos to whoever mentioned Robert Fripp mrgreen But I dont think ANYONE can write more badass epic solos than Glen Tipton Check out Beyond the Realms of Death, Its my Favorite solo of ALLLL TIME. Beyond the Realms of DeathI dont see why everything has to be like a ladder. We should all just accept that there are endless amounts of amazing guitar players, and i love everyone, everyone has their own tastes and opinions.

It blows my mind EVERYTIME i hear it, and it was completely on accident, just a total improv thing, He couldnt even remember how he played it so he had to go back and listen to it so he could learn it haha But yes, I would say Randy Rhoads, Jimi Hendrix, Phil Keaggy, anddd Ritchie Blackmore are my favorites.
