Sirius glared at her. Up until now, he was just having some friendly fun, but now she seemed to be openly insulting him. Why? He was, afterall, just joking about that James comment earlier. Did she not know how to let things go?

Sirius was perturbed. There was no longer that all-in-good-fun-smile on her face, and she seemed totally serious. He opened his mouth, closed it, and opened it again... only to give up what he was trying to say and adopt a surly look on his face.

He sighed. "I'm not daft enough not to be able to work out a simple charms report, nor am I too lazy to do it. I don't need help from Moony, I just simply choose to use his help to save time. It may not be the best thing to do, but he doesn't mind and I pass all the tests anyway."

"If you must know," he said, taking a breath and continuing. "I don't play with my hair to impress anyone, nor do I need help playing with it. It's simply a nervous habit, and if you were a real sleuth, you'd be able to deduce exactly what has been making me nervous lately."

After saying that, he seriously hoped that they - Lily or Moony - had not noticed the only time he really played with his hair.

Sirius glared, his lower lip twitching. 'Twas unfair to gang up on him like that, and so late at night, too! He just looked from Remus to Lily, trying not to sneer or say anything that would give away anything.

"Oh, really?" Remus asked with mock-interest, trying not to laugh at Padfoot's expense. He already had an idea of who it was, so he might as well have fun with this. "A girl, you say, Lily? Hm...which girl could it be?"

"Would Remus's question maybe pertain to that girl in your compartment on the Hogwarts Express on the way here? I think her name was Marketa? Lily, like Remus, was having fun with this. Not in a mean way, but she enjoyed teasing him for once after all the crap Sirius dished out about James, and she didn't even like him.

Remus noted his friend's discomfort. Whatever these reasons of Marketa's were, they must be something serious; Padfoot had never let a few silly reasons get in between himself and a pretty girl. It was time to drop it beforethings got violent. He reached back a hand and patted Sirius on the back. "Come on, Paddy; it's bedtime. Lily," he nodded politely, "Good night."

Once they were safely out of feminine earshot, Remus turned to Sirius. "So, you wanna tell me what's bugging you? I've never seen you this wigged out over a girl before, mate." He moved to his bed by the window and looked out at the half moon, waiting for Sirius to respond. His fingers nearly drifted to the drawer where the letter from his dad had been hastily stuffed, but he instead focused his attention on his friend.

Remus raised his eyebrows, but didn't speak until he knew what he would say.

"It's...not a furry little problem, is it?" he finally asked after a few moments. "No, forget that, that was dumb, I would know." He looked Sirius straight in the eye as he sat down on his bed.

"Are you certain she's the one? Because mate, we're sixteen. Most of the time, when we think we've found the one, we've only just found...one." He shrugged.

Remus nodded agreeably, even though he would, at this moment, say that being a werewolf was both dangerous and life-hindering. He pulled his legs up onto his bed and laid back, every intention being to close his eyes and go to sleep, but his head rolled over and he stared at his small table holding the letter from Dad with wide eyes.

"It makes perfect sense," he muttered absently, his voice slightly rougher than it had been a few minutes ago.
