After all the fun of free time - fun, could it be called that? - Ubel had finally picked up his satchel again and headed for class, making his way slowly down the hall, reading each plaque. Finally, he came to the one he had been searching for, smiling softly as he nudged the door open carefully to peer inside. Upon seeing Grave, Yambati, and Kallisto, he felt relieved that there were people there and that he wasn't late. His lips parted to greet, but he spotted the professor and opted to maintain his silence, tiptoeing forward to the two he knew and sitting on the other side of Grave.
This was going to be an incredibly serious class, he determined, pursing his lips slightly as he fought to keep silent in setting his notebook, quill, and inkwell on the table. Then he just watched, wondering if the silent professor would speak... or even move.

Mat actually didn't have much of a problem finding the class - and ended up being there more or less on time (for once). Peeking inside the room, he spotted a few people he knew, mostly Grave, Ubel and the newest student he'd met in the gardens ... Yambati. And he seriously debated for a few minutes going to "inflict" himself on the slightly taller Empyrean.
But ... well. Yambati probably wouldn't let him copy notes like Grave would. So he threaded his way through students and slid into the seat just behind Grave. "What kinda Laws are there around here anyway?" he muttered, almost to himself. He was already thinking this would proooobably be a rather boring class.

Grave smiled at Kallisto as she took a seat by him, and then shot a meaningful glance at the sullen Professor as if to say, 'yikes!'. But before he could do much more, Ubel shifted in to sit next to him, and he gave a grateful smile. Feeling a little more at ease, Grave arranged his quill and inkwell before him on the ledger and spread a fresh page in his notebook. He heard Mathiaz whisper from behind him, and nearly jumped a mile. Turning to lean over the back of his pew, Grave whispered back, "How long have you been there, Mat? S'not like you to be so quiet..." But before Grave could get a response, Professor Bardane's dour voice spoke up, stern and sour. "I'll not have any whispering in my class." The Professor had glanced up from his books and was shooting a rather pointed look at Grave. Flushing in the cheeks, Grave sat back over his books with a sigh. No fun at all. Bardane rose from his seat and strode out from behind his podium. "Now then. Shall we begin?" It was clearly a rhetorical question. Grave didn't make a sound.

Though Amelia had missed most of the last class, but this time, she was sure not to be late. She hadn't been feeling very well as of late, and she had been staying in her room a lot, spending time with Indira and trying to heal up as best as she could. It was unfortunate that they'd yet to have Botany class--she was curious to know if any herbal remedies could make the crampy feeling in her stomach go away.
Slinging her backpack over her shoulder, she headed down the hallway, looking for the name of Professor Bardane, the Law instructor. She was curious about what they'd learn in Law class. Perhaps the laws of Empyrean? It would be good to know them, even if they weren't very interesting.
As she came to the right door, she pushed it open and looked around the room, wondering if she was late. Not many other people were there, and the room was oddly quiet. It looked as if the teacher was just getting started.
Amelia slid into a seat close to a tall, green-haired boy, and pulled out her notebook and inkwell, readying herself to write. It was then that she heard Bardane sternly reprimand those who were whispering. Boy, this must be a serious class, she thought, concentrating on her notes.

Smiling and waving to those students who came in after she, she wondered if she should speak. Mathiaz broke the silence before she could and she suppressed a chuckle as she watched Grave jump.
Kallisto nodded in agreement to what Grave indicated earlier, casting a glance his way, then shrunk into her seat as Bardane spoke, feeling his scrutiny despite not being the object of his attention. Her belief that goofing off would not be tolerated was reaffirmed and she kept her silence, watching him curiously.

Jala clumped loudly along to her first class, bag slung haphazardly over her shoulder. Arriving at the classroom, she looked round, sighed, and took a seat near the back, dumping her bag onto her desk dramatically. Boring boring classes with their boring lectures and BOOKS! She placed her chin on her hand and gazed up at the professor with a glum look.

Aysel entered just as the professor was asking if they should begin. A flush immediately rose to her cheeks, and she murmured an apology to him before quickly heading for a seat-any seat. This class had a different feel to it..more quiet, less accepting..which made her more than a bit anxious. What would this class hold for her?

Bardane swept an icy gaze over every student in the class. He was a righteous man, and the Laws of the city would be adhered to. It was his job to educate them on the importance and the detailed following of the Empyrean City Laws. If the students failed, it reflected his failure as a teacher. And that could not be tolerated. "Now then." He began acidly. "In this class you will learn the Laws that will keep you safe, prosperous, and obedient members of this society. We are but a small remaining few, we Empyreans, and any dissention whatsoever weakens us against innumerable monsters and enemies beyond the walls. Empyreans have paid with their lives to ensure your safety, you would do well to not abuse that which far greater and wiser beings have wrought. Your assignment will to be to copy out the Litany of Law 20 times, so that you remember each rule expertly. I suggest you prepare your quills." Bardane lifted a long and slender smokey quartz and cherry wood wand to the wall behind him, smooth and flawless white. He began to flick the tip of his wand, and as he did so, glowing letters formed on the wall and began to spell out words. Bardane read out the first string of letters as they affixed themselves shimmering to the wall. "Number 1. No Empyrean below Stage 1 may cast magic, unless under the supervision of a Professor."

Kallisto groaned, although she did it quietly. 20 times? The same thing? How many were there? A few, she could handle, but if they ended up doing something like lines, she'd be upset. This didn't bode well at all. Apparently Law was going to be as dry and uniteresting as the seats on which they sat.
Leaning over to reach into her bag, she withdrew an ink pot, her regular quill, and a sheaf of paper. Sullenly, she began copying what had appeared on the board.
Number 1. Number 1. Number 1. Number 1. Number
The words were jotted down in columns so that the process would go much faster. He writing was neater then her usual scrawl, too, for she suspected that if the Professor had difficulty reading the words he'd dismiss it entirely and she'd have to redo it likely with something added on.

Ubel looked horrified. Yes, he knew that all teachers weren't going to be kind, or fun, or things like that, but... but this was frightening. He squirmed in his seat and hurried to dip his quill in after Professor Bardane finished speaking, swallowing hard as he copied down the first law, writing carefully, but quickly, to ensure he copied it all without risking missing the next law. There was another, though, who knew he was going to be in trouble. Lior crept carefully into the classroom, hugging his bag to his chest and eyeing the teacher warily - normally, he would play it up, were he caught. But he had a feeling that wouldn't go over smoothly for him. So he tried to tiptoe his way in and sit down anywhere, reading over that which was on the wall.

Aysel nodded as the Professor instructed, dipping her quill into her ink and copying down the law. Society functioned on the basis of a good framework...without a set of firm and solid laws, it would crumble at the first blow. She was interested to see what the laws were, and how they were followed- it was rare for every law to be followed to the letter- although she wasn't thrilled about having to copy every law twenty times. It was mindless work, she thought bitterly, designed to keep them busy. Repetition was a method of memorization she wasn't terribly fond of.

Busy work. Joy. Yambati hid the roll of his eyes by focusing on his paper, quickly copying the first law down in a spindly, somewhat neat scrawl. He would copy them all onto better paper back in his room, he thought, so he didn't concentrate on making his notes entirely legible to anybody but himself.
Still, he did like Bardane's attitude - strict, sharp, and to the point. No wasted words with that man.

Jala scowled. She flipped her bag open, grabbed a notebook and a quill, and began to doodle in the margins.
NOTES, bah! Sighing and looking back up at the board with resignation, she began to copy down Law number one. This was going to be her LEAST favorite class, she knew it.

Once again, Antigone was incredibly late. She had a good reason, this time around. Her lover had been hurt during the search for that accursed Erros' Arrow potion, and she hadn't been there when it had happened. She sure as hell was going to be there when her heart was being treated. And thus, she was late for another class because she had been with Aysel in the Infirmary. The class was Law, she reminded herself, hoisting her bag onto her shoulder as the Sanguine felt it begin to slip. What a class to be late for. Irony was a concept she was beginning to become familiar with.

Torrid rushed hurridly along, re-checking his map for the fourth time. After a few more stressful minutes, he finally happened across the class he was looking for after almost passing over it again.
Not sure what to expect, and fully aware of the fact that he was terribly late, he tentatively and quietly pushed the door to Bardane's law class open.
