lonewolfsega yup got loads of from here and it led to my main character living in a forest two ^^ well i never went looking for love it just kinda found me, so just do what you normally do and it will find you ^^ That sounds great! I'm not sure if I would be cut out for life in a forest though... That's ok, like I said I'm not looking for a girlfriend right now. Black_Midnight_Sparrow (Sorry to change the subject) (FYI, I've been having issues with where my comments end up *sigh*) I'm surprised that no one added info about phoenixes. A quick history of the phoenix: The phoenix was originated in persian mythology. Over time it spread to egypt, and was closely related to worship at the Heliopolis, the rising sun, and Ra (The egyptian sun god). Afterwards it spread to Greece. Over time, the phoenix has evolved via writing, the internet, etc. From Wikipedia: Quote: A phoenix is a mythical bird with a colorful plumage and a tail of gold and scarlet (or purple, blue, and green according to some legends). It has a 500 to 1,000 year life-cycle, near the end of which it builds itself a nest of twigs that then ignites; both nest and bird burn fiercely and are reduced to ashes, from which a new, young phoenix or phoenix egg arises, reborn anew to live again. The new phoenix is destined to live as long as its old self. In some stories, the new phoenix embalms the ashes of its old self in an egg made of myrrh and deposits it in the Egyptian city of Heliopolis (sun city in Greek). It is said that the bird's tears contain healing abilities of pureness, and their cry is that of a beautiful song. Ok, I hope you like my info! biggrin Don't be so surprised, in this guild we sometimes wonder off topic, he-he. sweatdrop That is some great info about the phoenix you posted there Sparrow, nicely done thank you! I guess Harry Potter had it right about the bird's tears, huh? Hey Wolf Sega! Thanks for posting about those creatures but I'll have to read that post a bit later.

lonewolfsega now for more creatures from my book ^^ Fenrir Fenrir also known as Fenris-wolf he is the son of Loki and Angrboda the giantess. He is the brother of Hel and the Midgard Serpent. Fenrir was vicious and blood thirsty. Fenrir was so dangerous that the other gods bound Fenrir in chains; Fenrir repeatedly broke the chains until the gods made a magical invisible chain called Gleiphr. In the Ragnarok Fenrir breaks free from the chain and will devour everything however Fenrir is killed after killing Odin as Vidor Odin's son stabs him. Nightmare Nightmares or Skeletal steeds are undead horses they are one of the greatest aids to the undead. These are the bodies of great war-horses that are brought back to the unlife by necromantic powers. Nightmares unlike mortal horses have the ability to move through terrain that might be blocking their path they can move though walls and dense vegetation with ease. Minotaur Minotaurs are powerful beasts that are half taurine, half-human. They are savage creatures, which can use simple weapons such as clubs. Minotaurs origins lie within Greek mythology where a Minotaur was kept in a labyrinth at Knossos until Thesus killed it. They have been featured in many fantasy novels and also appear in the fantasy roleplay games Basilisk The Basilisk is the mythical king of the serpents. The basilisk is born from a spherical yolkless egg, which was laid by a seven-year rooster and hatched by a toad. According to the legends there are two species of Basilisk. The first is a creature that burns everything it approaches the second kind can kill every living thing with a mere glance. Both species are so evil that their breath wilts vegetation and can crack stones. A basilisk is a highly poisonous creature. It was though the only way to kill a Basilisk is by holding a mirror In front of its eyes, the moment the creature sees itself in the mirror it dies of sheer fright. The basilisk had natural enemies the weasel was immune to the Basilisks glance, and if the Basilisk should here a c**k crow it would be killed instantly. hope this helped ^^ Hmm, so did you use the term of Fenrir and modify it a bit in your story? Or did you create something different with that name? I ask cuz the word Fenrir seems very familiar but somehow I can't quite place why... Aye! I know about night"mares" thanks to Magic the Gathering but according to their art, they are not skeletal so they must differ in that detail, right? Maybe more... Cool! I've seen some cool ones in MGT and I don't think they vary much in all the concepts they appear in, right? Oh yeah, I've seen basilisks a lot in MGT as well but in the card game they are a bit different depending on the card. For example, I remember one card that said that their ability only activated after battle was over, meaning that creatures that were blocked by or happened to block the attack of a basilisk were destroyed at the end of combat instead of as soon as they engaged in battle (which was another card I believe I saw on another occasion). I know I might seem a bit like a parrot with "Magic the Gathering, Magic the Gathering" but that's where I get most of my mythical creature info from, he-he. sweatdrop BTW, did you make that stuff up about the origin of the basilisk or does it come from another official source?

Hey! Yeah, I wanted to add the phoenixes because of a book I am writing titled Blood, Ash, and Shadow. The main character is a phoenix. I might of overadded stuff... but bear with me
My variation of the Phoenix:
It's the modern picture of a Phoenix. But it has many types and has the form of a bird. Guardian Phoenixes are protectors of humans and elves from the Ashen Phoenixes. They go to the sun to regenerate.
Here are the creatures I (at least partally) made up.
Quetzotl
I forgot where the name came from. But its a lot like a demon from the golden compass series (Books) except that A. It is NOT a person's soul B. It can change whenever it pleases C. If it does become bonded with a person it can go far away D. It talks through the mind.
Ashen Phoenixes
They're born when a Phoenix regenerates over a sunspot. They are living gas (Gives them the nickname "Smoke Birds") that takes over peoples bodies and leaves them lifeless. The phoenixes are at a constant war with the phoenixes. Theory says that when an Ashen takes over a body it sends the mind to the Void which traps them in a world filled with sweet poison. The only person that ever survived the Ashens was the elf Nokirea Hikerel who confirms the existence of the void though.
Ok, FYI, everything in my book symbolizes something in my life, but I prefer not to tell... smile (About the size of phoenixes, In legends they can be big enough to make up half the sun, but they can also be as small as sparrows.

I see... thanks for posting Wolf Sega! At least now I know a bit more about how the origin of the basilisk can vary. I also had no idea about Fenrir being a Norse legend at all. Nice going Sparrow! There is a creature here in Latin America and is called "Quetzalcoatl" so maybe you heard something like this in either Mayan or Aztec history/legends. Wow! You sure did make up a lot of info about your Ashen Phoenixes, huh? Nicely done! It's ok if you rather keep some things to yourself. I think all of us crew do that as well. 3nodding

Quetzacoatl... sounds familiar... could be it.... I dunno, I was in 3rd grade when I read the The Golden Compass (Awwwwesome series FYI) and I got the Idea. I usually depict them as a serpent, rodent, or a dolphin when I thin of them though, and the serpent part supports it right? I dunno... Its been a while. I have heard of the Quetzacoatl though, we brushed over Aztec mythology in my third grade history.

I read some where that in some legends around the world, phoinexes have a human form. I thought that was really cool.
And I don't know if this is allowed, but I made up a creature (If it already made, I don't think I've read about it) but I made it for one of my stories. I call them Shadow beings. They are born from darkness and sorrow. They have human forms, but their eyes, hair, and skin are black (well, I made the skin dark brown, like an Aficain Americain.) They have other forms, like that of a bird and others, but the form is always black. Also, if in animal form and they pass under light, it doesn't reflect (like in bird form, how when they get under light, there's purples and greens to the feathers? For a Shadow being, it doesn't do that.)
I love writing.... just wish i could finish something... sweatdrop

I don't see why not. I mean, the author from Twilight took vampires and removed their fangs so, why shouldn't you take a creature and make your own version of it?
