His expression turned to one of tenderness as she leaned into him, and he bent his head to nuzzle her neck gently. "I don't know if I can promise that... I may not be a fighter, but if there's ever someone that needs my help, I could never just turn my back." He grinned sheepishly. "Call me corny or foolish if you want, but it's one of the few lessons that I actually learned from my parents. I can promise to try to be more cautious, though, if it'll make you happy."
He nosed another tear away as leaned her head against him, cringing visibly as she asked the question he was dreading, trying to figure out how he was going to avoid it this time. "I... um..." he drew in a deep breath, laying his head upon hers as he fidgeted nervously. There was no getting out of it now... "I... I'm not sure... butIthinkImightloveyou." He spat out the words in a jumble, half-hoping she wouldn't understand them.
Immediately he pulled away, taking a step back as he kept his eyes on the ground instead of her. "Ah... I should go now."

"I suppose that's better than nothing." Lifting up a leg, she wiped away the last few tears that decided to fall from her face. Her wings giving a small twitch as he laid his head upon hers. Ears moving back once again so they were out of the way.
The moment he uttered those mashed together words, her eyes popped open. Almost as if they were to spring from her head and roll onto the ground. Another blush graced her cheeks, but a small frown soon found its way to her lips as he pulled away. Lifting her head, she observed him for a second. "Your not sure? And why? Do you have some other place you need to be right this instant?"

"Well... I've never been in love before, so I couldn't say for sure that's what it was, but I don't think it can be anything else," he lowered his head with another sheepish grin, taking another step back as his forelocks fell over his eyes, which were dimmer than usual. "I... um... I didn't think you'd want to be around me much after I told you..."
She wasn't angry, and that was definitely a good thing... she wasn't disgusted, so that was even better... unless she really was and was just hiding it. That would've been awful... he shied away further at that thought, a distinctly uncomfortable expression adorning his features. On the other hand, she wasn't exactly leaping to reciprocate his confession, either- not that he'd expected her to.
"You can leave now if you want to... I'll understand." He grinned weakly.

"Do you truly think I wouldn't want to be around you much after you told me?" A soft smile took hold of her lips as she slowly closed the distance between them. "I don't think thats the case. It makes me want to be around you even more, Nahuel. I know now that you really do care and its not just some fleeting fancy. And why you were avoiding quite a bit of our earlier conversation."
Extending her slender neck, she nuzzled his cheek affectionately. Her tail giving a few fluid sweeps back and forth behind her. Wings twitching every now and again before she moved her head under his chin, lifting his own head upward. "I don't want to leave. Our time of knowing each other might be shorter than some Soquili, but I feel...." Nibbling on her bottom lip, she closed her eyes. "I feel like your someone I could find myself spending the rest of my life with. I love you too, Nahuel."

Lifting his head, he stared at her blankly for a moment, uncomprehending, as his mouth opened and closed a few times in confusion. She didn't want to leave? Or want him to leave? He looked down at her with wide eyes as a small smile graced his maw, and he returned her affectionate gesture as he closed his eyes. It may not have been a confession, but it was more than enough to make him happy.
Her next admission, however, knocked the wind out of him, quite literally. For a moment, it was as if he couldn't breathe, working to process the actuality of that statement. She... loved him? Really and truly? "Really?" he breathed, trying to find some hole in this fantasy. Was he dreaming? Feeling a sudden need to verify that he wasn't asleep, he turned and bit his own shoulder- no doubt looking very stupid when he yelped in pain, but he couldn't have cared less at that moment. He wasn't dreaming!
A smile brighter than any he'd ever worn before spread across his face, blinding in its joy as he laughed out loud in his happiness, rearing up on his bag legs and leaping joyously as if he were a foal again (which in many ways, he was), and pranced about in front of her foolishly. When his excitement died down a bit- the grin remaining, he met her eyes and asked softly, "You really mean it? You're not just teasing me or something?"

She laughed lightly at his reaction. Her wings fluttering quickly as she watched him prance around. Quite foolishly really, but all in all it was pretty cute. Never had she thought she would of gotten quite this reaction.
As he stopped, she pressed her nose to his. Her own blue eyes gazing into his. An air of seriousness now surrounded her. "Really. Words such as those should never be spoken in a lie. Its the truth and by all the gods I mean it. Truly. No teasing or playing around, Nahuel. I love you and thats a fact." A tiny grin parted her lips as she bumped her nose against his softly. "Even if you are a goof every now and again."

Nothing in the world could possibly have made his smile brighter as he nuzzled her happily, practically humming in his joy. He chuckled at her last statement, nodding as he nosed a wavy ebony forelock away from her eyes. "I wouldn't be me if I wasn't, right? Besides, I'm your goof."
For once, nothing about his inadequacies really mattered. He knew that they would surface to bother him again later about other matters, but right now, there was nothing that could bring him down from cloud nine. She loved him, despite all his shortcomings, his foolishness, ignorance, and obtuseness. If she hadn't said it herself, he would never have believed it.
"You have no idea how happy you've made me." No one could possibly wipe the smile off his face at that moment.

Another, lighter, round of laughter escaped her lips. "Yes, you certainly wouldn't be you if you weren't. And yes, you are my goof." Her eyes fluttered for a moment as he moved the hair from her eyes. A smile just about as bright as his own rested on her muzzle as she nosed at his cheek lightly. Letting her wings relax just a bit as she took in the moment.
It was sudden. But she had a feeling it was coming. That it might of come. And her intuitions were proved right. A second ago she was worried for his life, and now. A slew of old emotions came pouring back into her memory. Ones she had long since put aside to hide her own imperfections to the world. But that tale would come at another time.
"And you the same to me, love." That word. Used as a pet name for the one you cared the most about. How long since before? It felt like ages. Yes, she had thought she had love at first many moons ago, but as she had stated much earlier is was not to be. But now, now she had it. And she'd use this word of love as much as she could. Whenever she could around him. It was just too precious of a moment, of a circumstance to let it all go for nothing.

"Would you be willing to meet my family? I'm sure they'd love you just as much as I do! ...Well, maybe not just as much, but I know they'd love you..." he babbled on a bit in his excitement, nuzzling his head over hers in a loving embrace as he pondered his parents' reaction to the new love in his life. Surely his mother would love her, and his father would be proud to welcome her into their family.
His heart did a funny flip in his chest at the use of the affectionate term, his smile brightening even more, if it was possible. Never in a million years had he thought that things would turn out like this- it was a thousand times better than anything he'd ever imagined. "I love you," he said it clearly and proudly this time- she deserved to hear it, unhurried and sincere, as many times as she wanted to. "More than anything else." It felt good to be able to say it, to have it all out in the open.
As much as he was joyful, however, there was a lingering doubt that plagued his mind... what did he really have to offer her, besides his love? He knew she would never demand anything else of him, but she deserved much more than he thought he could give...

Roxy shifted a bit nervously as he asked if she would be willing to meet his family. She had never gotten such an offer before, but knew in the back of her mind that she would have to do such a thing eventually. What were they like? Did they all act as he did...or?
Giving another little flutter of her wings, she pressed her ear against his chest. Listening to the strong beat of his heart for a moment. "I guess that would be ok. Although I'm a little nervous about the prospect of such a meeting."
Her white pelt seemed almost to go paler as her cheeks turned a darker shade of pink. So many emotions running through her delicate head right now, it was almost over whelming. The flutter gave a whimsical giggle as she played out his words over and over again in her mind. "I love you too. More than anything else in the world."

His dark thoughts were banished for the time being in the light of her affection and unsure questions, and he hastened to reassure her.
"Aw, you shouldn't be nervous, you have nothing to worry about! You'll love them, too! Momma's the nicest mare there is, and Dad... well, Dad's okay when Momma's around." He grinned widely, tail beginning to sway back and forth like a dog's wagging tail at the prospect of seeing his family again and introducing her to them, of sharing the happiness that she had brought him with the loving parents that had raised him.
Nuzzling into her soft mane as she leaned against him, Nahuel breathed a soft sigh of contentment, finally coming to understand exactly why his parents had always been like this with each other. The feeling was something that couldn't be compared with anything else. "If it would make you feel any better, I could go talk to my mother about it before you come- I have some stuff to talk to her about, anyway."
Again, that giddy feeling that made his heart do flips came at her proclamation, and he almost fidgeted in his joy.

She gave a little sigh of relief at his offer. And then gave a little nod of her head, pulling back just a bit to look up at him. "I think that would probably be a good idea. I'm not too sure how your parents might react if you just strolled up to them one day and told them flat out without them ever hearing about me first."
Placing her nose against the side of his, she looked into his eyes for a moment during a bit of silence. Her smile growing wider as she started to giggle a bit more. "I hope your right. I'm not sure how I would deal with having to meet your parents if they were less than approachable. Perhaps once I meet them it'll explain your silliness."

"I'm sure they wouldn't be too put out, but I'll do it for you, anyway." He grinned as he touched his forehead to her own, closing his eyes briefly and savoring the serenity of the moment, of her presence. This was real, he assured himself with an equal measure of joy and excitement.
"I should go right away then. I can't wait to tell my mother." He smiled brightly again, almost dizzy in all his happiness. He truly had missed his family- his mother most of all- and could not wait to tell her the good news. Surely Roxanne would be welcomed into the family with open arms- er, hooves... whatever that analogy was.
Reluctantly, he stepped back from the affectionate embrace, nuzzling her cheek one last time before turning to leave. "I love you, I'll be back real soon, okay? And I'll bring you some more flowers when I come back!"

Nodding her head, she frowned lightly as he moved to leave. "That would probably be a good idea. I'll wait here for your return." Her wings gave a little twitch, wondering how long it would be until he was done with talking to his family. Hopefully not too long.
"I love you to. Have a safe trip." Flicking her tail, she turned back towards the field of flowers. Looking for something to preoccupy her time while he was gone.
