RinoaHeartilly Miangel XD Our BD was sick today; apparently she called the bari player at like 4:00 AM and told him she was dying and to call everyone and let them know jazz band was cancelled. So we had a sub, who apparently is going to be teaching band at a middle school starting next month. I... really don't think he knew quite what to do with us. XDDD When we were ready to warm up as a group, he was like, "So, what's your normal tuning procedure?" and we were like, "We don't have one, we just play scales and figure things out ourselves." So he tuned us by section, and when he got to the flutes he was like, "Who's first chair flute?" and I was like, "We don't HAVE chairs." He didn't quite know what to say to that. But then a couple of the other flutes told him I was "lead" flute. It was pretty funny. XD We're definitely an oddball band, I can see that now. O.o no... chairs??? *is speechless* Yeah, no chairs. We've never had chairs. Like I said, we're an oddball band. ^^ But I love us and our dysfunctional...ness. Our boys' basketball team might go to playoffs! ^^ In fact, the only way they WON'T go to playoffs is if they lose all the rest of their games (at least I THINK that's what my BD said). So basketball season is extended! Yay pep band! ^^ And if we do really well and get far in playoffs... we'll have a game on my birthday. ^^ So yeah. That happy news makes up for the fact that I kindasortaREALLY hate the other flutes even more now. Sectional today was HORRIBLE. >> But I'm focusing on the happy! XD

I'm first chair flute, which I kinda hate. I have to play the timpany(or however you spel it) notes to tune it during concerts, and I always feel like I'm on the spot. Like if I screw somthing up it's like I don't deserve to have first chair. I usually tie for first chair, but last year I just gave the other girl first chair cause neither of us cared. This year the girl I tied with didn't want first chair so I HAD to take it. On another note we had a sub yesterday that was kinda odd. She had one of the students conduct the band while she drew sketches of us or somthing.

Hi! I'm new to this guild. I just got accepted, and I'm very happy. I play the flute at band too. It's a wonderful instrument, especially since we don't have reeds or anything.

Some people are kind of annoyed that we don't have chairs, but I don't mind. We kind of know our place anyway. Like everyone knows I'm lead flute, so I don't really need to audition for the spot.

Kishoku Hokorashii Hi! I'm new to this guild. I just got accepted, and I'm very happy. I play the flute at band too. It's a wonderful instrument, especially since we don't have reeds or anything. Awww, but reeds are fun! XD Of course, I'm saying this as someone who plays sax, as well, so that might explain it. XP ^^;;

And I just don't want to go through the trouble to buy a new reed every year and all. With the flute, you don't have to really get anything extra. xp

We have section leaders and sections. I'm 6th chair out of 9 flutes. redface But in Honor band I'm in 2nd chair. How ironic.

I never see reeds lying around. I guess we're just responsible. XD Or something. And a new reed every year? Hah, I wish. Try a new box around every six months. ^^ I guess that IS a good thing about flutes. No extra equipment. Just the flute.

OMG. It's a saxophone in the flute section! eek
I've always wondered this about flutes...
Why is the flute considered such a girly instrument? I don't get it...

It's considered such a girly instrument because people choose to think about it that way. Sounds about right to me.(the reason, not the actual thin about the fulte being a girly instrument) Like the fact people look at pink as girly, and blue as a boy color. Then again it's perfectly ok for a girl to like(wear) blue but when a guy wears it, it's weird.
