"Thanks man, how much do I owe ya?" He said taking out his wallet again. "By the way, it seems like the boys are making plans for themselves." He said with a laugh. "Here, so you want my number? We should get together sometime so the boys can play." He said looking down at the little guys Kale obviously enthused that Tanner liked his idea and Tanner seeming to becoming more comfortable around Kale.

"Oh, are they now?" Marshall said, glancing down at Kale as he typed in the price for a gallon of ice-cream.
"Uh-huh! I'm going over to Tanner's house!...Or, um, Tanner's coming over to our house?" Kale wondered, confused.
"Heh heh, well, thats good to know. That'll be $8.78 with tax. Oh, and I'll give you our phone number just in case." Marshall said, checking the clock. Ahhh, thank the lord, his shift was over!

"Alright then." Don said as he laid the money out on the counter and then reached over for a napkin. He looked around for something to write his number with, and snagged a nearby pen. He scribbled his number on the napkin and haneded it to Marshall. He seemed a little excited himself, it made him proud that Tanner was starting to make a freind, he hoped the boys would make fast freinds, he was starting to worry that Tanner was becoming too lonely of a child, or too dependant on on him.

"Alrighty." Marshall said, pocketing the napkin with Don's number, digging around in his pocket to find a "business card" for his writings. Name, address, and telephone were on it, so it'd do. "Here ya go." He said to Don, handing him the small piece of paper. "Oh, jeesh, we gotta get going soon." Marshall said, looking up at the clock.
"Well Kale, say goodbye to Tanner."
"...Can he come over to play?" Kale asked innocently, looking up at Marshall with pleading eyes.
"Any time he wants to!" Marshall said happily to the small rodent boy.

Don took the card and slid it into his wallet, "Alright thanks, I'll give ya a buzz some time this week then." Don said with a smile. "Well then I won't keep ya any longer, talk to ya soon, it was nice meeting you Marshall." Don said grabbing the ice cream and tucking it under his arm, then turned his attention down to the boys."You say goodbye too Tanner." He said to his son.
"Bye Kawe, thanks fow tha pictuwe." He said with a childish smile, his first real expression since he came in.
Don scooped Tanner up in his other arm as if Marshall weren't jealous enough, his strength to hold the over weight tot in one arm would be sure to make him a little envious. "Well then I guess I'll be seeing ya later, have a good evening." Don said with as much of a wave as he could manage as he headed to the door.

"Bye Tanner! Thanks for the picture!" Kale said happily. Even if he probably didn't even realize it himself, Tanner was the first friend he had ever really made.
Damn...Strong...b*****d... Marshall thought bitterly with slumped shoulders before shaking it off, picking up his feather-weight son, "Alrighty Kale. Lets head home, shall we?"
"'Kay!' Kale said happily, the picture of a palm tree in his hands firmly.
