Aether pulled away slowly, almost regretfully. She would have happily continued kissing Tatenda, despite her quickly reddening complexion. However, she hadn't felt the other responding to her soft advances. Did he not truly...want this? Was his sudden pulling away before the result of his changing his mind? Her mind, which had been wrapped in warmth before, now shed its hazy state to reveal sharp fear and something akin to sorrow. "I'm sorry," she whispered, voice desolate and small. Tears had gathered in Aether's eyes. The kiss had awoken the knowledge of how much she cared for Tatenda. The thought of loosing that only made this interaction harder for her. "I didn't mean to...upset you..."

He hadn't realized his eyes slipped closed, letting his other senses take control of balancing him. Both physically and emotionally. But then, those soft lips had pulled away, and Tatenda found himself frowning like a kitten denied milk. Eyes opened again to see a flushed face. But what he noticed even more was the unnatural wetness of Aether's eyes. How they were lined with crystaline tears. His embarrassment vanished and was replaced with concern. No, he had hurt her! And he didn't even know how.
"Don't apologize." He was mildly surprised how calm and sharp his voice sounded. But he had to set this straight. Tatenda smiled kindly, and lifted his front paws carefully. They cupped Aether's face like some golden treasure, before moving to the base of her ears to massage there. "You...you can never upset me. I...I like you too much to bother about such things. Cause I...I think I'm in love with you..."

Aether hiccuped softly, at first wincing at Tatenda's harsh voice, but soon soothed by his kind words. She mewled a bit as his paws framed her face, then moved on to gently massage. Her eyes shut on her tears, hiding the now confused golden eyes. The young female did not know how to respond to such rapid changes. First, he kissed her. Then, she kissed him, but he didn't respond. Now, Tatenda seemed to be trying to comfort her. Her mind whirled, a headache soon forming from both her tears and the present situation.
Still, Tatenda's murmured admission reached her in her troubled state. He loved her? "You love me?" Previously shut eyes opened. The sorrow and pain that had filled them was slowly being replace by hope. Such hope was, to Aether, barely believable. Still, it grew and prospered as she gazed into the other's rosy eyes.

Tatenda mumbled an apology for all the stress he was putting his friend through. And he could only hope his paws would help to soothe the other, which it seemed to be working. An allowed moment of quiet was formed, enough to calm both of them in some way. And help Tatenda think through his little confession.
He flinched to the sight of hurt in Aether's eyes, and he moved close to kiss her brow. "Yes." He whispered it against her pale fur, keeping near so not to trouble her with expressions. "I do. I finally realize it now. I...I'm sorry it happened that way though. I'm really, really sorry." He didn't even know if she felt the same. If he had crossed the boundary of a sweet friendship...

Aether's eyes shut again as Tatenda leaned forward and kissed her eyebrow. As he stayed near her, she buried her head in the nook between his neck and shoulder. It created a comfortable resting place for her as she listened to Tatenda's words. His apologies washed over her. She responded slowly, "I'm not sorry that it happened that way." She did not raise her head, but kept her face buried into Tatenda's warm chest and neck. Her vision was full of chocolate fur. "I love you too, and I'm glad that you kissed me." Her mind circled around the image of rosy eyes. "I love you too..." Her voice trailed off, letting her eyes slide shut again.

A rumbling purr escaped Tatenda as Aether rested against his shoulder. His paws were forced to adjust, sliding away from her ears to wrap around her shoulders, pulling her into a hug. But was she okay? Had he exhausted her, or even insulted her? He listened kindly as she explained, keeping his mouth shut. It was nice to hear her voice calm as a reaction. And then, he stopped breathing. She...she loved him too? Him??
"I'm...I'm so glad." He buried his face into her soft hair, just absorbing the moment. It had been tiring, and confusing...some parts even depressing. But, they both felt the same for each other. They both felt love, and he was surprised. He didn't know there was something stronger than friendship till now.

Aether sighed softly as Tatenda's paws wrapped around her. She felt as though she were being bundled up in a warm and fuzzy blanket; her...love was a wonderful barrier against the cold. Hearing his soft response she smiled, only leaning farther into him. She felt him nuzzle his face into her hair, basking in the comforting touch. Hearing his breathing, she watched his chest rise and fall rhythmically. He loved her...and she loved him. That was enough. That would be enough forever.
Aether's stomach growled insolently, bringing sky high thoughts back to an earthly level. Blushing softly, she tried to ignore her tummy's insistent protests. It had been awhile since she had last eaten. Slightly upset at the imperfect timing of her body's needs, Aether paused, hoping that Tatenda had not noticed the not very subtle noise.

Tatenda flicked his ears to the quiet. No longer tense, but calming. His chin propped on Aether's head gently, leaving his view to her back and legs. But even that was enough to keep him sontent, to know she was near. From the golden marking adorning her pelt, to her fuzzy toes. It was enough.
His eyes widened slowly to the noise that decided to make itself known then. A grumbling, that he could even feel vibrate against his frame. From Aether's tucked tummy. Tatenda giggled softly. "I'm sorry, I've kept you idle for too long, it seems." Even as he spoke, back legs stretched tightly, along with tail feathers. He was already cramped up.

Aether's whole face transformed itself into a bright red beacon at Tatenda's words. His soft giggling soothed her though, even as her embarrassment heightened. "It seems I need a bit of nurishment. Care to join me?" She concentrated hard, avoiding stuttering in her state of lacking food. Aether stood slowly, stretching her stiff limbs. They had been lying in one position for quite awhile; the cold climate did not improve the situation. She nuzzled Tatenda as she stood, not wanting to loose their closeness with the changing of positions.

"Of course." He waited till she was done standing and adjusting, just sort of sitting there and admiring her. All his fears and tensions were gone now. Just completely gone. Her nuzzle birthed a purr from him, and he was soon too stand beside her. A quick stretch of his back and he was ready to go. "Well, what would you like to eat?" Tatenda was eager to get her a meal, since the tummy grumble had been quite loud. "When did you last eat?"

Aether smiled as she noticed Tatenda watching her out of the corner of her eye. At the sound of his purr, a bubble of elation filled her. As he stood beside her, any and all thoughts of loneliness vanished from her mind. Here was one who cared for her, loved her, and would stand beside her just like this no matter what. It was quite possibly the most awe inspiring feeling in the world, in her world. "I believe that the last time I ate was dinner yesterday," she pondered slowly, awaiting his reaction.

Oh, was he staring? Tatenda gave a sheepish chuckle before glancing to the side. Ermm. He ruffled out his brown fur, one paw reaching out to brush off some flakes on Aether's back. Ears stood straight and the male blinked. "What? Why haven't you eaten yet?" It was already clear past afternoon now. Concern made his legs walk him in a small circle, wondering where he could find food for her.

Aether let out a soft, happy chirp as he wiped off still more snowflakes. It seemed that her frozen fur would never be free of the wintry reminders. She shook her head a bit, making sure that none had settled in the hard to see place on top of her head. Between her ears was particularly hard to inspect. Looking up, her eyes almost crossed as she focused intently, trying to see past her own bangs. Her companion's question broke such concentration and turned her attention back to her fretful stomach. Seeking to pacify Tatenda, she explained: "It was early morning when I first set out today. I was eager to explore, seeing as it is my first winter. Eventually, I met up with you. Since then, I have been a bit too preoccupied to think of sustenance." She smiled at him, indicating that he need not panic; she was not so hungry as to be in any immediate danger. Although it was nice to have someone feel so protective of her. As she realized them, such thoughts made her blush slightly, bringing a light rosy tone to her cheeks.

A giggle was supressed to Aether's wandering eyes, though his ears did keep alert to hear her response. Just how long had they spent talking? Tatenda blinked to that mystery before deciding it was of no concern. They had time now, and he planned to spend it well. "Okay then, I think lunch time is in much demand now." The male paused and smiled softly to the other, catching her blush. It only made her fur glow all the more lovely. One paw reached up and ruffled her hair. "Heh, no more snow there either." ^__^

"Lunch time sounds good," Aether responded, still fighting to control her blushing features. Tatenda's knowing smile had not helped to diminish it in the least. She laughed as he ruffled her hair, playfully batting at his paws. "No more snow sounds wonderful." She turned her head to the side, suddenly seriously studying him. "Although, the silvery sheen it brought to your feather did make you look quite dashing." A bright smile caused her pensive look to melt away. She stepped up to him, tilting her head upward now to stare directly into his rosy eyes, the smile never leaving her face. Tucking her head underneath his chin, she nuzzled him gently, a soft purr escaping her lips.
