Xennik tapped the pen against his knee as he considered his next question. He was tempted to ask something stupid like, "What's your favorite flavor of icecream?" or "Do you like Mexican food?" But he resisted.
"What's your dream job? And what do you do for a living now?"

Kana blinked in surprise. She wasn't expecting him to ask her that question. A dream job? She had never really thought about it. She looked up to the sky like she did every other time she was thinking, perking her lips into the shape that looked like a heart. "My dream job..." she said softly. "In all honesty, I never really thought about it before." she paused. "I've been working at a japanese temple, situated on the road from Barton to Durem. I stumbled on it one morning while I was taking a walk, and the lady there was looking for a helper. I figured that since my name was japanese, I might be able to find out about my past if I surrounded myself with things related to it." she looked down to her hands.
"But I haven't." Kana smiled lightly, "I like working there though, it's always calm and peaceful. I have a great time with Kakiyu as well." she said. "Though I might have to get back to you on the dream job answer at a later time." she said with a chuckle.

Xennik was surprised. She didn't have a dream job? Wow. He thought everyone had a dream job. Still, her answer was satisfactory, so he handed over the pen, a little smile on his face. He hadn't thought of Kana as the type to work in a temple. She looked and acted like a business woman, or maybe a teacher, something social and involving. Well, maybe working in a temple was like that. He didn't exactly spend much time in temples, so he wouldn't know.

The fact that she had only been here for 2 to 3 years was probably why she didn't have a thought about a dream job. If she had her memory back, from before coming here, she probably would have one by now. Kana shrugged the thought about and gently took the pen from Xennik's hand. She smiled back at him and put her thoughts into a question. What could she ask him now? She wanted something that would reveal more about himself. She was flipping the pen over in the palm of her hands and suddenly stopped.
"What fascinates you the most in this world?" asked Kana with a smirk.

The answer came easily. "Magic." He figured he ought to elaborate, so he continued. "Magic, nature, this world in general. There's so much beauty naturally in this world, so much order and grandeur. It was that fascination for the natural and the unnatural that inspired me to pursue a career as a biologist. I started with magic, that was my escape, and then biology because I wanted to learn more. How did I end up with a natural ability for magic when others struggle for years? Was it genetic? Genetics fascinates me as well. That's another thing that draws me to ElderSpark; the concept of breeding. I love seeing the results, studying the patterns..." He realized he was rambling again and let himself peter to a stop. He almost apologized, but caught himself. "My turn?"

She smiled softly, her cheeks lighting of a soft pink. Was that supposed to mean that she was somewhat fascinating him? She certainly wasn't an ordinary girl next door, and even though she wasn't sure, there was most likely something magical about her. Kana felt like she was a product of nature as weird as that might sound. She nodded and gave the pen back to him, wondering where this game was going. They were getting to know each others, but where would that get them to? Were they getting any closer? So many questions whirled through her mind.

Now...what else to ask? He frowned thoughtfully. This little game had been his idea, yet he could think up no questions. Finally he asked, "If-" he was about to say 'I', but stopped himself, "If someone were to give you the perfect gift, what would it be?"

Kana was taken slightly by surprise by his questions. For a moment, she thought he might be talking about himself. That was impossible though, was it? She smiled softly and took the time think about her answer. She didn't want to come out like a superficial kind of person. Her back was getting sore from sitting in the same position for a while, so she took the time to lean her hands back on the bench behind her and stretched her shoulders a bit. "If the person knew that I liked them a lot, I would only want to them to tell me they would stay by my side forever." she said, looking up to the sky. "I know it sounds kind of cheesy." she giggled.
"But if you really want the answer to be an item, I've never really had a piece of jewelry of my own. A bracelet or a ring probably. But as long as it came from the person I like, it wouldn't matter what it is." Kana said, smilling at Xennik. "It's the intention that counts."

Xennik's heart was pounding so hard he was surprised that he could breathe. Just the way that she spoke, just the way that she stretched, every simple little movement she made caused his heart to flutter and his breath to come short.
He really liked her. It had been a long time since he'd felt like this about anyone. He'd never before felt like he could devote himself so fully to one person. He was always afraid of making a mistake, being rejected. Yet here was this girl - a mystery to them both - taking his breath away time and time again.
Kana, dressed as an exotic genie, had no jewelry of her own? That was an easy problem to fix! He smiled at her response. Jewelry. It would be easy to spoil her if all she wanted was jewelry. Jewelry he could do.
“Your turn.” He held the pen out for her to take, hoping that she’d touch his hand when she took it. He was becoming obsessed, there was no way around it.

She giggled when she saw the look on his face. "I know right?" she said, "I'm dressed like a genie, yet I don't own any piece of jewelry." Her eyes met with his and even though she didn't feel the need to explain herself, Kana thought she might as well do so. "These aren't real." she explained, waving her left arm in the air, clinging all the tiny golden bracelets together. "They are made of metal, but they aren't real gold. They were very cheap at the store where I bought this costume." she smiled.
She then nodded and leaned forward to take the pen. When she did, their eyes met and their hands touched slowly. Kana felt herself get lost into him. Never she would have imagine anyone having this effect on her. She wanted to kiss him so bad, but she didn't want him to feel uncomfortable.
Suddenly, she was brought back to reality by a voice coming from the house. It seemed like the Halloween party was coming to its end and the guests were starting to leave already. Did that mean she had to leave Xennik for the night? She smiled to herself and looked up at him. "I guess we should go. They probably have a lot of cleaning to do." she giggled. Deep down she hoped he would suggest they do something together, even if it was already late. She didn't want to have to leave him. Not yet.

Their hands touched. Their eyes met. Xennik felt certain that he was going to pass out, his heart was pounding so hard. For a few breif seconds, he was completely lost in her eyes. They remained in that awkward position, hands touching, staring at each other, until Kana finally looked away.
When she looked away, his hand breifly pressed to his heart. How did she manage to do this to him? And what had just happened? He felt the thrill of adrenaline that wouldn't let his heart slow down. He was dizzy for a moment.
He chanced a glance down at his feather and his heart nearly stopped. It was vibrantly purple, as it had never been before. He couldn't deny it any longer. Even his feather knew now. He was in love.
Dazed, he stood, offering his hand to her to help her up. Had it already been four hours? Time had flown. The minute he was finally feeling confident around her, it was time to leave. The irony.
He held her hand a little longer than needful before stepping away, heart hammering. "I wonder where Allani's gotten off to." Without even taking a breath he continued, "How are you getting home? I could give you a ride. Or, if you still have time, we could go to my place." Wow, that sounded bad. "I mean, well- you know - not to..." He flushed, looking flustered.

With his help, Kana let her hand in his and stood up from the bench. She looked around for a short moment and then looked up to Xennik when he let go of her hand. What were they going to do now? Say goodbye? For a minute, she felt her brain rushing to find an excuse to spend more time with him. Her blue eyes gazed over back to him when he spoke. Did he just invite her to go to his place? Kana felt her cheeks turn to a light pink. "Actually, I should go home." The words came out on their own. No! What was she doing?! "To... I should go home to check on the kyunrus!" she added quickly. She giggled to her stupidity.
"Jaenelle just recently had two babies, and it's not that I don't think she can't take care of them. I just like to make sure everything is fine when I'm gone for a little while." she smiled softly. "And I should probably change out of these clothes." Kana said, looking down at her genie outfit. "I don't live very far from here. I'll go get change, in the mean time you can go home and do the same if you like." She paused. "You can just give me your address, I'll come over once I'm done. Is that alright?" she asked sweetly. Just as she was about to step closer and take his hand into hers, she heard a high-pitched voice rushing over to them.
"Kana! Kana!" said Ukiuki, flying in their direction. She gently landed on her guardian's shoulder and smiled at Xennik. "Everyone is leaving! Is the party over?" she asked, looking up to Kana. Kana looked over at the pink pala and nodded, "Yes. We're going to head home now. Where is Allani?" she asked. "She was just behind me a few seconds a go." answered Ukiuki, looking around curiously.

Xennik was so embarrassed, he wanted to melt into the ground. She seemed just as embarrassed, and that made it worse. But then she started talking about the baby kyunru and he grinned. "Ah, yes, I'd forgotten that Jaenelle was one of the ones that bred." Kana, obviously, hadn't been the one who told them, but Xennik had done some of the paperwork on them when the eggs began hatching. "Excellent idea," he said, far more chipper now that he knew he wouldn't have to leave her presence for long (though he was a little upset that she was going to change out of the genie suit that she looked so dashing in). Maybe they'd be apart just long enough for him to pull it together. He'd already acted like such a fool around her...
He pulled a calling card out of his pocket (in his career, he was required to carry some at all times), and handed it to her as Ukiuki flew towards them. He returned the pink Pala's friendly smile, then frowned worriedly.
"Flight isn't one of her strengths. I'd better go find her." He touched Kana gently on the upper arm with his fingertips, he silent way of saying goodbye, then made his way towards the house, keeping a close eye on the ground for the Pala.

Kana smiled softly at Xennik and took a hold of the card. She looked down at it to make sure she could read the address properly, then smiled once more as he touched her arm and left to go find Allani. He had such a gentle touch that she felt guilty for wanting him to touch her more. "Well then, let's go!" she said, smiling at Ukiuki, still sitting on her shoulder. "Onward!" said Ukiuki, pointing towards the exit.
Kana made her way to the side of the walk and opened the closed fense to walk out of the backyard. She hurried into the streets and turned a few corners to finally arrive home barely 5 minutes later. "Jaenelle, we're home!" she called. No getting any answers, she walked into the living room to find Jaenelle and her baby girl, Neffiline, cuddling together and fast asleep. She smiled to the sight and walked over to her bedroom. Ukiuki jumped off her shoulder and landed gracefully on the large bed. She started taking off her costume, seeing Kana do the exact same thing.
"I'll be going out again, Xennik and I have some business together." said Kana. "You stay here and keep an eye out for Jaenelle and Neffi, okay?" She knew that it would mostly be Jaenelle keeping an eye out for Ukiuki, but she wanted her to feel somewhat important and responsible. The pala's eyes widden in excitement and nodded quickly. "I will go sleep with them. Ukiuki feels tired, because I played a lot with Allani." she said with her high-pitched voice. Kana smiled and nodded just as the Pala flew out of the room to join the sleeping kyunrus.
She hurried to change into a new set of clothes and put away her flashy costume. She didn't want him to wait after her for too long. After a quick look in the mirror, she fixed the few locks of hair that were falling around, grabbed her keys and headed out, looking the door behind her. The sky was now partially covered in clouds, but Kana didn't think much of it since the evening had been so beautiful.

"Please?" Xennik asked, a slight pleading tone in his voice as he unbuttoned the scratchy shirt.
"No." Biwa answered, crossing his paws as he lay on Xennik's bed. "I'm not an entertainer."
"Biwa, please!" Xennik slid the shirt off of his shoulders and tossed it in the laundry basket in his closet. "You know how she gets when I have guests over."
"Especially when you're entertaining young ladies." The kyuria added, giving Xennik a significant look.
Xennik looked over at him from the closet, where he was trying to find a shirt to replace the one he'd just removed. "How did you-"
"Well, let's see, you came dancing in the door with one of those sickening love-struck sighs you only find in Disney movies, and now you're having someone over and you want me to hide Allani. Plus, you left in a mask and you came back without it, without even noticing."
"Not hide her, keep her busy! Please. I never ask any favors of you." Xennik pulled on a black muscle shirt, detached his feather from his belt, and looked around for his hat. "I wondered what happened to that mask."
"What am I supposed to do? Let her ride me?" The kyuria spoke with such disdain that it was practically tangible.
"Anything! She's so tired she's about to pass out anyway."
"It amuses me that you're so worried about Allani when it's you I ought to be looking after."
"Hey! What is that supposed to mean?"
