The men stopped short, loosening their swords but not yet drawing. "If you are not going to help us, then leave," one demanded.
The woman was coming towards him now, with another man behind her. "There is no reason to fear us," she assured him, her voice deceptively soft. "We are not here to steal your horses. We just need them to get out of your way, which would benefit us both."
The horses were reacting to the excitement, and now that four of the strangers were so close, Arril and Sih could smell something different about them. They smelled human, yet not. It was not just that they smelled vaguely of the mountains, it being quite possible that they had just come from there. It was an alien smell of a creature that neither of them had encountered before.
As for what Arril and Theron could see, the strangers carried themselves with power. They were not afraid of snappy Arril and quiet Theron.

Seeing the two men loosen their swords some, Theron quickly grabbed for his knife. Seeing the men not draw their swords, Theron relaxed some. Listening to the woman talk, he thought some.
Smelling a very faint, unfamiliar smell from the strangers, and the swords they carried, it seemed something was off about them. Standing up quickly, he looked at the people. "Before we do anything, where are you from!" Theron said out loud, as his face had shown. He stood there as he waited for them to answer, as his hand went to his knife.
There was an odd feeling about these people, he knew they should have continued on their way, and not stopped.

Without turning, the woman pointed behind her. "We're from back there," she said in a dry, unamused voice. All this drama just because her carriage was stuck in the mud. She wished that they had met normal people who might help them on their way.

Arril instinctively became suspicious. There were legends among the wilds that mostly reptiles spoke of, but Arril knew little about. He gripped the hilt of his knife, knowing that that sort of gesture might spark something, but this scent, the air about them, it wasn't right for this place. "Arril, these people smell of the mountains we visited two years ago. Of the very rocks we stood upon. They smell as if their essence is connected in some way to something.. 'other.'" Sih hissed quietly.
Arril nodded, contemplating this. Sih had heard vaguely of the legends from her hatching years, but knew about as much as Arril in the subject. "You smell of mountain ranges. of rocks I have stood upon." Arril declared, unknowing that this comment might blow any sort of cover they had. "You smell as if you were just there..."
Arril tightened his brow and tucked in his arm, poised to throw sih... "What are you?!" He suddenly exclaimed.
He could sense smell far greater than Theron could, and the 'other' prescence shouted danger in his mind. He backed away to the side of the carriage, out of the reach of their swords. though he was more afraid of the 'other' and the possibility of magic, than anything.

Theron had done the same as Arril. Not knowing what was going to happen he started to panic some, but was still able to keep focused. Stepping towards the carriage's exit, he stood there, right at the edge. He readied to jump out at any moment, and attack one of the two men that where there. Keeping his eye on the one that was further from Arril, he hoped that he wouldn't have to kill anyone.
Looking around, and spotting a guard that was the closest to him, Theron had readied to lung at that one. Waiting for some sign of some sort, he stayed there, hoping that he didn't have to do anything. Not wanting to kill any one, he just wanted this to go by with out any kind fighting.
Looking around some, he waited until Arril would be attacked, before he even thought of doing anything. He did think of something good that could come out of this, where the swords. They where better than the knifes that the two had, they weren't even daggers, barely even a weapon.

contrary to Theron's possibility of fighting, Arril had only one thing in his mind: run.
Under normal circumstances, he would have been able to take the two men without hesitation. With his tail unbound and his balance better than any normal man's ever could be; and the adrenaline-laced instincts that pushed his mind into blood lust, making his opposition seem slow to move and his reflexes faster than a rational mind could comprehend; he could take any opponent and best them.
But with the men wearing shirts of metal, his tail bound, the threat of magic from the lady, and the impending oppression of the 'other' scent, Arril was ready to run faster than you could say, snake-on-a-stick.
He thrashed his tail furiously against it's bindings, loosening them, readying himself for whatever they threw at him.
he didn't even know the boy's name, so he could alert him to his intentions...

The lady sighed. It was partly to stall, but also to help show that she was not readying to attack, despite the man's crazy outburst. "Clearly you have traveled long and hard," she responded slowly, soothingly. "Yes we have come from the mountains, as I said. That is no concern, no danger to yourselves. Will you help us with our carriage, or not? We will have to disturb the local peasants for help if you are just going to stand there and yell at us."
It was not that they hadn't noticed movement on Arril's part, but rather that their current tactic was to try not to excite him further. As the lady stalled, a man perched on the edge of their carriage stared at the two strangers, concentrating hard to weave his magic without moving his hands. His fingers twitched and his lips parted as he focused, setting a spell of calm on the company as a whole, which was perversely easier than trying to specify a target.
The horses of the other carriage lowered their necks, sniffing at the ground as they became unconcerned with the humans' faltering agitations.

((I assume that the eyes of dragons and Arril are familiar in at least some way. it might alert them to what he is, at least.))
Arril was about to lose it and bolt, but he calmed himself somehow. He could not explain it, but his instincts were receding and his rational mind was getting clearer. He became suspicious, but he was calm.
He decided to step out on a limb. "The mountains isn't the only scent I detect..." He said, becoming more curious.
Sniffing, he took a step towards the men. His eyes were visible for just a moment to them, feircely outlandish and calculating. something strangely familiar to them, yet alien in it's own way.

Theron had felt the dagger start to fall from his hand. Trying to keep hold of it, he couldn't. The knife fell as he tried to keep it in his hand. Looking around, he started to feel different, as he never felt before. "What the hell is going on?" He asked aloud as he tried to grab onto his knife again. Giving up after a few moments, he just watched what was going on.

One of the men chuckled as Arril approached. "So you have a sense of smell, do you? Careful, we haven't bathed in a week!" The other men laughed as they also relaxed. They didn't seem quite as taken as Theron, but that was probably an illusion due to training.
The only one not affected was the magician himself, who now stood to approach the group. "Come rest in our carriage, and we can talk," he offered. If Arril accepted, he planned to have his men appropriate their horses long enough to get out of the mud.
The woman had retreated to their own horses, patting them.
(It's not that they haven't noticed, but that they haven't reacted yet, also being under the spell)

Theron had looked at the man atop of the carriage as he spoke. Feeling anger towards the man for making him calm some, he wanted the spell removed, and quick.
"I wont go in there. If he does, I will stay here." He said defiantly, as his voice croaked some.
((Sorry for the shortness XD))

Arril shook his head. "I prefer to stay where I can see the sky, with my horses." Arril said, patting the beasts.
He hadn't forgotten about his promise to the horses, and he wasn't going to leave their sight.
"I have smelled worse things..." Arril muttered. He rubbed he cheek against Sih's own and watched the men, wondering how they would do anything. He looked to the boy for any sort of mock command from his "master"

"Suit yourself," he said pleasantly, and began to walk away, gesturing to the other men to do the same.
With the basic spell already in place, it wasn't as difficult for him to increase the dosage. Unfortunately that made every one sleepy, so, knowing this, he also began to contract the spell on a more specific location-- the stranger's carriage. These two seemed violent, and they were hindering more than helping their progress.

Theron had felt the spell become stronger. Grabbing for his dagger, he had tried his best to prevent the spell from effecting him. Looking up at the guy that was casting the spell, he readied to throw his dagger at him.
Bringing his hand back he looked at the man that was casting the spell. Reading him self, he started to throw his knife at the man. Instead of throwing it, he stopped, and saw that the others where not being effected.
Jumping down to the ground, he got away from the carriage, hoping that only the carriage was being affected, and not him. He stood about ten feet away from the carriage, but was standing a few feet away from the group of people. He grabbed hold of his knife, and kept hold it as long as he could, waiting for the people if they where going to attack.
"If you just want help, then why are you trying to put us to sleep!" He looked at the mage, and kept him in his vision most of the time.

Arril was about to question the boy about his accusations, but he suddenly started losing his balance. it was only a moment after he drew his dagger when he fell to the ground, feeling all the effects of his traumatic experience of being captured and his separation of Sih. He could only lie there as the spell made him more and more sleepy...
