I doubt any celebrity will go out and say they're a lolita. Plus, parents are going to go against it since they'll think it has to do with *****. Yes, there is Gwen Stefani saying she loves Harajuku girls or whatever, but those girls look AWFUL and wear headresses diagonally across their head. And I've yet to see anyone so far do that or call themself a Harajuku girl.

Eep. I knew a girl who called herself a Harajuku girl. She was all "I love lolita and when I listened to Gwen's CD I found out that Lolitas also call themseles Harakuku girls." And I had to explain to here what lolita was and that Harajuku was a place in Tokyo where people cosplayed on the weekends. Not just lolita, but ALL forms of cosplay take place in Harajuku.
dude. i had to explain the EXACT SAME THING to my friend because she heard gwen's new album.

she was also talking about 'vivienne west'. i was like, "um, do you mean vivienne westWOOD, the famous designer? confused "

XD Sad, but hilarious. I mean this is just a phase Gewn is going through. She'll hit it out with something else gorgeous and outrageous, but right now what Gwen wears is not Lolita.
...I wonder what would happen if Mana sat down and had a talk with her about Lolita...

I would pay in blood to see that... eek

I thought Mana didn't really.. "talk"
He doesn't...his publisist does it for him...but that would be so funny.

Exactly.

Even the idea of someone truely lolita or representing lolita in a respectable way being in the same building as Gwen Stephani is enough to whince over, let alone speaking to the cow. I say leave her to her delusions. Her mistakes will only make us laugh harder. And lead the stupid public further and further astray. You're all safe.

I don't think it'll really be a big deal. I mean, there will always be the psuedo-punk/goth girls that will be drawn towards the more gothic side of goth-loli, but once they see the mass amount of frills and pastel colors, they'll probably be scared for life and will go back to their bondage pants and plastic clothes and go "slash" their wrists. I was a bit worried when Gaia came out with the G-lol collection, thinking that every punk/goth girl would go out and buy them and claim to be lolita, but that really didn't happen. I mean, it probably is the most worn set on Gaia, but you don't see people labling themselves "lolita" because people still have that stigma about things lolita, thinking about the lolita fetish. If anything, it'll be accepted as a real fashion and not just some fad that some jrockers thought up with. I mean, it's been going strong for a long time, atleast underground(if that made any sense..), so I think just the fact that you/we can get more people actually into it, and not posers, is a good thing.

I can't see loli style becoming very popular now or in the future. It's soooo easily misunderstood and most people are put off just by the word "lolita" itself. Lots of people are really narrow minded nowadays as well.
But it will always have a strong and dedicated fan base because of the people who are willing to dress how they love to despite stares and strange looks.
It's too beautiful to fade away heart

I saw a shop a couple days ago....I should have taken photos (wish I had my camera) called Lollita (note the 2 Ls) and I almost bust-a-gut crying with laughter.

I've never seen mainstream fashion (of the Australian flavour) presented in such a boring way. The dresses, skirts and so forth and belts and what not in there were appaulingly boring, anyone stupid enough to considder themself fashionable in that crap should be shot.

Just another reason why you're all safe haha.

I'd love to see a boy at the mall dressed in Kodona. That would be kinda cool...

I would force him to sit and have some tea at the cafe' and tell me about his outfit and how he got to know the lolita fashion... Or mabye just attack him. Yah, one of those two.

I think I would probably do the second one redface
I would do the latter. I'd tackle him! I'd do the same with a decently good Victorian goth too...
If he was around my age, I would go up to him and ask him out. xd I love a guy who wears lolita.
If he was two years older than I was I'd still ask him out. I go for men who wear Lolita or Victorian Goth...they're alway the gentlemen.

haha I get my boyfriend to do it =P (you can kinda see in my pics with him that I posted in the picture thread. I agree that guys are super-attractive in Kodona, EGA dress ^.~

As for mainstream lolita alot of the points made earlier I agree with. I wear lolita all the time.. and though I get a few compliments... a majority of the people who look my direction think I was let loose from the circus whee
HotTopic is starting to put out some "lolita" style clothes like a dress and some skirts.. but they look too industrial and not right... (kinda like a hardcore american artist trying to draw anime style... it doesn't look right)
So don't worry guys.. if you like the style and it suddenly becomes mainstream... who cares!? As long as you like it~ nothing else should matter .... 3nodding

I don't think its going to get too popular. Most of the people I know either say its stupid, or say "Its cute, but I would never wear it." Lolita is for a select group of people with the right mind, the right sense of style, and who are more than a little creative.

I agree. most people don't have the right mindset to wear it. you said it perfectly.

I HATE to post this again but...
Serioulsy people, lolita should not be about WHERE you buy your clothes. crying

This is the dress I got a Hot Topic for homecoming:
http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/store/product.jsp?FOLDER<>folder_id=2534374302024145&PRODUCT<>prd_id=845524442086589&bmUID=1128101017930
I'm not fond of the model, but it's still a lolita style dress (and I think the name is cute too: Tokyo Doll Dress).

I do hate how it's not of good quality, but it was $64 so I don't really care 'cause it's not like my other dress that I spent over a $150 on.

Now I also can not stand these people that diss Hot Topic and the people who shop at the store.
I shop there. I know other people who shop there.
This hole "Goth is an architecture and ancient people. I'm nonconformist so I don't shop at Hot Topic. I won't wear anything that someone else already owns or buys after I buy mine" ideas bug me. They're unfair.
So what if I shop at Hot Topic every now and then? I'm gonna wear what I LIKE. If it happens to come from a mass producing store that is well known for its poor quality or if it's ordered from some unknown dress maker in China, WHO CARES?
I mean, really, how childish are you gonna be? It's clothing for christsakes!
I mean, I do not shop at Old Navy, but that's because of a bad memory from childhood involving that store. I know people who shop there. They sell cute boxers that I wouldn't mind getting a pair of for my boyfriend. It has nothing to do with "OMG Old Navy isn't gothic." or "Eeeew! Old Navy is so not kawaii! They don't sell anything lolita-esque in there."
I mean seriously. Does it really matter in the long run? No. Not at all.
And personally, I do find the dress I bought at Hot Topic to be truly lolita. Maybe not the best lolita dress, but it fits the desription. Sure Hot Topic is just trying to make money, but that's just what Baby, the Stars Shine Bright is doing, that's what Mary Magdeline is doing: trying to make money. So what if Hot Topic is going about this lolita thing the worng way, it's still lolita.
I mean, would you hate Mana if he came to America and saw that dress and bought it? Would you really? If you really feel the way you do, than you would hate Mana if he did such a thing.
Yes, I realize it's HIGHLY unlikely that Mana will do such a thing, but if he did...?

If you still don't see my point of view, read this journal that I posted on DA about an argument I recently got in with a friend over the same issue:

Quote:
And then at lunch today, Justin was a total a**. I mean yesterday he said that I was "too Hot Topic." Okay, no big deal. Maybe I am, even if I haven't bought anything from there in months and the last thing I did buy was 4 months ago and was for a friend not for myself. I don't see any problem with shoipping in stores. But Justin does. I don't think that because lately I've been buying most of my clothes at Charlotte Russe and the Body Shop makes me preppy. I like the clothes there, and they're at good prices (except Charlotte...@_@ ). And then I told him how Dan is taking me to see The Corpse Bride this Saturday and he starts going on how its gonna be such a bullshit movie because Hot Topic endorses it. This made me REALLY mad. I've been waiting for this movie to come out for over a year. This was before Hot Topic endorsed it and before I knew Johnny Depp was voicing Victor. I LOVE ZOMBIES. Plain and simple. He needs to quit being such an a*****e (seriously, he's been worse than Dan lately... >_< ). It shouldn't matter where people buy their clothes. It shouldn't matter what company endorses what you like. I mean, I support PETA, but not everything they do. PETA's not going to tell me to go ******** myself because of that. :/
And then he calls me Rebecca. His words were "The ******** b***h goes by Recca to be and cool and different. Her real name is Rebecca and I'm gonna call her that 'cause she's ******** Hot Topic chick." I then told him, "Hey, if you wanna call me by my real name, then it's Lisa. It was changed to Rebecca after I was adopted, b***h." (I was getting angry). I don't consider Rebecca to be my real name. I've been going by Recca since the 6th grade, and that was before I knew Hot Topic existed! I didn't find out about Hot Topic until Dani-cakes asked me if I shopped there. And besides, what I go by does not make me a "******** Hot Topic chick."
I know I'm not making any sense, but it made me really mad that I'm being judged like that by him. I've stood up for him when people have talked smack about him. He was my first friend at Gulf Breeze. But he just crossed the line. I seriously lost all my respect for Justin today. And just because he wants to be so original and different.
Well, if he wants to label me, then he CAN say that I'm "a Mana and Rob Zombie poseur who loves zombies, is a vegetarian, draws anime and anthro, and I will call her Lisa because that is her real name."

sweatdrop I don't mean to. It's just that some people don't check up on every thread. And so I decided to post it in every thread that mentioned something about boycotting Hot Topic or being against lolita becoming popular in America, etc.
I am glad that you agree with me, though.

With all the appearences of Goth Lolita fashion in the last couple of weeks, do you really think that lolita fashion is doomed or do you think everyhting is going to work out and lolita will never see the light of day?

i think its definately going down the same road as goth and punk. before you know it, its going to be warped even worse and incorporated in mallcore fashion.

eek I sure hope not....that would make me very sad...but theres not much that can be done about that.....huff
