Some people think they're the Valar incarnate, Serenity remarked dryly. That they have the right to do what they please. Which only the Valar have the right and power to do - though they would never do anything that would hurt any of us. They ARE our creators, after all.
She flicked her ears and looked over at the entrance to the snowy cave. It was a large hole ... but it was slowly filling in. She would have to clear it eventually ...

Ah....
Daemon chuckled a bit.
No matter what the people... the race... the time.... the flaws are still the same. Ah well... I pity those people, if a disaster under the terms of act of nature, they would be the least people able to handle it.

What do you mean by 'acts of nature'? Serenity questioned. Storms and such?

Storms... bizzards... freaks of weather that happen when it shouldn't but natural magicks found everywhere also count, but it also goes beyond towards people and magic itself. Nature is always changing to suit, it never fully stays the same, so people and magic must change also. It often happens slowly, but every once in a while a... hiccup shall we say happens and it becomes very noticable... it happens... and there is nothing anyone can do about it.
Daemon explained seriously.

Are you saying that when these things happen, it's not nature but magic that does it? Serenity questioned, a little on the confused side. But even if it were, the Valar have always protected us. They would never stop. They keep the world in balance, keep it as it always has been. This is a world without physical change ... and the people won't change unless intermarrying occurrs.

That's not what I meant...
Daemon seemed to be pausing to gather his thoughts.
Magic is part of nature as it is part of people, and those three things magic, nature and people are bound to change. You say this world is without physical change but even in the face of people? People are a strong force, if people become too cocky about the world around them, change the land without thinking, then change happens. Unless the Valar can protect people from their mistakes, change will occur.

Now Serenity was really confused.
What are you talking about? she asked, the tone of her thought seeming lost. How can people change the physical world?

By ruinning, by taking too much, things need time to regrown and repopulate itself... dumping things... pollution can also cause it, if you use too many resources it happens.
Daemon was curious why that thought had never come up.
Are you telling me that no one in this land would do that? If that is the case I would commend them, it's good for them not to do that.

What's pollution? Serenity questioned.
Which sort of answered Daemon's question in and of itself.
But she went on, I don't know about the humans and the dwarfs, but I do know that any elf would rather hurt themselves than the earth. It gives us life, sustains us - we use what we need and make sure that it's replaced. For each tree cut down, three more are planted. The land is given time to heal itself between crops, the animals we kill for food are not wasted by any means, and we never kill more than we absolutely need.
She paused.
If that's what you mean.

Ah... Eden....
Daemon murmured.
Nevermind, if you don't know then it's better that way.
It was a paradox in and of itself when he thought about it. A world that was like Eden, that never changed, that people didn't know what pollution was, that cared about the earth. And yet at the same time couldn't extend that caring to other sentiental beings regardless, it was as if that same love didn't count. It kind of reminded him of Gaia's own eternal paradox.

I beg your pardon? Serenity asked blankly. What's Eden?
She liked the sound of the word ...

It's a coined term that carries many meanings... it's a reference to a book that doesn't exist here.
Daemon replied back.
It generally refers to paradise, but I also mean it in terms of something untouched.

Serenity gave off the impression of a shrug and a smile. Compared to where I was born, this land IS paradise, she replied. It's a lot safer here ... and far more beautiful. But then, there are no demons here to destroy everything. Unless of course you were to ask other people, then they would tell you that I was one, she added darkly.

Ah yes.... Gion mentioned that not too happily himself.
Daemon replied drily.
I wish I could say I'm surprised, but I'm not, you're not the first and won't be the last accused of being demonic in some way.

Well, now that Elnara's gone out of this world, I think I might be, Serenity replied sadly. It's not because I have a strange ability, one that they've never seen before - new magicks are appearing all the time. They fear me because I can become something besides an elf, creatures that they fear and hate, creatures that could, if I so wished, snuff them out without even trying ...
She sighed inwardly. I only wish there were some way to get them to trust me, but there isn't.
