"W-What do you want...with my card?" She asked so softly she wasnt sure if it had even left her thoughts. Hikari didnt have much possesions in the world, not since that son of a- took over...

Igor

Igor muttered, suddenly turning from his positing on the sofa and yelling at the man at the piano: "Nameless! I've told you, sir! Please, tell our clients why they've been summoned to the Velvet Room. It would really make less work for us."

Returning his attention to Hikari, Igor shook his head and said, "I do apologize, my dear. So very sorry that you weren't given an explanation of your circumstances." Leaning against one of the cushions of the sofa, he breathed in the smoke of his pipe. "We are the residents of the Velvet Room, employed by the being known as Philemon to guide certain people in this world. Philemon recently became aware of Sehket's presence in this world; quite unexpected, I assure you. Sehket does not belong here in the least."

Taking the pipe from his mouth, Igor paused, staring closely at it before reaching under his cushion to refill it. "Ah, and that's where you come in, my dear. Philemon requires your help... You see, he can not directly intervene in the matters of this world, but he can give you the power to influence things within it. On the Other Side... That is, in the world on the other side of the mirror, there is another creature, another god, or another demon that exists who is a reflection of 'you' in this world. Although you're weak, that 'you' on the Other Side is capable of opposing Sehket, threatening his control on this world.

"So...we wish to summon the 'you' from the Other Side into this world. And to be able to do that, we require your Tarot Card as payment for the summoning."

"A...demon...?" She wasnt entirly sure she wanted to bring something like that in the world. But then again he did say a god as well, did he not?

...and as long as it didnt eat her...

...and it WOULD help with the problem.

She pursed her lips in thought for a moment staring first and Nameless and then back at the man with the weird device. She closed her eyes attempting to think before opening them again and reaching into the chest of her pink shirt revealed the Tarot card that had been hiding there.

She held onto it tightly for a moment before taking a step towards Igor, holding the card out towards him.

Quickly biting off the last bit of meat from the apple's core, Elliot casually tossed the remains by the roadside as they walked. Adlei adjusted her hood constantly, nervous that some passerby might recognize their faces and summon Peace Enforcement units.

"Don't worry so much, Adlei," Elliot whispered, wrapping an arm around her shoulder. "People are moving about now. It'd be difficult for them to spot us among the faces."

However, as they rounded a corner, Adlei felt the arm around her tense suddenly. Looking ahead, she saw a young man approaching, followed by a dog that appeared rather tame.

"He's got a dog with him...think he might be one of their Eyes?" Adlei leaned in closer to her companion, her eyes narrowing on the face of the approaching man.

Eli had his own way of traveling the streets... it mostly consisted of glueing his shoulder to the sides of the buildings, avoiding eye contact with the other citizens, and trying his best not to trip over Mutt.

Mutt, of course, excitedly wove in and out of people, boxes and other random objects several feet in front of Eli, before rushing to follow at the human's heals, and then dart forward again. He kept a big goofy grin plastered to his face, and his tail gave away his chipper mood in a heartbeat.

Igor

Pressing buttons on the machine furiously, he paused, then placed one part of the device to his ear. "Hello? ...Hello? Oh, goodness. Yes, we certainly are getting bad reception today. I'll make it quick then. ...Ah, it is that girl! You're quite correct. ...Yes. ...Yes. Everything is prepared on this side. Send her over in five minutes. ...FIVE. Yes, please. ...Ok, thank you so much."

As the conversation concluded, Igor placed the parts of the machine back together, then drew a small face mirror from beneath one of the sofa cushions. Taking Hikari's Tarot Card in his fingers, he slided it into the mirror, as though the glass surface was liquid. After the card disappeared, only small ripples remained where it had entered the mirror.

The lights of the Velvet Room suddenly grew weaker, until the forms of the room were once more swallowed by darkness. As the heavy blackness cloaked the room, it choked the music of Nameless and Belladonna, the sounds that were once familiar fading into silence. Moments passed, and then abruptly whispers could be heard from above. These whispers condensed, growing more intense, until it sounded as though a swarm of humans were all speaking at once.

The voices grew forms, strange, ghostly figures that entwined with each other near the ceiling of the room. From the mass of spirits, a single one with the glow of a summer rose, descended towards the floor of the Velvet Room. Wisps of her spirit caressed Hikari's arms, her voice the sound the voice of children laughing in a warm home:

"I came from a place beyond...a happy home. Oh? But you are also me, and you seem so troubled. Keep light! I won't allow that man harm you!"

As the spirit's light seemed to grow more intense, Igor beckoned it to an open box in his lap. The spirit was drawn into the chest, and the man snapped the lid shut quickly.

Moments passed and when it seemed time, Igor slowly opened the lid of the container, revealing an infant inside, her eyes lively and playful.

Hikari stood perfectly still, her eyes tightly screwed shut, as the spirits surrounded her. Her heartbeat was so loud she could hear the pounding in her ears, and she was certain that the ghosts around her could hear it as well.

But at the voice of Parvati Hikari instantly relaxed. She opened her eyes to stare at the rose like figure. She nodded at her words and then watched as Igor quickly trapped the spirit in the box.

She closed her eyes again and breathed in and out slowly, attempting to calm herself. Only to see a baby in front of her when she opened them again.

"Uh- I...uh..." No proper words came to her mind as she moved gracefully across the room to where teh child was.

Timidly she picked up the girl, unsure if it was allowed. But the soft happy cooes of the babe calmed her once more. Hikari watched the child intently before looking back at Igor wondering what was to come now. Was she allowed to leave? Or did they still want her around here?

As Emi finished the cake she looked out the window as she heard the sound of thunder and saw the light rain and just sighed, she though for a moment or two as she stood up...it was just recently that she had felt like...well..crap...when it rained...and the memories of when she awoke and from there on only really haunted her when it rained, why she wondered. But shaking that though out of her mind was the only thing she could do for now, for she never did have the answers...

grabbing the small black book (which was basically a "id" card for her shop and also the directions to get there) she put it in her pocket and left her shop, closing the door and locking it behind her. She remember the sheet that she crumpled up early this morning....something about the sheet continued to bug her...the name of the lord also bugged her also. Shruging her shoulders about it trying to hide it within her, but it continued to bug her....she decided to attend this execution, maybe she was suppose to maybe then it would reveal something....

first though as Emi though, she had to make a quick trip, to the Kensington District, just to see what she would find there to satisfy her curiosity for items for the day.

Annie piled her hair on top of her head, examining her face in the mirror. She turned this way and that, peering at her reflection with scrutiny in her eyes. Yes, yes, her nose was very swollen, and Annie supposed if she wanted to look her best for the execution, she'd have to do something about that. Annie sighed and let her hair fall back, giving in to gravity. What was the best way to reduce swelling? Ice, that was it. But where in a bakery could she find ice?

...oh. The ice box. Annie sighed and exited the bathroom, nearly whacking herself with her cane as she opened the ice box, and scooped up a few pieces of ice. Then she wrapped them in a rag and placed the bundle delicately on her nose. It stung a little, but other than that, it seemed to work. The throbbing subsided, anyway. Annie turned back into the bathroom and blinked, as Hikari's dress was still lying on the floor. Annie picked it up curiously. Would it fit her? A quick once-over said no, it wouldn't, because Hikari was much slighter in the shoulders than Annie. Besides, it was blue. Annie hated blue. "I suppose I'll have to wear something else, then. But I suppose I could put my hair up..."

Without looking at his face, Adalei sensed that Elliot was struck terrified of the mongrel that was approaching them. The arm he had laid across her shoulders was now stiff, ready to uncoil with some fearsome power if needed. Observing the dog at such close proximity, she realized that this creature had been somehow tamed in spite of the circumstances in Wynander. It did not appear to be vicious in the least. However, it would be difficult to convince Elliot.

"Elliot, let's...let's be on our way," she whispered, pushing back against him to force him to move.

Taking the pipe from his mouth, he said, "That concludes our business with you today. From now on, that child is your responsibility. I'm certain it will be difficult, at least for a while. Hardly anybody can raise a child under the current conditions, but... Should she come of age, you will find that the investment was worthwhile."

Igor returned his attention to the papers, adding, "That is all. Continue with your life, just remember that that child is important to the future of your world."

Hikari nodded slowly, in a silent understanding. Hugging the infant to her, she turned on her heel and started to leave. Then as if on a second thought, she turned and offered them the warmest smile she could muster.

"Thank you." She said, hopefully loud enough for all of the occupants to hear. Then she left, feeling mighty proud that she hadnt stuttered, nor faultered in her thanks.

She slowly walked and listened to the Babe in her arms make pleasent sounds while taking in the area. When she had left the Vevelt room she sighed and looked around.

Was she really ready to go back home? She wasnt so sure she was.

So instead of walking home she walked the opposite way to see what she could find, all the while pondering over what to call the pink child.

Eli was conveniently oblivious to the pair not that far from him now. Head down, head down, head down. He really only had a one-track mind.

Mutt, though, was wonderfully more skilled with multi-tasking. You weave between these two puddles, run around a rock, run back through the puddles, then roughly crash into the human. The dog had momentarily satisfied himself with gripping Eli's hand in his mouth, but his ears popped up when he noticed two more figures ahead of them. To greet them!

So off he bounded, without a care in the world. He was still multi-tasking of course, so his bounding didn't seem directed straight at the new people. More of a zigzag between sniffing something here, and something here, and something there, and something over there. Oh smokes, he passed the new people in the sniffing! He ran back toward them in excitement, gently bumping into Adalei's leg and shoving his head into her hand, whining his hello and wish to be petted.

Eli did notice Mutt's movements, and also knew how most people would react. He knew how he'd reacted; poor dog almost got his head bashed in when he startled Eli. The youth gritted his teeth for a split second, before resolving to speak... just as Mutt greeted Adalei. He formed the words faster than he'd wanted to, "Hey! -Oh, he won't bite you! Just... bein' friendly." Eli's face bore a sincere look of apology and embarrassment. That stupid dog was really a hassle.

Just as Elliot raised one arm threateningly in Adalei's defense, Eli's voice caught his attention. He glanced down at the face of the dog as Adalei raked her fingers through the creature's hair, attempting to show her companion that there was no trouble. However, she continued to sense the tension in his body.

"R...Really? Quite a friendly dog. You see, Elliot, he means no harm." Adalei said, attempting to soothe her friend. "Not so common these days. What do you call him?"

A groan escaped the dusty cellar where Rubido was groggily untangling himself from his threadbare sheets. The only light in the room streamed from a small, ground-level slit of a window through which the silhouetted feet of passerby droned. The young man blinked hazily at it, squinted, and tried to remember why he had to get up today.

'Oh yeah. Bread. Work. Guess that makes sense.' Shaking his head, Rubido slid into one of his simple outfits and washed as well as he could in his portion of the extra rainwater. Once he was very much awake he climbed upstairs and slipped out the back door of the woodcraft-shop. He stretched as he broke into open air.

The harbor busily went about its business around him, though with an inordinate amount of noses tucked into little white flyers. Relishing the movement, Rubido broke into a trot to find one not already ruined or over-torn.

Hikari attempted to keep her mind off of the many strange occurrences that had just happened to her during the hectic seeming morning. However, the attempts were fruitless as the soft music and song from the velvet room played over and over in her head, and the baby that was in her arms tugged at her hair in a playful manner.

She looked at the girl with the pink hair for a moment before hugging the girl close to her and doing a small twirl in the middle of the street that she was walking down. The girl giggled playfully her hands tugging harder on the new ‘mother’s hair. Hikari winced and slowly pried the toddlers fingers off of her short locks as she walked.

Before she even knew it she found she had past Kensington District and was walking into the docks. Her eyes took in the small stores that sold baskets and pottery. Her mind wavered as she took in the objects, every once and awhile finding goods that brought her closer to the shop.

Why hadn’t she come to the Harbor before? She couldn’t remember. But for some reason she felt relaxed. “Look at this....” She spoke before pausing. Wait- what would she refer to the child as? She had not expected having to chose a name for a child...ever. She shook her head softly. “Isn’t it pretty?” Her voice was barely a whisper as she watched the child take the basket into her small hands and stare at it in awe.

It wasn't long until Rubido spied a stack of flyers pinned crudely to a wooden table and pressed his way through the loose crowd to snatch at one.

"At sunset on the Fourth day of Summer the traitor named Marius Quinn shall be executed for treason with his companion at the Courtyard of Wyander's Grand University for treason against Our Lord Sehket."

Well, that was news. Rubido bit his lip and re-read the paper. He had always supposed all of Wyander, to an extent, was accustomed to death- but he had never been all that comfortable with the concept himself.

"I suppose I ought to go anyway." He muttered vaguely. Adding the qualifying 'To show my support for the guy.' silently.

The University was a little odd, though. There were probably better places to do it; what point was he trying to make? Hardly anyone could afford lessons at "The Grand University" these days. He smirked. After all, wasn't it a barracks now? 'Maybe the 'gentles are standing up too high for 'im.'

Killing the thought, Rubido looked up to see a stranger in blue wander wide-eyed through his harbor. She was dressed fairly well for most people in Wyander, but the child she held was more than eye-catching enough for both of them. Not only was her hair bright pink -a dye that must have cost a fortune- but the babe was wearing Sehket's own ransom in gold! What sort of noble decks out their kid and wears hardly any jewelry themselves?

He stared after them curiously, wondering how they had managed to not be robbed blind yet and searching for the requisite bodyguard.

None. Surprising.

He ran after them, only slowing his gait when he was a polite distance from Hikari. " Excuse me, Miss," He flashed what he hoped what was a charming smile, his manner genuinely friendly. "New here?"
