Taryn ordered another pint as Mirae sat next to her. She had not yet taken off her cloak; mud and water still slowly dripped onto the floor. She had pulled the hood down and taken out her pony tail. Her dark hair fell in clumps around her face. She sipped this pint slowly, though. She enjoyed her drink, but she also knew her limits, and wasn't fond of acting like the majority of men around here.

She smiled crookedly at Mirae, "Strangers are indeed an odd sight at this time, I'm sure." She excused herself and went to hang her cloak by the fire. As she turned to walk back, she bumped into a table and quickly apologized to the men sitting there. She looked up to see the man approaching Madison. She watched, and as the tension built up she placed the hand on the hilt of her sword and began to walk to them. However, Mikhail sent him away. She grinned, and purposely walked the path around the inn that would take her near the drunk. As she passed him, she leaned close to him and whispered, "Moron." She smiled as the man looked at her in disbelief and walked back to her seat.

"So much excitement here," she said as she sat down, though not to anyone in particular. She took another drink of her ale, enjoying the lighter feeling now that her soaked cloak was off.

Lorelai was at a much more comfortable watching distance when Mikhail strode up to the offending drunk. Curious to see how Mikhail handled the situation, Lorelai stood where she was. Almost as quickly as you could blink, Mikhail had punched the drunk and threatened him off. It's just what I would have done, thought Lorelai with a wry smile. Somehow, in the hour or so she had spent with them, Mikhail and Madison had grown on her. Taryn was still rather cold, but she was also in pain. Lorelai would wait and see how she would be in the morning. She only hoped that she wasn't hung over.

As the drunk stumbled off, Lorelai joined Mikhail in comforting Madison. Turning to Mikhail, she said to him, "Are you all right? That guy was kinda rude."

Mikhail glanced over to Lorelai and smiled faintly.
"Yeah, I'm fine," he said. "Hand kind of hurts, but I'll live."

Her shoulders trembling Mirae struggled to muffle her heavy laughter behind her clenched fist, shoved so hastily against her mouth she wondered if she would have a bruise later. An entertaining lot indeed, definitely enough to keep her from boredom if she stuck around. Another fit took her as she thought of the look on Fain’s after the other man had given him the fistful. It was priceless. Her mirth almost smothered her guilt at inviting the girl; of course it wasn’t entirely her own fault. Even for Tyran fashion her dress left little to be…imagined. Not that it wasn’t beautiful, but it was nevertheless a bother when surrounded by such an—imaginative—slew of curs. She shrugged, the laughter bubbling away softly.

Mikhail’s comment suddenly sent her tumbling from her stool with a loud guffaw, and she barely managed to spin around on her toes, turning her descent into a graceful step with a wide flourish. If she hadn’t abandoned her tendency to blush at the slightest embarrassment her face would have been crimson, but at least she hadn’t landed on her tail. Ruffling her short, already wild hair, and tugging at the long tail at the base of her neck she laughed again. “Light, I haven’t seen anyone deck that blockhead for years for that very reason. Stranger’s or no I must say I have to thank you for the entertainment!” she grinned broadly despite heavy grunts at her back. She turned back to Taryn, her right eye flickering brightly between colors in her delight.

“Quite the excitement indeed friend,” she laughed tossing a few coins on the table for Elayne, who snatched them up hurriedly and filled more drinks for the travelers despite the bartender’s scowl, “I just wish I knew what I should thank for the lucky encounter, I’ve been bored stiff for weeks with everyone running scared of the Black Cat of late.” She grinned inwardly, no one seemed to want to get on her phantom self’s bad side since Tevail had shown up begging to be arrested by the city guard, and not for the first time she regretted being so harsh with the man, despite his killing spree. Then again…

Waiting, she fingered the small medallion that bore her crest, hanging on a loose silver chain with the strongest enchantments against theft and loss laced into its links. She cast a cautious eye and spotted five men slip out the door, though she could barely call it that, especially with the drink so visible in their shuffling, stumbling steps. Trouble maybe, she'd have to keep a good watch on her way out of the inn this morning. Her attention returned to the traveler's without a hint of flicker.

Mikhail's comment forced a laugh from Taryn. It was a small, coarse chuckle, not near as loud or as animated as Mirae's laughter. She slipped her hand over her mouth to attempt to cover her amusement by acting like she was wiping her mouth, but still the expression that could be seen on the visible part of her face and the flickering of color in her eyes revealed her amusement.

She turned on the stool, facing the rest of the cozy inn, and leaned back against the bar. She casted quick glances around the rest of the room. Most of the tables were empty and some had cups and plates on them. Most of the remaining men in the room were slumped over passed out due to excessive drink. A couple sat close to the fire place, betting and playing some card game. She didn't notice that man that Mikhail had planted his fist into. No one looked like they'd be any help. At least, except for the companions she'd already come across.

Taryn tilted her head toward Mirae, and squinted her eyes in thought. "The Black Cat, huh? That wouldn't perhaps be one of your names?" she asked, grinning, and knowing the answer to the question already. She span around quickly to face the bar again, and took a long drink. "I'm Taryn," she said quickly, and without much emotion, "And I'm about to go on quite the adventure..." Her voice trailed off, and she rolled her eyes over dramatically.

She clumsily stood up and motioned to the group and spoke generally, "I'm going to go sit at that table back there in the corner. Anyone who wants to join me, well, it's paid." She grinned and walked back to the corner table, and spoke over her shoulder, "And it will be lots of fun."

Madison blushed deeper, muttering a small thankyou as she smiled slightly through a bit of annoyance at herself. She hated it when others had to save her, and it happened alot. She laughed at Mikhail's comment, softly of course. She didn't need another scene.

Turning in her seat, Madison looked around at the many men in the bar. She had met most of them, her father's buisness having many clients. Though she didn't remember any of their names, she could pick out a few weekly clients.

She recognized one man and knew him well. His name was Jacob Durell, a man of only twenty years of age. He was the son of a wealthy govenor, the one who had died last year. Though Jacob did not replace his father as govenor, he still had a lot of money. Madison's father had assigned her to barter with him multiple times, mainly to not lose his buisness. Wealthy clients like him had many friends.

Jacob glanced up, smiling as he winked at her playfully. She giggled, turning back to face the bar. She called to the bartender, getting a refill of her water. She sipped at it slowly, studying the paterns in the wood of the bar.

"Nai, not one of mine though I've dreamed it often enough. That name carries more weight than gold here these days." she grinned as if imagining the thought, "Fun you say," her smile sobered as she thought it over. Perhaps it wouldn't hurt to take another job as long as it wasn't too big. "I might just take you up on that." stepping lightly she followed Taryn to the corner, pausing only to ruffle the hair of Jacob Durell playfully, a boyhood friend of Alric's who had more often than not managed to dump her into a number of fountains throughout the city. He looked disgruntled and childishly annoyed, but he was back to making puppy eyes at Madison within moments despite her turned back. Mirae's grin only widened as she wished she could have done more to embarass him without making a scene.

Sitting down at the table she sniffed. The rough, wooden chairs could hardly be called comfortable, and she found herself wishing she was lounging in one of the elegant armchairs in Alric's library, a heavy book nestled in her lap as she read it. Even the barstools were more suited to her. Leaning back she looked Taryn in the eye, her eyes all business despite her warm and playful smile. "So," she said lightly, "What kind of fun are we in for?"

The cat was on the prowl.

Taryn's offer of "fun" intrigued Lorelai, especially since she couldn't think of anything else she could do in Tyr, besides move on in maybe a week. She followed close on Taryn's heels, completely forgetting the ale that still waited for her at the bar. A couple of heads turned as she walked across the common room, but she hoped that the knives in her belt would prevent any incidents like Madison's.

Taryn smiled, almost too sweetly to be in character. She leaned in over the table towards her soon to be partners in crime (or so she liked to think), resting her arms in a crossed fashion to support her weight.

"I'm not obligated to tell you much," she said, with just a slight airiness to her voice, almost like she was teasing. She gave a small wink before continuing, "But there is monetary compensation. Generous. My benefactor has made sure of that."

She leaned back, flexing her shoulders and stretching her arms outward, trying to loosen the muscles in her back. She winced slightly, but managed to play it off smoothly, not wanting to show any pain. She pulled back her nearly dry hair, fighting with it into a ponytail while continuing with the plan.

"It probably won't actually be much fun," she confessed, almost sourly. Though whether it was because she was having difficulties with her hair or actually bitter about it, it was hard to tell. "It's just a hunt. Of a thief even," she gave a small shrug as she finished her hair. The ponytail was set off to the right side of her head, getting much of her long bangs on that side while much of her hair on the left fell around her face. She leaned back over the table, and lowered her voice to barely above a whisper, "This is an important relic, that belongs to an important person. And he wants it back."

She leaned back again and yawned loudly. She glanced around the room casually, as if she was having a conversation about the whether or some such. She noticed a some men staring at the group of ladies, but attributed it to the fact that they were just ladies sitting with male companionship and nothing more. She noticed the man making the puppy love eyes at Madison's back, while the two at the bar seemingly idly chatted from her point of view.

Turning her back attention to the two with her, she smiled and winked playfully as she crossed her arms and legs. "It should be simple," she shrugged, "so what say you?"

Mirae attempted to frown thoughtfully, put a pull at the corner of her lip betrayed a surfacing grin. "Anything that vague can hardly be simple. At least that, or you don't have a clue where your headed in your chase." she shrugged and shook her head. "I might be able to arrange something, but prior--commitments-- might get in the way of things if I don't have enough to go on. Part of the job I suppose," she paused, to consider the offer, then continued in an unusually melancholy tone, "Lot's of 'relics' have pulled vanishing acts, even here in Tyr. They're usually well warded against theft, and if they are stolen the thief is rarely unmarked when you know what to look for..." she trailed off as an idea began to form in her mind. There was no way it could be mere coincidence that relics were vanishing, but what could the purpose for it be? It could be a number of things, but for the most common it barely made sense unless someone was trying to cover up something bigger...

Her gaze had wandered toward a loud scuffling sound that seemed to come from the alley outside the inns walls. Staring she listened carefully, thumbing a small stone in her pocket as goosebumps rose along her arms. Something was happening out there, but the rune stone didn't warn of coming death. Hastily she shook her head and smiled, and for a moment she wondered if she had been glaring at the wall. "Perhaps I'll sleep on it a bit." she said as she moved to rise from her chair. The scuffling stopped and the stone remained still as she pulled her hand out and settled back down.

"How generous did you say again?" A smug grin on her face, she was the perfect image of a hooked fish as she leaned back into her chair, the front legs lifted off the ground precariously, but even a hooked fish could still wriggle away before it was tossed into the boat. Now the real bargaining began.

So. Taryn's promised 'fun' was a treasure hunt. This would be interesting indeed. Plus it meant that Lorelai wouldn't have to stay in one place, not really. The mention of monetary compensation didn't interest her much, since Lorelai could get by with nothing as long as she had her bow and quiver of arrows. But a hunt...

Then it hit her. The rumors about Lord Karazan's anger must be true, since Taryn had obviously been in a hurry to get out of Li'Mun. Someone must've stolen something from him. This spontaneous urge or calling or whatever it was that had pulled her out onto the streets only a few hours ago was definitely looking more and more like a good thing. Lorelai was quite intrigued now, and she only had one question for Taryn:

"When do we start?"

Madison sat at the bar for a while longer, playing with the cup of water. She was bored, but would rather face every guy in the bar than her father. He would just either send her away to 'find someone else to bother' as he put it, or send her on another assignment with some rich guy. Though the prospect of another assignment was intrigueing, she decided against it.

She looked around, seeing the small group of women at a table in the corner. With a sigh she stood and walked over to the group, making sure to stay out of range of anyones reach. Reaching the table, she smiled awkwardly, not sure what to say or do. "So..." she said, hoping they would say something to end her awkwardness.
PostPosted: Fri Jan 18, 2008 8:21 pm

Taryn deftly moved her hand down to her belt and unfastened a button on a small pouch on her belt and pulled out another bag, then tossed it lightly on to the table. It landed with the loud, heavy clinking of coins, and a few spilled out onto the table. She picked up one of the free coins and idly flipped it between her fingers.

"I haven't actually counted it, but you'll get half of the split after we leave and the rest when we're finished," she smiled widely, showing her teeth. The bag, while small, was evidently bulging with coins.

She nodded towards Lorelai. "We start as soon as possible," she stated in a rather matter-of-fact tone. "I'd like to be done with this and go back to enjoying an uneventful life."

Through her smiles, Taryn held a rather cross and worried look in her eyes. She believed Mirae's claims of more relics vanishing. It was true that she had no reason to disbelieve them and she seemed like no liar, and it did not sit well inside her. The seemingly easy "search and return" mission wasn't going to be so easy. She cursed her luck.

"Perhaps we all should sleep on it. If there are any questions, you can ask in the morning," she smiled at the women. She stood, looking over at Madison. She patted her shoulder lightly, "If you can handle yourself, you're welcome to come as well," as she spoke she walked haphazardly over to the bar to get a room.

"Well, then," Mirae sighed as she rose to her feet after Taryn, "I suppose that means an end to the night then." she looked after the woman as she seemed to stumble toward the bar, and hummed to herself unconciously. "If you head out with her, let her know I'll find you all after I settle some things at home. I can't let anyone think I'd be one to disappear in the middle of a job now can I?" she grinned as she walked away from them and picked up her cloak, swinging it onto her shoulder's with a flourishing bow. "Well, I'll be off then I suppose. Get some sleep, I have a feeling we're going to need it before this adventure is good and done with."

Walking to the door she brushed past unconcious drunks. Outside, the sounds of rain had died down, though there was still an indistinct patter of small, fragile droplets dripping on the woorwork. Pulling up her hood and settling it around her head she vanished into the night, and dreading the conversation to come. Alric was not going to be happy with her for this one.
PostPosted: Mon Jan 21, 2008 9:56 am

"Yeah, you're right. Well, see you in the morning." As Mirae Departed, Lorelai walked to the bar after Taryn to tell her the news. Taryn had turned away from the bar and was headed upstairs, leaving Lorelai to get a room on her own. After she paid the inkeeper, Lorelai followed Taryn's lead, and walked upstairs to her own room. She threw her bow and quiver on the small table along with her dirk, but left the dagger tied at her hip, because you never know what could happen in a strange town.

The rain was slowing, and Lorelai contemplated going outside just to be in the rain before it stopped completely, but she was tired, having not slept the night before. Not that that was really much of a problem for her, but she didn't know how long Taryn's little adventure would be, or whether she would get to sleep in its duration. Just to be safe, she figured that sleeping now would be in everyone's best interest, because a tired fellow-hunter could screw up the entire hunt in more ways than Lorelai liked to imagine.

In the cold, rainy nights small inns, like this one, offered gladly comfort and warmth to every adventurer or traveller who happened to step in and have money.
Fabian had money. And this was his first night in Tyr for over a year, it was worth celebrating with a few pints, wasn’t it?
He had already managed to get a place to stay for himself. In that same inn, to be precise. Another thing worth for celebrating!
He ordered a drink and got a mugfull of dark liquid with foam on top of it.
That’s what they call beer these days? But it smelled good.
He retreated to a corner table, keeping his eyes and ears open. Maybe someone will mention his former master, though it was unlikely. Most people were boasting about or too drunk to talk. He had a paranoid fear, that the mage would just step into the room, but it was impossible. His former master didn’t know, that he was back in Tyr, nor did he never leave his house to go to a lousy inn, like this one.
He tasted his drink, then drank the rest in one sip and ordered a new one. It didn’t take long until alcohol made him feel so nicely dizzy. He smiled to himself, then imagined, how people, who would look at him, would wonder, why he is smiling and that thought made him laugh out loud, earning a few glances from other customers. He took another beer, paid for it, drank it, felt as if his head was floating in clouds. At the same time a small dialogue catched his attention. Two men were sitting in near table, probably wanting to be out of attention centre, like Fabian. One was complaining about his daughter marrying an unwealthy shoemaker and how that annoying girl was dragging family business down.
Fabian was already drunk, but after third glass of beer the thought of telling them his opinion out loud had started to seem like an unbelievably good idea.
,,My good men,’’ he started with soft tongue and strong accent, wawing a beer mug at the two men, to show, that he was talking to them, not someone else ,,I-if tha’girl really loves that man let the two of them marry an’ live happililily eva afte’,’’ Three glasses of beer. He had drank just a little bit more than usually. Jiskat seemed to be asleep, uncontios or whatever it was, when Fabian was drunk He climbed on top of the table, almost falling because his legs wanted to move opposite ways, then standing up unsteadily. He had even better idea. Why not tell the whole inn – nope – the whole w o r l d about his small love-and-peace speech? He now had a bit of attention, given to him by those half-drunken people and a few rather sober looking individuals,,People o’ Tyr,’’ he told loudly, still holding the alcohol mug in his hand ,,People o’ Tyr, no matteh what is yur genda o’ age o’ how much money ye got,’’ he talked loudly, but slowly, to be certain, that everyone, including himself, understand him. His accent was stronger, than usually, making it still difficult to understand. People were now watching him. Probably thought that there is something fun to come. He tried to place the beer mug next to him, on a table, fell down from it, spilling the content of the mug all over the floor, earning a laughter from men. Fabian got up again, also laughing, then tried to continue stubbornly ,,Loveu shudd not be interrupted, ‘cause it is a good thing and withauth it this whole big cruel world is meaningless. Meh point’s, that gendah, age o’-’’ He made a pause, some small sober place in his brain understood, that he is making a fool of himself, other parts wanted him to continue, reassuring him that he was a genius. His doupts were quickly cleared when someone ordered him a drink, which he took gladly and drank it. Talking makes men thirsty, after all ,,Meh point’s that age o’ money not do matte’, love is a beatufilul…biuutifal…,’’ Fabian started laughing at himself again, almost hysterically, stumbled on his feet, while trying to walk over the room and fell, grabbing to the nearest thing to keep his balance. That thing happened to be the man who was complaining about his daughter before. Both managed to keep their balance.
Fabian lifted his gaze, to meet with the other mans eyes, a wide smirk on his face and lights blinking in his now hazy, green eyes. After forth mug of beer everyone looked so lovely and cute ,,If you do not beliliw how beau-ti-ful a love ish, how’bout I de-mon-strate it in my room just for you?’’ Smirk grew wider and his cloak hood fell back a little bit, showing his face and green eyes. Hands grabbed to the mans clothes, eyelids half-closed
Less than a minute later Fabian was lying on the street, face down in mud, blowing bubbles, soaked and a lot more sober than a few moments ago, deeply ashamed of what he had done.
He changed his position and was now facing the sky. The whole world seemed to turn upside-down. Water drops fell on his face, washing his body, the air was thick and heavy. But it was cold and wet too, so after a few minutes he got into kneeling position, then stood up, still unsteadily and with mind full of fog, went back in. Fabian felt like a drowned cat and looked like one too. He was hoping, that no-one would toss him out again, if he would only manage to really keep low profile this time. No alcohol anymore, althought he wanted to drink. But he liked comfort and wanted to sleep in more-or-less soft bed tonight.
He sneaked in and sat behind the nearest table.
