Larry didn't have to drag himself awake.
He was a born and bred morning person. Even given the opportunity, he didn't like to spend the day in bed. That lead to doing, seeing, and hearing less. His physical inclinations, fortunately, followed after his philosophical ones: Once awake, he was awake, and that was that.
This particular morning Larry found himself a little bewildered, and after some puzzling, discerned what, exactly, had decided to join him. He laughed. "Forgive me. I'm not exactly used to waking up next to beautiful girls. But from now on I'll make a habit of it!"
Larry gave Miriam a bristly kiss, and set about to finding his work clothes.
"We'll get you changed and find you some breakfast. How does that sound? Today we should get that case settled. I don't know whether that fellow we met yesterday will be over. Maybe we should leave a note...have you seen my trousers? Oh, here we are.”
Larry finished dressing with some last adjustments to his tie. He retrieved Miriam, who had begun to cry half-heartedly. She rubbed at her eyes, and twirled her hair with an opposite fist.
“Shhh, there now, you're alright. I wager you're hungry. Are you old enough to eat solid food? I hope you are, since I don't have a wet nurse. I'll change you first. Hmmm, it's been a while. Let's see if I can still...no, that doesn't go there, does it?”
Larry managed to remove, wash, and replace the offending article. The process was clumsy at first, but he gradually regained his balance and completed the task cheerfully. Breakfast was plain. Larry abstained from eating. Fifi produced a small, warm egg, which promptly wrapped it so it wouldn't be broken. Miriam, once fed, was immediately curious and happy, and Larry let her down to explore while he tidied up and went outside to check the weather.
-
“There are pieces of paper outside!” Larry announced importantly. Miriam looked up from the floor, where she had been quietly playing with a shoe. Fifi didn't look up at all.
“They say...ah...they say...Hold on a minute, here.” Larry pulled up his chair, eyes on the paper. “I can't read this word. Ah! Alright. I've got it. It says they're having a public execution! Well, that's certainly exciting! Executions are kind of like parties, you know. Simply loads of people. Good fun for most involved, except of course the executed. Both of them, in this case. Good job he won't be going alone. I imagine it's less lonely if you're executed in pairs. Why do they only name one of them, do you think? It just says companion. I bet the other fellow will be a bit put off, not getting his name down. Oh, that reminds me. Good news! The rain's let up, although it's still damp out. We've got the information we need, so we can just pop on down to Rumwell. If we find the kid there, there's an herbalist down the way who will sell us an...an...oh, what's the name for that? Is there one? Well, whatever it is. Now, let me write down a few things so I won't forget them, and we can be on our way.”

Hikari Chou "H-hello...who. Who...are you?" Quote: Nameless placed one hand to his chest, as though he was quite baffled as to why the girl sounded so frightened...Perhaps even displeased!
With a tip of his head, one hand adjusting his glasses so that they didn't slip from their position at the top of his nose, he greeted the girl. "I am the one called...Nameless. Igor has sent me to retrieve you, my dear. You see, you have been scheduled to meet with us this morning at the Velvet Room." For a moment, Nameless's mouth curved downwards in concern. "I do hope this won't be inconvenient. Unfortunately, we've been terribly busy lately. This is the only time we can see you. We'll need to take care of that business with your Tarot Card today, or else..."

Nameless? What an interesting name... She couldnt help but think to herself as she shivered in her spot. And then, he mentioned her card.
Her eyes widened considerably and she opened her mouth to say something, and the closed it. Attempting again to say something she opened her mouth...only to close it once more. Looking much like a fish.
Eventually she snapped out of it. She wanted to question him about his knowing of her card. But couldnt find it within herself too. She quivered again, but this time in exictement.
Why was she excited? She couldnt begin to tell you. But something just set her off.
In the back of her mind, alarms were going off. You'd be going to meet not only this man, but another man?! Are you crazy! WITHOUT Yami?! Something could happen to you!
But she pushed the thoughts into the back of her mind. "T-This morning?" She stuttered out before remembering her card was left in her room. "Hold...on" she spoke, forcing herself to steady her voice.
She left the door open for Nameless should he decide to come in. She instantly flew to her room and grabbed the card. She was back in an instant, her hand gripping the item as if it were her life line.
She gave Nameless a steady stare, doe born iris' excited and unsure all at the same time. What was she too do next? She had the card. Was she too follow him? Would he give her directions? Could Yami come? Would she have to go alone?
So many questions raced, but she kept her mouth shut waiting for him to speak to her again.

Thunk....thunk...thunk...
What was that? Annie turned over in her sleep, strings of purple-brown hair falling unbecomingly all over her face. Thunk. Ech. It was the sound of metal-on-wood. Like a hammer? Who would hammer so early in the morning? Carpenters? She sighed and turned over on her lumpy sacks of flour. Maybe a carpenter. And now there were voices, talking about something. And then --
CRASH.
Annie shot out of bed like a rocket, holding one hand to her throbbing head. Ow! That hurt! "What the shaaa--ah--ow." She removed the metal pan from her skull with a sour look on her face, and stood up, wobbling slightly, and retrieved her cane. Next time, she thought to herself as she ducked under the counter and into the other room, she wouldn't sleep with the metal baking pans hanging precariously over her head. Annie peered out the windows of the shop into the street and blinked. What was this? Paper? She opened the door and snatched the one that had been nailed there (It hadn't been carpenters after all!) and read it to herself.
"Sunset...blah, blah...Marius Quinn? Hmm...blah...blah...Grand University. Sehket. Blah." Annie droned, fighting to prevent herself from rolling her eyes. An execution, huh? Annie didn't particularly care for executions, but they were a good excuse to get out and about. See people. Steal things. Right. Her character predatory grin overtook her face as she slipped back inside to the bathroom...to see if she couldn't take inventory of her looks. After all, a public appearance demands the proper attire.

Quote: Nameless stood silently for a moment, listening to the uncertainty of the girl's racing heart. Such unease and tension!
Smiling at her softly, he leaned against the doorframe of her house, as though he was suddenly weary. "My, my. You certainly are in a strange position, aren't you? Again, I apologize for this trouble I'm stirring in your heart." He paused to listen to her heartbeat once more, and then continued, "Really, there's no need to worry. You are in good hands now that we need you. Today...in a few hours time, you must set out to find the Velvet Room. It's not all that difficult, it's your heart that will guide you. We make ourselves known to those who have been chosen to come."
As he turned to leave, Nameless paused once more, adding, "I know how dear your sister is to you, but you mustn't bring her. She'll certainly become lost in the most unfortunate manner if she is with you."
With a tip of the head, the man shuffled off, disappearing around a bend.

Hikari stood there listening to him, not sure what to say, what to do. She was in good hands now that they needed her? Her nerves slowed down, for some reason something told her to trust the man.
She forced back the doubtful thoughts that plagued her about coming alone. Yami was always there when she needed her, and she wasnt sure if she could meet with a bunch of strangers alone. But still- she nodded her head to the man. It probably wasnt the wisest thing to bring Yami in her current state anyways.
She watched the man leave, just standing there staring. But after he left her eye sight she raced out after him only to find him gone. Just like that.
A hand reached to grip the fabric of her pink top where her heart would be. It would lead the way? It sounded so cliche, but it was all she had to go off of. Hopefully Nameless would be right. Especially if it were the only time they would be able to see her.
She sighed, heavily. A few hours time. That would at least give her time to finish washing the robe she supposed. Hopefully Yami would be up by then and she could let the girl know that she would be stepping out for a few moments.
She shook her head and turned around, about to go back home, when she noticed a peice of paper on the ground. She bent to pick it up, and read it quickly.
Oh no...an execution? It sounded horrible! Her stomach twisted into knots as she took the paper inside the house with her and closed the door behind her.

"A handful of rice, two apples, and a little flour!" Adlei announced triumphantly as she turned the corner, finding Elliot nestled between empty crates in the alley. When he saw her, the boy leapt from his hiding place, meeting her with enthusiasm in his eyes.
"Wonderful!" he exclaimed, taking an apple and pressing it to his cheek as though it brought comfort with its touch. "You're absolutely magnificent! With food in our bellies, we should be able to have a splendid adventure today, right?"
Biting into the second apple, Adlei chewed and swallowed before responding. "We'll see what turns up, won't we? Let's not do anything to warrant the attention of the Peace Enforcement units today. They're certain to be still after us..."

The Fortune Teller Awaking early that morning, the Fortune Teller took a deck of cards from within her robes. She shuffled the cards, waiting and watching the door of the kitchen intently. It was as she had expected: the young man was one of those who Philemon had marked. The past evening, she had made certain he fell asleep quickly to avoid any unnecessary conversation. She only needed him to see his Other self in his dreams for her to do her job properly.

Severin's eyes fluttered open and he scarcely knew where he was until memories began to gradually return. He rarely slept, and when he did it was usually during daylight hours. When night fell and unsettling darkness seem to suffocate even the shadows of the meager candles. Most unpleasant to sleep in, escpecially for someone scared of their own shadow.
Ankou slitted one eye just enough to observe his Doctorly counterpart with an unchildlike scrutiny. The silver of his eyes was alarming, to say in the least, and it seemed as if he already knew. Heaving a delicate sigh, the babe shut his eye and proceeded to wrap himself in his own clothing for a source of comfort.
Dr. Oddssen started when he felt the movement, and grew pale in fear before he realized it was the child. His child. Ankou. A shudder followed the preliminary start as he looked over the small, sleeping form beside him. He decided to bring Ankou to Larry, as the cannibal had not a clue how to deal with infants. Children, yes.. but not infants.
With a new motivation, Severn set about readying everything and payed no heed to the hunger gnawing at his stomach. Was the child hungry? Curious, he retrieved a small piece of meat from the remainder of his dinner the past night and attempted to rouse the sleeping babe.
Ankou, soon to be known as Nicodemus, was still, but his eyes opened a fraction in curiosity. Seeing the meat, he reached up and snatched it before a word could be said, going about gumming the fleshy bits to a suitable mush.

Larry hunkered down over his notes in a dire attempt to be busy and undistracted. He ended up seeing how high he could throw the no longer safetly wrapped egg instead.
"-So the basic principle, you see, is that mankind is a sort of...of collective, wherein no man is entirely...well, not exactly that. If you have one part of the whole, or one whole of the part, or possibly a whole part of a man...when you have...I've confused myself. It mainly consists in the lack of dichotomy in universal concerns. Do you understand? Fifi, a little back up?"
Fifi busied herself with her tailfeathers.
"Well, I suppose that's technically back up, but that's not what I meant. Oh, forget it! I don't understand any of it myself. That man in Kensington... There is a lack of dichotomy in universal concerns! What the devil is that supposed to mean? I can barely pronounce dichotomy!"
Larry caught the egg a final time, spinning it on his desk and resting his chin on one fist.
"I'm supposed to be serious and parental from this point out. No more of my usual business! You can't save the world without understanding it, can you? Miriam! I'm in the dark! ...I'm just going to be swept along again, and content myself to be wherever the tide lets out."
Miriam looked up kindly, but did not venture to comment. She was a pretty baby, and Larry had left her kerchief off. He did like the little horns, and her disposition was sweet. He smiled at her.
"But, you know, if we really did it, if we really saved the world, do you know what we'd be? Heroes! Isn't that an exciting thought! It's very much like an adventure. An adventure with limited roaming space."

Windows are open, breeze is blowing, and it's not too hot outside. Perfect chance to visit Lily! Eli swiftly tied a full canteen to his makeshift belt, and was making his way outside when a very annoyed Mutt made his stomach's situation known by weaving his way in and around Eli's legs, empty dish in mouth. Eli caught himself on the cornerpost of the stable, and cursed the dog, and his own stomach as it protested the lack of dinner the night before.
"Fine, fine, fine," he mumbled, pulling the lid off of an aging pot hanging over the firepit. The exact contents of the leftover soup are better left unreviewed, to save one's appetite. Mutt certainly didn't seem to mind the cold concoction for his breakfast, and Eli had had enough practice ignoring tastes and textures, that he downed his portion without much incident.
Bellies satisfied, the two headed west toward the Boneyard. Lily must certainly be lonely by now.

Hikari quickly put the note down on the first free counter top she could find and then moved to wash the robes. Her fingers worked quickly and she hummed softly to herself as she worked.
It wasnt long before the red fabric was clean and she was found trying to place it near a window where it could dry without being stolen. Making a mental note that she still needed to get her dress back as well.
With a small sigh, the older chou couldnt help but wonder how long it had been. Yami still wasnt awake, but maybe that was for the best? She wasnt allowed to bring her sister anyways.
Slowly, she made her way to the door. Unsure if it was the right thing to do.
Shaking away her worried thoughts she opened the door and closed it behind her, making her way down the street.
She wasnt sure which way to go and her mind raced with different ways she could go to get to her disired direction. Her eyes went into a soft focus as she let her mind reel.
Before she even knew it she was standing in front of the velvet room. It spooked her to no end, and her breath hitched into her throat. here goes nothing

Date: Day 4 of Summer Time: Late Morning Weather: Cloudy, light rain, some thunderRaynai Bellies satisfied, the two headed west toward the Boneyard. Lily must certainly be lonely by now. Quickly biting off the last bit of meat from the apple's core, Elliot casually tossed the remains by the roadside as they walked. Adlei adjusted her hood constantly, nervous that some passerby might recognize their faces and summon Peace Enforcement units.
"Don't worry so much, Adlei," Elliot whispered, wrapping an arm around her shoulder. "People are moving about now. It'd be difficult for them to spot us among the faces."
However, as they rounded a corner, Adlei felt the arm around her tense suddenly. Looking ahead, she saw a young man approaching, followed by a dog that appeared rather tame.
"He's got a dog with him...think he might be one of their Eyes?" Adlei leaned in closer to her companion, her eyes narrowing on the face of the approaching man.

Hikari Chou Before she even knew it she was standing in front of the velvet room. It spooked her to no end, and her breath hitched into her throat. here goes nothing Within, the darkness expanded as though it were infinite, as though it stretched to touch walls that did not exist. However, as music began to separate itself from the dumb silence of the darkness, forms began to appear, each one traced by a touch of blue-hue light. Towards the front of the room, a man leaned against the arm of a sofa, his voice becoming more distinct as light touched his features; he seemed to be having a conversation with someone not present. A pair occupied a back corner of the room, one engaged in some sort of piano music while the other sang with a voice that pierced the heart. The final member of the room was a young girl, staring intently at a painting before her.Igor "Ah, how unfortunate... You do know how the master will feel about this, don't you? ...Yes, certainly. We shall talk about it later, my guest has finally arrived."
Slamming the earpiece of a stange machine onto its other component, Igor turned to the girl who had entered and took severl puffs from his pipe. The anger in his face slowly dissolved, until he appeared perfectly at ease. "I apologize for that, my dear. Truly dreadful negotiations today. Fortunately, we've got everything in order for you. That is, if you've brought your Tarot Card with you...? "

Hikari nodded slowly, but didnt move to take the card out of the spot she always hid it in. She listened to the music and had an overwheleming urge to dance, but pushed the want aside.
"W-What do you want...with my card?" She asked so softly she wasnt sure if it had even left her thoughts. Hikari didnt have much possesions in the world, not since that son of a- took over...
She sure as heck didnt want to lose one of them now.
