Lin had always heard that Elnara ran away from home the first time, and while she knew it was because Elnara was a shapeshifter, she also wondered if maybe Elnara did just because life as High Princess sucked.
"I can't blame you," Lin replied back softly.
She had completely forgotten that yes there was a chance Tinuviel would be invited to stay with one of those lords, but one would have thought about now at Tinuviel's age she would have met every lord there was.
"I forget at times how much time passes and the thought you've been bothered by this for so long... and Earendil has not been painting a pretty picture of the kind of people that visit you. Granted... Earendil himself seems to also be stuck with unwanted attention sometimes."

Tinuviel grimaced. "I should give my brother more credit," she admitted reluctantly as their food arrived. "He does have a taste of what I go through ... Mother and Ada pressuring him, just as they do me, and I hope you never have to meet that girl, Halaleel ... she is to Earendil what the visiting lords are to me: self-centered, rude, and after nothing but the status of becoming a part of the royal family."
She sighed. "Though in some ways Halaleel is worse ..."

Lin coughed at that, only because it was a bit too late to hope and she had been warned far too late about Halaleel. Even though Lin was quite well aware even if she had been warned she wouldn't have thought it would apply to her.
"Uhm... about that..." Lin trailed off, "I was kind of hoping you would stay with me today, because Halaleel is coming today. To apologize that is."
And really she didn't want to be left alone in the same room with Halaleel, otherwise she could not be held responsible for her actions. Well, she could, but Lin would rather say she wasn't resposible for anything that could happen.

Tinuviel's eyes hardened, and she looked down at Lin, eyes narrowed seriously.
"Apologize," she murmured with a slow nod. "I See ... then you have met her. Yes, I will stay with you ... I know her, probably better than Earendil does, and while she has eyes only for him, she does have respect for me and my position."
Which meant that she wouldn't just be fooling around. There was much more at stake for her now.

Lin groaned at that, she really, really did not want to be going through this, "And I wish I hadn't met her."
It wasn't so much she didn't believe that Halaleel shouldn't apologize it was just embarassing because Lin didn't make a big deal out of the fact she was often a guest here or that she knew more or less every Aldrich that was alive. Well that and she was having a bit of a cynical streak by believing that Halaleel wasn't going to mean it anyways.
"In truth I'm less insulted and more creeped out and distrubed by her."

"I don't blame you," Tinuviel murmured sadly. "She has this way about her ... and people talk about her as well, I've heard more about her than I've seen ... although isn't that usually the case?"
She laughed softly. "But let us hope that it will be quick and painless ... and that you will never have to meet up with her again. I expect Earendil was taking you to meet his friend? Her father?"

Lin nodded at, she didn't mind that visit so much. Though the whole visit in general could have gone over way better than it actually had gone over.
"Yes, that was the reason why we were there really."
As long as she was the only person like that, Lin though could deal.

Tinuviel shook her head. "Normally Earendil makes sure Halaleel isn't home when he visits," she sighed. "Though on the bright side, at least now you know how to avoid her, and Earendil will probably try never to take you there again."
Her eyes sparkled suddenly. "How did her father like you?" she asked.

Which was a pity in a way, Lin thought, it was such a nice sweetshop too.... Even she had her sweet tooth after all.
"Well enough," Lin smiled sheepishly, "It was a bit tense at first but we go along well, and it was nice talking to him. He's really friendly."
Once he accepted you that is.

Tinuviel smiled with relief. "I'm glad," she murmured. "He has a tendency to be like his daughter ... as they say, the apple does not fall far from the tree. But she is more wild, and he at least can be reasoned with."
Suddenly she changed the topic entirely. "So you want to be with me today," she mused. "What is it you would like to do?"

"I don't know, well I was also going to ask you to help me with social graces too. I kind of realized I really don't know anything about how people interact here," Lin admitted, "I mean... normally I'm fine. I've been interacting with people here since I was a Surprise, but for the first time I realized with Halaleel and with Huirin is that I don't understand social... I guess expectations. Back home I would have just walked away, in fact I find the fact she's coming to me to say sorry awkward. Especially since I know she's being forced to. I really don't know what people would take for an insult, or what they expect me to call them. I've used Mister and Missus before, but that's only with my teachers, and other adults I don't know, but here it's different, as I find out when I was called out for calling Earendil, simply Earendil."
She shrugged helplessly.
"I can't even fall back on Japanese formalities because no one would understand them, and I come from a culture where everyone has a family name. So... it would always be like Miss. Aldrich for you or Aldrich-san, or since you're a princess as guess Aldrich-hime."
Lin knew manners she just didn't know this world's manners.
"Though I would also rather you do something fun with me, because you deserve that too."

Tinuviel stared at Lin for a moment, taken completely by surprise by the suggestion of fun. To her memory, no one had ever told her just to have fun ... it always had to be something educational, or to do with her duties ... entertaining meant lords that she dreaded, rather than enjoyment of music or such with friends and family.
She giggled softly, a light blush gracing her cheeks. "You might have to help me with that," she admitted. "But I would be honoured to give you lessons."
It would be a nice change, teaching instead of being taught.

Earendil hadn't been understating when she said that Tinuviel had no fun anymore Lin thought to herself. She grinned, well she found find something though being as old as they were now she wasn't exactly sure what she was going to do.
"Okay! But you'll have to tell me what you like," Lin replied.

"Oh," Tinuviel smiled, "there are a great many things that I like ... though I'm afraid you might not find them interesting. Walks through the garden, going riding on the mountain ... playing music ... reading ..."
Of course if they left the palace they would probably miss Halaleel's visit - not that Tinuviel minded that, actually, but it just meant she would have to come back again. Perhaps afterwards, if Lin wanted to go somewhere ...

Lin didn't know they could go riding on the mountain, well then again they had to learn how to ride a horse somewhere right?
"Hmm.... going riding sounds fun, but we have to stay here..."
After all she wasn't allowed to go up the mountain for that very reason, which sucked because she had to wait instead of training.
"I don't know how to play music, not that people hadn't tried teaching me, but that didn't go over too well."
