Celebor followed after Amdir and Donovan casually but alertly, watching everything that was going on, listening in to their conversation to see what he could learn, and trying to pick up how everything was done there, how everything and everyone worked together. He wanted to prove that he wouldn't be a hindrance, but a help.

"Gifts can be unique," Haradhel nodded thoughtfully, "but ... usually they are inherited from the parents. In the cases of both Ahren and Arwen, though, their gifts are unique - except for Ahren being an elemental summoner, like myself."

Her eyes shifted over to Arwen thoughtfully. "I really have no idea what's going on," she murmured. "Really ... it's rare enough to have one gift that neither parent has, but to have two that neither parent has ... is ... unheard of, really."

Arwen grinned at Miyu. "Oh, I see," she nodded. "So that he's not always sleepy, right? Like when he was here last time, he was sleepy a lot whenever he wasn't with other people, right?"

She was a little confused as to why that was - of course, she had been too young last time to understand the entire explanation.

Aliya smiled at Kara and Haradhel, then added, "It sort of makes me anxious to see what my children's gifts are going to be. Adanedhel is at the age where he should be manifesting any time, now, he's the same age Arwen was the last time you were here, Kara, and I'm sure you remember how it was for her."

She laughed softly. The poor child had been terrified of her gift until Aragost, of all people, had helped her out.

"So how have things been on your end, Donovan?" Amdir asked brightly. "Surely there must be some news from your life in Gaia."

Adanedhel pursed his lips thoughtfully as he looked at the cookie in his hand. "Well ... Papa does different things sometimes," he shrugged finally. "I dunno. Ara-kun says everybody's different. He's real smart, you know, he knows just about everything." He nodded matter-of-factly. "Real smart."

Kara nodded, "It is always interesting when they begin to manifest... and it's always a story to pull out when they're older."

Though she had to admit it was curious that the gifts were very different in Haradhel and Elrohir's children. Then again she didn't know how the gifts worked so...

"So either..." she told Haradhel, "It is quite the chance that there are two, or perhaps there is something back further in the family tree..."

It was tempting to joke and say Haradhel should try again and see.

Miyu nodded, "Yea, Grandpa's cousin said that Toshi should be with someone who is young so as they grow up that other person becomes stronger magically enough for the both of them."

There was also more to it, but she didn't understand that part.

Donovan chuckled, with the time difference that was very hard to say. There was of course Shiro.... though he was around even on the last visit, no wait.. he wasn't.

"Hmm.... I don't know if I've mentioned about Shiro to Haradhel and Elrohir yet, he's Kaito's brother, which makes him Celebor's brother too really," he grinned at that.

Lin nodded, she understood that Aragost was old as she already knew. Pretty much the three people in her life that as far as she knew, knew everything (though Aragost topped the list of knowing pretty much everything).

"Yea, I figured," Lin murmured wondering absently if she could keep Adan from using chan on her.

Celebor broke into a wide grin at the mention of his newest brother. He liked how he was a good impression on Kaito, the boy needed it. Silvrendir was also glad of his presence - rumour had it, Silver had actually broken Kaito's wrist while Celebor had been gone, to stop him from playing rough with Idhril. Everyone felt that the danger of that happening again was just about zero now that Shiro was around.

"Elrohir claims not on his side," Haradhel replied softly, and then her expression hardened and her tone grew the slightest bit cooler: "As for my side, I don't know and don't particularly care to."

A moment later a look of chagrin crossed her face. "I'm sorry," she apologized, "that was rude of me. I ... should probably warn you, I'm a bit touchy on the subject of my family. They ... were not good to me while I lived with them, so."

Arwen blinked innocently at Miyu. "But I thought you have strong magic," she pointed out. "You gave me frostbite that one time, and you can do lots of neat things!"

Aliya reached out and put one hand comfortingly on Haradhel's arm. "On the other hand," she smiled, trying to smooth things over, "magic is alive, it grows with its user, so perhaps it's just a spin off of something else that happened, or for that matter it could be a reaction to something in the area, or something in their futures. My grandmother," she continued to explain, turning to Kara, "my father's mother, used to be a gift-giver for the elves, until gifts became natural once more. I never met her, but he says that she could see a bit of the future of each child to whom she gave their gifts - perhaps the innate magic does the same."

Adanedhel grinned, his eyes glowing brightly all of a sudden. "Are you gonna come with me and Ara-kun today?" he asked Lin eagerly. "He said he might take me up on a mountain for my lessons today!"

Amdir chuckled softly at Donovan. "Well, I haven't heard of him," he affirmed. "It sounds like your family just keeps on growing, doesn't it?"

His smile grew warm. "Aliya and I have discussed having more children, but for the moment we've decided to wait until the twins are a bit older. We don't want to rely on Shael for everything, after all, she does have her own life to live."

Kara nodded, "It is fine, and Aliya you could be right about that. Well... either way, they are very useful gifts to have."

In which to say, to simply know what the gifts were, was all that mattered really.

Miyu hadn't thought about it like that, and it would not have occurred to her father or to her uncle to see if she would be able to do just that, "I don't know," Miyu admitted, "I'm still learning."

Donovan chuckled at that, "Yes... that would probably be wise, the children grow fast for the most part, so... in a way. In a very odd way Kara does wait for the children to be older before taking on another.... most of the time."

And other times it just happens, as far as he knew.

She could use practice up on a mountain on the other hand she wanted to visit Elros. Though she could easily ask Aragost, but then... she had never failed to visit Elros on her first day here.

"I think I'll be seeing Elros first," Lin replied, "So probably not."

"They are indeed," Haradhel smiled, relaxed once more. "But that was their purpose: to defend and aid the elf who has their power, and even those around them. The sad thing is, if it weren't for the gifts, I'm certain that the elves would have been killed off ages ago. The humans and dwarfs, for some reason, have always tried to get rid of us, even allying themselves together against us, which ... is rare. Nearly unheard of."

Arwen shrugged. "So am I," she asserted, "but even Aragost says life is a learning experience, that you never stop learning 'til you die. If you die."

She paused, pursing her lips thoughtfully. "I don't think I want to die," she pronounced solemnly. "I like it here."

Amdir chuckled. "Well, you can't always plan ahead, even when you're adopting," he agreed. "Look at Shael, Ulani had no idea she would be taking her in until she showed up here - and now their family is bigger by one, which they could never have planned for."

He paused. "Rumour has it, though," he murmured, "that she may not be with us for a whole lot longer."

Adanedhel nodded his head. "Okay, if you say so," he grinned. "But we're gonna go every day this week, he says, so if you wanna come another day then just tell him, okay? I think he wouldn't mind if you come with, too, he likes teaching, he says."

"You can say they're helpful," Aliya laughed, "but Mum claims that - at least one of mine anyways - is just annoying. Or was, when I was little." She grinned.

Kara wondered about that, she couldn't help but wonder why the race tensions were so much. Though she understood it was a result of the fact the races were truly different. Even she would admit it was odd though, perhaps it had to do with the fact the other two races were a minority or so it seemed here.

"Really?" she asked Aliya absently, "What did you do?"

Miyu would imagine that dying would be an unpleasant thing, but still she had never thought that way about her abilities. Still she nodded, thinking that maybe when she got home she would ask her Daddy.

Donovan frowned at that slightly, "Why not?"

He ruled out illness right off the bat just because it was elves he was talking about here. Even though Shael would always have her walking handicap it couldn't be it. So she was probably leaving, which didn't make much sense as far as he knew.

Lin, as far as she knew besides the odd question had never been taught by Aragost. That would be an interesting experience, if she could convince her mother.

"I'll do that," Lin promised.

Arwen smiled at Miyu. "What kinds of things do you learn at home?" she asked eagerly. "I mean, what kind of lessons do you take, and stuff?"
