High-stepping while your upper body is facing the crowd. It was a part of the routine but nobody could do it right so our BD cut it.

Marching backwards at an angle while passing a few saxophones. I nearly ran into one saxophone player a few times.

we had a lot of dangerous passthoroughs one we had to go twards the drumline and go in between them I almost got squished cuz sumtimes they were too close togther also there is a pass thorough wherer ppl had to duck under trombones a bit or b hit. only time i got hurt is when i was walking infront of a mellophone and walked into their bell only time i got hurt though it wasnt that bad and it was my fault

That's because mellophones KICK a**!

By the way... Last year the other two mellophones and I kept getting tromboned in the head when we moved in front of them... So instead of doing that we went to near the sideline and Hannah and I put our hands together and put our feet together (making a ring) and Courtney jumped through it and landed by doing a somersault... THEN after that Hannah and I had to do a MAJOR jazz run to get to our next spot... So that was the most dangerous marching move I've ever done...

Also this year we basically have to do a BACKWARDS jazz run... That isn't all that dangerous... But it isn't easy! ninja

We had to do a jazz run through auxillary while they were doing their routine. With 6-foot long poles. Not fun, not safe. Another year they had to move between us while doing a routine. And another year they had these huge heavy brown poles with yellow flags. Those things were dangerous eek

Marching band should seriously come with a warning label or something xD

Marching Backwards fast with large (almost 4 to 5) steps. While the person behind you doesn't know what they are doing and never goes fast enough

Oho! Try making a huge block with the entire band of 150 members, and pass the woodwinds through the brass at a tempo of 200-something-or-other. NOT fun. Thankfully I don't have to go in front of the trombones with my clarinet, but...

Flipping a horribly spaced form around by turning and marching back field while marching a flute. I can't put the flute down or I get docked... do you have any idea how many people I decapitated?

Ok, picture this. There's like 18 of us, each armed with a huge 7 foot long broom. And we all have to flip said broom, while walking. Once forward, once backward. You can't imagine how many times people got hit while we were learnign that. LOL

Us baritones have had to do-si-do the last couple of years in our show. That means that we have to switch places without looking too out of line and not hitting each other. We've had a couple of collisions because of it.

jazz running backwards through the tuba section is dangerous. I nearly impaled myself on a tuba the other day XD

Oh, also making a 4 inch backup with an all-but-broken ankle while having a tuba making a pass through while sideways jazz running also hurts. it's lucky that I was a freshman and a midget that year XD ducking the back of a tuba while maintaining a good horn angle is very challenging

Well this year we're doing our first competition field show in ten years,
And there have been several collisions so far.

We have a set where we move in zig-zags, and on the third zig-zag up, the about 7 clarinets completely fold in and switch sides on the diagonal. Clarinet demo derby.

And then we're moving from a bow to a hummingbird thingie and a line of bass type instruments folds out and makes a line.
I've heard screams...

And I get poked in the back by this guys clarinet.
Not too serious though.

My freshman year (I'm A junior this year) We had 32 counts, It was a back wards march at a tempo of 180... I had to move from the front yard line to 13 steps in front of the back hash, And on top of that we had to move to the right 3 yard lines...
We were booking it!

...I havent even gotten to the first game and I've already gotten hurt D=

On this one 8 count move coming out of a hold,
we have to do a 5 to 5 step backwards at an angle with a horn snap down on one ( I play trombone ;-; ) and yeah,
we kinda have a few retards in our section so they NEVER get far back enough so in turn, my section leader who marches behind me never gets back far enough so I get yelled at for not getting far enough back ( not them. me ) so when I try to get all the way back, I end up stepping on my section leader's foot, twisting my ankle as he slides back, almost fall and then attempt to make a transition to a 20 count move forwards

it is frikken crazy

its at 180 too ._.

This years marching show I play Bass drum.
So I am jazz running (more or less) 7yard lines (5yard lines backwards) in 16steps.

During Indoor we have a move called the suicide where on cymbal swings their arm out and the other has to quickly duck. I almost forgot to duck during our last show last year. The cymbal litterally cut my hair a bit. That's how close it was to hitting me.

We don't do a lot of crazy stuff. (Depending on what crazy means to you. lol) But this year, us in the low brass have one set where we're directly in front of a triangle formed by the drum line (loud as all hell) and we have to march backwards in front of them into a diagonal with the trumpets. It doesn't sound that bad, but trombones and bass drums don't mix. And it's even more aggravating when there are always two people missing in the diagonal and the trumpets can't get it right.
