Philosophy is one of the most fascinating things that you can discuss - it's the best when you combine philosophical viewpoints and religious views.. I can't even tell you the discussions that I had with my friends when we were at college - late at night, whether studying or just hanging out.
But nothing can beat philosophical discussions sitting around a campfire in a protected CO wilderness, 3 days in from any signs of civilization, and surrounded by your fellow students and professors discussing the philosophy of life. smile

It's all fun. As long as it's not assigned. XD Talking about philosophy is a great chance to get to know people, especially if you've never talked to them before...totally changes your first impressions! What type of philosophy do you generally talk about?

Lol, you talk about philosophy like I talk about reading, or writing a five page research paper for school. I absolutely love it-but some people like it, and others hate it.
It is fun to discuss things, and although I've never really discussed philosophy, but I've discussed books, classes, subjects and other things. Discussions are some of the best parts of having friends, it brings about so many ideas. That is part of the reason that I love this guild...there are people to discuss things with, and I find that great fun! thanks for being here.

Yes Orna.. Just rub it in that our teachers are to.. strange to actually have a deep conversation with, and that most of my friends are to immature, or have no interest in the subject, to actually discuss such a topic. I discuss metaphors and slightly deeper things with one of my friends, but we've never actually started to discuss philosophy. And I have to agree with you, Empress_Cat. I also take a deep enjoyment and satisfaction in writing. Though unfortunately, I'm not that skilled in the art. Though I do take a deep pleasure in finishing a text, whether it's just an assignment for school, or a short story that I wrote for the sake of enjoyment. I also feel that I must say.. This is perhaps one of the best Guilds out there. Even though it is a Guild in honor of J.K Rowling's masterwork, we can discuss a wide variety of other subjects. Such as philosophy. But then again, if we couldn't do that, we wouldn't be Ravenclaws, would we? Also it's great that the Guild holds Events, such as the past Halloween Event, and the up coming Yule Event. I doubt there's many other Guilds that has so many activities as this one. And therefore, I feel that I must congratulate and thank our Heads of Houses, prefects, Head Boy and Head Girl and every other person that's made this fantastic Guild! Thank You!

Yay, awesomeness =D Empress_Cat: Really? I read during my spare time...Philosophy is fun too, but only when we have the chance to pick what topics we want to discuss, and are free to get wayyyy off task. I know! The Yule Ball sounds like tons of fun. =] Kitsune No Zentsumei: Well, guess it's good you've got gaia then, huh? A lot of guilds have activities, but most of the time the activities are designed and controlled by the few creators of the guild and later-on guild members just go along with it...
=D Do you guys ever imagine what it would be like to be one of your friends?

It sounds like you guys have a lot of fun planned-and I am eager to be a part of it! I absolutely love philosophy because it's really just discussing parts of life and your reasoning/thought behind it - usually tied to an event or a personally held belief. It's a great way to get to really know someone. Of course, I also include religion into the mix. smile
You should definitely help out if you want - you can always post in the thread saying that you're interested in helping out but you're unsure of what you want to do. I'm sure that there's something that could be needed.

Have you guys read "Flowers for Algernon"? It brings up so many different, touchy topics like mental retardation, animal testing (and on humans too) and disabilites... If you haven't, it's a great read. =D

I think that Ravenclaw has a chance to win the CUP at YULE cause we have many people that are getting us points, I just checked out the Cup Points for November, and I was like, "HUZZAH!"
Let's keep it up!

turayza =O That's great! I don't know much about that branch of therapy, what do you do? Here's a great link to explain what OT is and what we do - there are some links that you can click on there that will explain things further.
@ The_Golden_Sage: I do agree that we have a good chance - as long as we all keep on participating and following the rules! smile
@ Turayza: Have you answered the question for new ravenclaws (on the first page of our thread)? I was just wondering because I am interested in your response! smile
