Entering for the Free-for-All Box Username: Amethyst M Bell Ulaya Name: Persephone Why did you choose that name?: It’s the name of a young Greek Goddess, the half sister of Glacies the God of Snow and Ice. I like the tale of the siblings so I chose there names for my entries. I chose these names for my entries based on info provided about the parents as well as the fact that in the myth they are siblings. I wanted to pick names that seemed to got together so they would help focus my mind more. These two entries are my first so I’m trying really hard, I’ve never entered an RP give away or sale because frankly I can’t write. Gender: Female Prompt Number: Prompt Reply 1 You're sitting under a shady tree watching your other siblings play in the sunlight. Being the most shy of the group you tend to keep to yourself but you hear a sound from someone behind you. When you turn to see it's a strange Ulaya you don't know walking towards you ... What do you do? Do you greet them or run away to your siblings? Are they nice and join you in the shade? Response:
The sun shines down brightly on the warm summer afternoon, the soft green grass sways to and fro in the gentle breeze. The stream nearby sings its even, soothing song; the various birds in the area join in. The scent of wild flowers in the air could make any Ulaya smile even just slightly, the young female resting herself in the shade under the ancient oak being no exception.
She sat on her hind quarters looking out over the field, her eyes resting on her siblings as the four of them played tag. She was more shy and reserved than the others, and while they had fun playing and romping around, she enjoyed just sitting back and watching them most of the time. Her soft blue eyes followed the eldest of the kits, watching him as he ran after her little brother. She was the second youngest, and she liked it that way. Not the youngest, so she’d still have someone to look after; but she wasn’t responsible for everyone as much as the oldest was.
Sighing lightly, she looked up to the sky. The leaves of the tree blocked most of the light so it wasn’t too hard on her eyes. The blue vastness she could see through the branches pulled her off into thought. ‘ What was up there? ’ She found herself wondering things like this all the time. ‘ What was in the world around herself? ’ Her mother had told her tales of all sorts of things, of many other creatures all over the world. However Persephone longed for an adventure, she was just unwilling to go alone and she didn’t want her siblings to bug her about being scared. So she kept that dream to herself.
Blinking back to the present, her gaze lowered again, and she watched her brothers and sisters a moment, before looking around for her parents. She spotted them not too far away, laying under the shade of another tree and talking to each other; though still keeping an eye on the play in the field. They both owned such beautiful pelts, and she herself believed she had inherited the best of both. Her fur was a pale blue like her mother’s, with slightly darker markings that matched her father’s. She had a fluffy tail like his too. She loved it, as did her younger brother. Persephone smiled at the thought of the way her brother would play with her tail, pouncing on it and fighting with it.
Just then, in mid thought, Persephone’s ears twitched before turning back; so she could hear behind her better. ‘ There was movement? But who? ’ She could see all her siblings and her parents. Slowly turning her head, she looked behind herself. Off in the distance there was something, it appeared to be an Ulaya from the shape, but she couldn’t be sure. It didn’t seem to have noticed herself or her family, so Persephone ignored the other and thought nothing of it. She was a little surprised she’d heard anything from them at all.
Looking back to the playing kits in the field, she lowered herself to the ground more, so she was laying down. She rested her chin on her front paws and closed her eyes. It didn’t take her long to start drifting off as she lay there in the warmth of the sun, a catnap was always good, and one of her favorite activities. Unfortunately the period of rest didn’t last long for the young female, her ears twitching once more in her sleep, however, in her restful state this went unnoticed. It wasn’t until the critter, a young Ulaya himself, jumped out from behind her shade tree and yelled “ Hello! ” that Persephone noticed him.
Startled from her sleep, Persephone jumped up with a shrill cry, and looked about franticly before spotting the male. She stared at him as she took a step back, a questioning look pulling across his face. “ What’s wrong? ” He asked, as he watched her, moving a paw closer just to have her move further away. Looking back at her parents, Persephone whimpered and wanted to run to them, too nervous and shy to stay, not to mention scared. Her parents watched her, instead of coming to her aid so she knew she wasn’t likely in too much danger, if any.
She looked back at the boy a second before looking down to hide the warmth she felt in her cheeks. “ Y…You startled me. I… I was sleeping, and you scared me. ” Persephone’s voice was naturally very soft and small. Due to her shyness, it seemed even more so. Ulayas were known for there great hearing and this kit was no exception. “ I’m sorry, I didn’t know you were asleep, I thought it was part of the game. ” Turning he looked to her siblings, still playing tag and giggling. “ I didn’t mean to scare you, I just wanted to join in. ”
Looking at the male once more, Persephone studied him. His pelt was cream white with orange markings on his ears and nose, as well as all four paws. His tail was a little odd, long like her father’s, but it had no fluff. It was skinny and short furred, with orange stripes near the end. ‘He was actually kind of cute.’ His pale blue/white eyes met with hers. Her eyes widened a moment when she realized what she had just thought, and she looked away so she wasn’t staring. “ Um… I’m sure they’ll let you join, but I’m not actually playing… so you have to ask them. ” Her blush had darkened slightly and she wished at that moment, that she had the darker pelt of her oldest brother, to hide the color change.
“ Why aren’t you playing? It looks like fun… ” Sitting back on his hind quarters, the boy watched this strange female, she talked funny and acted a little strange but maybe that was how kits with sibling acted. He was the only child in his family. “ I… I prefer to watch, I don’t like this game much. ” Nodding the cream kit smiled with an idea. “ How about you and I play by ourselves then, I’ve never played with anyone other than my mother and father before, so I probably can’t keep up with them. ” Using his paw, he pointed at the other four. Persephone looked up at him, and saw the hopefulness in his eyes.
She bit her lip before looking back towards her parents, then to him again. She could tell that he really wanted to and she didn’t want to be rude. “ O… ok, but I can’t be long. My mom and dad will want to go soon. ” Standing the male nodded and smiled even wider. “ Good ok, oh by the way my name’s Ardon. ” Always taught to be polite Persephone gave a shy smile back as she stepped a little closer. “ I’m Persephone, nice to meet you. ”
Grinning slyly as she came nearer Ardon reached out and tagged Persephone’s front right paw. “ And you’re it Persephone. ” With that he turned and ran, leaving Persephone herself standing there and blinking. She hadn’t expected that and looked back to her parents who were once more watching her four siblings. She wasn’t sure if she should follow Ardon, but she didn’t want to lose because she was too chicken. So with a kick of her strong hind legs, she was off after him.
She chased him till the stream, a little surprised as his speed. He was much faster than she, but as he jumped right over the water and to the other side she stopped at the edge staring. He hadn’t bothered the water at all, not even a hair had touched it. She’d only seen her father do that before. “ That was neat Ardon, you’re a strong runner and jumper. ” But she had a plan, and she was going to use it. Moving forwards she stepped into the stream, the cooling water soaked quickly into her fur and caressed her skin beneath. She sighed lightly, it felt good to cool down a little, her tail swayed back and forth in the stream behind her.
When it had soaked enough though, she turned and used the appendage to fling water at Ardon, who in turn let out a cry as the cool liquid hit him. Looking at him Persephone couldn’t help but giggle at the expression on his face. His head was soaked and lowered slightly. She’d gotten his paws and chest as well. “ Take that, that… thats’s for scaring me before. ” At this point Persephone had at least half forgotten her nervousness, and was well on her way to forgetting altogether. Ardon stood staring at her in surprise a moment, before his grin returned to him. He stepped just to the edge of the water, using small paw to scoop water up and splash Persephone. Her eyes widened as he did though he didn’t get her too bad. “ Hey that’s not fair. ”
That was the start of their battle, splashing and pouncing each other, giggling and all in all being kits. Persephone’s nervousness was forgotten completely and she enjoyed herself as they played, both of them losing the time though it seemed like they’d been playing for hours. When they had finally tired each other out, they lay on their backs in the thick grass near the stream, the lowering warmth of the setting sun drying their fur. “ I’m glad I met you today Ardon, I had fun. ” Ardon was about to say something when both the kits ears twitched. They sat up at the sound of there parents voices. Looking to each other they smiled knowing it was time to go separate ways. “ I’ll try to come back tomorrow Persephone. ” She nodded watching him go before she stood and headed back to the field, telling her parents of her new friend, and the wonderful time they had had, when they asked if she had fun.
Heading off to sleep that night Persephone curled up with her siblings, between her parents and closed her eyes. She had realized something on the way home as she thought about her day. She had had her adventure. It wasn’t a big one, or anything to brag about, but it was her adventure and it was a start, there was sure to be more to come.

Entering for the Newbie Box Username: Amethyst M Bell Ulaya Name: Glacies Why did you choose that name?: This is the name or the Greek god of snow and ice, brother of Persephone. Gender: Male Prompt Number: Prompt Reply 2 Your alone and the sky is getting dark and full of heavy snow clouds but being more like your father your pelt is thicker then a normal Ulaya's would be. The air gets colder and colder as you wait for the approaching storm and your starting to get more chilly then you thought you might. Do you stay and tough out the weather, trying to keep your father proud or do you run and find somewhere warm to hide and wait for the storm to end. What happens after the storm? Was it big enough to cover the ground or just a small flurry? Response:
It was autumn, the transition between summer and winter, one of the most colorful times of the year. It was just ending, but still it remained lingering to show, for just a little longer, that it had been there. The ground was covered in leaves of all colors, though mostly brown. They where dried and delicate. Even a light breeze having the power to tear them apart, tossing them around as it blows. It was a chilly morning, but the sun still seemed to make an appearance, and by midday it was comfortably warm.
A group of five young Ulayas playing a field near their home. The weather too cold to swim, they had to find something else to do. Deciding on a game they stood beneath a nearly leafless tree, all five looking up at the remaining leaves. They were having a contest, the goal was to see who could catch the most leaves that fell. They’d been at it a little over an hour, but still seemed to be having fun with the game. Giggling and laughing, tackling and pouncing on each other to steal a leaf from a siblings grasp.
The smallest of the siblings had a hard time with the game, and being the youngest everyone else seemed to be bugging him about it. Glacies had his mother’s pale grey eyes, he was the same deep purple of his father’s markings with waves of white along his spine. He had the fluffy bobble like tail of his mother, and as of yet it was unknown as to whether he would gain his father’s horns like two of his siblings where showing signs of. His coat was nice and thick. Set for the winters cold and snow.
Sadly Glacies was losing by far. It upset him as he watched his siblings doing so much better then he. He knew his father could do this, and he wanted to be just like the elder Ulaya. Their father was Glacies’ hero. He was big and strong and good at everything, at least that’s what Glacies believed. His siblings likely believing the same about at least one of their parents.
Sighing the dark colored male was about to give up on the game when he looked up at the tree, spotting an almost silver colored leaf. His eyes widened slightly and he knew, at that moment, that he had to have it. Getting ready to move Glacies watched it, tuning out the sounds of his brothers and sisters as much as he could, and waited. It was a while before it seemed to move, but the moment it did, he was ready. However when the leaf finally let go, when it finally fell, it didn’t drift down. Instead it was caught by the breeze and began to drift away from the five kits and its tree.
Glacies watched it a second, too small to jump and reach it. ‘ It couldn’t say up there for ever right? ’ He’d just followed, and when it lowered he’d grab it. So without really being noticed by the others, Glacies turned from them and gave chase through the grass and fallen leaves. Even with his little legs, he managed to keep up with the wind propelled leaf, being careful not to fall or trip. He never noticed how far away from the others he was getting.
He was a good distance away, through a stand of trees and out of view of his brothers and sisters, before the breeze lost it grip on ‘ his ’ leaf and it drifted to the ground. Glacies pounced at it the moment it landed, but he was careful not to shatter the fragile thing. Looking at it to make sure it was ok, Glacies laughed and smiled at the whole leaf, that didn’t seem quite as delicate as the others. “ Got you, thought you could get away didn’t you. Well you’re mine now. ”
Just then the breeze returned, shifting Glacies’ fur as it moved over him. As the breeze drew his attention away from the leaf for a moment, he noticed that it had become darker in the past few minutes. He’d had his mind so set on catching that leaf, that he hadn’t noticed it, but thick heavy looking clouds had formed over head. He looked up at them, never having seen clouds quite like that. ‘ Must be some sort of rain clouds ’ he thought before going back to the activity at hand. It wasn’t like he hadn’t been out in the rain before.
Glacies actually liked the rain, and due to the thickness of his pelt the cold of it rarely bothered him as much as his siblings, though it was quite heavy when wet. He actually hoped it would rain, nature’s way of helping him get back at the others from picking on him. He though it would be perfect. He’d trot home after a while to find them all huddled up and shivering, trying to gain warmth from their parents.
Whilst in thought Glacies found himself laughing, and as he did he saw something interesting. A type of mist floating up from his open mouth. He hadn’t realized it was near that cold out, he still felt comfortably warm. Glancing back up at the sky, the clouds seemed darker than before, but Glacies thought that he was seeing things maybe and so still ignored them. However the moment he had lowered his gaze something cold and wet touched his furless nose. Crossing his eyes he tried to see it but by the time his eyes focused it was little more than a drop of water.
So in his mind it was little more than rain. Laying hunched over his leaf to protect it from the rain, Glacies smiled as he noticed a little white fleck falling from the sky. Then there was another, and one more. It wasn’t rain, it was snow. He loved snow, winter was one of his favorite times due to the snow. He liked watching it and playing in it alike. Actually he’d never been out alone during a snowfall before. But he knew he’d be ok, and if he stayed out he could prove he was as brave and strong as his father.
Making himself comfortable he settled in to watch the snow blanket the ground. Watching the land around him go from the colors of late autumn to the blinding white of winter, Glacies allowed an hour to pass. It wasn’t until he tried to move that he realized how cold it had gotten and how stiff the cold had made his joints. He whimpered slightly at this, trying to remember when the temperature dropped so low. He hadn’t noticed at all, but he was cold and didn’t like it much.
Figuring he had been out in this long enough he decided that he’d go back now, his family might be worried anyway. So standing to collected ‘ his ’ leaf and turned to head home. However as he did he realized he didn’t know what way, everything looked the same with a thick layer of snow on it. And to add to his problems the snow fall looked to be turning into a hard storm. He whimpered slightly but knew he’d have to find his way back, and fast probably.
So heading the way he was sure he came head started off back through the stand of trees. It was hard to see through the falling snow now, the wind blew the flakes into his eyes so he had to squint just to see and even then he couldn’t see far. Which in turn caused the young male kit to walk dead on into a tree. Shaking his head he used a paw to rub the spot on his head that he’d hit before looking up at the tree. “ I’m going the right way I guess. ” He sat there staring up at the tree he and his siblings had been playing at.
Standing he looked around, trying to remember the direction of home from that tree. But as he did he saw something, a large and somewhat scary looking shadowy figure off in the snow storm. He could just barely make out the outline. His eyes widened and he stepped back as he realized it was coming his way. “ Snow monster… ” he whispered to himself as he bit his lip and quickly ducked behind the tree, hoping it and the snow would hide him. A few minutes went by and he could hear foot steps growing closer before stopping not too far away.
He was shaking with fear now, ‘ Be brave! You got to be brave… ’ he thought as he tried to vanish. “ Glacies? There you are. ” Feeling a warm near him the kit was surprised, even more so when someone lifted him from his hiding spot and set him down on top of the snow. He held his eyes shut a moment before slowly opening them. Deep green eyes and snow white and deep purple fur met his gaze. “ Daddy! ” He was up and cuddling with his father a second later. “ Are you ok? ” Glacies nodded to his father and smiled, the older Ulaya smiling back. “ Then let’s head home. ” With that they headed home to a worried mother and four siblings.

Username: [.Silvr-Moon.] Ulaya Name: Whisp Why did you choose that name?: I chose it because the colors remind me of the fire-type pokemon move, Will-o-whisp, which is a purple and light purple flame-like ember. Gender: Male Prompt Number: 1 Response:
Everything under the tree was near perfect. It was shady, and everything around him gave a comfortable warmth. He let a small purr-like sound tickle his throat, and glanced around at his four other siblings running around with each other. He narrowed his eyes a little, breathing in and filling his head with the sweet smells of his surroundings.
Suddenly, there was a rustling from behind him in a bush. He pricked up his ears, and became very attentive. Whisp peered deeply into where he thought the rustling had come from in the bush. Stalking a few steps closer, he saw faintly a pair of another Ulaya's eyes. Letting out a small yelp in shock, Whisp scrambled backwards as fast as he could. His fur stood on end and bristled from the shock of the new and strange person.
"Quiet down!" the Ulaya hissed at him, in an irritated manor. Obediantly, he shut his mouth, but quivered from the shock of it. "Now, what are you doing here all by yourself?" It asked, more friendly and curious. Whisp picked up the voice being more femmenine, but would confirm it with himself until he saw the Ulaya.
"N..n-n-nothing. J-just sitting down." He stammered. From the shade of the bush, he noticed a faint, amused smile below the pair of eyes.
"My name is Komari" the Ulaya said, in a welcoming voice. "There's no need to be frightened. Sorry to sneak up on you like that." She purred. Komari slipped out of the bush, but she was kind-of hard to see. She had a pattern similar to the northern lights, and was a light tannish color.
"Is that your family over there?" she asked him sweetly. She took a few steps over and sat down next to him.
"Y-yes. Why?" He asked, still a little unsure. His pelt flattened down a little bit, as he became a little easier. He looked up at her, and as he looked closer he noticed that she was a little transparent and had light tannish eyes like the color of her body. Her eyes were transparent as well, and staring into them gave Whisp the chills. And there was one more thing about her. On her forehead, there was no jewel or tiara-like circlet like everyone else.
"They all look like they're having fun. Why aren't you playing with them?" Komari asked. She gave him a warm smile, and swept her tail against the ground. Small flower-buds bloomed around the area where her tail had been.
"They don't want to play with me.....it's probably boring anyway......I'm enjoying it here more anyway..." He answered to her. He looked down at his paws, thinking twice now about playing with his kin.
"Well, I have to get back on the road....more places to see and Ulaya's to meet.....but don't worry, I'll meet you again sometime in the future." she purred, as she got up and streched her forelegs.
"You really will?" he asked her, in a shrill voice. He felt a friendship between them, even something that was far-off in the distance. He now felt slightly guilty for judging her in the beginning as a stranger.
Komari let another small, soft smile pass on her face. "Trust me, we will meet again." She finished, and walked out into the sunlight. As soon as the smallest part of her body stepped into the sunlight, it faded away in a matter of seconds. Whisp's eyes watered up a little as he felt that his heart had been slightly broken and a large part of him left.
"Whisp! Come play with us!" One of his sisters called to him, jumping up and down. Whisp smiled, and ran over to his family, joining in their game in the shade.
I really hope you like it! =^.^=
I may edit it tomorrow just for colors in the text. Done!

I’m going to try for the Main Contest Box. This is my first Gaia RP, so I guess I don’t expect to win, but it’s definitely worth a shot! ^__^
Username: Aethubryn Ulaya Name: Biande Why did you choose that name?: I think it’s a pretty name, and I like how it’s pronounced as the word “beyond.” Plus, I can create my character around that as a sort of theme. Gender: Female Prompt Number: 3
It's a calm warm day, and your family's taking a swim in the lake. Meanwhile you sit on a rock, not far from the lake, being unsure about swimming. After some pondering, do you decide to take a dip with your family? if not, why do you decide not to? If deciding not to, what do you do instead? just sit on the rock, observing, or look around your settings?
Response:
Ah, the lake. Situated in a convenient central location, Ulayas from all across the land traveled to spend their free time relaxing in the water. It was a fine day for swimming, too – there wasn’t a cloud in the sky, nor was there a breeze, which meant the water would be just the perfect temperature. The lake was clean and clear, and glimmered beautifully in the sunlight, almost as if personally inviting its furry friends in for a few laps. It was too bad Biande absolutely hated water.
The rest of her family loved to swim, however, so a trip to the lake was the day’s scheduled activity. Father said it would be a good experience for her. Mother said it would promote family bonding. Biande said she’d rather chew off her own tail than spend one second at that dumb lake.
One hour later, Biande found herself sitting atop one of the many stones that lined the shore of the lake. By threat of an empty dinner plate and multiple extra chores, she’d forced herself to come along. Once they had arrived, though, she knew she had still won. Her parents had only made her agree to come to the lake, but they had said nothing about actually getting into the water. With exasperated sighs, and silent glances at each other that seemed to say, “What are we going to do with this kid,” her parents caved and finally left her alone. Besides, they couldn’t spend much more time bickering with Biande – their other children needed supervision.
Biande smiled as she watched her family leap in. She had outsmarted her parents! This was certainly an accomplishment. There was no denying Mother and Father’s intelligence, so getting the one-up on them was a rare pleasure. Wishing she could display the huge feeling of pride she had for this achievement without incurring a punishment, she instead focused her free time on grooming her gorgeous icy blue coat.
Another hour passed, and Biande found herself searching for something to occupy her time. She’d already cleaned every inch of fur on her body twice, thought up three new ideas for drawings, tracked the flight of a gold butterfly until it disappeared in a tree, and counted all the rocks in sight (there were seventy-two). Most important of all, though, she had made sure to keep her eyes from settling upon the lake. She knew what would happen if she locked eyes with one of her siblings. First, they would plead with her to join them, as pathetic as that was. Next would come a round of teasing, followed by the conclusion that she was a party pooper. Biande hoped to avoid that embarrassment, but boredom was getting the best of her.
If she looked just once, what harm could it do? They were probably all having too much fun to notice her gaze anyway. And she’d only peek for a second – no, a nanosecond. Surely she could get away with that!
Raising her head ever so slightly, the young Ulaya took in the scene. It seemed as if they were playing Marco Polo, with Mother as Marco. Her siblings had scattered, leaving her poor mother left to seek out where they hid. She was having a hard time of it, too – Mother had never been the fastest swimmer. Father was the quick one.
Speaking of which, Father was nowhere to be seen. That’s odd, thought Biande as she took a second look. Father loves the water. Where could he have gone?
With the end of that thought came the sound of rustling of grass behind her. Expecting it to be some sort of small creature she could watch, Biande turned, satisfied that she once more had something to do. But she was in for a shock.
“BOO!” yelled Father as he leaped towards her with a playful gleam in his eyes.
“Eeyaugh!” screeched Biande, taken completely off guard. Involuntarily, she jumped backward as well, sending her splashing down to the water below along with every ounce of self-accomplishment she’d gained earlier.
In the end, Biande had lost the game.

I'm going for the main box...I'm a bit of a newbie at RPing these...since I dont have one.
Username: Wyntre IceBlade Ulaya Name: Chistery Why did you choose that name?: It's the name of a Snow Monkey that was faithful to it's master. The second box ((the one I'm going for)) also looks more snow-ish Gender: Male Prompt Number: Prompt 3: It's a calm warm day, and your family's taking a swim in the lake. Meanwhile you sit on a rock, not far from the lake, being unsure about swimming. After some pondering, do you decide to take a dip with your family? if not, why do you decide not to? If deciding not to, what do you do instead? just sit on the rock, observing, or look around your settings? Response: The sun bearing down on the Ulayas that populated the area around the lake. It was a perfect day for a nice dip in the lake. Chistery laid a little ways away from the rest of his family. Sunning upon a nice flat rock. Watching his siblings swimming he debated internally the idea of swimming with them.
Watching the birds in the, then turning his gaze back to his siblings and parents. He was content sunning himself while his siblings kept splashing up the water.
“Hey Chistery! Come on in to the water. It’s nice and you’ll like it. The water is cool on the pelt.” Two of his siblings yelled out from the water.
Wincing slightly, “Hey stop that...” Chistery growled slightly, he didn’t really like water it seemed to make his fur a lot heavier then it already was. He watched the water move and flow, he was a bit leery of the water to begin with since the water moved but could also look just as still and solid as land. Placing his paw in to the water Chistery whimper it was cold and it made his fur heavy sneering at the water he hit at it again. He didn’t like it when things made him look like an idiot shaking his head he turned back to the skies. Watching the bird flying over head he could hear his family and siblings playing in the water, and calling for him. Looking over his shoulder again at the water he sighed, it was always so hard to choose between what he wanted to do and what everyone around him was doing.
All the Ulayas around him were swimming and carrying on in the water. He walked over to his father and whispered softly to him, that he was going to take a walk. A walk he thought would at least get him away from the water so that he could clearly think about why he didn’t really want to get in. It couldn’t really be because it made him heavy could it?
Walking down a shaded path in to the forest he looked about, ground, it was stable it didn’t move. The water the water moved, and you could sink. Chistery growled to himself, “I will not be afraid of the water...” as he slowly slinked further away from the lake.

Here's my attempt for the Newbie box! heart [Note:] I edited this once, because somehow an extra emoticon showed up at the end. o__O [Note 2:] Gah...I forgot to put in the code to make some text italic. That's what I get for writing this in Word first. I'm adding said italics, and that's it.
Username: Aethubryn Ulaya Name: Biande Why did you choose that name?: I think it’s a pretty name, and I like how it’s pronounced as the word “beyond.” Plus, I can create my character around that as a personality trait, in a way. (Sorry about the copy-paste here, but since I could only win one, I may as well keep my favorite name). ^__^ Gender: Female Prompt Number: 1
You're sitting under a shady tree watching your other siblings play in the sunlight. Being the most shy of the group you tend to keep to yourself but you hear a sound from someone behind you. When you turn to see it's a strange Ulaya you don't know walking towards you ... What do you do? Do you greet them or run away to your siblings? Are they nice and join you in the shade?
Response:
Beneath the willow tree she sat, bathed in the dappled sunlight shining through the leaves above. She was alone underneath the flora, yet still part of a group; in the field set out before her eyes, her siblings roughhoused with their friends. This sort of activity remained distant to her, something she longed to join but never found the inner will to try. Biande knew she would be welcome with open paws into the playgroup, but it seemed so…awkward. It may look easy to run, to tackle, to play fight, and yet whenever she thought about being part of that crowd, something held her back.
Why? What is the purpose of this game? she would say to herself. It has no real benefit, unless you plan to spend your life in battle.
Though there were some Ulaya who would argue, saying it built teamwork, communication skills, or one of many other opinions she knew was out there, Biande’s mind just could not budge from her own viewpoint. This was not what she wanted to spend her time doing. No, her interests were far from that world: Biande was an artist.
It was exactly this activity which occupied the sleek purple Ulaya at that time. The sun was in just the right position, casting the most beautiful shadows upon the playgroup. If Biande didn’t work quickly, she would lose the moment. Her left paw held down the sheet of white paper before her, the emptiness beckoning the young Ulaya to make it a masterpiece. Completely in her element, Biande’s right paw instinctively dipped into her inkpot as she squinted slightly, trying to catch a glimpse of the perfect fighting pose.
Wait for it…wait for it…yes! That’s it!
Swiftly, she put paw to paper and worked on her sibling’s outline. Being a fight, the pose she was drawing had passed in a nanosecond, so Biande could only work from memory. The quicker she got down the position, the less detail she would lose. Shading would come later – that was the easy part.
For many minutes she sat in complete silence, glancing up at the chosen sibling every so often to pick out those details not pertaining to the pose. One marking here…gem slightly askew…fur blown to the left from a breeze… Biande was so in tune with her artwork that she almost failed to hear the grass beside her rustle as another Ulaya sat down. Almost.
It was a little unnerving, having someone else staring at her as she worked. Added to that, a quick glance at the intruder’s paw told her this was not an Ulaya she knew – it was white with a deep green tip, a coloring unfamiliar to her. He remained quiet, however, and did nothing overtly to bother Biande from her work, so she pushed the issue to the back of her mind. It was, after all, a free country. She did not own this patch of land, and so he had every right to sit there and watch. With another quick look back towards her subject, Biande was back to work.
As time passed, though, the presence of the stranger grew more and more curious. Soon, Biande found that she could no longer keep him out of her mind. Who is he, and why is he here? Why is he so quiet? He hasn’t spoken one single word! She tried to get back into her drawing, but ever so slowly her focus slipped. If she didn’t do something about it, she would never finish her masterpiece.
“Who are you?” she snapped, turning to face the older male Ulaya, yet unable to lift her face to look him in the eye. She hadn’t meant to be so rude, but it just escaped her mouth that way.
He looked unperturbed by her brash comment. “My name is Lyrin,” he stated calmly. “I do hope I didn’t give you a fright.”
His voice was slow and pleasant, a good compliment for his handsome coloring. Biande wished she’d had the presence of mind to have kept her tone in check, but it was too late for that. All she could do was apologize.
“Oh, hello,” she responded meekly, a touch of pink flushing her cheeks. “You didn’t scare me, I was just…well, I was concentrating, and I…” She looked up into his warm brown eyes, “…I’m sorry I snapped. It was unkind of me.”
The young adult nodded, accepting the apology gracefully. “It’s no matter, and in fact, it was probably my fault. I should have introduced myself earlier.” He paused for a moment, letting his eyes roll to look towards the sky. Biande recognized this as a pose that meant he was thinking hard, for she did the same. Within a moment, his eyes rested back upon the young artist. “Your work is beautiful, you know. Such talent for a kit!”
Biande’s blush returned, and she smiled weakly. “Thank you,” was all the tongue-tied youngster could manage.
“I have a gallery, you see,” he continued. “Well, to be honest, it is no more than a couple of walls in my home. But to me, it is a gallery. I search all around the land to find work to display, and I must say, yours has caught my eye. By any chance, would you be willing to create a piece for my collection?”
Biande was awestruck. This total stranger admired her art? Nobody had even so much as complimented her before, and here was someone wanting to put her drawing on his wall?
“I…uh…well…” stammered Biande, still unable to put sentences together. It was embarrassing, but she couldn’t help it.
“Oh, there is no rush, little lady,” Lyrin went on. “I don’t expect an answer this moment.” He stood, then, and began to walk away. “I do, however, expect that we shall meet again very soon.”
Before Biande could formulate a reply, the mysterious Ulaya had disappeared over the horizon.

I will be entering the Free-For-All Box contest =3
Username: ATHeart Ulaya Name: Saoirse Why did you choose that name?: Saoirse means 'freedom' in Celtic, and I chose this to partly contrast the Snowprint and his protective-ness. Gender: Female Prompt Number: 3 Response:
Saoirse sat on the rock and looked at the water from the edge of the rock. She was peeking over the edge, unsure if she should follow her family or not. Being in the water made her feel... trapped. Out in the open she could see everything: extensive land and sky, as well as different plants an animals. She loved being out doors. Though the water was technically outdoors, Saoirse wasn't sure how it would feel to be underwater... Would she feel trapped like she was inside of a cave or something?
Once again, she peeked over the rock's edge. A slight wind blew over her, and she grew calm. Saoirse looked over at her family, and the urge to join them still called to her. A couple times her siblings had tried to call her into the water but failed. They could see that she was curious, but also knew that she was afraid. Snowprint called to her, a little worried.
"Sweetheart, come into the water," he told her.
Saoirse nodded her head, but she didn't have the heart to go in. She was just so... afraid. Not too far away, she saw a little frog jump into the water. She started to worry. It was so small... Would it be safe in the water?
After a couple seconds, she saw the frog's little head pop out of the water. She looked at herself and compared herself to the frog. "If a little frog can do it, why can't I," she thought aloud. Looking down at the water again in a pouncing position, she got ready. One... Two... Three! Then she jumped into the water with her eyes closed tight.
She could feel the water around her. It felt like there was so much going around her. Her eyes were still closed. Then something hit her. She stayed in the water, unmoving. The feeling of being underwater felt very familiar... Like breeze in the air! She opened up her eyes, and saw all the little fishes around her. Before going up to the surface for air, she paddled around for a little bit. The feeling she had felt as though she was flying, and she loved it.
Saoirse's head popped out of the water, and she saw that Snowprint was not too far off. He had been worried about her. "Glad to see you are finally in the water," he laughed at her.
There was a slight blush on her cheeks. She was partly red from her time underwater, but also because of her father's remark. Saoirse was glad though. The feeling of being underwater, like she was flying, made her very happy. She believed that being underwater gave her the greatest amount of freedom: flying underwater.

~Entering for the newbie box~
Username: dragonfire_kaen Ulaya Name: Eirwen Why did you choose that name?: Eirwen means "white snow" in Welsh. I chose it partly from her father's name, partly from the swirls of off-white on the box that remind me of snow, and partly, of course, because it relates to the prompt I chose. Gender: Female Prompt Number: 2 Response:
The world was white.
Howling winds drove ice like daggers through the air, stinging anything or anyone fool enough to be outdoors. The trees, barely visible through the swirling snow, creaked dangerously under their coatings of ice.
Paws over her head in a futile attempt to ward off the worst of the cold, Eirwen shivered uncontrollably. Her thick coat might as well have been thin summer fur for all the protection it offered against the biting winds in their fury. It had seemed like such a good idea at first. Snowprint, her father, had said this looked like it would be a big storm, but she had just thought that meant enough snow to maybe cover the ground. Eirwen had barely seen more than a few flurries this winter, after all. The strange cold crystalline things falling from the sky had filled her with curiousity, and she wanted to see more. But this... this was a howling beast, ready to swallow up small kits in one gulp.
The thought of trying to find her way back through the blizzard to her family flashed through her mind and was quickly suppressed. No. This was the perfect test. She was going to stay right here until the storm was over. She couldn't possibly be a coward if she did that. Could she?
Silent tears leaked out from between her eyelids and instantly froze fast to her fur. What would her parents do when they found out what a coward she was? Against her will she found herself reliving that morning, reliving her shame...
It was their first foray out into the world to meet others of their kind. Mara and Snowprint's new kits were eager to explore and meet new faces. All except for one, that is. The smallest of the group, Eirwen hugged her mother's side like a second shadow. She could hear noises from ahead, and it sounded like a big group. Then she came around a bend, and they were there, several adults shepherding a dozen kits along the path who rushed forward to meet the newcomers.
Eirwen had her eyes squeezed shut in a futile attempt at the "I can't see them so they can't see me" approach when a hot breath on her face made her eyes pop open. One of the kits was studying her curiously, head cocked to one side. "Come look at this one over here," she called to the others. A thunder of paws answered her, and in no time at all Eirwen was surrounded by a ring of equally curious faces.
"Aw, she's so cute!" "I wonder what her name is." "Hey there, little one. Want to play with us?" "I want her to play with me." "Do you think she knows any games?"
Eirwen wanted to run, but all she could do was try to press herself further into her mother's warm side and pretend she was just a purple patch of fur. Surely Mara would see what was happening and gently herd the others away. Maybe they could go somewhere quiet and practice her reading a little more. She could almost smell the quiet, faintly musty odor of her mother's big books, just waiting for her to open them and fall into a story. Mara to teach her, and Snowprint to tell them funny stories about the things he had seen. Her parents were warm, comforting presences in her life, never too busy for their shy daughter, and the recipients of her rare and tentative smiles and her unconditional love in return.
Mara twisted around to nuzzle her encouragingly. "It's all right, Eirwen. They're just trying to be nice. Go on. Make some friends." Eirwen stared at her mother dumbly as she turned back to the group of Ulaya who had engaged her in conversation about the latest novels. Mara was probably right, she thought in a daze as the other kits herded her off. Eirwen spent too much time shadowing Mara and Snowprint, content to simply watch her siblings in their play and listen to her parents talk of strange and wonderous things. It was about time she started to move out on her own, anyway. That lasted about until the other Ulaya started talking again.
"So your name's Eirwen, huh? That's pretty." "Who're your parents? Imagine having horns and a big fluffy tail like that!" "Or those funny things on her nose!" "Do you know how to play hide-and-seek?" "How old are you, anyway? You're awful small." "Hey, stop bothering her. She probably doesn't know how to play with us anyway."
Eirwen opened her mouth to tell the speaker she did so - and nothing came out. She tried again. A squeak. She had always been the quietest in the family, but nothing like this had ever happened before! Where were her words?
"Maybe she's a... a moot." "It's a mute, silly. She's just scared. Or maybe stupid. C'mon let's go find the others."
And so she was left staring after them, still trying to make the words come. Scared? Yes, she was scared. Too scared to tell her mother to rescue her, too scared to answer the kits who were only trying to be friendly. The words she loved so much had frozen in her throat, and might never come again, because she was scared. But she could not be scared of this storm, because she was her father's daughter and named after the snow he loved so much. Her shivers were beginning to fade as the cold seeped into her bones, and even the stinging bits of ice still being driven into her coat seemed far away, but she would - not - be afraid!
She knew she was going to die.
Awareness returned slowly. She rubbed her face with her paws until the tears melted and opened her eyes, but she still couldn't see anything. She was buried in snow, Eirwen realized, and it was surprisingly warm. Maybe that was what had saved her. She dug through it until fresh air hit her upturned face. It had stopped snowing. The air was brisk with cold, but nowhere near as frigid as before. The last few wisps of cloud were drifting away to reveal a brilliant full moon and stars. And around her... was a smooth white dreamscape. The crystalline trees in their coating of ice were the only things visible above an endless plain of snow that sparkled at her in the moonlight. It was beautiful. Eirwen slowly put her paw out and stepped out onto the snow. Each step sank in a few inches, but she moved faster and faster, until she was running. She danced across the snow, beneath the stars and the wide silence. She wanted to laugh with the beauty of it. Maybe she still couldn't speak, but she had braved the stormy death and survived.
She would never be afraid again.

This is for the newbie box. ^^
Username: Lady in the Golden Wood Ulaya Name: Manami Why did you choose that name?: Manami means love, beautiful, and ocean in Japanse. When I saw the box, it looked like wave patterns on it, so I immediately thought of the ocean. Then when I read the parents' information, I knew that she was going to have a loving heart. Manami perfectly matches this description. Of course, if the box is a male, I wouldn't name him Manami. xD -shot- Gender: Female Prompt Number: 1 Response:
Manami yawned. Her brothers and sisters were chasing after grasshoppers to and fro. The sunlight glimmered on their fur. Manami stayed cautiously in the shade of a tree. She yearned to play........yet she was afraid. The sun was scary. It glared in her eyes causing her temporary blind.......Nothing her parents did could get her out of the shade. She loved night......when that glowing yellow eye didn't stare at her.
Crunch, Crunch.
Manami immediately leapt up as if she had been shocked. She sprinted behind the tree whose shade she had stayed in for so long. She peered back catuiously. The footsteps she had heard belonged to a ulaya. Manami noticed that the ulaya had a band with two feathers stuck to it and dressed in clothes? She remembed that some ulaya were special and had tuffs of fluff over their fur called clothes. The thing that puzzled her the most, wasn't the clothes, the feathers......but the tuff of brown stuff on the top of his head? She tilted her head in question. The ulaya greeted Father and Mother. As if he felt Manami's graze on him, he turned in her direction.
Manami immediately jumped back behind the tree. She waited for several minutes until her heart started to calm down and decided that it was staff to peek from behind the trunk again. Manami turned her head back to the direction of her parents. Yet the strange ulaya had disappeared.........
"Hi."said a rather pleasant voice behind her.
"Ah!"screamed Manami jumping about a foot in the air. She swirled around, it was the strange ulaya. She was frozen........she wanted to run, run far away, but she had a strange feeling......Could it be curiousity?
"Sorry if I frightened you Manami. I'm Achyuta."said the strange ulaya.
"How did you know my name?"asked Manami timidly. She was tense and ready to sprint any minute now.
"I know your parents."said Achyuta shrugging.
"Ummmm.......what's that on your head?"asked Manami unable to contain herself. Achyuta gave her a questioning look and looked up.
"It's hair."Achyuta said simply.
"Hair?"said Manami curiously.
"Yes, hair or at least that what I think it's called."said Achyuta.
"Can I grow hair?"asked Manami excitedly. She imagined beautiful midnight hair on her head. She purred happily at the thought.
"I don't know......maybe when you grow up?"said Achyuta wondering if she would. Then he paused and asked, "Why aren't you playing with your siblings?"
Manami took a deep breath and said, "I'm scared of the sunlight."really fast.
Achyuta cocked an eyebrow and started to laugh. When he had finished laughing his head off, he got up from the ground and came face to face to a furious Manami.
"Ummmm....."Achyuta cleared his throat and continued. "Sorry about that. I didn't meant to lose control......but seriously, how can anybody be afraid of sunshine?"
"I am."said Manami annoyed.
"Ummmm.......have you ever actually been in the sun."
"Yes, of course."
"Really.....how many times?"
"Only once."
Achyuta raised an eyebrow and said, "If you have only been out in the sun once......how can you be afraid of it?"
"It blinded me!"said Manami.
"That was because you looked in it directly in the eye, it does that sometimes if you do that. Most of the time though, it's really comfortable. Come on! Get out of the darkness of the trees!'said Achyuta encouragedly. Manami shot him a death glare.
"You want me to die?"She asked through gritted teeth.
"Of course not. I'm just telling you that it's nothing to be afraid of."said Achyuta as he stepped out into the sunlight. It glistened warmly on his fur. "Come on! It feels wonderful!"
Manami started to tremble, half formed thoughts rushed through her mind. What was she supposed to do? Was she going to die at this very moment? Then, she felt herself moving, not deeper into the shade......but out into the sun, that terrible ball of fire. She tried to stop herself, yet she couldn't.
She had stepped into the sunlight for the first time since she had been almost blinded by it. It shone warmly on her fur like a mother hugging her child. A gentle wind blew against her fur, and Manami let out a sigh of wonder. It was as if something had been triggered and now she was leaping up and down chasing after butterflies. She laughed.
It felt good in the light of that golden orb.
