Grateful for the interruption, Drywood straightens up - ear tufts and all, and he gives Lichen an abrupt but clearly relieved laugh. "Yes, yes indeed, most regrettable, that."

He preens his chest as the conversation veers off into the direction of Will training, but it is merely a gesture so as not to have to make any more comments. The feeling that he only barely avoided a complicated situation nags at him and makes him cautious.

Therefore, it is with some trepidadtion that he interjects:

"Yes, that would probably be a good idea. Will control is practically essential in many Tasks... but first of all we should see about that wing, shouldn't we?" With another smile meant to look encouraging, he gives the little girl a nod and turns towards his recumbent companion with an eager little hop.

"Tails, dear, come help me measure this patient!"

For a brief moment, the heavy serpe remains perfectly motionless, but then the long, muscular body slowly begins to unravel as she grudgingly complies to her Master's bidding.

The promise of Will lessons makes her incredibly happy, but she is not going to miss something happening here just because something fun will happen later. Craneberry follows every move Drywood makes with bright eyed curiosity, and then focuses her attention on Tails. The Serpe is moving forward to "measure" her, whatever that means. But it can't be dangerous, right? Since the adults are here and all it must be all right for the Serpe to "measure" her. The fledgling watches the slow but deliberate movements of the large reptile with a thrill of excitement.

"What... what is she going to do?" she whispers, since the moment seems too important to disturb with loud talking.

(OOC note razz earlyblue has permission to godmod Craneberry a little bit if it's needed when Tails measures)

O-oh... she hates this part. The mist healer stiffens, stifling the urge to flinch away from the suddenly-mobile reptile, and falls silent once more. It's so unnerving, this procedure, even if Drywood and Tails have proven time and time again to be extremely accurate. It's just... ugh. Couldn't he have found a less creepy way to measure his patients?

After taking a few deliberately casual steps away, Lichen settles down to watch. Oh... dear. The serpe does look awfully huge in comparison to little Craneberry, doesn't it.

"M...!" Drywood has only a moment to realize that he just missed a very important part of the information, and exactly enough time to fumble between trying to formulate a ) a suitable, soothing explanation or b ) a command for Tails to stop and let him explain to the little fledgling what's about to happen, for Tails to reach the girl.

Drywood watches, only a quick shifting of his feet betraying his nervousness, as the huge reptile slowly curls around little Craneberry. The smooth, powerful body coils with utmost carefulness around the soft, frail fledgling until she is securely enveloped in the Serpe's embrace. Then, even more carefully, Tails lift Craneberry's feet off the ground, by slowly sliding her tail in underneath herself.

The fledgling is lifted a mere feather's width above the ground, then promptly released. The serpe turns her black eyes on her Master.

"Two blue, three white."

Craneberry's eyes seem to grow bigger and bigger as the Serpe curls around her, but she doesn't make a sound, not even a peep. When her feet lifts the fledgling is still eerily silent, and she stays silent until she is back on the ground and Tails releases her grip. For a few heartbeats it's uncertain if the trembling fledgling will start bawling or what she will do.

"That was so cool," she finally says, her voice rising from a mere whisper to an excited squeak, "Can we do it again!"

The fledgling has not fully understood the meaning of all this, but she doesn't seem too traumatised from the experience at least.
