We were outside taking a break, and everyone was wtih their sections. In ours there were 2 freshman trombone (1 is me), and two seniors. We were talk about somehting that had to do with religon. Well a few minutes later, one of the seniors asked me If I knew what the cirsle of fourths/fifths was. Well I thought we were talking about religon still, and not music, so I said, "does that have to do with witchcraft.?" I didnt even mean to say that. It just came out. I was so embarresed. And whats worse, Is I thik they went and told the band director what I said.
But yeah, I like Band Camp too.

Band Camp... What's not to like? xd You get to start waking up earlier in the morning and it takes up over a third of your summer! It was the highlight of my summer.

Ditto...I can't believe I'll be in my third season come next June. gonk

I moved to a different country...and I still attended the 'Purple Pride Marching Band' band camp. Seriously, we moved to Canada December of 2003, and last fall we were visiting Alabama where I used to live and we got up at 7AM to go to band camp. We got to help all the little newbies learn how to march! "ROLL YOUR HILLS! IF YOUR MOM WAS IN THE STANDS SHE SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE 'HI MOM' ON THE BOTTOM OF YOUR SHOES!" That was so great! But those little brats made me sit in last chair instead of first chair for music practice. I couldn't even sit in my own frickin chair. I would be section leader if I hadn't of moved...*sigh*

what i love about band camp is that we always play pranks on our director.

Water balloons some days, hiding the doctor beat or killing the battery on purpose to avoid pain, and even sun-tanning when we have 3 hour sectionals and he leaves the percussion in my care! we eat cookies, play in the football field sprinklers when they come on and even paint the field.

When we get working though, our director is highly impressed cause we have a tendancy to finish working the whole program in 3-4 days so we just run it over and over.

It gets boring but when he leaves us alone... Yayness!

Band Camp.. Oh, the memories..

This past summer was my first year at band camp. I'm a freshman... was very new to the environment because I've never really been much of a band geek.. I decided to join colourguard.. Thought it would be fun.. (Which it is!)

Anyway.. I was on vacation for 2 weeks before band camp started, so I missed freshman week and pre-band camp week. Got home the night before band camp starts. Next day, Sunday, leave for band camp.. Woo and Hoo! Made the 1 1/2 hour commute to ETSU where band camp took place.. Didn't really talk much on the way there.. Only had a couple really good friends in band at the time, and they were on the other bus. xp We get there.. And the first thing we do is go out and start drills! Since I missed the 2 previous weeks of fun, I had no idea how to march. Haha, I kinda wandered aimlessly about for the first few minutes before I got the hang of it. Next day nothing exciting happened, 'cept I finally learned the flag work. Missed out on that, too! Haha. The next day at dinner (this is Tuesday by now..) while hanging out with my friends at lunch, we made a wonderful discovery! The Shakupungee! Yummy drink.. Made by mixing Sprite, Coke, Dr. Pepper, Hawaiian Punch (The fruit punch kind..), Lemon-lime Powerade (very little of this...), and a couple packs of sugar! They give you an insane sugar high, too.. Me and Kennley had four each... We didn't stop laughing for about an hour... Man, it was great.. Wednesday I forgot sunblock and burnt to a crisp! That wasn't cool.. Thursday was unexciting.. But Friday... Oh, Friday.. Last day.. Y'know how all of those band camp stories start with "This one time at band camp.."? Yeah.. Well.. This one time at band camp, someone stole a tractor and ran into a couple of cars.. They had the police there and everything investigating it. I don't think they ever did find out who dun it.. It would've been positively hilarious if the cars hadn't been run into.. But, whatever.. That's my band camp story!

Ahh... band camp. I'm a freshman and so this was my first band camp. *Sigh*

We're a tiny band, I think about 70-80 of us or so. Only 8 clarinets, 1 tuba, two barry saxes, 11 flutes... yadda yadda yadda.

Mr. Lovell had to stand on a ladder to see us all.

My clarinet fell apart every single time I tried saluting.

the Junior drum major is a junior in the clarinet section, and one day during sectionals, she had a latte right before the sectional, so while we were playing Flight of the Condor she kept shouting "FLAP YOUR WINGS LIKE A CONDOR!"

We refer to our senior drum major as God. biggrin

Umm... Well, we discovered that we're the only squad of entirely underclassmen, which makes us so damn cool.

Whenever we did morning marches, the field was wet and we'd all get wicked mad at our wet sneakers.

For some reason, the bases and the flutes would come and infiltrate our sectionals.

Us and the flutes had a 'HUT!' off.

We came up with the "Mambo Hut", which is when the Durm major yells "Detail, atten HUUUUT!" insanely grouphly, and we all point our instruments at each other.

We laughed at the bands that have stolen our moves. Tsk, tsk...

Umm, all I can remember. biggrin

I love band camp. What I don't like is the stupid dance we have at the end of the week. It's mandatory. Gr.

I remember once, my friend Andrea and I were looking for dates. We wrote down our room number and our room's phone number on pieces of paper and threw them at people. Later, this guy Spencer called and wanted "to talk to Adrian". I laughed so hard and called her Adrian for the rest of the week. It was kind of a you-had-to-be-there moment.

DiscordantNote

Heheh...he called you bassoons! (Yes, 'f*****t' means 'bassoon' in German and Spanish.)

It's faGOTT, actually. One G, two T's. (Fagotto, in Italian.)

Oh Boy! Band Camp. Times where the sun is shining in your eyes and you listen to your drum major, that sux cuz she can't keep time. And there's always the fun of teaching the Nemos of your school how to march and stand at attention. Oh how much they hate you after all that. Oh but the fun part about it is that you get to yell at them. You get to hear everyone complain and gripe and grone. And the section leaders, o boy, this is the fun part! We get to give people push ups. HaHa! Although when you get to UIL contest it's all worth it.

I'm starting to miss it! crying

At band camp all freshie guys are FORCED to dress in drag and do a weird task, such as liking wipped cream off of the hairiest seniors ches, where a peice of bubble gum could be found, then u had to blow a bubble(the same senior had to get his legs shavesd by a freshhie to :X) i had to sing kariokie, and i was dissapointed in my makeup they didnt do a guud job lol, then all freshies had to do KP (kitchen Patroll) duty, which means being senior COMPLEATE slaves like hand stirred milkshakes and frshly squeezed orange joice, no pulp.

Ahh band camp... My favorite time of the year... when the frumpet player takes off his shirt and lays down on it in the grass and tans instead of playing which causes him to get yelled at. (but we get a nice view anyway XD)

The crazy stunts like the chaperones (all female) stealing Ralph, the Senior Boy's Mascot (long story involved behind that), holding him ransom for three bags of regular M&Ms and 2 bags of peanut M&Ms... which leads the senior and junior boys out on a rampage, duct-taping fart-bombs to their chests, donning camoflauge, ski-masks, and painball visors, and ceran-wrapping people to their beds as hostages.

The room-trashing of new band members, and hanging instruments from the ceiling with string.

And most of all... the air-conditioned practice room where we go in the afternoons to practice and not march. 3nodding
