Cross slash, his reward for defeating that strange woman, was an incredible boon. It allowed him to strike at a speed he'd never imagined, and reach heights of offensive prowess that he'd not thought possible. He was an absolute monster now: ripping through monsters with complete, reckless abandon. His focus now was on finding the absolute upper limit that he could hit with the technique, and the best way to do that was to murder things with it. As per the norm, Alyx' favorite things to murder were spiders. They were the standard by which his attacks were measured, and that could really explain a lot about his personality. HP: 20 -40 to all combat rolls. Immune to effects.

d100+40+5(ring) Metalwork Arte: Reforge ingot
1/3 Soft Ingots 2/2 Brittle Ingots 23/25 Coal 2/5 New ingots
Rota waited for the new ingots to cool before quenching them in the water barrel. He set them on a workbench before looking at his cast again. Seemed like it needed additional time to cool before he could use it again. No matter. his methods before were working just fine. That was just a good note on top. He placed the last soft ingot into the smelting cup. Once this one was done, he would be able to excise the brittle ingots as well. He couldn't wait for it. His work demanded quality, and these few remaining blemishes were not part of that standard. He placed another coal in the fire and began working the bellows. Alyxandeyr needed a shield. It had been too long since making Gloomshard for him to have not made the companion piece he had promised he would make. He needed to focus on that. It was inexcusable. He also needed to upgrade the weapons of he and alyx. He knew that the weapons they were using were only a pitiful fraction of their fullest potential. That needed to change as well. Using tongs, he once again pulled the smelting cup from the forge and poured the liquid contents into a standard mold. Not the classiest, but broken things don't need fixing.

Yeah. Alyx murdered it. Just absolutely destroyed it. His shining blade rent the air and he struck the spider four times in the space of a second, dicing it into pieces small enough that when it shattered, it became a fine red powder. It was the closest to pink mist that his game settings could come to, and he was happy to get there. This left him with the next option for testing his proficiency. Without going back through the dungeon, he had a few choices for monsters that could actually withstand his new assault, and there was one that was only a few minutes away. The Gloomqueen was probably beginning to miss him. He decided that he'd go pay her a visit soon. d100+40+5(ring) Metalwork Arte: Reforge ingot
0/3 Soft Ingots 2/2 Brittle Ingots 22/25 Coal 3/5 New ingots
Rota waited for the ingot to set. Cursory glance showed that it would be of good quality, so he was proud of that. While he waited he inspected the two before and was saddened that they seemed a little lackluster. They seemed average...he wasn't a fan of that. At least he could use his average ingot for weaponsmithing practice. He needed to get better at that. Hell, he could use the armor practice as well. In any case, the ingot was set enough to quench and he did so. It was time to move onto another ingot now, and brittle was the target. Once these two were gone, the blemishes on his record would would go with them. he placed a brittle ingot in the smelting cup and another coal in the fire. Working the bellows again, Rota kept the flames nice and hot for the ingot to melt away the inherent impurities. He needed to get this done so he could move on to bigger and better things. Eventually he pulled the smelting cup from the flames and poured the contents into the mold again. he wondered if the traditional way was better or not at this point for smelting.

d100+40+5(ring) Metalwork Arte: Reforge ingot
0/3 Soft Ingots 1/2 Brittle Ingots 21/25 Coal 4/5 New ingots
Rota observed the cooling ingot, and it seemed unique in quality to any ingot he had made previously. it wasn't as good as his Legendary ingot, but it was better than exceptional. He kept finding more and more grades that he was breaking. it was a mark of pride to him. As he quenched the ingot, he thought about when he would truly see the best ingot his hands could create. he placed the cooled ingots with its kin and continued with the final ingot of this session. He placed the final brittle ingot in its proper place, as well as one last coal. He worked the bellows, keeping the heat even enough to heat the ingot and begin scorching away the imperfections. It was finally time to excise the trials of the past to reach a brighter tomorrow. He wanted to be done with this so he could focus on his weapon and armor smithing. This was just an important step. He took the cup from the flames and poured the contents into the mold again. He hoped that he had done a good enough job to end on a high note.

d100+40+5(ring) Metalwork Arte: Double Cast
0/3 Soft Ingots 0/2 Brittle Ingots 20/25 Coal 5/5 New ingots
Rota quenched the ingot after it had properly set. From cursory analysis, he had another Legendary ingot on his hands. He enjoyed that prospect immensely. in the meantime, he decided that he wanted to reforge the first two ingots he made with the dual mold. It deserved a proper introduction that those weren't giving it. He placed them in the smelting cup and placed proportionate coal in the fire. He wondered, as he worked the bellows, if these would consistently turn out average, or if it was indeed worth doing. Regardless he continued, watching the melting ingots sinks steadily more and more into the cup. When they were ready, he pulled them from the forge and poured them into the double mold to set. Hopefully it worked better this time instead of remaining a disappointment.

0/3 Soft Ingots 0/2 Brittle Ingots 18/25 Coal 5/5 New ingots
Rota watched both ingots cool and when they were ready he dunked them into the water barrel once more. He wasn't sure what quality they were, but he was certain they were better than before. He was glad he was able to go out on such a high not after the rough start this had. Rota cleaned up the workspace, and set his sights on other prospects.

d100+5(ring)+5(hammer) 15/15 Standard Gloomiron Ingot 18/18 Coal 0/15 Shields
Now that Rota had finished up the ingots, it was time to start making Alyxandeyr a shield to pair with Gloomshard. The task would not be easy, but he knew that he could and WOULD manage it. He began by placing a standard ingot to heat in the forge and set a coal to help. He squeezed the bellows to get them heated, and when the time was right he pulled the ingot out of the forge with tongs, placed it on the anvil, and began to beat it into shape with the new hammer he had aquired. It was doing a very good job so far. It seemed to be able to make the metal far more workable than he remembered. In any case, he continued beating the metal into a heater style Kite shield as before. It was good practice for when people would request even more elaborate shields. He left it free of filigree, only putting his seal on the inside of the shield between the arm straps. One shield down, several more to go.

d100+5(ring)+5(hammer) 14/15 Standard Gloomiron Ingot 17/18 Coal 1/15 Shields
Rota placed another ingot to heat in the forge and another coal in the fire. One thing he liked about actual smithing rather tban smelting was that there was no waiting involved. He knew by the end where he stood with weapons and armor. With ingots one had to wait for the liquid ore to set, and then be quenched. A real chore at times, but still very rewarding. It was a necessary part of him MAKING weapons and armor, so he couldn't complain too much. He let his hands guide him as he started making a shield with stream of consciousness alone. No clear plan, just whatever seemed right at the time. He desperately wanted to make a brother shield for Alyx. He had waited long enough for Rota to make good on his word. His hands and hammer flew as he placed his seal on the inside of the shield. He barely acknowledged its presence in his hands as there were too many things on his mind. He had no way of knowing when inspiration would strike him and he'd be able to forge wonders once more, but he hoped it was soon.

d100+5(ring)+5(hammer) 1 Legendary Gloomiron Ingot 16/18 Coal 2/15 Shields
If Rota was worried about the quality of his product right now, he would be disappointed for churning out such lackluster product. However, now was not the time to be worrying about quality, rather familiarity. He placed another coal in the fire and, inspired in a different way, he placed a legendary iron ingot to heat in the forge. He needed practice right now. While he was unparalleled in the art of making ingots, if he couldn't use them properly he would never be worth his aspiriations. His goals would be for nought, and his legacy a flash in the pan; the only redeemers being Abyssian II and Gloomshard. He couldn't let that happen. If it took all of his coal this session he would improve his smithing overall. Weapon and otherwise. He managed the bellows with his brand of expertise as his mind flooded unchecked with these thoughts. His hands were once more taking over for his brain as he began shaping out the shield. Experience was experience, and every lesson learned from the instrument was another mistake that would not go repeated. He had enough presence of mind to place his seal onthe work, since it was using a grade of material he had never used before, and thus worthy of some credit.

d100+5(ring)+5(hammer) 13/15 Standard Gloomiron Ingot 15/18 Coal 3/15 Shields
Rota finished off another practice shield. That one felt like it had a lot of promise behind it. He'd keep that one in mind if he ever found out a way to fuse shields or armor. He placed another coal in the fire and another ingot in the flame. He was getting used to the rhythm of making shields. It wasn't an easy task, even still, but it was getting more and more familiar to him. He hoped that meant he could work wonders soon, but the chances of that were slim. He had to face facts, the two swords were gifts and accidents. They were never INTENDED to exist, but they did as blades forged of fortune. Rota doubted such phenomena could be repeated through brute force. It was sad, but it was unlikely that he would see the likes of those blades again. He woukd have to content himself for making the best shield he could for Alyx...even though it would be nowhere near the quality of that blade. His hands did the work for him as he worked there amongst his melancholy. He still only barely cared about the quality of the shields. These were practice ones meant to make him better at making shields. They didn't need his 100% dedication.

d100+5(ring)+5(hammer) 12/15 Standard Gloomiron Ingot 14/18 Coal 4/15 Shields
Rota continued to slog through his crafting. He was getting admittedly good practice in, and any smith worth his salt needed to go through these hardships, but it was just wearing on him. He placed another ingot and another coal in their respective places. He had focused on weapons too hard. That had to be it. That was why inspiration was so scarce this time around. Or maybe he just wasn't cut out to make armor. Maybe weapons were his niche to fill. That didn't feel right though. He wanted to be the smith that people came to for any request, no matter how implausible it seemed to be able to be accomplished. Specialising cut out a wide swath of what he would be able to do or accept. He was not okay with that. Besides, if no one came around but he and Alyx, he would need to be the kind of smith who could make anything since there would be no other smiths to rely on. He was IT. No one else was around to dedicate themselves to the craft as he had. No one else was around to ease the burden of his profession. No one else could truly help him in this matter but him...and that was a very lonely feeling. As a warrior he had a brother in arms he could turn to through thick and thin. Someone who he could depend on when it mattered. As a smith he was despairingly alone. Sure, the Iron Brotherhood existed but they were not someone he could turn to for help or guidance. He had to progress through perservereance and luck alone. It was tough to say the least. His hands still managed to hammer out a shield as he was busy thinking about things, miraculously. He was 1/3 done with training. 2/3 left to go.

d100+5(ring)+5(hammer) 11/15 Standard Gloomiron Ingot 13/18 Coal 5/15 Shields
Rota remained unconcerned with the poor quality of some of the shields he was pumping out. They were a means to an end, and each one taught him more and more of the dos and don'ts of shield making. That said he continued placing coal and iron in their respecive places and heating up the ingot. He needed to devote some more time to his weapon making and leather working at some point. While it was true that this was important, he had little experience making medium weight armor, i.e. his bread and butter. To say that was an issue was an understatement, however he didn't have enough leather to get any practice in. That would need to change and soon. Too many things to prioritise, so little time. Using what time he had, he continued work on the shield, letting his hands continue to work for him as far as that went. His mind was full of thoughts and none of them were centering around shield craft anymore. While some would find that counter productive, Rota was using it to his advantage.
