Julian's wings flared out slightly, stalking forward a step just as the wolf did. The display seemed to confuse the wolf, make it think twice about going after this winged prey. Julian could connect with this creature, at least a little bit. They were both predators, they understood the hunt.
He didn't look away.

The wolf's ears pinned back against it's head, tail tucking against the outside of its leg. Julian's wings settled and he approached slowly, reaching out a hand, ready to draw it back quickly if need be. The wolf sniffed at his hand a couple of times before nosing at it a little.
Julian smiled without showing his teeth and slipped the vine around the wolf's neck, pleased at having succeeded.

Levi had missed out on seeing many of the other taming of beasts. Instead, she was practicing her riding with her own small dragon mount, which now followed behind her more willingly. (( Bonus has been done for Levi & her mount here ))

The phrase "bright and early" did, usually, include something bright. Like the sun and the daylight it brought with it. Or so Thackery thought. He'd already been awake for thirty minutes or so by the time the two came around to wake him up, but his War-themed getup was a little lacking for today. How depressing to not get the chance to properly wear it out.
It was still partially there, however. He still showed off his tummy and had a few feathers clipped in his hair, but had been forced to pull on plain pants and shoes. The outfit was a little strange, and though he wasn't tired, he was still a bit listless from his lack of awesome. They spoke of living in the trees, and the animals in the ground and -- oh, was it really true!? They would get mounts? He perked up a bit, standing on his tippy-toes to see above some of the taller students in front of him.
"Oh, oh! I kind of know how to summon and sense FEAR and not use it!" he cheerfully added, not seeming to mind that nobody was paying him any attention. It was just so thrilling to be useful!
There was not even a second's time between the two War horsewomen sending them off to find a mount and Thackery's departure from the small clearing. The external bits of the wooded area were appearing fairly fruitless, so he pressed forward, hopping through the underbrush with ease.

The trek through the trees continued. There were sounds all around him, sending his ears twitching in every direction - little birds dipping past his head, low growls of creatures he couldn't see, the dull hum of a thousand bugs.
Said bugs were beginning to discover that an intruder was in their midst, and were swarming around his head in a way that made looking around excessively annoying. Blinking the out of his eyes and swatting them from his ears (oh Jack no, not in his head-related orifices, not again, not like the Other Bathroom, oh Jack why), he gave a little whimper and kept searching.

Knowing that his natural form was barred from use hadn't really bothered him until this point. Running through tall grass and weaving through trees was so much fun when he has four fast legs and the dexterity to properly handle all of it! Human bodies were so clumsy sometimes, even outside of the weird thumb dealies.
Noises echoed through the trees that seemed to indicate other students running across their mounts.
With a look of frightening dedication towards his cause, he shoved his way past an especially leafy plant.
"I'm gonna find you, just wait," he mumbled to himself.

As more and more time passed, the motivation Thackery had towards finding something to call a mount was beginning to wane. He thought fondly of the wolf who had tried to take him to victory during the trials. Poor Mister Growlnose. It hadn't been his fault that the wind was really weird that day.
There was a rustling in a bush nearby. He froze. Could...could it be? Slowly, he reached out to part the branches, to find that it was empty. Must have been a trick of the light.

He emerged into a clearing much, much smaller than the one they'd been using for their class. There was the melodic trickle of nearby water, he thought, and what looked like a large, mossy boulder in the distance. Well, it would be a good place to rest and reassess his approach to mount-finding.
Stretching, he leaned onto the rock, which moved. Woah, he'd gotten way stronger than he thought he had! He stepped away and looked at the boulder with pride, which...moved...again.
Oh.
It was alive.
Well, whatever. He was still really strong.
The rock - dragon, he realized - gave a little snort. Thackery didn't think he wanted to ride such a sleepy rock, and, holding out for Mister Growlnose, he gave the dragon a pat.
"It's okay. You can keep doing your sleeping stuff."

Just as he turned to leave the dragon, he heard it moving to reposition itself. Was it trying to follow him or something? It snorted again, yawned a toothy yawn, and looked at him expectantly.
"Oh. Uh. Sorry to let you down, Sleepyfeet, but..." With an exaggeratedly sad face, he shook his head.
"Shh, shh, just. Just go back to sleep." He reached forward to press a finger to the dragon's mouth, and turned to leave once more.

Slipping back into the forest on the other side of the clearing, Thackery immediately heard another strange noise. It wasn't too unlike the snorts the dragon was making, but had some kind of weird...bleating noise? What?
Narrowing his eyes, he looked up, only to find a goat staring him in the face.
He backed away slowly.
"Heeeey there. Listen. My clothes are not for eating. I know your kind."
When he thought that he was at an appropriate distance, he ran as fast as he could. Half of his War outfit was already missing. He wasn't willing to sacrifice the other half to some goat.

When Thackery finally stopped running, assuming that it was safe, he heard another noise. The same noise. In another tree was another goat and another risk to his swagger.
They were everywhere. He crossed his arms across his chest, hugging himself in sheer terror. They were going to eat his clothes. And everyone would laugh when he was naked. Because midriff-showing was one thing, but entire nakedness...there were NO clothes to encourage badassery! In no way would it go well.
He took off again, looking fairly ridiculous with his arms over his torso.

As the distance he'd put between him and the first goat had obviously not been enough, he more than doubled it to escape the second. Panting, he wiped sweat from his brow and flicked a few more bugs out of his ears.
"This is the weirdest jungle," he decided, taking it slow as he kept moving.
